Fluxos de energia, CO2 e CH4 sobre a floresta em planície de inundação da Ilha do Bananal / Energy, CO2 and CH4 fluxes on the floodplain forest of Bananal Island

Gabriel Brito Costa 10 August 2015 (has links)
This thesis investigated the microclimate, CO2 and energy fluxes patterns at a forest in floodplain of Bananal Island, with emphasis on the seasonal flooding effects in atmospheric variables and ecosystem productivity, as well as estimates of evasive water CO2 and CH4 fluxes. To carry it out, micrometeorological eddy covariance technique was associated, vertical storage CO2 estimates and measured data in a micrometeorological tower from 2004 to 2014, as well as specific campaigns for evasive fluxes measures. Although there are welldefined seasonal cycles of precipitation, air temperature and humidity in the area controlled by the radiative offer, it does not directly explain the variations in evapotranspiration when seeking for explain it by the increase in energy availability. Partitioning of the available energy points to a latent heat flux domain compared to sensible heat flux during net radiation decay periods, showing a peculiar pattern not reported in the literature. The data air temperature, rainfall, eddy CO2 and energy fluxes (LE and H) showed a possible influence of droughts that occurred on the west side of the region, in this experimental site from the east. The years 2005 and 2010 were warmer, little rainy and drier than the other years of the data series, and in 2010 had the lowest net productivity of the dry season. The flood was shown to have an important role in CO2 streams, causing the gross productivity, ecosystem respiration and the net productivity decrease, adding to the effects expected by the radiative control. The net productivity responded to the effects of flooding weeks before this start in the tower, continuing its effects until a few weeks later, with decreasing productivity. Already ecosystem respiration and gross primary productivity proved to be more sensitive to early dry season, with an interruption in the decline attributed to flooding, probably due to favoring the decomposition of organic matter suspended in the water. The results of the carbon fluxes suggest a high CO2 assimilation by forest, which requires corroboration through biometric measurements and are not, however, ruled out the reliability of the results. The results of the campaign to evasive flux measurements showed that the river is a CO2 source to the atmosphere, and both the river and the vegetated surface act as a CH4 source to the atmosphere, with a greater contribution of the vegetated surface. Methane and carbon concentrations in the water were higher ace sampling the atmosphere, which was expected as existing studies in the literature.

An Energy Budget Analysis of Evapotranspiration from Saltcedar

Gay, L. W., Sammis, T. W., Ben-Asher, J. 01 May 1976 (has links)
From the Proceedings of the 1976 Meetings of the Arizona Section - American Water Resources Assn. and the Hydrology Section - Arizona Academy of Science - April 29-May 1, 1976, Tucson, Arizona / Energy budget evaluations of evapotranspiration from saltcedar were carried out on the flood plain of the Rio Grande River, near Bernardo, New Mexico. The site was adjacent to the Bureau of Reclamation's lysimeter study of water use by saltcedar. The energy budget for the cloudless day of June 14, 1975, revealed that energy gains from net radiation totaled 432 cal/cm² , while energy losses (in cal/cm2 ), were 14 to stored energy, 31 to convection, and 387 to evapotranspiration (ET). The energy loss to ET is equivalent to the latent energy contained in about 6.5 mm of water. The energy budget values are reasonable for a phreatophyte community in a semi-arid environment. The latent energy loss compares favorably with 401 cal/cm² measured by three lysimeters, although there were discrepancies in timing and amounts of loss among the individual lysimeters. The mean canopy diffusion resistance was 1.90 sec/cm over a 10-hour daytime period on June 14. The mean resistance was combined with vapor pressure deficit to predict lysimeter ET on three subsequent days. The agreement was within 12 percent, which suggests that diffusion resistance may be useful for simple ET predictions.

IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DE UM MODELO DE COLUNA SIMPLES PARA A CAMADA LIMITE ESTÁVEL UTILIZANDO DIFERENTES FORMULAÇÕES DE TURBULÊNCIA / IMPLEMENTATION OF A SINGLE COLUMN MODEL FOR THE STABLE BOUNDARY LAYER USING DIFFERENT TURBULENCE FORMULATIONS

Schmengler, Moacir 01 October 2012 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In this work a single column model is implemented, aiming primarily to simulate the Stable Boundary Layer (SBL). The model is composed of prognostic equations for the potential temperature, specific humidity and the wind components. A prognostic equation for the turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) is also used. The turbulent fluxes are approximated from diffusion coefficients that are directly proportional to TKE and to the turbulent mixing length, with a adjustable proportionality factor. To estimate the turbulent mixing lengths, four different parametrizations from the literature are considered. First, a stable case in the Arctic is simulated, then the model is adjusted to reproduce previously published Large Eddy Simulations (LES) results for the same case. After the calibration, the model is validated through a comparison with observed nocturnal data, from tethered balloon soundings performed at a deforested area in the Amazon region, in the months of July and October 2001 and November 2003. The temporal evolution of potential temperature and specific humidity vertical profiles are simulated and compared to the observations from 13 different nights. The performance of the different formulations is evaluated through a statistic analysis for all nights. Potential temperature profiles were better represented by the model than specific humidity ones. In spite being able to reproduce different stability conditions, the model represented the most stable nights better. Finally, the model was coupled to a surface energy budget scheme and for these simulations the initial conditions from the night of 28 July 2001 were used. The scheme was used to evaluate how the simulated atmospheric variables depend on the wind intensity at the top of the vertical domain for the different formulations and with or without the energy budget scheme being added.

Advanced numerical simulation of corner separation in a linear compressor cascade / Simulation numérique avancée du décollement de coin dans une grille d’aubes linéaire de compresseur

Gao, Feng 10 April 2014 (has links)
The increasing demand to reduce the mass of aircraft jet engines and emissions of aircraft propulsion requires to make the compression system of engines more compact, since this component accounts for about 40%-50% of the total mass. However, at a given overall pressure ratio, decreasing the number of stages will raise the compressor blade loading per stage. The blade loading is extremely restricted by different three-dimensional flow loss mechanisms. One of them is the corner separation that forms between the blade suction side and the hub or shroud. Although some works previously investigated the mechanisms and the parameters of corner separation, it is still difficult to propose an effective control method of the corner separation. That is mainly due to two reasons: (i) the lack of knowledge of the physical mechanisms, (ii) the nowadays classical RANS (Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes) turbulence models are not capable to accurately predict the corner separation, since they cannot correctly describe the turbulent transport mechanisms. RANS (Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes) and LES (large-eddy simulation) simulations are here presented on a compressor cascade configuration, in comparison with experimental data obtained at LMFA (from separate works). The RANS approach globally over-estimates the corner separation, whereas a significant improvement is achieved with the LES, especially for the blade surface static pressure coefficient and the total pressure losses. The corner separation region, which is the main source of the total pressure losses, is shown to generate large-scale energy-containing eddies. The bimodal histograms of the streamwise velocity that were observed experimentally seem to be confirmed by the LES results. Concerning the streamwise velocity fluctuations (RMS), both the experiment and the LES show some profiles with two peaks. Finally, thanks to the LES approach, the turbulent kinetic energy budget, which represents the balance between the production, dissipation and transport terms, are computed and analyzed. This may help the improvement of RANS turbulence modeling.

Commercial mud crab Scylla Serrata : Study on growth, energy and protein requirement of juveniles in the view to develop peleted feed for crab farming in New Caledonia

Nguyen, Thi Bich Ngoc 07 May 2014 (has links)
In New Caledonia, there is the strong political will to diversify aquaculture which is mainly based on shrimp farming. In this context, mud crabs have been considered as a potential species for aquaculture development. One of the main constraints to develop crab farming is the availability of formulated feed. Thus, the main purpose of this thesis is to get information on the crab nutritional requirements in order to formulate a balanced diet. However, we had to clarify first how many species of mud crab were present in New-Caledonia. The result of our morphological and genetic investigations carried out on 63 specimens from 9 areas of the west and northeast coast of New-Caledonia confirmed that only one species, Scylla serrata, is commercialized in this country. Consequently, S. serrata was used in our nutritional study based on two experiments to: i) evaluate the soy protein concentrate (SPC) compared with the fishmeal as the main protein source and ii) determine the optimum level of SPC in the diet for molting and tissue growth. We observed two tissue growth phases within one molt cycle (MC): a fast tissue growth (FTG) occurred after ecdysis until early intermolt stage (30% of MC) which is followed by a slow tissue growth (STG) period from intermolt to ecdysis (70% of MC). Protein and lipid deposition followed the same trend than tissue growth while ash level increased quickly during five days after molt and then remained stable until the next molt. The two growth phases were correlated with the voluntary feed intakes (VFI) which was maximum during 2 weeks after ecdysis and then decreased by 50% over the five following weeks to reach a baseline until the next molt. Intake energy was allocated mainly for growth during FTG period and for maintenance during STG period. During STG, 28% of the ingested energy was accumulated for the next ecdysis. Replacement of fishmeal by SPC as main protein source did not affect tissue growth, efficiency of feed utilization and energy budget of crabs whatever the tissue growth period considered. The dietary SPC inclusion of 42% in the diet promoted growth (molt frequency and tissue growth), feed efficiency and retention of energy, protein and lipid. Hypothesis related to ammonia toxicity from catabolism of proteins in excess or anti-nutritional factors from soybean could explain the negative effects of higher inclusion of SPC in the diet for juvenile crabs. In conclusion, our work brings novel information on tissue growth, energy budget during a molt cycle and the ability of juvenile crab to use SPC as a main source of protein. On this basis we suggest to formulate nutritionally balanced diet without fishmeal to farm juvenile mud crabs S. serrata.

Attracteurs d’ondes internes de gravité : des résonances en cascade : une approche expérimentale des régimes linéaire et non linéaire / Internal gravity waves attractors : from linear resonance to wave turbulence

Davis, Géraldine 01 October 2019 (has links)
Among others, they might explain the irreversible mixing of the oceans. In particular geometries, these waves can focus on limit cycles called attractors. Firstly, we investigate the energy budget of these attractor by measuring the different dissipative terms and the injected power coming from the waves source. If this power is sufficient, the attractor destibilise throught triadic instabilities. We quantify how much these secondary are important to the global dissipation rate. The measurement of injected power in the linear regime has shown that it is bigger for the attractors. This resonance, which had been observed under a monochromatic excitation, is here study by analysing the response of the system to an impulse. A theoretical development is proposed to compare quantitatively these two methods. Finally, we study the non linear regime of attractors, which present some complex spatial and temporal spectrum. We caracterise this non linear regime and show that two very different non linear beahviors exist. We bring up some explanation to these behaviors

Land Treatment for Primary Sewage Effluent: Water and Energy Conservation

Rice, R. C., Gilbert, R. G. 15 April 1978 (has links)
From the Proceedings of the 1978 Meetings of the Arizona Section - American Water Resources Assn. and the Hydrology Section - Arizona Academy of Science - April 14-15, 1978, Flagstaff, Arizona / Land treatment of secondary municipal wastewater is an economical and aesthetic method of upgrading water quality, if hydrologic and geologic conditions are favorable. Costly conventional secondary treatment, which requires large quantities of electrical energy, can be bypassed by applying the primary effluent directly to the land. Soil- denitrifying bacteria use the organic carbon in the primary effluent as an energy source for biodenitrification and nitrogen removal. Laboratory and field studies indicated the quality of renovated wastewater meets standards for unrestricted irrigation and recreational uses. Considerable savings, both in capital and energy costs, can be realized by land treatment of primary effluent.
