El objetivo general que se plantea este estudio es investigar cómo se resuelve el tratamiento de los elementos culturales en la traducción de textos en el caso concreto de las culturas árabe e hispánica. Para alcanzarlo planteamos estos cuatro objetivos específicos:- Presentar un estado de la cuestión de los enfoques traductológicos que centran su interés en la transferencia cultural y de las distintas propuestas teóricas acerca de la relación entre el lenguaje y la cultura, para establecer el marco teórico de la investigación.- Elaborar un modelo para el análisis de los elementos culturales en la traducción.- Describir el fenómeno de la transferencia cultural en la traducción.- Describir e indagar los focos culturales que generan los problemas de índole cultural más significativos en la traducción árabe-español.En relación a estos cuatro objetivos en nuestra investigación se han logrado los siguientes resultados:I. CONFECCIÓN DEL MARCO TEÓRICO DE ANÁLISIS DE LA TRADUCCIÓN DE LOS CULTUREMAS.Que realizamos:- Presentando un estado de la cuestión sobre las propuestas traductológicas centradas en los aspectos socioculturales de la traducción.- Elaborando un modelo de análisis de la traducción de los elementos culturales.II. PROPUESTA DE MODELO DE ANÁLISIS DE LA TRADUCCIÓN DE LOS CULTUREMAS Y VERIFICACIÓN DE SU VALIDEZ..- Modelo de análisis para la contextualización y caracterización de las traducciones.- Modelo de análisis para identificar y clasificar los ámbitos culturales.- Modelo de análisis para la identificación y clasificación de la traducción de los culturemas: las técnicas de traducción.III. DESCRIPCIÓN DEL FUNCIONAMIENTO DE LA TRANSFERENCIA CULTURAL EN LA TRADUCCIÓN.La variedad de los resultados ofrecidos por los textos traducidos para el trasvase de los culturemas confirma la hipótesis general del trabajo, según la cual, la traducción de los culturemas es múltiple.Esta constatación principal va acompañada de las siguientes conclusiones:1. Las circunstancias que envuelven el texto traducido condicionan la elección de un método y el modo de resolver los elementos culturales.2. Existe una correlación entre la elección de un método traductor y la adopción de unas determinadas soluciones, que se corresponden con el empleo de una determinada técnica de traducción.3. La validez de la utilización de las técnicas de traducción está determinada por su contexto de uso.4. En el modo de resolver la traducción de los culturemas participan normas culturales.IV. LOCALIZACIÓN DE LOS FOCOS CULTURALES ENTRE LAS CULTURAS ÁRABE E HISPÁNICA1. Los ámbitos que concentran mayor grado de conflictividad en la traducción árabe-español son: Patrimonio cultural, Medio natural y Cultura lingüística.2. Los focos culturales pueden surgir de las características de una sola de las dos lenguas-culturas, y por tanto, manifestándose únicamente en una de las dos direcciones de la traducción. / The general aim of this study is to examine how the problem of dealing with cultural elements is resolved in the translation of texts, specifically in the case of Hispanic and Arab cultures. To this end, the following four specific objectives were established:- To present a state of the art review of translation studies approaches focusing on cultural transfer, as well as the various theoretical proposals concerning the relationship between language and culture, in order to establish a theoretical framework for the research;- To develop a model for the analysis of cultural elements in translation;- To describe the phenomenon of cultural transfer in translation;- To describe and examine those cultural focal points which give rise to the most significant culture-based problems in translation between Arabic and Spanish;In relation to these four objectives, our research has obtained the following results:I. ESTABLISHMENT OF A THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE TRANSLATION OF CULTUREMES.This was done by:- Presenting a state of the art review of those translation studies proposals dealing specifically with the sociocultural aspects of translation;- Developing a model for the analysis of the translation of cultural elements.II. PROPOSED MODEL FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE TRANSLATION OF CULTUREMES AND A VERIFICATION OF THE VALIDITY OF THAT MODEL.- Analytical model for the contextualisation and characterisation of translations.- Analytical model for the identification and classification of cultural contexts.- Analytical model for the identification and classification of the translation of culturemes: translation techniques.III. DESCRIPTION OF THE MECHANISM OF CULTURAL TRANSFER IN TRANSLATION.The variety of results afforded by translated texts in the transfer of culturemes confirms the general hypothesis of the present study, which is that there are multiple ways of translating culturemes.This main observation is accompanied by the following conclusions:1) The circumstances surrounding the translated text will influence the choice of method and the manner in which the cultural elements are resolved.2) There is a correlation between the choice of a particular translation, method and the adoption of certain solutions, which correspond to the use of a particular translation technique.3) The validity of using a particular translation technique is determined by the context in which it is used.4) Cultural norms are involved in the way in which culturemes are translated.IV. PIN-POINTING THE CULTURAL FOCAL POINTS BETWEEN ARAB AND HISPANIC CULTURES.1) Those contexts which pose the greatest problems in translating between Arabic and Spanish are: cultural heritage, the natural environment and linguistic culture.2) Cultural focal points may stem from the characteristics of just one of the two language-cultures and therefore become apparent in only one direction of translation between the pair.

El objetivo del presente estudio es analizar las estrategias utilizadas en la traducción española de la novela sueca Descansa en paz, escrita por John Ajvide Lindqvist y traducida al español por Gemma Pecharromán. Nuestro propósito ha sido indagar sobre cuál es la estrategia más empleada entre las estrategias de la categorización de Svane (2002). El estudio se realizó investigando cuatro categorías distintas de la tabla de Paula Igareda (2011): comparaciones, topónimos y lugares, alusiones, y líricas y poemas. También se ha investigado la relación entre las categorías y las estrategias de traducción más empleadas. Finalmente hemos investigado si las categorías analizadas tienen una inclinación hacia la extranjerización o la domesticación, según las teorías de Venuti (1995) y García Yebra (1982). El resultado muestra que la estrategia de traducción más empleada es la traducción directa, la que constituye el 55,8% de los ejemplos. Los datos obtenidos incluso indican que hay una diferencia entre las estrategias más empleadas, dependiendo de la categoría. También muestran que las categorías analizadas tienen una inclinación hacia la extranjerización.

El estudio plantea el reto de la traducción y la cultura a través del análisis de los elementos lingüístico-culturales o culturemas. La investigación tiene una doble vertiente: en primer lugar, el interés por el fenómeno de la interculturalidad y, en segundo lugar, la intención de describir los condicionantes y las variables que operan en la traducción de los textos turísticos, considerados como textos enmarcados en una categoría textual independiente. El corpus analizado se compone de 714 culturemas extraídos de guías Lonely Planet cuyos destinos son diferentes ciudades y regiones españolas. Los principales objetivos han sido: 1) llevar a cabo un estudio descriptivo de las técnicas de traducción utilizadas para la transmisión de los culturemas propios de la cultura española a través del empleo de un modelo de técnicas de traducción ya testado previamente; 2) realizar un estudio de los campos semánticos del texto turístico con mayor número de culturemas y focos culturales; y 3) proponer una clasificación de los culturemas según su dificultad para la traducción. El estudio concluye que existen distintos grados de transmisibilidad de los culturemas y que el préstamo y la amplificación lingüística son las técnicas más utilizadas por los traductores, quienes no siempre consiguen transmitir el 100% de la carga cultural. Esta investigación contribuye a cubrir el vacío académico existente y sienta las bases para futuros estudios que incluyen la localización, así como los nuevos géneros y modalidades de textos turísticos surgidas de Internet. / González Pastor, DM. Translation is all about finding the similar word and expression in the target language ́s culture and to try to obtain the same message as the source text. What a translator does with a translation project from the source language to the target language includes a process where several elements interact: finding the correct terminology in the target culture and be able to transfer the connotation and the message to the reader in the target language. The aim of this investigation is to identify and analyze the difficulties that may appear in the process of translating cultural aspects between Swedish and Spanish. The source text is a Swedish study Mediebilden av Sverige efter Stieg Larsson och Millennium (Sweden beyond the Millennium and Stieg Larsson) by Joakim Lind (2012) that has been translated into Spanish. The purpose of this study is to investigate if the translation techniques neutralization and the cultural equivalent are most suitable to use in the translation of cultural elements. The results of the study showed what was expected from the beginning, that it was mostly these two translation techniques that were used: neutralization and the cultural equivalent, but in several cases it was necessary to use other techniques like literal translation. The process of translation cannot only depend on one or two translation techniques and the translator must be able to recognize when the appropriate technique should be used. In several cases it has to be a combination of two or three translation techniques to be able to reach a good final result of the translated text.

El presente trabajo examina las estrategias traductoras utilizadas en la traslación al español de los topónimos y los conceptos referentes al patrimonio cultural y la naturaleza, es decir, los culturemas del relato sueco El maravilloso viaje de Nils Holgersson a través de Suecia escrito por Selma Lagerlöf. Dos traducciones surgidas en diferentes contextos sociohistóricos en España son contrastadas con el objetivo de determinar de qué manera divergen. Los resultados muestran que la primera traducción en gran medida adapta los conceptos específicos para Suecia al ambiente sociohistórico y natural reconocibles para el lector español. La segunda traducción, al contrario, lleva al lector hispanohablante conceptos que le podrían resultar exóticos. Los topónimos son adoptados sin grandes modificaciones. Aun así, ninguno de los traductores se ajusta a seguir una línea coherente de traducción, el hecho que se puede explicar por la pertenencia del relato al género de la literatura juvenil cuyos objetivos son tanto educar como entretener. / The present study examines the patterns used in the translation into Spanish of some Swedish place names and cultural and natural characteristics in Selma Lagerlöf’s novel The wonderful adventures of Nils. Two translations that emerged in different socio-historical contexts in Spain are compared in order to determine how they diverge. The results show that the first translation largely adapts the Sweden-specific concepts to the notions that are recognizable by the Spanish reader. The second translation, on the contrary, offers to a greater extent culture-specific phenomena to its readers. Place names are mainly adopted without modifications. Despite this, both translators rather use a strategy mix in order to adjust the text to its juvenile audience and to preserve both the didactic and the entertaining values of the Swedish text.

The aim of this paper is to carry out a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the semantic and pragmatic aspects of a translation from Spanish into Swedish. Taking advantage our extensive knowledge of the local area we selected a book about the cultural heritage of Seville. Owing to the differences in the two cultures we expected to find numerous foreign cultural words – that we call culturemes – throughout the book that have no direct equivalence in Swedish. Our intention was to detect them and describe by means of several examples the translation techniques we used in order to adapt the target text to the Swedish reader. At the end we also carried out a quantitative analysis of the 252 culturemes we found, with a table showing which translation techniques dominate, and the frequency of occurrence of other techniques. We aimed to transfer as many culturemes as possible in order to give the target text some local color. This is the strategy called foreignization, recommended by Venuti. Throughout the translation and analysis process we concluded that the translator must have a sound linguistic and cultural knowledge of both the source and target languages in order to successfully resolve cultural differences and create an idiomatic and pragmatic translation.
