Interoperability in Federated Clouds

Bhojwani, Sushil 29 September 2015 (has links)
Cloud Computing is the new trend in sharing resources, sharing and managing data and performing computations on a shared resource via the Internet. However, with the constant increase in demand, these resources are insufficient. So users often use another network in conjunction with the current one. All these networks accom- plish the goal of providing the user with a virtual or physical machine. However, to achieve the result, virtual machine users have to maintain multitude credentials and follow a different process for each network. In this thesis, we focus on SAGEFed, a product that enables a user to use the same credentials and commands to reserve the resources on two different federated clouds, i.e., SAVI and GENI. As a part of SAGEFed, the user can acquire or reserve resources on the clouds with the same API. The same service also manages the credentials, so they do not have to manage different credentials while acquiring resources. Furthermore, SAGEFed demonstrates that any cloud that has some form of client tool can be easily integrated. / Graduate

A comparitive performance analysis of GENI control framework aggregates

Tare, Nidhi January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering / Caterina M. Scoglio / Network researchers for a long time have been investigating ways to improve network performance and reliability by devising new protocols, services, and network architectures. For the most part, these innovative ideas are tested through simulations and emulation techniques that though yield credible results; fail to account for realistic Internet measurements values like traffic, capacity, noise, and variable workload, and network failures. Overlay networks, on the other hand have existed for a decade, but they assume the current internet architecture is not suitable for clean-slate network architecture research. Recently, the Global Environment for Network Innovations (GENI) project aims to address this issue by providing an open platform comprising of a suite of highly programmable and shareable network facilities along with its control software. The aim of this report is to introduce GENI’s key architectural concepts, its control frameworks, and how they are used for dynamic resource allocation of computing and networking resources. We mainly discuss about the architectural concepts and design goals of two aggregates, namely the BBN Open Resource Control Architecture of the (BBNORCA) of the ORCA control framework and Great Plains Environment for Network Innovations (GpENI) belonging to the PlanetLab control framework. We then describe the procedure adopted for hardware and software setup of individual aggregates. After giving an overview of the two prototypes, an analysis of the simple experiments that were conducted on each of the aggregates is presented. Based on the study and experimental results, we present a comparative analysis of control framework architectures, their relative merits and demerits, experimentation ease, virtualization technology, and its suitability for a future GENI prototype. We use metrics such as scalability, leasing overhead, oversubscription of resources, and experiment isolation for comparison.

Stig Larsson - litteraturens enfant terrible : En kritisk diskursanalys av mediebilden

Sidén, Pernilla January 2013 (has links)

Sundström, Lars January 2018 (has links)
A Cultural History of Masturbation.

________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The goal of this thesis for a PHD degree is to demonstrate the extent of commitment to afrodescendent ethnicity mainly in the books Ponciá Vicêncio, by Conceição Evaristo, and Leite do Peito, by Geni Guimarães. This study, related to the line of research Representation in Contemporary Literature, was based on the comparison of the theories of gender and narrative theory with several contributions of ethnic studies. It is supported by the following approaches: the contribution of white and black authors in the construction of Black or Afro- Brazilian Literature; the study of the biographical and literary aspects (life, books and writing styles) of Conceição Evaristo and Geni Guimarães; the mixture of afro elements with the ingredients of the selected for the present study narratives; and, finally, the feminist and gender theories, by following the trajectories of the black protagonists Ponciá and Geni and the secondary character Bilisa, from the corpus, in the private and public spaces. We concluded that the authors were writing from the perspective of a black author, committed ethnographically, valuing the visibility of the African Diaspora, and denouncing racial prejudice, which impedes the great dream of a more just and equal society for all.

Space, place, territory, mobility and displacement are, among others, striking contemporary terms that best describe the complex relationship between subject and the environment in which they lives. To displace suggests a physical movement, and also emotional through different geographical areas, often completely strangers, in which the subject needs to seek different conciliation strategies. The turbulences experienced these processes of non belonging inevitably pass through the notion of spacing. The present work investigates the multiple spaces experienced by contemporary subject. These multiple spaces becomes interesting to uncover the conflicting relationship between the “I”, the "other” and the place of “occupation" of these subjects, in addition to issues relating alterity and subalternity marginalized individuals, especially black women. Our approach from the reading of novels Ponciá Vicêncio (2003) and Becos da Memória (2006) of Conceição Evaristo; and A Cor da Ternura (1998), and the book of short stories: Leite do Peito (2001) of Geni Guimarães. We defend idea that writers occupy such a space where writers produce texts that touch feelings inherent to the human being, touching all universal way.

Energy consumption in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector has grown exponentially recently, due to the increasing amount of equipment for data storage and processing. The paradigm of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and OpenFlow architecture are enabling a new range of applications and services for networks. This thesis presents a study that applies SDN technologies in a virtualized environment with the GENI federation (Global Environment for Network Innovation). This paper developed a module in Floodlight controller titled Energy Saving Module employing an algorithm called MiNet (Minimum Network) for the construction of the Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) on the switching components in networks. This study presents three simulations in two network topologies Fat Tree, as it follows, a ten one (FatTree10) and another with twenty switches (FatTree20). In the first simulation, it was performed without the module with the default configuration of Floodlight controller to serve as a comparison with the performance results in the other two simulations. The second, with Module Energy Saver included in the controller, it evaluated the initial costs on the links between switches. In the third, the costs in the connections of the switches were changed to high light that the Energy Savings Module is able to recalculate a new Minimum Spanning Tree on the provided costs and thus adapt the network to a new update situation. Through the performed simulations, considering only the links between switches, as it is, forty Ethernet ports for smaller topology and eighty Ethernet ports for wide topology, according to the achieved results, the embedded module Floodlight reduced the final energy consumption to 35% FatTree10 topology and 32.5% FatTree20 topology.

Peer-to-Peer Based Trading and File Distribution for Cloud Computing

Yi, Ping 01 January 2014 (has links)
In this dissertation we take a peer-to-peer approach to deal with two specific issues, fair trading and file distribution, arisen from data management for cloud computing. In mobile cloud computing environment cloud providers may collaborate with each other and essentially organize some dedicated resources as a peer to peer sharing system. One well-known problem in such peer to peer systems with exchange of resources is free riding. Providing incentives for peers to contribute to the system is an important issue in peer to peer systems. We design a reputation-based fair trading mechanism that favors peers with higher reputation. Based on the definition of the reputation used in the system, we derive a fair trading policy. We evaluate the performance of reputation-based trading mechanisms and highlight the scenarios in which they can make a difference. Distribution of data to the resources within a cloud or to different collaborating clouds efficiently is another issue in cloud computing. The delivery efficiency is dependent on the characteristics of the network links available among these network nodes and the mechanism that takes advantage of them. Our study is based on the Global Environment for Network Innovations (GENI), a testbed for researchers to build a virtual laboratory at scale to explore future Internets. Our study consists of two parts. First, we characterize the links in the GENI network. Even though GENI has been used in many research and education projects, there is no systematic study about what we can expect from the GENI testbeds from a performance perspective. The goal is to characterize the links of the GENI networks and provide guidance for GENI experiments. Second, we propose a peer to peer approach to file distribution for cloud computing. We develop a mechanism that uses multiple delivery trees as the distribution structure, which takes into consideration the measured performance information in the GENI network. Files are divided into chunks to improve parallelism among different delivery trees. With a strict scheduling mechanism for each chunk, we can reduce the overall time for getting the file to all relevant nodes. We evaluate the proposed mechanism and show that our mechanism can significantly reduce the overall delivery time.

GENI in the cloud

Yuen, Marco 20 July 2010 (has links)
Computer networking researchers often have access to a few different network testbeds (Section 1.2) for their experiments. However, those testbeds are limited in resources; contentions for resources are prominent in those testbeds especially when conference deadline is looming. Moreover, services running on those testbeds are subject to seasonal and daily tra c spikes from users all round the world. Hence, demand for resources at the testbeds are high. Some researchers can use other testbeds in conjunction with the ones they are using. Even though each of the testbeds may have different infrastructures, and characteristics, in the end, what the researchers receive in return is a set of computing resources, either virtual machines or physical machines. Essentially, those testbeds are providing a similar service, but researchers have to manage the credentials for accessing the testbeds manually, and they have to manually request resources from different testbeds in order to setup experiments that span across different testbeds. This thesis presents GENICloud, a project that enables the federation of testbeds with clouds. Computing and storage resources can be provisioned to researchers and services running on existing testbeds dynamically from an Eucalyptus cloud. As a part of the GENICloud project, the user proxy (Section 3.4) provides a less arduous method for testbeds administrators to federate with other testbeds; the same service also manages researchers credentials, so they do not have to acquire resources from each testbed individually. The user proxy provides a single interface for researchers to interact with di erent testbeds and clouds and manage their experiments. Furthermore, GENICloud demonstrates that there are, in fact, quite a few architectural similarities between different testbeds and even clouds.
