Pedagogias da noite : experiências de aprendizagem em lugares noturnos de Porto Alegre/RSSilva, Eloenes Lima da January 2018 (has links)
Como distintas pedagogias entram em funcionamento nos espaços-tempos noturnos da metrópole? Para responder tal questão, o objetivo principal desta tese consistiu em dar visibilidade às pedagogias que se configuram e operam na noite da cidade de Porto Alegre, RS, Brasil. Para tanto, a pesquisa tratou de investigar como determinados lugares públicos noturnos proporcionam condições que ensejam experiências de aprendizagem implicadas com o que denomino pedagogias da noite. Posicionada no campo dos Estudos Culturais em Educação e partindo de pressupostos teóricos acerca das transformações culturais destacadas por S. Hall, T. Eagleton, Z. Bauman e R. Williams, a pesquisa se insere nas discussões levantadas por autores como H. Giroux, S. Steinberg, E. Ellsworth, M. V. Costa. V. C. Camozzato e P. D. Andrade em torno da pluralização do conceito de pedagogia e de seus espaços de atuação. O primeiro movimento da pesquisa procurou mapear representações da noite no campo das Artes, bem como nas produções das Ciências Humanas e Sociais em que o tema tem sido objeto de estudo. Tal levantamento evidenciou diferentes olhares, tanto para a formação de imaginários noturnos quanto para a diversidade de experiências vividas na noite, sugerindo distintos modos de condução em seus espaços-tempos. O segundo movimento consistiu nas saídas de campo em que o pesquisador-flâneur traçou rotas noturnas na região central de Porto Alegre. Os lugares noturnos selecionados foram três viadutos, duas ruas de um bairro boêmio e um grande parque da cidade. A pesquisa fez uso de uma metodologia de investigação híbrida, utilizando procedimentos inspirados na “etnografia pós-moderna” praticada por S. Gottshalk, na técnica da “observação casual” descrita por Lorite García e na “metodologia polifônica” adotada por M. Canevacci. O corpus de análise foi composto a partir das observações e registros das práticas sociais noturnas e dos relatos de sujeitos abordados nos lugares investigados. Viver na solidão, apegar-se aos pertences pessoais e protegê-los, assim como a desconfiança, resultam de aprendizagens daqueles que habitam nos viadutos à noite. Nas ruas boêmias, a adoção de formas estéticas, os encontros e a busca de relacionamentos afetivos são comportamentos aprendidos nas pedagogias da noite. Aprender a conhecer as intenções do outro pelo uso de “táticas” e “habilidades” realçaram-se como experiências no convívio laboral noturno. Comum a todos os lugares e relatos, evidenciaram-se experiências em que o medo e a insegurança promovem aprendizagens para a proteção na vida urbana noturna. Autores como R. Sennett, M. Canevacci, M. Maffesoli, Yi Fu-Tuan, M. Certeau, J. Larrosa e D. W. Winnicott embasaram as discussões analíticas. A relação do “eu” com o outro e com o lugar foi identificada como linha mestra das experiências de aprendizagem desenvolvidas por meio das condições exteriores e de como são interiorizadas pelos sujeitos. Intrínsecos aos modos de viver e aprender, esses movimentos de “exteriorização” e “interiorização” permitiram visualizar como as pedagogias se configuram e operam na noite. Funcionando como movimentos de articulação, as pedagogias da noite ensejam experiências em que os sujeitos aprendem tanto a conduzir quanto a conduzir-se e serem conduzidos nas situações e condições que determinados lugares noturnos da metrópole proporcionam. / How different pedagogies work in the metropolis nocturnal time space? In order to answer this question, the main objective of this thesis consists of give visibility to the pedagogies that are configured and operate in the night of Porto Alegre city, RS, Brazil. Therefore, the research sought to investigate how certain nocturnal public places provide conditions that entice learning experiences implied with what I call pedagogies of the night. Inscribed in the field of Cultural Studies in Education and based on theoretical assumptions about the cultural transformations highlighted by S. Hall, T. Eagleton, Z. Bauman and R. Williams, the research is inserted in the discussions raised by authors such as H. Giroux, S Steinberg, E. Ellsworth, MV Costa. V. C. Camozzato and P. D. Andrade around the pluralization of pedagogy concept and its spaces of acting. The first research movement pursued to map the representations of the night in the Arts field, as well as in the productions of Social and Human Sciences in which the subject has been object of study. This collection evidenced the different views, both for the nocturnal imaginaries formation and for the diversity of experiences lived at night, suggesting different modes of conduction in their time-spaces. The second movement consisted of field outing in which the researcher-flâneur traced nocturnal routes in the central region of Porto Alegre. The selected night spots were three viaducts, two streets of a bohemian neighborhood and a large city park. The research used a hybrid research methodology, utilizing procedures inspired by the "postmodern ethnography" practiced by S. Gottschalk, by the "casual observation" technique described by Lorite García and by "polyphonic methodology" adopted by M. Canevacci (2005). The corpus of analysis was composed from the observations and records of the nocturnal social practices and the subject’s reports approached in the investigated places. Living in solitude, clinging to personal belongings and protecting them, as well as the distrust, result as learnings of those who inhabit viaducts at night. In the bohemian streets, the adoption of aesthetic forms, the encounters and the search for affective relationships are behaviors learned in the pedagogies of the night. Learning to know each other's intentions through the use of "tactics" and "abilities" have been emphasized as experiences in the life at night. Common to all places and reports, there have been experiences in which fear and insecurity promote learning for protection in the urban night life. Authors like R. Sennett, M. Canevacci, M. Maffesoli, Yi Fu-Tuan, M. Certeau, J. Larrosa and D. W. Winnicott supported the analytical discussions. The relation of the "self" to the other and with the place was identified as the main line of learning experiences developed through external conditions and how they are internalized by the subjects. Intrinsic to the ways of living and learning, these movements of "exteriorization" and "interiorization" allowed to visualize how the pedagogies are configured and operate at night. Functioning as articulation movements, the pedagogies of the night provide experiences in which the subjects learn to drive and conduct themselves as well as to be conducted in the situations and conditions that certain metropolis nocturnal places provide.

iSpace? : identity & space : a visual ethnography with young people and mobile phone technologiesJotham, Victoria Anne January 2012 (has links)
Mobile phone technologies are transforming how young people think, work, play and relate to each other. However, a central concern for the thesis is that education policy and practice far too often resembles an industrial model that is standardised, mechanistic and linear and that rarely reflects the informational, dynamic and creative lives of young people. In particular, the educational project fails to connect with the way young people use their mobile phone technologies to multi-task, connect, and create content at a precipitous rate. This thesis focuses on the ways in which mobile phone technology is now a significant influence in the way young people develop a sense of self, and a sense of identity and agency that permeates the way they engage with education. The specific research questions that follow from this are: how are young peoples’ identities shaping the meaning and use of mobile phones within (im)material culture? How is the relationship between identity and the creation and use of social space being defined through mobile phone technology? And, taken together how might these processes of identity development influence the way the educational project develops in the future? This thesis addressed these aims by conducting a visual ethnographic study over three years, using participation observation in a sixth-form college in the UK that included video interviews with seven college students. The research has produced a conceptual framework that documents a number of key findings that include: (a) the mobile phone has an immediate symbolic value to young people providing signals about the user’s identity, or presentation of the self; (b) the mobile phone also helps facilitate the performance of lived experiences and is actively part of assisting in various forms of agency. (c) The mobile phone enables a constant flow of (re)presentations of young people that reflects a fluidity of identity that characterises key aspects of contemporary social life. Finally, (d) the mobile phone also supports and enhances the maintenance of social space through the maintenance of social groups and also crucially, the feeling of being oneself. The main conclusion drawn from this research is that too often education systems overlook that fact that learning for young people is typically, and inevitably, personal and yet at the same time located in connected, information-driven environments that are predisposed to digital technologies. Therefore, this research argues for educational policy makers and practitioners to think creatively about how to develop education in ways that fundamentally support young people in their (re)construction of a personalised landscape for learning through their mobile phone technologies.

It looks for a new approach to the structure of this medium, analyzes its structure from a narrative point of view and it further transfers this new knowledge to art education practice in a form of research project for high school students (in the first grade). In this part of the research, different students' approaches towards reading and creating visual narratives were identified, in particular the use of fragments of visual culture. This dissertation is thus a contribution to a view on visual culture as an important part of teaching the art education. A Maoli-Based Art Education: Ku'u Mau Kuamo'o 'ŌleloAndrus, Raquel Malia 13 March 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Leaders in K-12 education in Hawai'i are increasingly advocating for and utilizing the culture and knowledge of the kānaka Maoli, the native people of these islands, as a context for learning in a variety of curricular disciplines and approaches (Benham & Heck, 1998; Kani'iaupuni, Ledward & Jensen, 2010; Kana'iaupuni & Malone, 2006; Kahakalau, 2004; Meyer, 2004). To expand upon this trend, this thesis uses a combination of autoethnographic and critical indigenous methodologies to present a personal narrative that looks specifically at approaching art education from a Maoli perspective. Through extensive participant/observer reflections, two place-based and culture-based art education experiences are juxtaposed with an experience working on a culturally-based collaborative mural project. Four significant kuamo'o, a concept which holds multiple meanings, including: "backbone, spine; road, trail path; custom, way," (Puku'i & Elbert, 1986), emerge as significant markers of meaningful Maoli-based art education: 1) mo'oku'auhau, genealogy and acknowledgement of those who have come before us, 2) mo'olelo, stories which belong to our place, 3) an idea that I am labeling pili ka mo'o, which literally means, the lizard is intertwined but can be translated through metaphor to mean someone who is intimate and deeply connected, and 4) aloha, a profound and honest love.

Centering Children's Voices and Cultural Worlds in an Online Writing ClubKnight, Rachel Powers January 2023 (has links)
For 10 weeks, an online writing club was a place where seven children, ages 5 to 8, came together to co-construct a space for sharing favorite texts and composing practices. This study documents the ways that the writing club offered a space for children to construct shared literacy practices that allowed for new meaning-making, social relationships, and literate identities. As the researcher and facilitator of the writing club, I took up an inquiry as stance position, which provided a generative space for exploring the tensions between practice and theory.
Additionally, literacy dig analysis provided an opportunity to understand the discursive elements of the popular culture texts that young children bring into their literacy practices. Taking up sociocultural and critical childhood frameworks as well as multiliteracies and multimodal models of literacy, I explored the following questions: How do young children narrate their identities and social worlds through text? What stories (narratives) and resources do young children value and take up when writing? How do young children take up the space of an informal, online writing group to pursue intellectual, social, cultural, and composing lives?
Over the 10 weeks, the writing club developed into a space where telling jokes, grabbing a notebook to learn how to draw like Dav Pilkey, and creating a plan for surviving “infinity holes” signaled belonging. Children shared interests often deemed inappropriate for school spaces (e.g., consumer culture, violence, and video games) and took up ideas from popular culture (e.g., Minecraft, LOL and Calico dolls, and Captain Cage) in their composing practices. The literacies of the children in this study were mobilized by family participation, the shared and private spaces in homes, and opportunities to experiment outside of the constraints of school curricular goals and expectations.
As the children engaged in transmedia and multimodal composing practices, new literate identities were revealed and established expertise in knowledge of popular culture and digital composing practices helped reposition how children were seen by their peers in the writing club. The social and composing practices of the young children in this online writing club have important implications for the ways we design writing spaces and curriculum for young children that center children’s culture, composing practices, and ways of knowing and being as important resources for teaching and learning.

A Landscape Preference Study Of Campus Open SpaceZhang, Ying 13 May 2006 (has links)
The current study is an empirical study of preference for campus open space around the drill field on Mississippi State University (MSU) campus. 83 students at Mississippi State University were selected as research objects. Based on the literature review, a research process was designed to employ VEP, content analysis and multivariate analysis---Biplot to explore the interested research problems. The study identified two most preferred landscape scene types - "Legibility" and "Coherence" using Kaplan?s "information processing model". A statistical analysis tool for multivariate analysis-Biplot was used to reveal the landscape preference patterns for campus open space as well as how certain landscape features can contribute these patterns. The study found factors such as gender, educational and cultural background can heavily affect these patterns. The result indicated that "vegetations" including tree, seasonal flowers and open grassland, were the most preferred landscape feature on campus open space. Finally, the limitations of this study were discussed and some recommendations for future landscape preference study were provided.

Briefly describes the history of Gypsies in the world and in our country, explores key points in history, when they first appear splits between the majority and the Gypsies minority. It also describes possible partial solution to this problem in multicultural education and awareness among the Roma and the majority society. There is mention of a key idea that a large part of the conflict between the two companies stems from a mutual lack of understanding of both cultures. The practical part deals with the attitudes and relationships of the majority of the Roma, which is directly experienced in every day life.
