Sexual Assault, Perceived Stigma, and Christian Fundamentalism: Understanding Support Seeking Among Victims.Rife, Sean Chandler 09 May 2009 (has links) (PDF)
For women, sexual assault is a widespread problem with numerous psychological consequences, yet many victims do not seek support. The present study investigates this lack of support seeking in the context of stigma. It is hypothesized that sexual assault victims who perceive themselves as stigmatized (due to their status as a sexual assault victim) will be less likely to seek support than those who do not perceive themselves as stigmatized. It is also hypothesized that Christian fundamentalism will play a role in the stigmatization of sexual assault victims, with higher degrees of fundamentalism being associated with greater likelihood of self-perceptions of stigmatization among sexual assault victims. Results indicate that there is a relationship between perceived stigma and certain support sources (clergy, parents, and other relatives), but this relationship is positive. The hypothesized relationship between Christian fundamentalism and perceived stigma was partially supported.

Predictors of Perfectionism in Latter-day Saint StudentsTenney, Preston V. 28 March 2013 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of the present study was to gain insight into the prevalence, nature and etiology of perfectionism in a sample of devout Latter-day Saint college students at Brigham Young University. A number of variables-including self-conscious emotions, mental health, interpersonal/cognitive style, and religious orientation-were entered into multiple regression models to determine the strongest predictors of perfectionism. Participants were 245 students studying at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT in the spring of 1995. The self-conscious construct of shame demonstrated to be the strongest predictor of perfectionism followed by depression and religious fundamentalism. In addition to these findings, it was found that students in our sample were not more susceptible to perfectionism than other samples of religious students.

[en] CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALISM: NOTES FOR ITS CONCEPTUALIZATION AND OVERCOMING / [pt] O FUNDAMENTALISMO CRISTÃO: NOTAS PARA SUA CONCEITUAÇÃO E SUPERAÇÃOISRAEL VIEIRA MAGALHAES 11 September 2023 (has links)
E, no apontamento desta superação,
[en] After the rise of far-right movements in politics in recent years, some religious
expressions linked to these movements have been categorized as fundamentalist.
This concept, however, is not as clear as the recurrence of its use suggests, and,
evidently, without a good concept that helps in identifying what fundamentalism is,
little progress is made in overcoming it. Therefore, this work proposes, first, to offer
a concept for fundamentalism — extracted from its American evangelical origin
[1900-1925] —, and, from it, it wishes to point out some alternative ways of
overcoming it. In the construction of this concept, attention is drawn to the
interaction between its hermeneutic structure and the fundamentalist use of the
Bible, showing how this dynamic generates a violent political posture. And, in
pointing out this overcoming, the need for a new conception of the Bible and the
importance of assessing the condition of the interpreter are shown.

The purpose of this master's thesis is to clearly examine how the police educations located at the five different universities in Sweden: The University of Borås, Linnaeus University in Växjö, Malmö University, Södertörn University and Umeå University educate police students in discrimination, extremism, fanaticism, fundamentalism, hate crimes, honor crimes, violent groups and terrorism. Furthermore, this master's thesis aims to demonstrate how much the education for the police programs differs for the selected subject areas where a survey aimed at the teachers at the respective higher education institution was sent out and where it could be made visible to a large extent the varying answers together with the comparison of the course content from the respective higher education institution. The overall results of both my survey and also previous related research show that education in discrimination, extremism, fanaticism, fundamentalism, hate crimes, honor crimes, violent groups and terrorism is poor in the public sector in general and that more education is generally needed due to Sweden's changed demographics over time.

The leadership spiritualityof multnomah bible college its impact on the organisation todayKopp, Bonnie Sue 30 November 2005 (has links)
This study examines archival materials, pertinent literary sources, and nine interviews, (identified in Chapter One), in order to understand the leadership spirituality of Multnomah Bible College and its impact on the organisation today. To accomplish this goal, a study of spirituality and, in particular Christian Spirituality was undertaken. Since Multnomah was established during the American Bible Institute Movement, the movement itself was researched to understand its theological and historical context. With this background in mind, the academy was researched to gain knowledge into its specific theological and historical context. The historical and theological trends in the Pacific Northwest were investigated first, along with influential individuals, to gain insight into what specifically motivated the inauguration of the academy in Portland, Oregon. After gaining insight into why the academy was established, the study was expanded further into a brief history of the development and expansion of the institution itself from 1936 to the present. This more extensive historical and theological background provides the necessary platform in understanding the present situation at Multnomah and its possible future. Subsequently, the individual spiritual journey of nine Multnomah leaders were explored through qualitative interviewing, the most effective means of obtaining such personal information. The findings shed light on their leadership spirituality and impact on the academy. The data from the research was subsequently evaluated in light of known theories of faith and leadership development. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Th.
