Design of Structures and Clutching Sequences of Combinational Epicyclic-Type Automatic Transmissions for Automobiles

Lee, Su-I 10 September 2009 (has links)
An epicyclic-type automatic transmission is a device which is connected from engine to driving wheels, and the main purpose is to maintain the revolution speed of engine to be in a desired working range while accelerating or decelerating the automobile. The epicyclic -type automatic transmissions in production are mostly Ravigneaux-type epicyclic mechanisms, and in recent year, the development of automatic transmissions for automobile is oriented to the orientation of setting an single epicyclic gear mechanism instead of the input to bring various inputs of revolution speed to increase the total number of speed ratios of an automatic transmission, and such type of epicyclic is called combinational epicyclic-type automatic transmissions for automobiles. For the incompletion in the relative design methodology, a systematic methodology of designing mechanism and clutching-sequence of combinational epicyclic-type automobile transmission is described. First, fundamental principle of the combination and operations of automatic transmissions are analyzed to establish the design requirements. Second, a procedure of structure synthesis of combinational epicyclic-type automobile transmission is brought up which the planar graphic method is applied for. Third, based on Speed Ratio Relationship of each clutching sequence, a procedure of gearing-sequence is introduced. Finally, on the basis of the analytic method, the teeth of gears is to be clarified. The result of this work obtains five types of the combinational epicyclic-type automatic transmissions which could reach six speeds.

Study on the Design Methodology for the Epicyclic-Type Automatic Transmissions of Automobiles

Huang, Ruei-Hong 09 February 2009 (has links)
An automatic transmission is a device that is connected to the back of an engine and sends the power from the engine to the drive wheels. Its job is to keep the engine within a certain angular velocity. Although there are many epicyclic-type automatic transmissions in production, the related configuration design methods are still tedious and prone to human error. A simple and analytic methodology needs to be developed. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to present an efficient methodology for the systematic design of the epicyclic gear transmissions for automobiles. First, fundamentals and gear-shifting operations of the four-speed, five-speed and six-speed epicyclic-type automatic transmissions are illustrated to establish the design requirements. Second, based on the kinematic equations of the fundamental geared entities and the corresponding basic gear ratios, a procedure is applied to execute the kinematic and mechanical-efficiency analyses for the automatic transmissions. Third, two simple clutching-sequence synthesis methods are proposed and illustrated. One is based on the speed ratio equations, and another is based on the lever diagram. Next, a planar-graph representation is presented to arrange the desired clutches for each possible clutching sequence into the epicyclic gear mechanism. Then, the number of teeth of each gear is synthesized from assigning two or three desired speed ratios by the analytic method. Finally, a computer-aided design program for the clutching-sequence synthesis is developed with the considerations of the design requirements. With the above methods, the systematic designs of the 204 epicylic gear mechanisms are given for demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed methodology. The result of this work shows that the seven-link two-DOF epicylic gear mechanisms, the eight-link two-DOF Ravigneaux gear mechanism, and the nine-link two-DOF parallel-connected epicylic gear mechanisms could reach four-, six-, and six-forward speeds at most, respectively.

Koncepční návrh dvoutoké převodovky / Design of direct shift gearbox

Kliš, Vojtěch January 2021 (has links)
This thesis deals with the conceptual design of a double clutch gearbox and the inspection of selected designed parts of this gearbox. The first part of the thesis is focused on the theory of automotive transmissions and analysis of already available double clutch gearboxes. The following is the conceptual design itself, which is based on the selected vehicle on which the transmission will be located and on driving resistances. Based on these default values, the gear graduation is selected, which affects the vehicle’s driving dynamics. With regard to the installation space, a conceptual arrangement of the gearbox is proposed. Furthermore, the thesis is focused on the basic design and calculations of individual functional components of the gearbox. The last part of the thesis is involved to the control of selected structural nodes using the finite element method in the ansys workbench software. The whole thesis describes the individual steps for the design of the basic concept of a double clutch gearbox and the design of their basic components.

Development of an Optical Scattering Measurement Device / Produktutveckling av ett optiskt mätinstrument

Grünwald, Ida, Gåhlin, Amanda January 2024 (has links)
Optical scattering measurement devices are used to measure light reflection and light scattering from materials, to obtain data of the surface and bulk properties of materials. The measurement data are often used in research and development projects where material requirements are important, also for quality control in manufacturing processes, in different optical simulations and can be used for photorealistic rendering. In this master thesis project conducted at AFRY, a multifunctional team will develop an optical scattering measurement device that aims to collect data more accurately than current devices on the market. This thesis will focus on the mechanical design of the device which consists of the stability and movement of the components, the environment of the measurements and material selection with a focus on performance and sustainability. The optical model that will act as a basis for the development will be a gonioreflectometer consisting of a material sample, sample holder, light source, detector and an environment in which the measurements are conducted. Some of the physical, cognitive and emotional needs of the intended user are efficient use, low risk of misuse, reliable and high precision. A thorough requirement specification was made as a framework for the concept generation. The selected concept provides the movement of the optical components with an angular step enabling the desired optical scattering measurement. The selected stepper motor and gear ratio provides the flexibility of the movement, making it easy for the user to change angular steps of the optical components, enabling both fine and rough measurements. A separating screen was chosen for both concepts in order to avoid light contamination between measurements and the material sample holder resembles a frame that allows for mounting the material sample outside of the device. The mechanical system has a high stability and the material black anodized aluminum further contributes to the sturdiness of the construction. A physical prototype was created to validate the movement, since the movement of the detector and light source will be similar, only the detector movement was prototyped. The prototype showed that the movement of the detector worked in the desired way, hence the construction of the movement is approved. The scope was delimited in consensus with the project members and supervisors due to the time frame, hence there is future work on the device that should be accounted for. In conclusion, the purpose of the project was fulfilled after delimiting the goals and a conceptual solution was created that fulfilled the requirements of the project.
