Estudo retrospectivo de casuística, abrangendo metodologia diagnóstica da osteoartrite em eqüinos / Retropective study of casuistic, including diagnostic methodology of osteoarthritis in equine

Ana Carolina Rocha Veiga 20 December 2006 (has links)
The equine sinovial joints are submitted do different degrees of physical stress, depending on the movement performed. With work and hard training, the increase on the loads applied to its tissues maycause mechanically induced synovitis, with production and release of cytokines, and consequently metalloproteinases stimulation and other inflammatory components. These events may lead to anunbalance between the synthesis and degradation processes, of proteoglycan and glicosaminoglycan of the cartilaginous matrix, leading to the osteoarthritis. Regarding the magnitude of the osteoarthritis incidence on athletic horses, our goal is to characterize the horse population with confirmed osteoarthritis diagnoses examined by the Equine Internal Medicine Service at the Veterinary Hospital at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of University of São Paulo, in a 10 year period. The retrospective study was performed through the analysis of documented cases. The sampling included the totality of equide cases with confirmed joint disease diagnosis and analyzed considering: age, sex, breed, sportive activity, beginning and evolution of the disease, clinical signs observed and radiographic exam. One hundred and fifty two (152) equides hospital forms with confirmed osteoarthritis were analyzed .It was found that most cases were equines, with an average age of 8 years, either male or female, with the predominance of Quarter Horses, Mangalarga Paulista and Mixed Breds, weighing around 420Kg, used for long distance rides or western activities. The average time between the beginning of the osteoarthritis clinical signs and the referring to the hospital was 7,7 months. The statistical analysis did not show relation between lameness, palpable pain, hoof sensitivity, muscular pain, positive flexion test and use (p>0,05). Although, its howed a relation between edema /heat and use (p<0,05). No relation was found between palpable pain, edema/heat, hoof and muscular pain and lameness (p<0,05). The results found in the radiographic evaluation of the animals with osteoarthritis showed no direct relation between the radiographic score and lameness. The animals with osteoarthritis more frequently sent to the Equine Internal Medicine Service -HOVET-USP, is equine , Quarter Horse, 8 years old, 420Kg, used in western competitions.

For this, using two hybrid (N901 and H9553) conducted an experiment in a agricultural greenhouse, in randomized complete block and in factorial arrangement with four replications. The treatments are composed of fourteen nutrient solutions as follows : full/control and the solutions with omitting isolated nutrients (-N, -P, -K, -Ca, -Mg, -S, -B, -Cu, -Fe, -Mn, -Mo, -Zn) and only deionized water. Held sowing in trays with substrates for later transplanting for phenolic foam. Daily treatments to be applied and/or deionized water solutions. For 30 days of experiment was realized the analysis and records the evolution of nutritional deficiency symptoms. The results showed that the omission of isolated nutrient committed to quality seedlings, leading to morphological changes. The first symptoms developed on seedlings grown under omission, N and deionized water, Fe and Ca, respectively. The dry mass decreased in all treatments, except in the absence of B, with the following order of reduction: deionized water = N > Ca > K = P = S = Fe > Mg = Mn = Mo > Complete = Cu = Zn > B. These results are different from those found in the literature of adult plants. There was not interaction between the solutions and the hybrids, however the H9553 was more sensitive to nutritional deficiencies.

Sistema de visão artificial para a diagnose nutricional de ferro, boro, zinco e cobre em plantas de milho / Artificial vision system for the nutritional diagnosis of iron, boron, zinc and copper in maize plants

Mário Antonio Marin 14 December 2012 (has links)
The research aimed to evaluate the methodology of the Pr oject Tree Vis for determining nutrition iron, boron, zinc and copper in maize plants subjected to doses of these nutrients. Zucchini lethal chlorosis virus (ZLCV): detecção, avaliação de danos em abobrinha de moita e reação de espécies de cucurbitáceas / Zucchini lethal chlorosis virus (ZLCV): detection, evaluation the damage on zucchini squash and the reaction of species of cucurbits

José Segundo Giampan 31 August 2007 (has links)
Zucchini lethal chlorosis virus is a specie of the Genus Tospovirus, transmitted by thrips (Frankliniella zucchini), which infects some species of the family Cucurbitaceae. The occurrence of this Tospovirus has already been reported for several Brazilian states and its incidence in cucurbit crops has increased in the last years in some regions. Considering the importance of this Tospovirus for cucurbit crops, very little is known about the damage caused by this virus and the reaction of the different species of cucurbits to infection. This work aimed: to study the efficiency of the RT-PCR for the fast and specific detection of ZLCV, to evaluate the damage caused by this virus on zucchini squash under field condition and the reaction of seven species/varieties of cucurbits to infection with this Tospovirus. The detection of ZLCV by RT-PCR was studied using a pair of primers designed based on the nucleotide sequence of the SRNA of ZLCV (AF067069). Four other Tospovirus species (TSWV, TCSV, GRSV and CSNV) and other virus that infect cucurbits (mild strain PRSV-W-1, wild strain PRSV-WC, mild strain ZYMV-M, wild strain ZYMV-Atibaia and CMV) were included in this test. The RT-PCR reaction generated a fragment of approximately 350 bp, only amplified from total RNA extracted from plant infected with ZLCV. The sequence of this fragment presented 98.2 % identity with the corresponding nucleotide sequence of the S-RNA of ZLCV deposited in the GenBank. The damage caused by ZLCV on zucchini squash (Cucurbita pepo cv. Caserta) was evaluated under field condition. Zucchini squash plants were weekly monitored for the presence of characteristic symptoms induced by ZLCV and PTA-ELISA for virus indexing. Plants were grouped based on the time the symptoms were first seen. Fruits harvested from each plant within each group were classified on marketable (M) and non-marketable (NM) based on the phenotype. Plants that did not show symptoms by the end of the crop were considered still healthy and their yield was used as control. Zucchini squash plants that showed symptoms of ZLCV infection up to 23 days after emergency (DAE) did not yield any fruit. Marketable fruits were first harvested only from plants that showed symptoms 42 DAE. However, the yield of marketable fruits was reduced by 78.5 %, as compared to that from asymptomatic plants. Plants that showed symptoms 55 DAE showed a reduction on the yield of marketable fruit of 9.6%. The reaction of seven species/varieties of cucurbits to infection with ZLCV was evaluated under field and greenhouse conditions. In the field experiment, ZLCV infection occurred naturally. In the greenhouse, plants were twice mechanically inoculated with ZLCV at the cotyledonal stage. Evaluations were based on symptoms expression and PTA-ELISA. Zucchini squash 'Caserta' and hybrid squash 'Takaiama' were highly susceptible. The cucumber 'Safira' presented low percentage of infected plants in the field and intermediate in the greenhouse. Watermelon 'Crimson Sweet', northern gherkin, long neck squash 'Menina Brasileira' and winter squash 'Alice' presented lower values of infected plants. Winter squash 'Exposição' was highly resistant to infection under field and greenhouse conditions.

Strategies in Clinical and Laboratory Diagnosis of Inherited Platelet Function Disorders in Children

Knöfler, Ralf, Streif, Werner January 2010 (has links)
Inherited disorders of platelet function are a rare and heterogeneous group of diseases usually characterised by a mild to moderate bleeding tendency. Typical bleeding symptoms are easy bruising, epistaxis, menorrhagia as well as mucocutaneous and perioperative bleeding. The performance of platelet function diagnostics in children is hampered by age-dependent restriction of blood sample size, poor venous access, and the lack of reproducible test reference ranges for children of different age groups. Platelet function testing is limited to specialised centres, because platelet function test procedures are complicated and time-consuming, which most likely results in a relevant number of undiagnosed and incorrectly classified children with clinically relevant platelet function defects. Evaluation of bleeding history and bleeding symptoms is essential for a rational step-bystep approach to diagnosis. Platelet function diagnostics should be preceded by the exclusion of thrombocytopenia, von Willebrand disease, and secondary haemostasis defects. Light transmission aggregometry is still considered the standard for the assessment of platelet function. Every effort should be made to classify the specific platelet function defect in the patient, because this is essential for accurate treatment and counselling. Automotive Diagnosis Data Aggregation, Management and Evaluation in Cloud based Environment

Zamani, Farshad 11 September 2018 (has links)
Automotive diagnosis data are useful for the automotive OEMs and third parties in order to analyze the vehicle performance and driving behavior. This data can be access and read in real time situation using the On-Board Diagnosis system which is located inside the vehicle and is accessible by its socket. However, as the diagnosis data are in real time and not being stored, analyzing them is not easy. Therefore, in this project, a program on Raspberry Pi will be developed which is going to read diagnosis data and store them in a cloud database. The cloud database will handle the data storage and keep the data for further analysis and evaluations. The database will be accessible everywhere as it is using cloud technology. On the other hand, in order to provide easy and meaningful access to the data, a web application is developed in order to visualize the data by means of Graphs, Texts, and maps.

Hypertension in Overweight and Obese Primary Care Patients Is Highly Prevalent and Poorly Controlled

Bramlage, Peter, Pittrow, David, Wittchen, Hans-Ulrich, Kirch, Wilhelm, Boehler, Steffen, Lehnert, Hendrik, Hoefler, Michael, Unger, Thomas, Sharma, Arya M. January 2004 (has links)
Background: Although the relationship between body weight and blood pressure (BP) is well established, there is a lack of data regarding the impact of obesity on the prevalence of hypertension in primary care practice. The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of hypertension and the diagnosis, treatment status, and control rates of hypertension in obese patients as compared to patients with normal weight. Methods: A cross-sectional point prevalence study of 45,125 unselected consecutive primary care attendees was conducted in a representative nationwide sample of 1912 primary care physicians in Germany (HYDRA). Results: Blood pressure levels were consistently higher in obese patients. Overall prevalence of hypertension (blood pressure ≥140/90 mm Hg or on antihypertensive medication) in normal weight patients was 34.3%, in overweight participants 60.6%, in grade 1 obesity 72.9%, in grade 2 obesity 77.1%, and in grade 3 obesity 74.1%. The odds ratio (OR) for good BP control (<140/90 mm Hg) in diagnosed and treated patients was 0.8 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.7– 0.9) in overweight patients, 0.6 (95% CI 0.6–0.7) in grade 1, 0.5 (95% CI 0.4–0.6) in grade 2, and 0.7 (95% CI 0.5– 0.9) in grade 3 obese patients.
