Portfolio management using computational intelligence approaches. Forecasting and Optimising the Stock Returns and Stock Volatilities with Fuzzy Logic, Neural Network and Evolutionary Algorithms.Skolpadungket, Prisadarng January 2013 (has links)
Portfolio optimisation has a number of constraints resulting from some practical matters and regulations. The closed-form mathematical solution of portfolio optimisation problems usually cannot include these constraints. Exhaustive search to reach the exact solution can take prohibitive amount of computational time. Portfolio optimisation models are also usually impaired by the estimation error problem caused by lack of ability to predict the future accurately. A number of Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithms are proposed to solve the problem with two objectives subject to cardinality constraints, floor constraints and round-lot constraints. Fuzzy logic is incorporated into the Vector Evaluated Genetic Algorithm (VEGA) to but solutions tend to cluster around a few points. Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm 2 (SPEA2) gives solutions which are evenly distributed portfolio along the effective front while MOGA is more time efficient. An Evolutionary Artificial Neural Network (EANN) is proposed. It automatically evolves the ANN¿s initial values and structures hidden nodes and layers. The EANN gives a better performance in stock return forecasts in comparison with those of Ordinary Least Square Estimation and of Back Propagation and Elman Recurrent ANNs. Adaptation algorithms for selecting a pair of forecasting models, which are based on fuzzy logic-like rules, are proposed to select best models given an economic scenario. Their predictive performances are better than those of the comparing forecasting models. MOGA and SPEA2 are modified to include a third objective to handle model risk and are evaluated and tested for their performances. The result shows that they perform better than those without the third objective.

[en] INTELLIGENT SYSTEM FOR OPTIMIZATION OF ALTERNATIVES FOR PETROLEUM FIELDS DEVELOPMENT / [pt] SISTEMA INTELIGENTE DE OTIMIZAÇÃO DE ALTERNATIVAS DE DESENVOLVIMENTO DE CAMPOS PETROLÍFEROSYVAN JESUS TUPAC VALDIVIA 15 June 2005 (has links)
[pt] Este trabalho investiga o problema de otimização de
alternativas para o
desenvolvimento de campos petrolíferos. Uma alternativa de
desenvolvimento
o maior valor presente líquido (VPL), obtido a partir do
aproximar a função
serem aproveitadas
durante a otimização. Este trabalho consistiu de 4 etapas:
uma revisão da
literatura sobre desenvolvimento de campos petrolíferos,
simulação de
reservatórios e caracterização de campos petrolíferos; um
estudo das técnicas de
inteligência computacional para otimização e aproximação de
funções;
desenvolvimento do modelo proposto de otimização de
alternativas; e o estudo de
casos.
do uso do ambiente paralelo.
vindas do conhecimento
do engenheiro de reservatório. / [en] This work investigates the problem of optimization of
alternatives for
petroleum fields` development. A development alternative
refers to the way a
well-known and delimited petroleum field is placed in
production. This process
involves the determination of the number, localization and
scheduling of producer
and injector wells. Thus, the optimization of alternatives
consists of finding the
production configurations that, in the long term, provide
the maximum net present
value (NPV); this is obtained from the investment cost, oil
price, oil & gas
production, operation costs and taxes and royalties paid
during the production
time. The oil and gas production is obtained from a
reservoir simulator. The
simulator receives information from the alternative to be
simulated, and returns an
oil & gas production to specified production time. Each
simulation can take from
a few seconds to several hours, depending on complexity of
the reservoir being
modeled. This work proposes, implements and evaluates an
intelligent
optimization system that comprises: genetic algorithms
(GAs) to search an
optimal development alternative; using of parallel
computing environment to
reservoir simulation and NPV computing; an inference
module, basis in intelligent
models, to approximate the oil production function; and a
oilfield characterization
module, basis in quality maps, to obtain information about
the oilfield to use
during optimization process. This work consisted of four
stages: a literature
review about petroleum field development and reservoir
simulation; a study about
computational intelligence techniques applied in
optimization and functions
approximation; the development of alternatives optimization
proposal model; and
the case studies. The proposal model was evaluated using
homogeneous and
heterogeneous reservoir configurations, obtaining results
of optimization, by using
characterization, the inference module and the parallel
environment. The obtained
results indicate that the proposed model provides
alternatives with high NPV
without previous knowledge and also from information
provided by
characterization or information inserted by the expert as
initial seeds into optimization. The main contribution of
this work is the conception and the
implementation of a system basis in intelligent techniques
to optimize
development alternatives offering a reduction time to an
iterative process,
obtained from exploit of computational effort of a parallel
computing environment
or by using of production curves approximations. This
intelligent system offers a
decision-support tool that allows automating the search
process of development
alternatives and exploiting information from knowledge of
reservoir engineers.

January 2017 (has links)

The control designs require only the lower and upper bounds of the system nonlinearities and of the system linear parameters, which can depend on uncertain parameters. In practical applications, due to the operational restrictions of the equipments, in the control design, it is necessary to consider that the control law is subject to actuator saturation. First, using a methodology found in the literature to solve the actuator saturation problem, one proposes a switched control law that chooses a state-feedback controller gain, which belongs to a given set of gains, that minimizes the time derivative of a quadratic Lyapunov function. This procedure eliminates the necessity of finding the membership function expressions to implement the control law, guarantees an H∞ performance and ensures that the state trajectory remains within a region in which the T-S fuzzy model is valid. In addition, the actuator saturation problem is approached with another methodology, using the control signal to compose an extended state vector. Then, the region in which the uncertain nonlinear system is exactly represented via T-S fuzzy models is composed by the bounds of the control signal. A switched control law, which chooses an extended state-feedback controller gain, is proposed. The design conditions avoid the presence o... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Doutor

This thesis proposes local H∞ switched control designs for a class of uncertain nonlinear plants described by Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models with unknown membership functions. Finally, three examples are presented. The first example studies the control of a chaotic Lorenz system. It shows that, for disturbances with large magnitude, the proposed procedures provided better results than the obtained with another recent method found in the literature, that considers full access to the membership functions. In the second example, a practical implementation of an active suspension control system, considering a nonlinear spring and an actuator fault, confirms the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The last example uses an inverted pendulum system to address the local stability control problem. The simulations illustrate that the control scheme, which uses the extended state vector, is able to avoid a possible discontinuity of the control signal. / CNPq: 142035/2013-0

This work introduces a methodology for the generation and optimization of Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy models with Orthonormal Basis Functions (OBF) for nonlinear dynamic systems based on a genetic algorithm. Orthonormal basis functions have been used because they provide models with properties like absence of output feedback and the possibility to reach a reasonable approximation capability with just a few parameters. TS fuzzy models aggregate to these properties the characteristics of interpretability and easiness to knowledge representation in a linguistic manner. Genetic algorithms appear as a well-established method for tuning parameters of TS fuzzy models. In this context, it was developed a genetic algorithm for the optimization of two architectures, the OBF TS fuzzy model and its extension, the Generalized OBF TS fuzzy model. Local linear and nonlinear models in the consequent of the fuzzy rules were analyzed, as well as the difference between local and global estimation (using least squares estimation) of the parameters of these local models. Each architecture had a specific chromosome representation in the genetic algorithm. It was developed a fitness function based on the Akaike information criterion. With respect to the genetic operators, the arithmetic crossover was modified in order to maintain the population diversity and the Gaussian mutation had its distribution varied along the generations and differentiated for each gene. Besides, it was used, in the first architecture presented, a method for simplifying the solutions by using similarity measures. The whole methodology was evaluated in modeling two nonlinear dynamic systems, a polymerization process and a magnetic levitator / Mestrado / Automação / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica
