Education-Modern Guns : A qualitative study about role of educational processes on peace consolidation in BiH / Education-Modern Guns : A qualitative study about role of educational processes on peace consolidation in BiH

Muminovic, Fata January 2019 (has links)
This research examines the role of five educational processes; curriculum, language, religion, culture, history, and geography and teachers, teacher education and teaching methods, on the perception of students of other constitutive people in Bosnia and Herzegovina and if it might have an impact on the longevity of the peace within the state. The importance of this research lays in the fact that BiH has experienced ethnic conflict in recent history which affected education and created ethnic division in the educational system. The aim of this research is to look at if the current educational system in BiH works on mending social cleavages that erupted as an aftermath of the war. By doing abductive qualitative field study and focusing on the educational system known as “two schools under one roof” findings show that all of the five previously mentioned processes carry to bigger or smaller extent threat and risk for social cohesion and peace in the country. Pupils are exposed to teachings filled with bias and prejudice and teachings that emphasize differences between different groups while ignoring similarities that could bring them together. Findings also suggest that the problem of the segregated educational system in BiH will most likely not end in the foreseeable future due to lack of will from teachers, parents, pupils and decision-makers.

In depth face-to-face interviews were conducted with two lesbian parents currently raising three children. After data collection and analysis, the researcher constructed six findings based on the primary research questions. The study determined that regardless of minor discrimination in the systems, the parents and their children have positive experiences in their family, social, and educational systems. The parents also offered ideas about political and social changes that would improve their lives. Overall, the study determined that regardless of negative experiences based on their sexual orientation, the parents believe that all members of the family are happy and proud of their family unit. / School of Education / Community Counseling / MS / Thesis

Att undervisa elever med en religiös tro : En intervjustudie med gymnasielärare i den sekulära och mångkulturella skolan

Kriisa, Elaine January 2012 (has links)
The Swedish state and educational system are secular, so to say they do not depend on the former protestant state church anymore. Many people in Sweden are also secular. Even so, in school teachers meet students with a religious faith. The purpose of this study is to examine how teachers without a religious belonging experience the encounter with religious students. The method used was semistructured interviews with five teachers in a upper secondary school in a multicultural suburb of Stockholm. In this school, most students have a religious faith and the majority are Muslims or Christians. The prevalent discourses about religion and secularism in Sweden today are found through the teachers speech about the teachers and the students living in two different worlds. The dichotomy is more clearly expressed by the less religious teachers. The meaning of the double assignment of the curriculum is interpreted differently by the different teachers and the teachers have experienced conflicts of values regarding the following subjects: freedom of speech, sexuality (including homosexuality and gender equality), antisemitism and intolerance. The teachers use discussions and debates to handle the conflicts. In their statements, the teachers place the conflicts of value in a public sphere, not in an individual, which means they do not hesitate to act against unscientific approaches and/or antidemocratic views. Thus, the conflicts of values can be used as tools to foster democracy, tolerance and human rights. The teachers believe that they have the assignment to change the students religiously anchored values, but not to influence them to become secular.

Příprava fyzikálního praktika s využitím edukačního systému PASCO / Physical laboratory exercise preparing by using of educational system PASCO

DVOŘÁK, Jiří January 2013 (has links)
The thesis is the preparation of practice of mechanics in physics lessons with the use of the educational system Pasco. At the beginning, there is a concise introduction with the educational systems; specifically the description of the Pasco system and description of individual sensors from basic set of sensors for physics, some of them are used in the implementation of laboratory tasks. This part also includes the Control software, Pasco DataStudio and the possibilities of further processing of the values using a spreadsheet. Next part of thesis deals with measurement methods, measurement errors and processing of measurement results in measurement protocol. The following section contains a design of four tasks of mechanics. Each task contains an introductory section, the design of laboratory workout, the process of construction measuring system, assignment, worksheet and procedure for resolving task. The first two tasks are focused on friction, the third task deals with the movement of the point on the circle and the last, the fourth role is focused on the motion of a body on an inclined plane. As part of the Annex are elaborated protocols of individual measurements and photographic documentation of the production process of measuring sets. In the conclusion there are evaluated results of individual measurements, which are based on practical verification in physics lessons at Secondary Technical School of Mechanical and Civil Engineering in Tabor.

Occupational stress amongst lecturers with specific reference to a further education and training college in the Western Cape

Engle, Marshall January 2012 (has links)
Magister Commercii (Industrial Psychology) - MCom(IPS) / Research on stress has indicated that people in the helping professions dealing with people, especially those in the teaching profession, are particularly prone to emotional distress. However, information regarding the stress-related emotions specifically experienced by academic lecturers at institutions of Further Education and Training is not abundant. University teaching has traditionally been conceived of as a relatively stress-free occupation, or at least has been seen in this way by outsiders. Nevertheless, there is overwhelming evidence attesting to the fact that academia is a highly stressful occupation. The contemporary academic context in South Africa is characterised by changes such as the incorporation of colleges and the merging of universities and technikons, now referred to as universities of technology. Consequences such as financial predicaments, insecurity of employees, short-term contract positions, fewer fringe benefits, increasing emotional disturbance and stress, are unavoidable. Although they are not highly paid in comparison to professionals in the commercial sector, academics have been envied for their tenure, light workloads, flexibility and freedom to pursue their own research.Concerns about academic stress have been articulated over the past three decades. Research conducted in the United Kingdom (UK), United States of America (USA), Australia and New Zealand has identified several key stressors commonly associated with stress among academic staff. These include work overload, time constraints, lack of promotion opportunities, inadequate recognition, inadequate salary, changing job role, inadequate management and/or participation in management, inadequate resources and funding and student interactions. Other sources of stress, such as high self-expectations, poor interactions with colleagues, inequality in the system and lack of regular performance feedback have been highlighted in a few studies. Although some studies found high levels of stress relating to work relationships, control, resources and communication and job insecurity, excessive overload and work-life imbalance are among the most frequently reported stressors by academics. Since academics do not represent an homogeneous group of professionals, it is considered inappropriate to examine academic stress without taking all their professional and personal characteristics into account. Research has shown that workload, inadequate salaries and a lack of public recognition were perceived as more significant sources of pressure by men than by women, whilst job insecurity, isolation from colleagues, a lack of institutional recognition of worth and work politics were more salient for women. Since academia is still largely a male dominated occupation, female academics may experience more stressors and strains than their male counterparts due to a lack of role models, less socialisation from women from their own rank, gender stereotypes and increased role conflict as they endeavour to balance roles at work and at home. Researchers have also noted the importance of age-based differences, and conventionally believe that stress universally declines with chronological age.Data was collected through a biographical questionnaire and the Experience of Work and Life Circumstances Questionnaire (WLQ). A convenience sample of lecturers in an FET College (n=150) completed the questionnaires, which were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 20. Statistical procedures for data analysis include: T-Test, Multiple Regression Analysis and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).The results in the current research reveal that there are statistically significant differences in stress levels of academic staff at the FET college based on gender, age, race, marital status and tenure. Based on the responses obtained, 35.33% of the variance in total stress could be explained by Organisational functioning, Task aspects, Salary, benefits and personnel policies, Extra-organisational factors and Career aspects, and suggest that other unexplored variables could explain the variance in stress levels experienced by academics at the FET college.
