An Examination of Print Placements: 1995-2008

Francis, Lois Elenore 10 July 2009 (has links) (PDF)
A relatively unexamined area of branded entertainment combines sports sponsorship with product placement, and occurs when a brand name or logo appears in a print photograph. The resulting photograph can be considered the print equivalent of product placement, or "print placement." Keenan, Pokrywczynski and Boyle (1995) determined the potential for exposure to advertising, brands, sponsors and symbols appearing in photographs in Sports Illustrated magazine. This thesis updates and expands the research on print placements through a content analysis of Sports Illustrated from 1995 through 2008. Results showed an increase over time in the number of print placements, and representation of additional product categories when compared with previous research.

"Ye Sons of Mars": British Representations of the Sudan Campaign in Print Culture, 1884–1899

Smith, Crystal E. 01 June 2017 (has links) (PDF)
From 1884 to 1885 the British were first engaged with the Mahdist forces of Sudan in an effort to first rescue the inhabitants of Khartuom, and later to rescue the rescuer Charles “Chinese” Gordon. The affair played out both in Parliament and the newspapers as journalists became the cheerleaders for Empire. My thesis focuses on Britain’s 1884-1890 Sudan Campaign through print culture using political debates, journalism, literature, memoirs, and art. I show how the activism of the press and the romanticism of the larger media reinforced ideas about imperialism and the British role within the Empire at large.

<b>ELECTROPLATED 3D PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS WITH UNIQUE GEOMETRY</b>

Kevin Michael Simonson (18419358) 29 April 2024 (has links)
<p dir="ltr">Printed Circuit Boards have become a vital component in the connected world in which we live in today. They can be found in all electronic devices, but their shape and function has been limited by the manufacturing capabilities of PCBs. The methods for manufacturing PCBs are well researched and optimized but have pitfalls as they are only capable of producing two dimensional, planar devices. As the demand for more integrated circuitry and electronics in devices like wearable technologies increases so will the need for a more flexible method for producing PCBs.</p><p dir="ltr">The purpose of this study was to create and analyze a method of creating PCBs using multi-material 3D printing and an electroplating process. The analysis includes an experimental procedure that will conclude whether the specimens created can conduct electricity at the same level of traditionally manufactured PCBs. This research proposed a procedure for manufacturing the PCBs and a testing apparatus designed to inject current at a specified level into the specimens so that the voltage could be measured. This allowed for the resistance of the specimens to be calculated and compared to known values for common materials used in PCB manufacturing.</p><p><br></p>

Textile Influence : exploring the relationship between textiles and products in the design process

Nilsson, Linnéa January 2015 (has links)
Textile materials and textile design are a part of countless products in our surroundings,as well as diverse design fields and industries, each of which has very different materialtraditions and working methods. The aim of this thesis is to add to our understandingof the relationship between textiles and products in the design process, and to explorehow textiles enter and influence product design processes and how products functionin textile design processes. A further aim is to examine the effect of new textiletechnology, such as smart textiles and 3D printed textiles, on this dynamic. This thesis is the result of an interplay between theoretical work, experimentalpractice-based projects, and observation of design practice, and it presents two typesof results: Firstly, descriptions of how the relationship can manifest itself in the designprocess, which give a broad picture of the relationship between textile and productand in so doing add to our understanding of textiles as design materials and highlightsome of the additional complexities and possibilities for the design process that comewith new forms of textiles. Secondly, this thesis presents ways of describing thedynamics between textiles and products in the design process, with the intention ofopening up for reflection on how we design, and can design, with textiles. Here, themain outcome is a theoretical framework which examines the relationship from botha product design and a textile design perspective, and includes methods and questionsthat can be used to explore and define how textiles and products meet in the designprocess.

Securing Print Services for Telemetry Post-Processing Applications

Hines, Larry, Kalibjian, Jeff 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2006 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Second Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 23-26, 2006 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / One of the primary goals of telemetry post processing is to format received data for review and analysis. This occurs by both displaying processed data on video monitors and by printing out the results to hardcopy media. Controlling access (i.e. viewing) of telemetry data in soft form (i.e. video monitor) is achieved by utilizing the existing framework of authentication and authorization on the client/server machines hosting the telemetry data (and post processing applications). Controlling access to hardcopy output has historically been much more problematic. This paper discusses how to implement secure printing services for telemetry post processing applications.

Vom CAD-Modell über die Simulation zum 3D-Druck und zurück : Simulationsansätze in einer, durch den 3D-Druck entfesselten, neuen Gestaltungsfreiheit

Prinz, Ralf 22 July 2016 (has links) (PDF)

Memories We Forget

Iacovone, Michael Dax 01 January 2005 (has links)
I have always preferred the journey to the destination. When I was growing up, my family drove back and forth between Florida and New York every summer. My father did the driving, my mother sat next to him, and my older brother and sister sat in the back seat. This left the cavernous back of the family station wagon for me and the luggage. There was no radio, very little conversation, and I didn't sleep. I spent these summer trips staring for endless hours, out of the back window of the car, transfixed on the expanse of open road behind us. Since I bought my first car I have traveled the country, and since I borrowed my first camera I have been documenting my travels. The miles of highway between destinations, the quiet hours, have interested me as much as, and often more than, the destination. The images in my exhibition are intended to document the journey. These photographs are sequential montages with each photo composed of multiple overlapping images that bleed into one another making an expansive image of open space. Each finished product represents a panorama, but unlike traditional panoramic images, forward, not lateral, movement defines them. Each new frame advances the journey while maintaining a connection with the frame before it. The ambiguity and lack of detail refer to the experience and the quietness of the elapsed time the journey has taken. The finished images reference the journey without necessarily referencing the destination. The presentation size is meant to fill the viewers' vision, making an all-encompassing experience.

LINDQVIST, EMMA January 2013 (has links)
This bachelor degree work investigates fashion as a non-verbal form of communication by the use of prints. Prints in fashion design today are categorized as placed prints or all-over prints. This work explores new dimensions in the use of a placed print by allowing it to interact with garment and body. It strives to take the prints within fashion one step further then just been pure surface decorations. With the main inspiration in T-shirt print design, the aim is to investigate the relation between halftoned, placed prints and garment by trying to achieve a depth within the expression. The main focus in the process is to find and define the depth within the printed textile and then to be able to apply it on garments on the body. Through research in material transparency in combination with screen printing, the work strives for a 3D moiré effect while moving. The work is to be seen as a suggestion of principles for interaction between prints, garments and body and to open up for a more complex way of working with prints within fashion. The combination between the striking 3D prints and the sharp black and white halftones creates a dynamic line-up. The collection provides the viewer with recognisable graphic pictures and elements as well as more abstract prints through layering. In this work it is found a possible technique to allow a message in a print to be communicated stronger. Through layering the printed textiles a new dimension were added to the expression in the motives and garments when interacting with the body. The continuation of this could be to try this effect with different motives and messages to be told. An interesting point of view would be to start with the viewer or receiver rather then the designers personal development in the project. It could possibly be as simple as creating a traditional T-shirt print with the message to communicate. Another alternative could be to carry out the communication of the motive in a whole garment and in how different garment types meet each other. / Program: Modedesignutbildningen

Effects of Paper Properties on Xerographic Print Quality

Chen, Siying 30 November 2011 (has links)
The objective of this thesis is to better understand the impact of paper and printer types on xerographic print quality. To achieve this objective, commercially printed samples comprising of ten different paper substrates printed using three different xerographic printers were examined. The print quality of these samples was assessed in terms of print microgloss and its nonuniformity, print density, print and gloss mottle, print roughness, and visual ranking. This study showed that print mottle conducted by Fast Fourier Transform produced the best correlation with visual ranking at the size range of 0.1 - 1mm, while print gloss mottle was found to affect print quality regardless of the mottle size. Brightness, opacity, basis weight, gloss 75, and roughness of these paper substrates were found to have the most significant effect on print quality. All of the optical properties of paper included in this analysis showed a strong correlation to print quality.
