Bui-Quy, Sara, Dahlberg, Johanna January 2009 (has links)

Background: Heart failure is a complex condition which means that the hearts capacity topump blood is reduced. The aim of this study was to investigate how patients with heartfailure considered their knowledge and the information they received about their disease andself-care.Method: Patients suffering from heart failure, hospitalized at section 30 E (n=13), andpatients visiting the nurse led heart failure clinic (n=4) at Akademiska sjukhuset in Uppsala, were requested to participate in the study. The patients answered questions about knowledgeand information concerning self-care and their disease. Data were analyzed using SPSS 15.0.Results: The patients valued their knowledge about the disease as lower than their knowledgeabout self-care. The study showed that all the patients found the information they hadreceived about their self-care better than the information they had received about theirdisease. The results also showed that the better the patients considered the information abouttheir disease the better they had interpreted the knowledge about their disease. Conclusion: The patients valued their knowledge and the information the received about selfcarehigher than about the disease. This indicates that is it easier to understand the self-care. Itis hard to generalize the conclusion due to the number of participating patients in the studywas small (n=17).
/

Datsishin, Olga, Ydal, Anna January 2007 (has links)

Background: There are many possible reasons why a patient gets a stoma and in every case it’s of importance for the nurse to adjust nursing care, information and patient education from individual presuppositions. Problem: Patient education regarding stoma self-care is an important part of the nurse’s work within stoma care. The patient is depending on the guidance of the nurse and therefore it is relevant to illuminate the importance of education regarding gaining ability to perform self-care.

Aim: To illuminate factors that enable the patient’s learning and ability of managing stoma self-care.

Method: A literature review was conducted where scientific articles were viewed and presented according to guidelines for academic work.

Result/Diskussion: Contributions from both nurse and patient are needed to achieve good education and increased self-care ability. Several factors regarding patient education emerged. These factors had both positive and negative influence on learning and independence concerning self-care. Shortcomings can be found regarding patient education for stoma patients and it’s not every time that the nurse responds to the patients need for information.

Conclusion: Factors with the nurse that affect education: the nurse’s competence – practical and theoretical knowledge, holistic view, promotion of patient participation and support, consideration and respect, insight in appropriate occasion for education and understanding of the importance of preoperative teaching. Factors with the patient that affect self-care and learning ability: Self-care ability – social factors, physical environment, continuity in the encounter with the nurse. Learning ability – readiness to learn and active or passive knowledge seeking.

Implikation: There is a great need of further research regarding self-care and patient education for stoma patients. Nurses need more education regarding this subject during his/her professional training.

Förmaksflimmer : Hur påverkas livskvaliteten?

Sundström, Åse, Skarpnord, Åsa, Svensson, Ulrika January 2013 (has links)
