Syftet med detta examensarbete var att undersöka vad det finns för didaktiska möjligheter i att utföra ekokritiska läsningar av dystopisk skönlitteratur vid undervisning om hållbar utveckling i svenskämnet. För att undersöka detta utfördes en ekokritisk läsning av science fiction- romanen Blade Runner, originaltitel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, av Philip K Dick. Tanken enligt mig var att romanen och dess skildring av en dystopisk värld kunde vara intressant att uppmärksamma i gymnasiet samt använda som underlag för diskussioner om potentiella framtidsscenarion. Utöver det ville jag, genom min analys, visa på vilka frågor gällande hållbar utveckling som en ekokritisk läsning av romanen kan lyfta fram. Utifrån detta ville jag sedan diskutera vilken potential just denna roman och den dystopiska genren i allmänhet kan ha i svenskundervisningen. Resultatet visade att det, i en ekokritisk läsning av romanen, finns tolkningsmöjligheter som belyser alla de tre huvudområden som Skolverket beskriver finns inom hållbar utveckling. Det betyder med andra ord att det finns möjligheter att öppna upp för diskussioner om hållbar utveckling utifrån ekokritiska läsningar av romanen. / The purpose of this degree project was to investigate what didactic possibilities can be found by performing ecocritical readings of dystopic literature while teaching students about sustainable development in the subject of Swedish. To investigate this, an ecocritical reading of the science fiction-novel Blade Runner, original title Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, by Philip K Dick was performed. My thought was that the novel and its depiction of a dystopic world could be interesting to acknowledge in an upper-secondary school environment, and use as a foundation for discussions about potential scenarios of the future. In addition to this I wanted to, through my analysis, show which questions regarding sustainable development that an ecocritical reading of the novel could generate. Furthermore, I wanted to discuss what potential this certain novel and the dystopic genre in general could have for teaching in the subject of Swedish. The results showed that there are, in an ecocritical reading of the novel, room for interpretations that highlights all of the three main areas that Skolverket describes as integral parts of sustainable development. In other words, the evidence suggests that there are possibilities to open up for discussions regarding sustainable development from ecocritical readings of the novel.

‘Pain is the Great Connector’ : Nature and Womanhood in the Songs of Chelsea WolfeHallberg, Therese January 2021 (has links)
This thesis explores the conception and embodiment of nature in the songs of American folkmusic/doom metal singer-songwriter Chelsea Wolfe. Through the theoretical perspective of ecocritical feminism that emphasise the interconnectedness of the subjugation of women and the environment, this study delves into how Wolfe’s songs relate to nature and the feminine in relation to voice and song. I employ the methodology of Critical Musicology as described by Lawrence Kramer, to provide an understanding of the relationship between song, text and language. And to further facilitate a comprehensive understanding of gender and vocal expression, I utilise the feminist vocal philosophy of Adriana Cavarero where the logocentric division of speech and sound is scrutinised. Alongside this study’s primary focus on Wolfe’s vocal expression, attention to how ideas are musicalized and conveyed through sound and textual inclusions contribute to a richer and more nuanced understanding of how the relationship with nature is embodied in Wolfe’s songs.

The Misty Mountains of The Hobbit : or There and Back Again: The Journey from an Ecocritical Point of ViewSjöstedt, Emil January 2024 (has links)
In this essay, J.R.R. Tolkien´s novel The Hobbit is analysed from an Ecocritical perspective. How environments/places are described, and what meaning can be attributed to these places is analysed using second wave ecocritical theory. This means that the relationship between what is seen as human and what is seen as non-human isdiscussed in relation to meaning and agency. The main theme of the novel is a journey, and there is a reoccurring motif of longing which forms a framework of safety against which the dangerous journey through the Wild is contrasted. This framework has been used to decide which scenes to analyse. Further, Buell´s theory of place-connectednessis used to describe the relationship between the characters and the places. The placeconnectedness affects how meaning is created in the interaction between the human and the non-human. Lastly, a previous essay using an ecocritical framework is LoboJansson´s Master´s thesis “Lord of the Rings, Lord of Nature: A PostcolonialEcocritical Study of J.R.R Tolkien´s The Lord of the Rings and Its Implications in the EFL Classroom.”. One suggestion for further research in the thesis is to apply an ecocritical framework to other books by Tolkien, such as Silmarillion or The Hobbit(47-48). One aim of this essay is therefore to answer the question whether the environmental descriptions in The Hobbit can indicate the environmental concerns described in Lobo Jansson´s study.

This thesis investigates corporate environmental discourse by focusing on the language of corporate environmental reports. It seeks to find out more about how corporations talk about environmental problems and how they position themselves in relation to these. The theoretical underpinning draws from ecolinguistics, specifically ecocritical discourse analysis, which critically evaluates discourses on the environment. Environmental reports published by the company Toyota are analysed through corpus linguistic techniques which help to identify the salient concepts and then further scrutinize their textual environment to uncover the dominant discourse patterns. The analysis reveals that the aim of the reports is portray Toyota as a company which actively protects the environment, which confirms the PR nature of the reports. As a result, negative information or data are downplayed and the company distances itself from these by obliterating its role (through devices such as nominalisation, passive voice or intransitive verbs). Ecological problems as such are addressed rarely and serve more as a background for the company to improve its public image. Denna studie utgår från två utvalda läromedel för undervisning inom hållbar utveckling.En uppgift från varje läromedel genomförs i en elevgrupp i årskurs 3. Syftet är att se vad som är viktigt för elevernas lärande samt vad som tilltalar och engagerar eleverna och om eleverna uppmärksammar uppgifternas syfte. En läromedelsanalys föregår genomförandet av uppgifterna. Denna omfattar aspekter kring språk, syfte, upplägg, undervisningsform, koppling till styrdokumenten, bildernas funktion samt vad som framkommer i en ekokritisk läsning av läromedlen. Elevernas reflektioner visar att de engageras av variation. Det framkommer även att repetition är en viktig del i elevernas lärande, samt att nivån på uppgifterna i förhållande till elevernas förförståelse är en väsentlig del att ta hänsyn till. Elevernas reflektioner och resultatet av läromedelsanalysen ställs mot forskning om hållbar utveckling i undervisning, undervisning utifrån olika texttyper och forskning om inkludering i läromedel. Resultatet diskuteras även utifrån det sociokulturella perspektivet. I studien framkommer det att valet av läromedel är viktigt för att eleverna ska ges möjlighet att utveckla kunskaper men även utveckla en kritisk analytisk förmåga. Studien visar att båda läromedlen är relevanta att använda i skolan men att de behöver kompletteras med andra typer av uppgifter för att ge eleverna bästa möjliga förutsättningar för att utveckla kunskaper inom hållbar utveckling.
