Vulnérabilité alimentaire et trajectoires de sécurisation des moyens d’existence à Hanoi : une lecture des pratiques quotidiennes dans une métropole émergente / Food vulnerability and livelihoods securitization process in Hanoi : investigating everyday practices in an emerging metropolis

Pulliat, Gwenn 05 December 2013 (has links)
With a focus on underpriviledged urban dwellers’ everyday practices in Hanoi, this study aims to show the construction of individual and household food insecurity in a city where living standards have dramatically improved over the last three decades. It demonstrates that food budget plays a key role in livelihoods management in an unstable context, by serving as a tool for underprivileged people to adjust to shocks. Therefore, individuals’ food vulnerability should be understood as a long-term livelihoods securitization process. This study shows that livelihoods securitization is based on sustaining social networks. These networks are constantly reactivated by an ongoing circulation of money and goods, and they are the basis of daily mutual assistance at the ward scale. This reveals a strong relationship between lived space and solidarity networks in which risks are mutualized. The analysis of people’s working trajectories shows a high capacity for adaptation, with individuals rearranging their livelihoods (jobs, food production for family’s consumption, rental income, etc.) according to their need and the changes in their environment. Nevertheless, in the context of a metropolizing city, the people’s capacities to take advantage of this development varies greatly. This contrast is reinforced by the fact that resources developments (economic, social, spatial) have a cumulative effect. As a consequence, inequalities are deepened in Hanoi, both at the city scale and wards scale.Such inequalities can be seen in the increasing differences between food practices and consumption patterns among urban dwellers. Products as well as their origines get more diverse, creating new safety concerns ; purchasing places diverge more and more between the rich and the poor ; and foodborne diseases appear while malnutrition issues remain. All along the food supply chain, current shifts illustrate a process that can be called food emergence. Finally, this study reveals that it is primarily non-food phenomenons that result in food insecurity ; it widens the food security framework. In this way, the analysis of urban dwellers’ daily practices provides an illustration of the ongoing urban emergence process of Vietnamese capital.

Préparation et modification de carbones activés pour l'adsorption de polluants organiques émergents : molécules pharmaceutiques et liquides ioniques / Preparation and modification of activated carbons for adsorption of organic pollutants emerging : pharmaceutical molecules and ionic liquids

Guedidi, Hanen 16 February 2015 (has links)
In this work, two activated carbons (granular AC and fabric T0) were modified either by chemical treatment (H2O2, NaOCl and thermal treatment under N2) or by ultrasonic irradiation at 20 kHz or 500 kHz in different solvents (UHQ water, H2O2 and HCOOH). The raw and modified materials were characterized by different methods. We studied the ibuprofen (IBP) adsorption at different pH and temperatures. The adsorption of IBP by (AC or T0) was an endothermic process at pH 3. Oxidation with NaOCl creates phenol groups that led to a decrease of the adsorption uptake while oxidation by H2O2 increases the carbonyl group content and carboxyl that induce an increase in the adsorption of IBP. The ultrasonic treatment of AC increases the adsorption capacity of ibuprofen in comparison with the raw AC. The adsorption of the two ionic liquids (LI1 : the 4(tert-butyl)-1propylpyridinium bromide and LI2 : 4(tert-butyl)-1(2-carboxy-ethyl)pyridinium bromide ) onto T0 was found much faster than the adsorption kinetic of IBP at pH 7.5. The competitive adsorption of mixture of IBP and the two ionic liquids showed that IBP is the most adsorbed by T0.

Finding early signals of emerging trends in text through topic modeling and anomaly detection

Redyuk, Sergey January 2018 (has links)
Trend prediction has become an extremely popular practice in many industrial sectors and academia. It is beneficial for strategic planning and decision making, and facilitates exploring new research directions that are not yet matured. To anticipate future trends in academic environment, a researcher needs to analyze an extensive amount of literature and scientific publications, and gain expertise in the particular research domain. This approach is time-consuming and extremely complicated due to abundance of data and its diversity. Modern machine learning tools, on the other hand, are capable of processing tremendous volumes of data, reaching the real-time human-level performance for various applications. Achieving high performance in unsupervised prediction of emerging trends in text can indicate promising directions for future research and potentially lead to breakthrough discoveries in any field of science. This thesis addresses the problem of emerging trend prediction in text in two main steps: it utilizes HDP topic model to represent latent topic space of a given temporal collection of documents, DBSCAN clustering algorithm to detect groups with high-density regions in the document space potentially leading to emerging trends, and applies KLdivergence in order to capture deviating text which might indicate birth of a new not-yet-seen phenomenon. In order to empirically evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed framework and estimate its predictive capability, both synthetically generated corpora and real-world text collections from arXiv.org, an open-access electronic archive of scientific publications (category: Computer Science), and NIPS publications are used. For synthetic data, a text generator is designed which provides ground truth to evaluate the performance of anomaly detection algorithms. This work contributes to the body of knowledge in the area of emerging trend prediction in several ways. First of all, the method of incorporating topic modeling and anomaly detection algorithms for emerging trend prediction is a novel approach and highlights new perspectives in the subject area. Secondly, the three-level word-document-topic topology of anomalies is formalized in order to detect anomalies in temporal text collections which might lead to emerging trends. Finally, a framework for unsupervised detection of early signals of emerging trends in text is designed. The framework captures new vocabulary, documents with deviating word/topic distribution, and drifts in latent topic space as three main indicators of a novel phenomenon to occur, in accordance with the three-level topology of anomalies. The framework is not limited by particular sources of data and can be applied to any temporal text collections in combination with any online methods for soft clustering.

Silva, Aline Clissiane Ferreira da January 2017 (has links)
According to music education literature, teaching practice, as a component of teacher training, is a privileged activity to mobilize and articulate different types of knowledge, to develop experiential knowledge, to integrate theory and practice and to approach educational realities in order to better understand them and acting on them. Teaching practice allows student teachers to incorporate professional skills and gestures towards the development of a professionality. Based on this perspective, this dissertation aimed at to investigate signs of the emergence of the professionality of student teachers enrolled in a bachelor degree program in music education. More specifically, it aimed at to identify, in the conceptions and actions of these student teachers, signs of recognition of the teaching function; signs of recognition of a specific knowledge of the profession; signs of decision-making and autonomy in the performance of the teaching function; and signs of a sense of belonging to a collective body that practices a profession. The concept of emergent professionality, by Anne Jorro, and the descriptors of teaching professionality, presented by Maria do Céu Roldão, constituted the study´s theoretical framework. A qualitative case study was carried out, with data being collected through observations, semi-structured interviews and analysis of documents. The results indicate that the teaching practice may involve, besides types of knowledge, other aspects that characterize the music teacher profession. Through seeking to deepen the understanding of the emergency process of the professionality that happens during the teaching practice, this research characterizes, at least partially, how the music student teacher comes close to the profession for which he/she is being trained. The results also indicate some conditions that can be offered to student teachers that can contribute to the emergence of the professionality.

Contribution to the study of cutaneous leishmaniasis due Leishmania killicki in an emergent focus in Tunisia : Parasites, sandflies and reservoirs.

Jaouadi, Kaouthier 14 June 2013 (has links)
Tunisia is an endemic country for leishmaniasis. In 1980, Rioux, Pratlong & Lanotte described from Tunisia a new species they called Leishmania (L.) killicki based on the typing of 30 strains isolated from an outbreak of cutaneous leishmaniasis occuring in the Tataouine area and exhibiting a zymodeme: MON-8. The vector and the reservoir if exixting were still uncknown. Human cases have been mentioned out of this area. Gafsa is a province were cutaneous leishmanaisis due to L. major is endemic. The recent identification of L. killicki as the causative agent of a cutaneous leishmaniasis occuring patients from Metlaoui incitated us to explore this focus. This is the aim of our Ph. D. thesis: identification of the Phlebotomine sand flies vector(s) and possible role of reservoirs using both parasitological, isoenzymatical and molecular approaches.Three main topics have been developed during this work:i) To characterize the Leishmania strains from cutaneous lesions obtained from patients from Gafsa area using molecular tools. We updated epidemiological, spatial and clinical data related to L. killicki leishmaniasis in Tunisia.ii) To carry out entomological studies:-to do sand flies inventories in two distinct areas,-to study the molecular intraspecific variablility in Phlebotomus sergenti and Sergentomyia. minuta by comparison of Tunisian specimens with other ones coming from several countries,-to show the probable role of P. sergenti in the transmission of L. killicki,-to study blood meal origin of engorged females: many Phlebotomus are opportunistic species and Sergentomyia minuta is not exclusively herpetophilic.iii) Lastly, we carried out a study on the Leishmania infection on wild and urban rodents in Metlaoui and around this city. The isoenzymatic and molecular typing show the role of Ctenodactylus gondii in the cycle of L. killicki in Tunisia.

Orientations stratégiques complémentaires et microentreprises familiales dans une économie émergente / Complementary Strategic Orientations and Family Owned Micro-enterprises in an Emerging Economy

Tsering, Chemi 29 November 2017 (has links)
This dissertation endeavors to understand the impact of multiple strategic orientations on the performance of the micro family business in developing economy settings in three distinct phases. First, we raised a question whether family micro-entrepreneurs gain performance benefits by developing simultaneously high levels of entrepreneurial-oriented and market-oriented activities. We also investigated whether these complementary strategic orientations on performance are rewarded by cultivating high levels of firm social capital in the form of business and social network ties. In addition, we raised a question how family fits together in the context of multiple strategic orientations to achieve superior performance. The initial study, therefore, yielded a rich research theme related to family business in the context of institutionally constrained environment. We have shown that micro family businesses do maximize their business performance by investing on higher levels of entrepreneurial and market orientation. Furthermore, firm socialization process with their external business entities increase the performance benefits by combined effects of entrepreneurial and market orientations in an emerging market setting. Contrary to conventional wisdom, the study revealed that business profitability increases when both orientations are high but only when family involvement is low. This result yielded important insights into the role of family influence in shaping firm strategic behaviors to achieve better performance. The subsequent study, therefore, reviews and revealed the dark and bright side of the family in combination with entrepreneurial and market orientation behaviors and its consequent impact on performance. The final quantitative study contradicts previous research finding revealing the importance of family-based capabilities in supporting risk-taking behaviors to increase family wealth in an emerging market setting.

Modélisation de données de surveillance épidémiologique de la faune sauvage en vue de la détection de problèmes sanitaires inhabituels / Modelling of epidemiological surveillance data from wildlife for the detection of unusual health events

Petit, Eva 09 February 2011 (has links)
Recent studies have shown that amongst emerging infectious disease events in humans, about 40% were zoonoses linked to wildlife. Disease surveillance of wildlife should help to improve health protection of these animals and also of domestic animals and humans that are exposed to these pathogenic agents. Our aim was to develop tools capable of detecting unusual disease events in free ranging wildlife, by adopting a syndromic approach, as it is used for human health surveillance, with pathological profiles as early unspecific health indicators. We used the information registered by a national network monitoring causes of death in wildlife in France since 1986, called SAGIR. More than 50.000 cases of mortality in wildlife were recorded up to 2007, representing 244 species of terrestrial mammals and birds, and were attributed to 220 different causes of death. The network was first evaluated for its capacity to detect early unusual events. Syndromic classes were then defined by a statistical typology of the lesions observed on the carcasses. Syndrome time series were analyzed, using two complimentary methods of detection, one robust detection algorithm developed by Farrington and another generalized linear model with periodic terms. Historical trends of occurrence of these syndromes and greater-than-expected counts (signals) were identified. Reporting of unusual mortality events in the network bulletin was used to interpret these signals. The study analyses the relevance of the use of syndromic surveillance on this type of data and gives elements for future improvements.

Salvo, Mauro January 2011 (has links)
The main objective of this thesis is to examine whether and how emerging economies have gained power in the international political scene, by increasing their economic power resources. As the focus of the study was directed towards the development of the economic power of emerging economies and its implications for the system of nations, greater attention was given to the movements of international political economy, which are not restricted to international financial organizations. We tried to show that the power game occurs, mainly, among National States. This work analyzed the functioning of the contemporary international system by addressing it through the principal theories of international relations. The theme in focus was the distribution of economic power in the international political scenario. The assumption made was that some emerging countries are increasing their global power and thus impacted the organization of the system and international economic relations. Chapter 2 argues that the economic power may currently be considered the main source of power in view of the topics on international relations agenda. It is argued that the U.S. is not even the most homogenous nation which ensures the stability of the system, this is still the system created by the Americans and there is no evidence that there is any nation able to take the leadership and implement a different system. Finally It’s argued that we live in an international hybrid system, which is sometimes anarchic, sometimes it is cooperative or coordinated depending on the international agenda. Chapter 3 deals with the Bretton Woods institutions and examines their evolution and role of the currency standard. Reinforces the analysis of the previous chapter as to the absence of a movement to break or even replacement of the U.S. currency as a benchmark for international transactions including the assumption of adopting a unit of account based on a basket of currencies. The current international monetary system in which oil exporters and China support the U.S. dollar as reference currency and the level of consumption of Americans is proof of the difficulties of institutionalizing a new order. Chapter 4 distinguished economic concepts to provide the improvement well-being of the population and how those statistics are used to measure power in international economic relations. Based on the foregoing it is considered that emerging economies are increasing their sources of economic power and begin to influence decisions which for decades limited to the G-7 and the evidence for this is the formation of G-20, participation in the Group Stability Financial BIS and increasing their weight in votes in the IMF.
