Études numérique et expérimentale de l'instabilité de Rayleigh-Plateau : Application aux jets d'encres / Numerical and experimental studies of Rayleigh-Plateau instability : Application for inkjet printing

Rosello, Maxime 02 February 2017 (has links)
Rayleigh-Plateau instability is used in continuous ink jet (CIJ) printers in order to drive ink jets breakup. Studies of such mechanisms are based on pluri-disciplinary concepts dealing with fluid mechanics, rheology and polymer sciences. The present work focuses on fluid properties and nozzles designs influences onto breakup dynamics. In this context, the experimental characterization of ink physical and rheological properties are of particular interest. Thereafter, jet dynamics computations are performed using several software and compared with experiences. Potential non Newtonian behaviours such as shear-thinning or viscoelasticity are modelled by computations. A close link between breakup dynamics and velocity profile at the nozzle exit is highlighted. This link is believed to bring crucial information for the prediction of jet dynamics observed in industrial printers.

Modification de lignines issues de la fabrication des pâtes lignocellulosiques en vue de leur incorporation dans des formulations d'encres / Modification of lignins from lignocellulosic pulp in order to incorporate them into ink formulations

Bardot, Fanny 13 June 2016 (has links)
The originality of this work is to use lignin, an aromatic macromolecule from lignocellulosic biomass, in replacement of petroleum-based resins for the formulation of inks for food contact packaging applications. Different chemical modifications were carried out on commercial lignins, in order to make them compatible with the ink components. Used reagents and processes were chosen in order to limit the environmental impact of the whole value chain. Chemical modifications were monitored by several analytical techniques such as GPC SEC for the molar mass distribution and NMR and FTIR spectrometry for the monitoring of lignin functional groups. Ink properties were characterized by rheological and colorimetric (CIE L*a*b* system) measurements on printed samples. Among the significant results, changes in hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance were particularly noticed. Furthermore, the colour gamut of modified lignin-based inks was enhanced, compared to the one of unmodified lignin-based inks. Two applications emerged from this work: (1) formulation of lignin-based bio-sourced inks, which meet most of the industrial requirements, and (2), development of a modified lignin-based coating which improved barrier properties of recycled paperboard.

Relosi, Natanael 07 April 2016 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2016-06-20T18:52:21Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Natanael Relosi.pdf: 12806476 bytes, checksum: ebcfd4e992e53e3683c5ce7a0245866c (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2016-06-20T18:52:23Z (GMT). Factors favorable to the use of powder coatings include non-use of solvents, processing facilities/application and the possibility of reuse of material that did not adhere to the surface of the pieces. The thermal, mechanical and chemical characteristics of the obtained paint are influenced principally by the type of resin used. Hybrid (epoxy/polyester) powder coatings aimed at reconciling the weathering resistance characteristic and action of UV rays with the chemical resistance and mechanical characteristics. In the powder coatings can be added nanofillers which aims to improve the thermal, mechanical and chemical coatings. Another feature of nanofillers is the low financial cost resulting from the use of a lesser amount of filler, with a high level of performance. Among the nanofiller used, it can be cited muscovite mica and montmorillonite 30B (MMT 30B) that, when incorporated into the coatings, even at low concentrations, have higher barrier properties than conventional fillers. This work aims to develop and characterize a hybrid powder coating containing different amounts of muscovite mica and MMT 30B. Clayminerals have been incorporated in a standard formulation hybrid powder coatings in proportions of 2, 4 and 6% (w/w). Before applying the coating, the metal substrates were subjected to a pretreatment phosphating with zinc phosphate. After this, the powder paint was applied to panels with dimensions 70 x 120 x 0.65 mm carbon steel AISI 1010 through electrostatic spraying. The clayminerals, the powder paint and coating were analyzed using various characterization techniques, such as particle size analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), infrared spectroscopy in Fourier transform (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy for field emission (SEM-FEG). The effect of the incorporation of clayminerals in the physical properties and corrosion protection of coatings was evaluated with brightness measurement tests, adhesion, flexibility, impact resistance, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), exposure to fog saline (NS) and flame test. For all coatings containing clayminerals was found to increase the surface hardness of the coating and reduced gloss with increasing clay content, this being more pronounced effect with the addition of 6% (w/w) of MMT 30B. The adhesion of the coating to the substrate was not altered by the presence of clayminerals. The coatings containing mica muscovite showed better results in impact resistance tests and flexibility when compared to coatings containing MMT 30B. The sample TH/6/MICA showed better results in the electrochemical impedance test in relation to other systems studied. In the salt spray test all samples showed high corrosion protection. There were no blistering or corrosion spots on the surface of any of the samples. However, in the subsequent test of subcutaneous migration, the sample TH/2/MMT 30B showed the greatest peeling. In the flame test, coatings with incorporation of muscovite mica showed better results than coatings with MMT 30B. After analyzing all the tests, it is concluded that the addition of muscovite mica in the proportion of 4% resulted in an paint with improved thermal, mechanical and chemical properties.

Rodrigues, Karen da Silva 22 July 2016 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2016-11-24T15:47:54Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Karen da Silva Rodrigues.pdf: 234450 bytes, checksum: 270516cdc01e6f28c7e01cf88b148acf (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2016-11-24T15:47:54Z (GMT). Ink Key Presetting in Offset Printing Presses Using Digital Images of the Plates

Lehnberg, Linus January 2002 (has links)
During a make ready in a web offset press it is important to produce as little waste as possible. Reducing the amount of waste yields savings of both time and money. One way to do faster make ready is to preset the ink keys of the press before it is started. This diploma work, carried out at Sörmlands Grafiska Quebecor AB in the city of Katrineholm, Sweden, examines how the ink key preset may be done using low- resolution digital images stored in the vendor independent data format CIP3 PPF. The press that has been used has a control interface that is not accessible from the outside. This feature is shared with a lot of older presses. Therefore several methods of how to present and collect ink key settings using offline methods have been tested. To investigate the relationship between mean coverage over one ink zone and its corresponding ink key opening data from a 32-page web offset press has been collected. The mean coverage was taken from the CIP3 PPF files that were related to the collected print jobs. The relationship that was found between the coverage and the opening can be described with a transfer curve (one curve per printing unit and side). Using as few as three print jobs of high quality (density and dot gain within given tolerances) a first set of transfer curves may be created. These are close to the real ones and using print jobs where the ink key presettings have been calculated the transfer curves may be calibrated to perform better and better presetting calculations. To generate and calibrate the transfer curves and to extract the mean coverage values from the CIP3 PPF files and recalculate these to presetting values a computer program called IKPS (Ink Key Presetting System) was made. IKPS was made using MATLAB from MathWorks INC. IKPS have been tested for ink key presetting during a number of print jobs. Even though the transfer curves were uncalibrated the system performed well. As comparison the results from a plate scanner was used. Even if online transfer of the presetting values is preferable the big advantage with the IKPS is that it is an offline system and therefore it is possible to implement it on any kind of offset press, old as well as new. In order to generate reliable transfer curves the print jobs used for calibration must be of high printing quality and representative for that particular press. How the ink key presettings are presented in the press control room depends on what kind of press it is. IKPS works with CIP3 PPF files as well as low-resolution cmyk tiff files.
