Strategies for Reducing Voluntary Employee Turnover in Public Schools

Proctor-Matos, Peggy Teresa 01 January 2019 (has links)
The oversight of systematic approaches to reducing voluntary employee turnover decreases educational institutions’ budgets and performance. In the United States, public schools spend over $2.22 billion annually in voluntary employee turnover costs. The purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore strategies public school leaders use to reduce voluntary employee turnover. The population consisted of 3 leaders from 1 public school located in Georgia, with successful experience reducing voluntary employee turnover. The conceptual framework for this study was grounded in Vroom’s expectancy theory. The data collection process included semistructured interviews and organizational documents and artifacts. Data were analyzed using a thematic analysis. Three themes emerged from the data collected: building a collaborative and supportive work environment, creating work motivation, and implementing incentives, rewards, and professional development. The implications for positive social change include the potential to reduce the local government’s expenditures associated with the replacement of employees and to increase resources for supporting social initiatives and more effective instruction for students in the community.

Time to Involve : Employee Involvement in CSR Activities - A Qualitative Study Investigating Contributors to Involvement in CSR among Employees

Brengesjö, Ellen, Eskengren, Eveline January 2020 (has links)
In recent years, the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been widely studied. Scholars agree that employee involvement is crucial for successful implementation of CSR, however complexities exist as employee involvement in CSR is not always evident in organisations. While existing literature commonly address the importance of employee involvement, it seldomly devote attention to what factors affect this involvement and as such, does not focus of why certain factors are brought up. Moreover, as employees are key stakeholders in organisations, there is a need of including their voice to contribute with valuable insights to the field. The purpose of this study is first to examine what factors contribute to employee involvement in CSR activities, followed by the second aim of understanding why these factors are considered important with regard to employee involvement. As the nature of the study is qualitative, an interpretivist design is applied, with four companies acting as foundation for data. Primary data is collected through semi-structured interviews with the use of open-ended questions. A thematic approach is applied for analysing data. The empirical findings reveal five factors contributing to employee involvement in CSR and why those factors are important. These are (1) Coordination, as it helps provide clear guidelines anchored in deeper purposes, (2) Conditions, since varying tools enable those guidelines to be implemented, (3) Communication, because it allows employees to learn and be updated regarding CSR, (4) Concretisation of actions, by making CSR visible and easier to apply, and finally, (5) Community, since it fosters the mindset of shared responsibility and solidarity. These findings are visually presented in Figure 2 - The 5C-Model for Employee Involvement in CSR.

Synen på medarbetarskap : En studie av medarbetare och skolledares syn på medarbetarskap inom den kommunala gymnasieskolan.

Lindblom, Karin, Lindgren Meng, Jessica January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to visualize and develop knowledge about the view on employeeship within the municipal upper secondary school. In addition, we intend to gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of employeeship in upper secondary school from the perspective of both employees and the principals. We also hope that this study can contribute to general knowledge in this area which is considered very important for school development. The study is based on a hermeneutic approach with a phenomenological perspective in which the parts of what is referred to as a governmental partnership creates a holistic picture of employeeship. The study's empirical data is based on semi-structured interviews with interview guides created based on the research questions: How can one see employeeship in the municipal upper secondary school? What are coworkers’ and principals’ view on employeeship? In the deductive part of the process, the informants' responses were categorized based on completed themes in the Wheel of Employeeship (Hällsten & Tengblad, 2006) and then analyzed. The study's conclusion is that parts of the employeeship as defined in the Wheel of Employeeship is fulfilled, however, there are still important parts missing that need further research.

Effective Strategies Employed by Retail Store Leaders to Reduce Employee Turnover

Beato, Alexandro 01 January 2017 (has links)
Employee turnover affects retail organizations in the form of lower productivity, decreased profitability, and reduced sustainability. In 2014, organizations lost over $11 billion in tangible and intangible assets as the result of employee turnover. High employee turnover rates have an adverse effect on productivity, which lead to unsustainable business practices. The number of retail employees who quit their jobs each month increased from 432,000 in December 2016 to 464,000 in January 2017, which indicates that some managers lack strategies to reduce employee turnover. Using the transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this single case study was to explore effective strategies used by retail store managers from El Paso, Texas to decrease employee turnover. Participants were purposefully selected because of their experience implementing effective employee turnover reduction strategies; they reduced employee turnover from 24% in 2012 to 15% in 2016. Data were collected via face-to-face semistructured interviews with 10 managers and the review of organizational documents on employee turnover. Data were analyzed using inductive coding of phrases, word frequency searches, and theme interpretation. Three themes emerged: supportive leadership reduced employee turnover, managing personnel scheduling decreased employee turnover, and competitive compensation reduced employee turnover. Reducing employee turnover contributes to social change by providing retail store managers with valuable insight that can lead to enhanced sustainability, improved organizational growth, and increased profitability, which might promote prosperity for local families and the community.

Relationship between Employee Development, Employee Burnout, and Employee Turnover Intentions

Hall, Marvin D. 01 January 2019 (has links)
Employee turnover is a concern for the highway maintenance leaders in the construction industry because employees with turnover intentions may exhibit decreased commitment and increased cynicism towards the organization, which may affect business profits. The purpose of this correlational study was to examine the relationship between employee development, employee burnout, and employee turnover intentions in highway maintenance organizations in the United States. Hobfoll's conservation of resources theory was the framework for this study. A convenience sampling of participants, which included a target audience who accessed the paper-based surveys from 6 field offices and the central office building within the northwestern region of Pennsylvania, returned 68 useable surveys for a response rate of approximately 33%. The data from the 68 participants were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. The population for the study consisted of supervisors, foremen, executive staff, and full-time management personnel. Results of the multiple linear regression analysis indicated a statistically significant relationship between employee development and employee turnover intentions (p < 0.05, β = 0.360) and between employee burnout and employee turnover intentions (p < 0.05, β = 0.512). The results of this study may contribute to positive social change by reducing employee turnover in the construction industry, keeping skilled employees within local communities, and helping employees accomplish career goals while increasing economic value. Highway maintenance leaders could use the money saved from turnover to invest in employee development and employee wellness programs.
