Laga, Arezki 20 December 2018 (has links)
The growing volume of data poses a real challenge to data processing software like DBMS (DataBase Management Systems) and data storage infrastructure. New technologies have emerged in order to face the data volume challenges. We considered in this thesis the emerging new external memories like flash memory-based storage devices named SSD (Solid State Drive).SSD storage devices offer a performance gain compared to the traditional magnetic devices. However, SSD devices offer a new performance model that involves 10 cost optimization for data processing and management algorithms. We proposed in this thesis an 10 cost model to evaluate the data processing algorithms. This model considers mainly the SSD 10 performance and the data distribution. We also proposed a new external sorting algorithm: MONTRES. This algorithm includes optimizations to reduce the 10 cost when the volume of data is greater than the allocated memory space by an order of magnitude. We proposed finally a data prefetching mechanism: Lynx. This one makes use of a machine learning technique to predict and to anticipate future access to the external memory.

The approach is anchored in theory, especially in the French thinker Michel Maffesoli, whose method the comprehensive sociology. The theoretical framework articulated the maffesoliano thought to youths as a category or metaphor way of being youthful and technological implications in the process of interaction, mediation and empowerment of youth aesthetic expressions. We use Maffesoli notions as categories to understand the new forms of tribes sociality through their various art forms in cyberspace. Flash Mobs descriptions and analyzes demonstrations posted on YouTube videos and groups that maintain website - Facebook pages for dissemination of artistic and cultural meetings mediated by cyberspace allowed realize that not all tribes operate through the same dynamic, which it led us to develop the idea of intensity of youth practices both in terms of the forms of ownership, such as how to relate to what was appropriate. The aestheticemotional bias leads to identify the mode of being youthful with a Dionysian spirit. As Aphrodite s metaphor (sensuality referred not only to sexuality, but freedom is sought in living without rules, a return to nature) that, for us, also round the being-together of the tribes. Therefore we find in the artistic frames a visibility of youths plenty the dialogue on physical and virtual interface and occupy public spaces in the city.

Le rôle des restrictions temporelles de vente sur l'évaluation de l'offre et l'intention d'achat : analyse par méthode des scénarios / The role of temporal restrictions on offer evaluation and purchase intention : analysis by scenario method

Kilani, Asma 28 September 2017 (has links)
The role of the sales restrictions on the evaluation of the offer and the intention of purchase still stays controversial. The marketing literature is divided over the subject and sets up different conceptual frames and theories explaining the effects of these restrictions. Facing the lack of unanimity in literature, in a context where the rentability of sales promotions is not established, this thesis aims to a better comprehension of the impact of the temporal limits on the evaluation of a promotional sales offer and the intention of the consumer's purchase. This survey was made through a mixed methodology made by an exploratoring study lead by focus groups and by a quantitative study lead by the scanario method. The results of our explorating survey underline an ambivalent behaviour versus the temporal restriction of sales. Our empiric study reveals a moderating role of the brand able to limit the perception of the drawbacks in the space of the time restrictions of sales.

The modulation of visual perceptual latencies by motor actions.

Haddad Junior, Hamilton 10 November 2008 (has links)
Organisms are able to distinguish between sensory stimuli from the environment and sensory stimuli they cause. This process depends on neural and cognitive mechanisms that link actions to perceptions generated by these actions. This work aimed to investigate the interaction of action and perception in the temporal domain. In five psychophysical experiments, we have assessed the modulation of action in the flash-lag effect and in tasks involving temporal interval estimations. Our results showed that the planning and execution of a voluntary motor action are capable of reducing both visual perceptual latencies and temporal interval estimations. This reduction increases when the sensory consequences of motor actions are presented on the fovea and when a delay is injected between the action and the stimuli caused by it.

Magnetic Oxides-based Hetero-Nanostructured Ceramics : from Nanomaterial Engineering to Exchange-bias Coupling / Céramiques Magnétique Hétéro-Nanostructurés à base d’oxydes : de la Conception des Nanomatériaux ou Couplage d’échange

Franceschin, Giulia 08 December 2017 (has links)
Recently the scientific research led its attention towards energy related fields because of the increasing energy consumption that affected the last few decades. Magnetic materials are determining in energy-based applications and the enhancement of their performances has a primary role on the technological development. The present work explores the possibility to prepare hetero-nano-structured magnetic ceramic composites based on oxide constituents. A ferromagnetic oxide (F) was coupled with an antiferromagnetic one (AF) at a nanometric size scale to study the resulting magnetic properties, above all concerting the exchange coupling between the two different phases. The establishing of the exchange-bias effect at the F-AF phases interface is desirable in order to increase the magneto-crystalline anisotropy of the system and the relative energy product BHmax. At this aim, two different F oxides were took into account, the Fe3O4 and the CoFe2O4, and three different AF oxides, CoO, NiO and hematite α-Fe2O3. Oxide nanoparticles of each component were prepared by polyol synthesis, with a good crystalline quality and uniform morphology. They were then employed to prepare consolidate ceramic samples by SPS technique. For each sample, one F oxide was mixed with one of the AF oxides. The resulting ceramics were formed by different F/AF mass ratio, varying between 0,75/0,25, 0,5/0,5 and 0,25/0,75, and by different combinations between the considered F and AF oxides. All the samples were sintered at 500°C and 100 MPa for 5 minutes. All the ceramics were deeply studied, above all concerning their structure, microstructure and magnetic properties. HR-TEM analysis performed on FIB-refined slides of the Fe3O4-CoO, Fe3O4-NiO and CoFe2O4-NiO ceramic samples, together with XRD results, highlighted an important variation of samples’ composition after sintering. A new metallic phase is formed after sintering cause to the strongly reductive atmosphere during the SPS process, thus modifying the relative composition of the single F and AF phases too. The establishing of exchange-bias effects was hardly observed exactly because of the atoms diffusion that affects the sample. The hematite AF nanoparticles, indeed, were found to be unstable in a wide temperature range and thus unsuitable for this kind of application. In particular, a phase transformation occurring at about 380°C was observed when an external magnetic field is applied. Such a transition was studied by mean of magnetometer characterisation, HR-TEM and EELS analysis and was found to involve hematite transforming into magnetite. The mechanism of such transformation hasn’t been understood yet and is under further investigation

Kinetics of proton and electron transfer in heme-copper oxidases

Lachmann, Peter January 2015 (has links)
Heme-copper oxidases are transmembrane proteins that are found in aerobic and anaerobic respiratory chains. During aerobic respiration, these enzymes reduce dioxygen to water. The energy released in the reaction is used to transport protons across a biological membrane. Stored as proton electrochemical gradient, the energy can be used to regenerate ATP. It is known that aa3 oxidases, which are the most common oxidases, transport pumped protons and protons used for the catalytic reaction using two proton pathways. However, the molecular mechanism of pumping is still being debated. When oxygen is available in very small quantities, oxygen reductases with high affinity for oxygen are expressed by organisms like Thermus thermophilus. The proton pumping mechanism in the ba3 oxidase is slightly different from that of aa3 oxidases as this enzyme only uses a single proton uptake pathway. Here we analyzed the reaction mechanism of ba3 oxidase and found evidence that the first proton taken up by the four-electron reduced ba3 oxidase is transferred to a site distant from the catalytic site, the pump site, and that only every second proton taken up from solution is pumped. Data obtained from studies using site-directed mutagenesis and flow-flash spectroscopy suggest a probable location of the pump site. Under anaerobic conditions, some organisms are able to generate a proton- motive force using nitrate and nitrite as electron acceptors. In this process, the cytotoxic reaction intermediate nitric oxide is produced. Nitric oxide reductase (NOR), a deviant heme-copper oxidase that reduces NO to the rather harmless N2O, does not pump any protons. The catalytic mechanism of nitric oxide reduction by NOR is very poorly understood. Here we demonstrate that substrate inhibition, which occurs in NOR from Paracoccus denitrificans above 5 μM NO, can already be observed before the electrons from the low-spin hemes re-distribute to the active site. Furthermore, we found that a single specific proton pathway is used for proton-transfer leading from the periplasm to the active site.

Traitement physique et catalytique des vapeurs de pyrolyse flash : vers la double valorisation matière-énergie / Physical and catalytic treatment of flash pyrolysis vapors : A step forward in the material and energic valorisation of bio-oils

Ruiz Bailon, Miguel 12 July 2018 (has links)
Flash pyrolysis (FP) is an efficient thermochemical route to convert biomass in bio-oils. Bio-oils are energetic and material renewable vectors with a high potential to replace fossil fuel. Nevertheless, bio-oils are high oxygenated and acidic liquids with a high content of solid particles. These particular physico-chemical properties are the main drawbacks that hinder the development of industrials bio-oil applications. The main goal of this work has been to upgrade the quality of flash pyrolysis oils. To reach this goal, we developed an ex-situ post-treatment unit composed of: a hot has filter unit (HGF) and a fixed bed catalytic reactor.Firstly, several experimental campaigns, conducted at laboratory and pilot scale, shown the impact of three HGF parameters (HGF temperature, HGF char thickness, and inorganic content of raw biomass) in the nature and extension of secondary reactions inside the HGF unit. In addition, limitations concerning to long-term process operation of HGF units were identified. Secondly, the catalytic activity of several materials in the form of pellets was investigated. Micro porous zeolite HMFI-90 showed a high activity on the conversion of light oxygenated molecules such as: acids, aldehydes and ketones. A parametric study allowed us to identify a compromise between the rise in the energy content of catalytic bio-oils and the loss in the organic yield. Lastly, taking into consideration the complex (multicomponent and multiphase) composition of FP vapors we explored a new cascade catalytic strategy. For that, we first tested a new catalyst formulation based on iron nanoparticles supported on hierarchical porous gamma-alumina pellets (Fe/bi-Al2O3). Then, we used both catalyst (zeolite HMFI90 and Fe/bi-Al2O3) in a cascade configuration. Our results suggested that this new cascade strategy could enhance the overall catalyst treatment performance.

Flash-krascher : Ett allvarligt problem på Stockholmsbörsen? / Flash crasches : A severe problem at Nasdaq OMX Stockholm?

Roth, Sebastian, Söderström, Madelene January 2018 (has links)
Title:  Flash crashes – a severe problem at Nasdaq OMX Stockholm? Authors:  Madelene Söderström & Sebastian Roth Advisor:  Bo Sjö Subject:  Bachelor thesis in finance Purpose:  The purpose of this study is to understand and critically examine the impact flash crashes might have on the market for securities at Nasdaq OMX Stockholm. Our goal is to provide a clearer view on how flash crashes affect the trade and the market participants. Method:  This thesis is a qualitative study based on interviews with respondents with different approach to both Nasdaq OMX Stockholm and the financial market in Sweden. Theory:  The thesis is based on earlier studies within the subject made from data and events from United States of America. Other economic theories that the thesis involve is adverse selection. Empirics:  The study is predicated around seven semi structured interviews with participants on the financial market in Sweden. The interviews are compared with the earlier events from USA to make for conclusions about flash crashes on Nasdaq OMX Stockholm. Conclusion:  We find that it is unlikely that a flash crash of the same magnitude as the May 6, 2010 flash crash will occur on the Nasdaq OMX Stockholm exchange today. Furthermore, flash crashes appear to have little impact on the market participants at Nasdaq OMX Stockholm, though there may be concerns about trust issues following flash crashes that should be considered. While studying some of the earlier research we find interesting theories about ways to predict flash crashes before they have occurred, we can’t make any conclusions about these theories connected to Nasdaq OMX Stockholm though.

Sinterização de vidro soda-cal-sílica comercial assistida por campo elétrico / Commercial soda-lime-silica glass sintering assisted by electrical field

Marcelo Gomes Bacha 31 May 2017 (has links)
Efficient production methods saving time and energy are always demanded and novel reduced-cost sintering processes have being developed for ceramic materials and implemented by companies and researchers of all over the world. With this aim, a new sintering approach generally known as flash sintering is attracting great interest. This new sintering technique involves the application of electric field through a sample while heating, thereby generating abrupt acceleration of the densification kinetics, decreasing the sintering time from hours to seconds and decreasing the oven heating in up to hundreds of degrees Celsius. Well described for polycrystalline ceramics and ceramic-and-glass composites, the sintering of pure glass aided by electric field is still lacking in the literature. The sintering assisted by electric field, was successfully controlled, without sample flow, achieved a high relative density of a commercial glass. A non-stoichiometric soda-lime-silica window glass was used due to its commercial importance, low cost starting material, ionic conduction, and literature on physical properties and conventional sintering kinetics. Electric field was observed to also strongly influence window glass sintering kinetics. The experimental results were compared with analytical calculations obtained from the non-isothermal Clusters model of glass sintering by viscous flow with concurrent crystallization. The temperature increase in the glass powder compacts during oven heating and electric field application was estimated by using a black-body radiation model. Preliminary, the temperature increase due to Joule effect can explain the softening temperature decrease compared with the oven temperature, and the fast sintering of the studied glass.
