Improving emotional intelligence and developing servant leadership skills : an outcome evaluation of Life Choices' Leaders' Quest programmeMulder, Anja January 2016 (has links)
This dissertation presents an outcome evaluation of the Salesians Life Choices' Leaders' Quest programme. The programme targets youth from economically disadvantaged schools in the Cape Flats, and engages with learners during their final two years of high school as well as providing support for an eased transition from school to university, college or employment. Students are exposed to various activities that have been developed to help each individual achieve the programme's goals and objectives. These include developing students' emotional intelligence (EI), improving academic grades, and establishing leadership qualities; helping learners enrol in tertiary education or to obtain employment; and to assume meaningful leadership positions. The organization has been implementing the programme since 2013 and makes continuous attempts to improve elements of the intervention to better serve participants. This evaluation assesses causal mechanisms and assumptions of the intervention against the evidence presented in social science research, and investigates three outcomes based on data collected for the pilot cohort and a control group between 2013 and 2015. The method of analysis includes primary and secondary data collected on measures of an EI tool and a servant leadership survey, as well as information obtained via questionnaires. Quantitative research methods were employed and data were explored using descriptive and inferential statistical analyses.

ASSESSING ARTS EDUCATORS: HOW THE PERFORMANCES OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE HIGH SCHOOL ART TEACHERS ARE ASSESSED IN VIRGINIAPalumbo, Jill 01 May 2013 (has links)
Teacher assessment is a hot topic in today’s high-stakes, test-driven, accountability-focused educational environment. My recent research addresses how high school art educators, under the umbrella of non-tested subjects and grades, are assessed in their classroom teaching practices in Virginia. Based on my findings, it is clear that while the teachers surveyed do not fear accountability, they are wary of being evaluated by those who lack the content knowledge in the arts, by methods that are subjective, and with criteria that is inflexible. This thesis addresses the need to develop open forums that include the educator’s voice in order to create better teacher assessments that focus on student learning achievement in authentic and holistic ways. By learning about and sharing resources regarding how teachers in non-tested subjects and grades are evaluated suggestions are made to organize resources that may help develop more authentic assessments for art teachers focusing on meaningful student learning and achievement.

UNPROFOR i Srebrenica : En fallstudie av FN-styrkans måluppfyllelse och bieffekter i fallet Srebrenica / UNPROFOR in Srebrenica : A case study of the UN-force and its target compliance and side effects in the case of SrebrenicaWitoft, Evelina January 2019 (has links)
The situation in Bosnia and Hercegovina escalated in 1992 and resulted in a war which lasted until 1995, when the end of the war was marked by the signing of the Dayton agreement. The war consisted of conflict between the different groups within the country, with ethnic cleansing as one of the methods being used. In order to keep the peace in the region, the United Nations established the United Nations Protection Force in Yugoslavia. The UNPROFOR were at first meant to keep the peace within Croatia, but as the war broke out in 1992, parts of the force were repositioned to Bosnia. The purpose of this essay is to evaluate whether the UN and UNPROFOR managed to reach the goals set for the intervention in the town of Srebrenica, which was the first city in Bosnia to receive the status as a ”safe area”. In order to establish wheter the goals were met and the effects they had, the instrument of analysis consists of two evaluation models. The goal of the essay is to reach an understanding of the goals of the intervention and to provide with an analysis which can provide with an understanding for this, and perhaps also other interventions conducted by the UN. In the final part of the essay, the presented material is discussed and analyzed in order to reach the purpose of the study. Concludingly the study finds that the goals for UNPROFOR in Srebrenica were not met.

The aim of this thesis is to determine an objectified value of equity capital of the company from a perspective of a parent company. The evaluation will be done by an yield method, however, it will also be compared with the accounting method. FCFF (free cash flow to firm) will be used for the final evaluation. Social Inclusion Outcomes for an Organization's Adolescent Parent InterventionTua, Anayra Ivette 01 January 2018 (has links)
The study institution is a non-profit organization with a model developed from the continuous implementation of needs assessments of the families of adolescent parents in Puerto Rico, with the purpose of increasing their social inclusion potential. Addressing social exclusion and stigmatization of adolescent parents is vital because it generates a dual benefit for social interactions and growth. The social inclusion concept used and further elaborated for adolescent mothers is described by researchers as the level of access to engaging with institutions and societal relationships. This program evaluation was developed to understand the outcomes and effectiveness of the organization's social inclusion interventions. There is a gap in knowledge for comprehensive and family-centered adolescent parent's programs related to their potential for social inclusion. Guided by complex systems theory, the key research questions were designed to assess the potential gains in social inclusion characteristics for the organization's participants. The study utilized organizational, administrative data and used a pre- and post-test design with a comparison group. McNemar test findings indicated statistically significant increase for the intervention group regarding their social inclusion (p < .001); while Wilcoxon test findings indicated statistically significant gain in nurturing family environments (p = .006) and socio-economic positions (p < .001). Further research is recommended to assess the life-course protective factors' characteristics and the social inclusion pathways. The positive social change includes further understanding of social inclusion for adolescent mothers and its related ecological perspectives.

Porovnání reflexních a operantních metod při vyšetření efektu léčby u modelu neuropatické bolesti / Comparison of reflex-based and operant methods when evaluating effects of treatment on pain in experimetnal modelsPanušková, Kristýna January 2021 (has links)
Pharmacological treatment of neuropathic pain is still insufficient. Methylphenidate, a psychostimulant that increases the dopamine and noradrenaline levels, is commonly used for treating ADHD. There have been reports of changes in patients pain thresholds by ADHD patients treated with methylphenidate. The aim of the study is to examine if methylphenidate can affect peripheral neuropathic pain. Neuropathic pain has been modelled on laboratory rats by chronic constriction of the ischiatic nerve. The effect of methylphenidate on the evoked pain component was evaluated on control animals and on animals with neuropathic pain using reflex (plantar test, vonFrey test) and operanting test (thermal place preference). The effect of methylphenidate on the spontaneous components of pain was evaluated using the methods of conditioned place preference. This study has proven that methylphenidate in an applicable dose of 1 mg/kg has an antialodynic effect but does not act antinociceptively. This study further confirms that methylphenidate in low doses does not act as attractant and has no effect on spontaneous pain. The last part of the study compares the different methods for pain measurement and comes to the conclusion that the plantar test is not an adequate method for evaluating the effect of analgesics...
