Title: Rehabilitation of Child with Cerebral Palsy in the Preoperative and Postoperative Period Author: Renata Šmídová Objective: During my practice I have met with a number of pediatric patients affected by cerebral palsy who underwent corrective orthopedic surgery, and which in some cases unfortunately unsuccessful. Based on the initial acquisition of information on this issue, I found a number of studies and articles on the success of orthopedic surgery in cerebral palsy. Many studies have been correctly chosen physiotherapy great help, so I decided to map physiotherapy approach on the case. In the first part of the thesis I process in detail neurological disorder cerebral palsy (CP) and surgical treatment of deformities resulting from the operation of this disease. The second part includes a case study, which also describes the rehabilitation work of the physiotherapist with a child patient who undergoes corrective surgery on the lower limb. The third section contains qualitative research, conducted on the parents. The aim was to use polling to determine success of the operation and postoperative care. The aim: To determine what aspects affect the outcome of orthopedic surgery in cerebral palsy and what rehabilitation has a key role to the success of the operation. Method: Was a case study of a...

Temporal and Spatial Models for Temperature Estimation Using Vehicle Data

Eriksson, Lisa January 2019 (has links)
Safe driving is a topic of multiple factors where the road surface condition is one. Knowledge about the road status can for instance indicate whether it is risk for low friction and thereby help increase the safety in traffic. The ambient temperature is an important factor when determining the road surface condition and is therefore in focus. This work evaluates different methods of data fusion to estimate the ambient temperature at road segments. Data from vehicles are used during the temperature estimation process while measurements from weather stations are used for evaluation. Both temporal and spatial dependencies are examined through different models to predict how the temperature will evolve over time. The proposed Kalman filters are able to both interpolate in road segments where many observations are available and to extrapolate to road segments with no or only a few observations. The results show that interpolation leads to an average error of 0.5 degrees during winter when the temperature varies around five degrees day to night. Furthermore, the average error increases to two degrees during springtime when the temperature instead varies about fifteen degrees per day. It is shown that the risk of large estimation error is high when there are no observations from vehicles. As a separate result, it has been noted that the weather stations have a bias compared to the measurements from the cars.

Comparative evaluation of the influence of superficial treatment and luting agent to the tensile strength of titanium cast post and cores

Menani, Luiz Ricardo 21 December 2005 (has links)
The use of cast post and core is common in restorative dentistry to provide long-term tooth structure replacement for endodontically treated teeth. They could be cast in precious or basic alloys: the alternative alloys present advantages but they are susceptible to corrosion and its effects. The titanium was introduced to Dentistry with the objective of compensating the metal basic deficiencies, mainly the corrosion. Then, the purpose of this study was to compare the tensile resistance among gold alloy, titanium, and titanium after a superficial treatment with Kroll’s solution when fixed with different luting agents. Forty two human extracted canines were selected, the coronal aspect of each tooth was removed and the remaining root received endodontic therapy. All specimen were divided into six groups (n=7). The post space was prepared at a depth of 10mm using a Largo’s drill. The cast post and core were manufactured using a type III gold alloy and titanium. Cast post and core were fixed with zinc phosphate or resin luting agent (Panavia F). Tensile bond strength of the specimens was measured with a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0,5mm/min and cell-load of 50 Kgf. Data (Kgf) were statistically analyzed by ANOVA. The results demonstrated that there was not a significant difference among the groups. Within the limitations of this study it has been conclude that the titanium fixed with zinc phosphate or resin luting agent is a viable alternative to the gold alloy to fabricate cast post and cores.

Determinants of task order in dual-task situations

Hendrich, Elisabeth 16 December 2014 (has links)
The simultaneous performance of two tasks in a dual-task paradigm is often accompanied by dual-task costs (longer reaction times and/or higher error rates). These dual-task costs have been explained by the existence of a central bottleneck which prohibits the simultaneous processing of the two tasks at the central response-selection stage of information processing. The aim of the present work was to investigate several of the possible factors which determine the task processing order at this central bottleneck. The study shows that the arrival time of the two tasks at the bottleneck plays an important role in the determination of task order. Additionally, the influence of the arrival time on processing order is independent of the component task which is manipulated to test the influence of that task (i.e., visual & auditory task). A second factor that was manipulated is the instruction given to the participants. The results show that cognitive control processes are activated under certain instruction conditions. As a third factor, task requirements were investigated by comparing a temporal order judgement task with a dual task with random task order (i.e., temporal order judgement with the additional requirement to do a choice-RT task). The results suggest that the decision about the temporal order of the two tasks is located between the perception stage and the response-selection stage of processing.

How visual stimulus dynamics affect mechanisms of interval timing

Herbst, Sophie 08 December 2014 (has links)
Often, perceived time differs from objective time. This work addresses how perceived time is influenced by the content of a time interval. Three empirical studies were conducted to assess how visual stimulus dynamics affect perceived duration. We combined paradigms from vision research with timing tasks and measures of neural processing using electroencephalogram (EEG). Sensory models of interval timing claim that duration of a time interval is encoded in the same neural networks that process its sensory content. Thus, even stimulus dynamics that are processed only on the sensory level but are not consciously perceived should affect perceived duration. In contrary, we showed that only consciously perceived stimulus dynamics affect perceived duration, with more perceived dynamics leading to longer perceived duration. Changes that were not perceived but evoked a neural response (measured in the EEG) did not affect perceived duration. These findings argue against the assumption of sensory timing models, but are consistent with models that assume a central internal clock. However, internal clock models do not sufficiently explain why stimulus dynamics affect perceived duration. We tested whether stimulus dynamics affect the stage of temporal encoding as postulated by internal clock models, by measuring neural correlates of temporal encoding in the EEG. We found that the neural correlates of temporal encoding reflected internal variations in perceived duration, but not the dilation induced by stimulus dynamics. We argue that visual stimulus dynamics affect perceived duration after temporal encoding. In sum, the findings show that duration perception is not grounded in early sensory processing, but is probably achieved by a specialized timing system that can be biased by the perception of dynamic stimuli. The discussion addresses theoretical implication of these findings for theories of time perception, and their implications for further research in the field.

Neuronal mechanisms of food perception

Ohla, Kathrin 06 October 2016 (has links)
What characterizes food and makes it so tempting? Sensory and hedonic information about food is conveyed by all senses, activated more or less simultaneously, having led to the notion that food perception is a multisensory experience. The smell, sight, touch or sound of a food can be experienced before ingestion and elicit expectations about the "taste" of that food based on previous encounters. It is, therefore, not surprising that these so-called pre-ingestive sensory experiences play a role in the formation of cravings and the elicitation of appetitive responses. Only during consumption, the chemical senses, smell, taste and oral touch and irritation, are experienced in the oral cavity as food is masticated and swallowed and gives rise to the overall experience commonly referred to as taste. While the term taste is, strictly speaking, incorrect as it does not refer to the gustatory perception, many languages including German lack an appropriate term for the holistic flavor experience arising from the food-induced stimulation of the chemical senses, gustation, olfaction and oral somatosensation in a minimalist interpretation, or, in a broader sense, of all our senses, including hearing and vision. Undoubtedly, feeding behavior is characterized by a complex interplay of perceptual, cognitive and metabolic processes and research on the mechanisms by which these processes regulate food intake behavior is only in its infancy. In this thesis, I present a series of studies aiming to elucidate the cortical representations of the visual, gustatory and flavor components of food objects along with evidence for the vulnerability of these presentations to contextual information. Together, I reckon that an understanding of the psychophysiological mechanisms of the sensory and affective processing of food objects mediated by our senses, seeing, smelling, tasting, feeling and hearing, represents the perceptual basis of food-related decision making.

Efeitos do fornecimento de dietas contendo nitrogênio não-protéico(NNP) sem prévia adaptação, durante curto espaço de tempo e em diferentes fases do ciclo estral na produção, qualidade e grau de desenvolvimento de embriões de fêmeas bovinas superovuladas / Effect of short term non-protein nitrogen (NPN) feeding to superovulated beef cows without previous adaptation, at different periods of the oestrus cycle on yield, quality and development degree of recovered embryos

Alves, Flavio Rocha 13 December 2007 (has links)
High levels of crude protein (CP) in ruminant diets were associated with detrimental effect on fertility, mainly, due to the rise of plasmatic urea nitrogen (PUN) concentration. The aim of this study was to verify the effects of short term non-protein nitrogen feeding at different periods of the oestrus cycle in superovulated cows without previous adaptation on yield, quality and development degree of recovered embryos. Sixty eight Nelore cows with body condition score of 7.56 and body weight of 557.6 kg were divided in three different groups: control (C), urea before day 0 (UB; urea supply from day -5 to day 0) and urea after day 0 (UA; urea supply from day 0 to day 5). Animals were grazing in Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu pasture and received 3.0 kg/animal/day of concentrate during 16 days. Two concentrates were formulated and the total diets (concentrate + estimate forage intake) had 12.0% (control diet) and 14.6% of CP (NPN diet). The difference in CP between diets was the addition of 100g/cow/day of urea. Animals were synchronized, superovulated and inseminated. The embryos were collected seven days (day 7) after insemination (day 0) and quality and development degree were also evaluated. Blood samples were collected on day -5, 0 and 5 for measurement of PUN, glucose, insulin and progesterone. There was significant effect of treatments on average PUN concentration at day -5 (C = 16.18ab, UB = 17.72a and UA = 14.47b mg/dL; P = 0.0007), at day 0 (C = 18.95b, UB = 22.71a and UA = 21.15ab mg/dL; P = 0.0010) and at day 5 (C = 20.93a, UB = 19.08b and UA = 21.51a mg/dL; P = 0.0022). For glucose, insulin and progesterone there was no effect of treatments. It was observed neither effect of urea inclusion nor the moment of urea inclusion in diet on the total number of recovered structures, total number of fertilized structures and total number of viable embryos. However, it was observed effect of the moment of urea inclusion on the rate of fertilized structures in relation to the total number of recovered structures (UB = 75.3 vs. UA = 50.7%) and on the rate of viable embryos in relation to the total number of recovered structures (UB = 73.2 vs. UA = 39.4%). The UA treatment lead to lowest fertilizing oocyte capacity in relation to UB treatment with an approximate reduction of 32.7% on oocytes fertilized proportion over the total recovered structures in this treatment.

Modelo de maturidade para implantação da Produção mais Limpa (P+L) nas empresas / Maturity model for the implementation of Cleaner Production (P+L) into companies

Pescim, Guilherme Favoreto 20 October 2017 (has links)
Cleaner Production (CP) is a preventive environmental management approach aimed at reducing pollution at source. Among these barriers are the fact that the CP application is timely and poorly integrated with the management of companies and the lack of detailed and systematized information on practices that can be applied in the CP implementation process. The main objective of this work is to introduce a Cleaner production Maturity Model to support the implementation of cleaner production into companies. The Cleaner Production Maturity Model proposed is composed of three elements: Maturity stages, Cleaner Production Practices and Application Method for continuous improvement. For this, a literature review was conducted to identify the main evolution dimensions on cleaner production adoption and systematize CP practices, techniques and tools that were included into the model framework. Moreover the first version of Cleaner Production Maturity Model was submitted to experts evaluation in order to improve the framework description and consistency. Measurements of CP violation in mixing of Bs mesons and the Ds production asymmetry at LHCb

Klaver, Suzanne January 2017 (has links)
This thesis reports two measurements performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb detector in 2011 and 2012, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 inverse femtobarn and centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV respectively. The first measures the CP asymmetry in Bs-anti-Bs oscillations, called asls. This is measured in inclusive Bs and anti-Bs to Ds mu nu X decays, where the Ds meson is reconstructed in the final state K K pi. The measurement is performed in three regions in the Dalitz phase space of the Ds decay, and corrected for detection and background asymmetries. A value of asls = (0.39 +/- 0.26(stat) +/- 0.20(syst))% is found, which is the world's most precise measurement of a CP asymmetry in B meson mixing and is consistent with the Standard Model prediction. The second measurement determines the production asymmetry of Ds mesons, and probes non-perturbative QCD models. It is performed in bins of transverse momentum and pseudorapidity in the kinematic region 2.5.
