BENESSERE FINANZIARIO DEI GIOVANI ADULTI: QUALI METODOLOGIE DI RICERCA E TECNICHE STATISTICHE SONO NECESSARIE? / EMERGING ADULTS' FINANCIAL WELL-BEING: WHAT RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES AND STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES ARE NEEDED?

SORGENTE, ANGELA 23 February 2018 (has links)
The general aim of this research work is to enrich the literature on emerging adults’ financial well-being with research methodologies and statistical techniques never previously applied in this research field. Specifically, the first chapter of this thesis concerns the scoping methodology, a knowledge synthesis methodology that I adopted to identify the emerging adults’ financial well-being definition, components, predictors and outcomes. The second chapter consists in the application of a new statistical technique, Latent Transition Analysis, that I used to identify subgroups of emerging adults homogeneous in their configuration of adult social markers already reached and to investigate the relation between these emerging adults’ subgroups and their financial well-being. The third chapter describes a three-step methodology to develop and validate new measurement instruments, based on the contemporary view of validity proposed in the last fifty years. This three-step procedure was here applied to develop and validate a new instrument measuring subjective financial well-being for an emerging adult target population. Finally, the fourth chapter concerns the multiple informant methodology that I applied to collect information about family financial socialization and its impact on the child’s financial well-being from mother, father and the emerging adult child.

Perceptions and Experiences of Intimate Partner Violence Among Hispanic College Students

Vera, Racquel 18 December 2013 (has links)
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is recognized as a serious, growing problem on college campuses. IPV rates among college students exceed estimates reported for the general population. Few studies have examined the impact of IPV among the Hispanic college student (HCS) population or explored how HCSs perceive and experience IPV. Focusing on young adults (ages 18 to 25 years), this mixed methods study was designed to explore the perceptions and experiences of IPV focusing on levels of victimization and perpetration in relation to gender role attitudes and beliefs, exposure to parental IPV, acculturation, and religiosity. A sample of 120 HCSs was recruited from two south Florida universities. A subsample of 20 participants was randomly selected to provide qualitative responses. All participants completed a series of questionnaires including a demographic survey, the FPB, CTS2-CA, SASH, ERS and CTS2. Bivariate correlational techniques and multiple regressions were used to analyze data. Marked discrepancy between participants’ perceived experience of IPV (N = 120) and their CTS2 responses (n = 116, 96.7%). Only 5% of the participants saw themselves as victims or perpetrators of IPV, yet 66% were victims or 67% were perpetrators of verbal aggression; and 31% were victims or 32.5% were perpetrators of sexual coercion based on their CTS2 scores. Qualitative responses elicited from the subsample of 20 students provided some insight regarding this disparity. There was rejection of traditional stratified gender roles. Few participants indicated that they were religious (20.8%, n = 25). Evidence for the theory of intergenerational transmission of violence was noted. Recall of parental IPV was a significant predictor of level of IPV victimization (β = 0.177, SE = 0.85, p = 0.041). Nursing and social service providers must be cognizant that contributing factors to either victimization and/or perpetration of IPV among college students must be addressed first (i.e., perceptions of IPV), both in acute (i.e., emergency department) and community (i.e., college and university) settings for optimum intervention outcome.

Pelissier, Albane 06 1900 (has links)
The mental health of adolescents and emerging adults is an issue of global concern. To promote the positive development and recovery of young people living with mental disorders, self-esteem is a prime target. Rehabilitation art-based interventions focused on improving self-esteem have been conducted in recent decades and have shown promising results. Certain individual factors, such as the severity of mental disorders, seem to be able to affect the effectiveness of interventions. It is therefore important to study them more specifically. This dissertation is part of a larger ongoing multicenter evaluation project of Espace Transition (ET) programs led by researchers from the CHU Ste-Justine. We analyzed the data of 140 young people with an average age of 16 and presenting a mental disorder. The positive self-esteem and negative self-esteem of the participants were measured before and after participation in the program, as well as their level of functional impairment related to mental disorders before the beginning of the program. Moderation analyzes (Mixed ANCOVAs) were conducted to observe whether the changes are different depending on the severity of this functional impairment. Age, gender, and program appreciation index were included in the analyses. According to the results observed, it appears that participation in the program is associated with a significant change in the self-esteem of some young people, more particularly among those reporting a more severe level of functional impairment. These young people had higher positive self-esteem and lower negative self-esteem after the program than before. Despite their limitations, these results suggest that ET programs could play a role in the recovery and positive development of young people who are more affected by their mental disorders. They also highlight the importance of paying more attention to individual factors that can vary the effectiveness of interventions.

An exploration of the factors that influence theological students in the area of moral development and decision-making in the charismatic tradition

Thomas, Dawie 22 July 2015 (has links)
Moral formation is a crucial aspect of the training that young Christian leaders have to be exposed to during their education. A holistic focus was adopted to analyse the nuances of the moral self and give moral formation the focus it requires. Three major areas of the moral self namely knowledge, emotion and socialization have been investigated. The study was exploratory in nature and made use of a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews. The data was analysed with a constructivist framework using content analysis. Findings mainly related to the three areas under focus with the impact of emotions being the most prominent. The influence of the Holy Spirit was also a key finding as charismatic emerging adults depended on his guidance during moral decision making. The data also reflected the significant interaction and overlap of the three areas exercising an influence on emerging adults’ moral decision making. / Practical Theology / M.Th. (Practical Theology)
