Det får inte bli för mycket Hollywood : En undersökning om spelfilmens roll i religionskunskapsundervisningen / Don’t Make it too Hollywood : A Study on the Role of Fictional Films in Religious Studies

Ahrent, Edgar Anders Bisse, Tomelius, Jakob Nils Erik January 2023 (has links)
This thesis aims to examine students and teachers’ attitudes towards the use of fiction film in religious studies in upper secondary schools in the province of Scania in Sweden. The thesis has a particular focus on the use of film in order to facilitate understanding of different religions and views of life and what students report gaining from viewing film in the classroom. For this purpose, two research questions were formulated: “How do teachers of religious studies in upper secondary school view the use of fiction film as a teaching resource for the purpose of facilitating understanding of different views of life and religions?” and “How do students view the use of fiction film as a learning resource in religious studies and what do they gain from watching fiction film during religious education?” In order to answer these research questions, ethnographic empirical material was collected from surveys of students as well as a survey of religious education teachers in upper secondary schools in Scania. These surveys were combined with three interviews with upper secondary religious education teachers from two different schools in Scania. This material was later analysed from a hermeneutical perspective with a grounding in previous research in the use of film as a teaching resource. The research found that teachers in upper secondary schools who responded to the survey and were interviewed had a generally positive view on the use of fiction film in religious studies and were positive towards the use of film to facilitate understanding of different views of life and religions. However, teachers showed a bit more trepidation towards the use of fiction films to show how people live their religions. Teachers also expressed that lack of time was a main factor in avoiding the use of fiction film in their teaching. Students were mostly favourable towards the use of film as an educational tool in religious education, however not as big of a majority as the teachers. They also showed a propensity towards wanting to watch fiction films in combination with discussions and group work.

Recepce slovenského filmu v českém tisku v období 1948 - 1969 (se zvláštním zřetelem ke zobrazení Němců) / Reception of Slovak Czech film in the Press in the period 1948 - 1969 (with special attention to the image of the Germans)

Racik, Marek January 2016 (has links)
My thesis focuses on the reception of Slovak fiction film in the Czech press from 1948, the year when Slovakia started to produce their own fiction films regularly, until 1969, when the social changes after the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact troops ended the whole period. There was a notion in the Czech society that Czechoslovak film is a Czech film and the thesis focuses on this notion as it was understood by the Czech film critics. My goal is to find and explain, when and how the Czech film journalism started to recognize the differences inside the Czechoslovak film and pointed out the unique identity of the Slovak film in the Czech press. Furthermore, I examine how the Slovak film was rated by Czech film critics in the Czech film scholar press, film magazines and newspapers. The first part of the thesis examines the Czech-Slovak relations in the light of newly established Slovak fiction film. The second part focuses on the complex approach of the Czech film critical journals towards Slovak film, influenced by the state power between the years 1948 - 1960. The third part reflects the appearance of the topics concerning SNP and the so called Slovak New Wave, which lasted during two separate periods between the years 1960 - 1969. The construction of migration from the country side to the city in peruvian cinema: from it´s filmmakers

Pizarro Dyer, Ximena Alexandra 08 July 2020 (has links)
The research study presented in this document is to analyze the representation of the migration from the countryside to the city in peruvian fiction cinema y from the perspective of film directors and specialists in the field. Migration is a important phenomenon in our peruvian culture and it´s our duty to understand the reality of migrants from the countryside to the city. However, there isn´t a relevant number of cinematographic evidence that deepens this topic without resorting to the same standardized stereotypes in our environment, diminishing their history. In this study, I will analyze the films that have exposed the universe of migration and how they have exemplified the construction of space and the migrant character. These will be the subject of debate by contemporary Peruvian film directors who will generate an opinion based on their own films and experiences. In addition, specialists in the field will explain why they´re isn´t interest on the subject of migration in peruvian fiction cinema based on their own research. The corpus of this set of films will symbolize evidence of the importance of including this subject in our cinema and the poor representation of the migrant character in our country.

Crépeau, Marie-Ève 10 1900 (has links)
This study has as its main goal the examination of the use of the handheld camera in the films Faces by John Cassavetes and La vie nouvelle by Philippe Grandrieux. Far from associating the handheld camera to a character’s point of view these filmmakers seem to inscribe the camera and its shake as an autonomous third person which is part of the fictional space. By the similar position these filmmakers give to the camera and by the importance they attribute to improvisation during the shoot they create a proximity between the character and the camera which has an impact on the visual aesthetic of their films; this affected aesthetic intensifies the experience felt by the audience. By examining the process of making the film, the handheld aesthetic as well as the audience response, we will see how this transfer of affect is made possible. To analyse this affective transfer, caused by what one would call the catalytic camera, we will rely on a selection of chosen philosophies.

Zeitgeist incarnate : a theological interpretation of postapocalyptic zombie fiction

Baird, David January 2019 (has links)
This thesis attempts to take seriously the claims made by many postapocalyptic zombie narratives to represent the world as it truly is, analyzing and then assessing the theological value of their depictions of the human predicament. The approach is both formal and what Gary Wolfe calls transmedial, examining the recurring narrative structures and themes of texts across several media and eras as part of 'a popular aesthetic movement and not just a body of works of fiction on similar themes', with special attention given to the films and television of the new millennium. The aim is twofold: to extend the relevance of postapocalyptic zombie fictions beyond the relatively narrow vogue of a cultural moment, and to prompt a richer appreciation of the significance of the Christian faith within contemporary society. To this end, Chapter One contextualizes the complexity of these texts' relationship to Christianity by examining first the most prominent obstacles and then the implicit promise of these texts for theological reflection. It places special emphasis on the interior tension in many of these fictions between, on the one hand, aggressively emphasizing the apparent absence of the supernatural, while on the other, frequently claiming to disclose a dimension of human experience in excess of what can be ordinarily perceived by the senses. Chapters Two and Three extend this analysis to the complex content of what these stories depict. Chapter Two considers the multilayered symbolism of decline in their conspicuous spectacles of disaster, disintegration, and death. Chapter Three examines the countervailing symbolic motifs of residual integrity and regeneration that are exhibited most prominently by characters who attempt to live genuinely human lives in spite of these circumstances. The first half of the thesis concludes by proposing a composite postapocalyptic view of the human predicament, which represents the world as ambiguous, dramatic and quite possibly, although not certainly, absurd. Chapter Four begins the theological reflection upon this kind of postapocalyptic perspective, proposing how such depictions might be illuminated by Christian theological descriptions, particularly the absurd existential circumstances brought about by the original sin. Chapter Five, reciprocally, suggests some of the ways the dramatic images of these texts might enrich theological reflection by eliciting fresh insights into the significance of the central mysteries of Christianity, especially the paradoxical already-and-not-yet of eschatological expectation. The thesis concludes by offering a final evaluation of whether, all told, the world can be truly considered postapocalyptic from a Christian perspective, arguing that although there are significant differences, postapocalyptic fictions and Christianity put forward strikingly similar pictures of the deeply self-conflicted circumstances of the common human predicament.

Особенности перевода документальных фильмов (на материале: «The Hero», «Один день» и «ALMA – A Window into the Mysteries of the Universe») : магистерская диссертация / Peculiarities of the Documentary Translation: on the Base of The Hero, ‘Один день’, and ALMA – A Window into the Mysteries of the Universe

Е., Galkova, N. Y. January 2016 (has links)
В настоящей работе изучены и подготовлен перевод документальных фильмов, относящихся к военной тематике («The Hero»), к социально- политической («Один день») и к естественно-научной («ALMA – A Window into the Mysteries of the Universe»). / The master’s thesis is aimed at analyzing the specific features and characteristics of the translation of documentaries along with their titles from English into Russian and vice versa. The primary purpose of this study is to determine the main translation strategies which are used in the translation of non-fiction films. Data for this research were obtained from the real present-day film projects: «The Hero», (2013); «Один день», (2012); and «ALMA – A Window into the Mysteries of the Universe», (2014). The research consists of three theoretical chapters and three practical ones. The comparative and contrastive methods are the key approaches in the thesis, and the practical part of the study is prepared in accordance with them. Moreover, the research focuses on the subtitling translation as one of the most popular techniques. The thesis accent falls on the pragmatic adaptation as well. The results show that for popular science films that are devoted in this case to various themes ranging from the military service and soldiering to natural and scientific projects contain plenty of terms. Consequently, these documentaries demand from a translator special knowledge and deep comprehension. Thus, the most obvious conclusions of the research are the difficulty in the documentary translation on the lexical level that is closely connected with the stylistics of the film text and also on the level of the grammar that is attributed to the differences between the Russian and English languages.
