Experimentální stanovení prokalitelnosti hliníkových slitin / Hardenability of aluminium alloys and its experimental determinationWeiss, Andrej January 2017 (has links)
The Diploma thesis deals with the verification of Jominy end-quench test when analysis of hardenability of aluminium alloys is considered. The problem was solved experimentally, by developing end-quench curves of selected grades of aluminium alloys. Degree of hardenability of alloy is hardness after complete strengthening heat treatment. Samples of aluminium alloys commonly used for aircraft structures were prepared and then subjected to end-quench tests in various quenchants. On the basis of performed experiments, suitability of Jominy end-quench test for comparison of hardenability of alloys was found. Part of the thesis deals with the creation of equivalent cooling rate diagrams using the developed end-quench curves.

Understanding the Role of the Receptor for Advanced Glycation End-Products (Rage) in Pancreatic CancerSwami, Priyanka January 2019 (has links)
Expression of the Receptor for Advanced Glycation End Products (RAGE) and is upregulated in a several cancers. Based on published studies, we hypothesized that RAGE, when overexpressed in pancreatic cancer cells, will promote cell proliferation and migration. To study the role of RAGE in pancreatic cancer, we selected the human pancreatic cancer cell-line PANC-1, and stably transfected the cells with full length RAGE to generate model cell-lines that overexpress RAGE. We obtained two cell-lines PANC-1 FLR2 and PANC-1 FLR3 and examined the influence of RAGE on cellular properties. A significant increase in proliferation but a reduction in migratory abilities of PANC-1 FLR2 and PANC-1 FLR3 cells was observed. The increase in proliferation and reduction in migration was reverted upon knockdown of RAGE in PANC-1 FLR2 cells with siRNA specific for RAGE. The reduction in migration was supported by the reduced levels of vimentin and several integrins in RAGE transfected cells. Furthermore, we observed a downregulation in FAK, AKT, ERK1/2 and NF-κB activity.
Growing evidence supports that RAGE is essential for pancreatic cancer progression. It has also been shown that RAGE facilitates pancreatic tumor cell survival by enhancing autophagy and inhibiting apoptosis. The goal of our study was to determine the effect of RAGE inhibition during gemcitabine chemotherapy on the growth of pancreatic tumor. Hence, we investigated the effect of RAGE inhibitors and their combination with gemcitabine in an orthotopic mouse model of pancreatic cancer using mouse pancreatic cancer cell-line KPC 5508. We used two RAGE inhibitors, an anti-RAGE monoclonal antibody (IgG2A11) and a small molecule RAGE inhibitor (FPS-ZM1). We observed a significant reduction in tumor weights of the mice treated with the combination of IgG2A11 and gemcitabine as compared to gemcitabine alone treated mice. The reduction in tumor growth was accompanied with increase in p62 levels (marker of autophagy) and increase in levels of cleaved PARP (marker of apoptosis). We also observed reduction in HMGB1 and phosphorylation levels of ERK1/2 in tumors from the group treated with the combination as compared to the gemcitabine alone treated group. / North Dakota State University. The role of personal values in Millennial men’s perception of clothing store image and store choicesDiedericks, Lizette January 2019 (has links)
South African clothing retailers are currently struggling to obtain and retain market share as a result of the challenging economic climate, new international market entrants and changes in consumer behaviour (MarketLine, 2018). In particular, consumer behaviour relating to men’s clothing is changing and for the first time in decades, menswear is dominating the South African clothing retail industry (MarketLine, 2018; Hastreiter & Marchetti, 2016). A lucrative market segment is the Millennial generation, born between 1980 and 2000 (Cham, Ng, Lim & Cheng, 2018; Cho, 2017). Consequently, knowledge on the clothing consumer behaviour of specifically Millennial men is crucial and the topic is still under explored, resulting in a research gap, which inspired this study. The store image perceived by the consumer has a direct influence on store choice and is important for retailer success. Since personal values ultimately drive consumer decision-making, an understanding of the personal values that motivate store choice may assist clothing retailers with their positioning (store image) to obtain customer loyalty and a sustainable competitive advantage. Gutman (1982) means-end chain (MEC) theory explains that consumers make choices based on the product/store attributes that they perceive as ultimately assisting them in reaching the desirable end-state (personal value). An MEC is a hierarchical structure that consists of three main interconnected levels, namely, attributes (means), consequences and personal values (ends), which are organised according to the level of abstraction. This study applied the MEC as a theoretical framework for exploring and understanding the role of Millennial men’s personal values in their perception of store image and their store choice.
Laddering is a probing technique that is used specifically in MEC studies to uncover underlying motivations for behaviour. This technique can be used in qualitative studies (where it is referred to as soft laddering) and also in quantitative studies (where it is referred to as hard laddering). This exploratory mixed-method study started with an initial qualitative phase and the findings were subsequently used to develop the measuring instrument for the second quantitative phase. The second quantitative phase specifically used the Association Pattern Technique (APT), a hard laddering technique developed by Ter Hofstede, Audenaert, Steenkamp and Wedel (1998). Using a series of matrices, the APT reveals how consumers link desirable attributes, sought-after consequences and personal values. Using non-probability sampling methods (i.e. convenience-, snowball and quota sampling), 25 participants were recruited in the first phase and 408 workable questionnaires were obtained during the second phase. The personal in-depth interviews conducted during phase 1 used soft laddering and elicited the attributes and consequences that are pivotal in clothing store choice. Together with these attributes and consequences, the ten basic personal values of Schwartz (1992) and colleagues (2001; 2014) were used to develop the matrices for the measuring instrument used in phase 2. During this phase, data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire that was completed online.
The findings of this study indicate that hedonism ultimately motivates store image and store choice. Although the personal values of “self-direction”, “achievement” and “power” were also indicated as motivational drivers within different demographic subsets and different types of clothing retailers, “hedonism” unequivocally was found to be the most relevant personal value. It is therefore hedonism that influences Millennial men’s clothing store image and store choice. From this study it is recommended that clothing retailers in South Africa, targeting the Millennial male, pay specific attention to hedonism in terms of the design and implementation of their marketing strategies to give credit to consumers’ need to associate with a store image that projects a pleasurable experience. Clothing retailers that can successfully position themselves accordingly, will most likely be favoured. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2019. / Consumer Science / PhD / Unrestricted

SIMULATION ANALYSIS OF END-AROUND TAXIWAY OPERATIONSYilin Feng (9159608) 23 July 2020 (has links)
<p>Runway and taxiway configuration could affect airport capacity
and safety, and airline taxiing time and fuel consumption. In this study, a
discrete-event stochastic simulation model is created to explore the impact of
four different runway and taxiway choices on a fictional airport with parallel
runways that have End-Around Taxiways (EAT) at each end.
Scenario 1 represent the conventional runway and taxiway choices used in
parallel runway systems, while Scenarios 2, 3, and 4 mimic three new choices
that become possible because of the usage of the EAT. Three designed
experiments are used to explore the influence of the four scenarios in terms of
taxi time, fuel consumption, and number of runway crossings during high traffic
periods, as well as the ability to cope with increases in the load level. </p>
<p>Some main findings are: 1)
using the outboard runway to land and the EAT as the taxi-in path would yield
the shortest average taxi-out time, while the average taxi-in time is similar
or longer than that in the conventional choice; 2) if arrival aircraft are
allowed to land over an active EAT, using the outboard runway to take off and
the EAT as the taxi-out path would show advantages in both the average taxi-in
time and the average taxi-out time; 3) if the EAT is operated under current FAA
regulation, using the outboard runway to take off and the EAT as the taxi-out
path could still show advantages in the average taxi-in time, while the average
taxi-out time is the longest during high arrival period; 4) the results of the
average fuel consumption indicate similar trends with the results of the
average taxi time; 5) using the EATs could either eliminate the number of
runway crossings or reduce it significantly; 6) the taxi times with the use of
EATs are more stable against the increases in the load level in comparison with
the conventional choice.</p>
<p>Safety and human factor issues related to allowing arrival
aircraft to land over an active EAT are discussed, as well as some future
research topics. This study may encourage airport operators and researchers to
explore how to make full use of existing EATs. This study, along with future
cost-benefit analyses based on the results of this research, would be a
valuable reference for airports that consider constructing EATs in the future. </p>

Old Tool, New Function: Using LibGuides to Breathe New Life into the End-of-Semester ProjectCampbell, Kathy, Adebonojo, Leslie 01 January 2014 (has links)
In 2008, Sherrod Library purchased Springshare’s LibGuides to create research guides for the library’s homepage. We also created LibGuides for individual classes when we taught library instruction sessions.
Several of our professors worked closely with librarians to create the LibGuides for their classes, and those guides are heavily used. Inspired by this success, we looked for other ways to use LibGuides to connect with our faculty, students, and community. Our most creative use of LibGuides happened in 2013 when several librarians approached carefully-chosen faculty with an invitation to participate in a pilot project. We chose among the professors who routinely requested library instruction sessions; seemed to be open to trying new ways to engage their students; and whose classes were small and not writing intensive. These three professors were invited to a meeting where we offered them the opportunity to replace their traditional written paper with a LibGuide assignment. We explained that students will still have to do quality research to produce a good LibGuide and suggested that there are a number of benefits from replacing a written paper with a LibGuide assignment, including:
• the replacement of an assignment that students don’t look forward to writing and professors don’t look forward to grading with a more engaging assignment;
• the ability to engage students by assigning a robust research project using a flexible tool that is easy to use;
• the creation of an electronic resource that students can easily include in an electronic portfolio.
This presentation describes the pilot project.

Palliativ vård i hemmet : En litteraturstudie om vårdade personers erfarenheterAbdieva, Gulnoza, Fredmer, Daniela January 2022 (has links)
Bakground: Palliative care is based on the concept that a person at the end of life should still have agood life quality. The care received should also be based on the sick persons wishes and preferences. During palliative care the person cared for should be able to chose where they want to receive the care and a lot of people want to die at home. Aim: The aim of this study is to describe the experiences of people receiving palliative care at home. Method: This is a literature study with a qualitative approach that follows Polit and Beck's nine-stepmodel. Ten articles were identified and analyzed using a thematic analysis. Results: The results show two themes and four subtemes: Communication with subtemes Accessibility and Partnership. Well-being with subtemes Comprehensive care and Security & Insecurity. Conclusions: People who receive palliative care at home are in need of feeling safe and being seen asa whole person in nursing. It is important for the sick people to have a good relationship with their caregivers based on partnership and accessibility. Home care should be well-planned and organizedas poor communication can lead to insecure care.

This master thesis, which has been carried out at Expektra, has contributed to design, developmentand implementation of a web based interface for one of their products, Predict Demand. For theimplementation, the project has considered different methods to evaluate their prototype withfooting in human-computer interaction and interaction design. This is valuable when it comes to thedesign and further development process for general user interfaces. The project has also looked atdifferent tools and frameworks to make the implementation more efficient. The result of the design and implementation has at the end of the project been evaluated by two endusers from a reference customer for this service. Even though the number of responses was limitedand therefore of no statistical significance the answers can be analyzed and give input for furtherdevelopment of the interface. The answers from the questionnaire were positive of how the finished design turned out as well asall the different parts that were inquired about. When more customers have joined the service therecan be a new attempt with the questionnaire to be able to get a more comprehensive result. This master thesis has focused on the front-end part which means that no back-end relatedinformation will be covered. One of the early limitations that were decided was to only focus on thelatest version of the Chrome web browser.
