This report deals with switched reluctance motor by offering design solutions to the drawbacks of torque ripples and radial forces in the same time. Torque ripples reduce the user comfort and radial forces are the origin of noise. In the first part, an axial structure characterized by low radial force is analysed. Indeed, an axial configuration with two stators and one rotor is the most appropriate to replace the reference radial machine. Ones the rules of passage from one structure to another are established, the axial structure is then compared to the reference one. A first passage is made by keeping the same volume and a second one by sizing the axial machine with the same specifications as the radial one. In the second part, the work concerns the modification of radial structure of the reference machine and its optimization. Several modifications are proposed including a structure with a magnetic wedge which is the most efficient. Geometric optimization using genetic algorithm are then performed on operating points to remedy the both problems. In the end, several optimized structures are proposed. The choice of the most suitable machine can be done by making a compromise between the torque maximization, reducing its ripples and reducing radial forces.

Interfaces between materials having opposite dielectric constants support electromagnetic waves confined close to these interfaces called surface waves. For metals and polar crystals, they are respectively called surface plasmon-polaritons and surface phonon-polaritons. The goal of this thesis is to revisit some theoretical aspects associated to these surface waves.Using the Green formalism, we derive an expression of the surface wave field as a sum of modes. With losses, these waves must have a complex wave vector or frequency. Thus we give two expressions of their field, for each of these cases, and discuss when each of these expressions should be used.We then give the basis of a surface wave Fourier optics and geometrical optics. We derive a 2D Helmholtz equation for surface waves, a Huygens-Fresnel principle for surface waves, and an eikonal equation for surface waves. We then take a look at Pendry’s superlens, in which surface waves play a major role. We study the behavior of the superlens in pulsed mode taking losses into account, and show that its resolution can be increased for some pulse shapes compared to the steady state, at the expense of a signal decay. We then develop a quantum treatment of surface waves. We first calculate their energy, and then give an expression of their hamiltonian and field operators. Without losses, we show that the Purcell factor given by our quantum theory is perfectly equal to the Purcell factor given by the classical theory. We then compare this Purcell factor to the lossy case on an example, and show that losses can often be neglected. We then derive the Einstein coefficients associated to surface wave emission and absorption, which allow studying the population inversion dynamics of a gain medium. We then use this quantum formalism to study the interaction between electrons and surface phonon-polaritons in quantum wells, particularly their interaction with a phonon mode which features high confinement thanks to an epsilon near zero (ENZ) effect.

In the present study, effects of surface liming on: chemical attributes, soil-radiation interaction properties and the structure (porous system) of a Dystrudept soil were investigated. The soil structure was analyzed in micrometric scale, considering monoliths (8×8×8 cm) and tiny aggregates (2-4 and 1-2 mm in diameter). The trial consisted of five stripes, one of them under pasture, considered here as reference (REF), representing the soil conditions before the no-till system (NTS) implementation, and the remaining, under NTS, received the following lime rates: 0 (C0), 10 (C10), 15 (C15) and 20 (C20) t ha-1 on the soil surface. Samples were collected thirty months after the liming procedure, at the 0-10 cm (A) and 10-20 cm (B) soil layers. The soil chemical attributes were characterized according to standard experimental procedures and the soil oxide composition, obtained by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), was used for the calculation of the soil mass attenuation coefficient (μm), by means of the computer code XCOM, for the energies of ≈ 60 keV (241Am) amd ≈ 662 keV (137Cs). The μm values were used to calculate the remaining soil-radiation interaction properties and to simulate variations caused on soil density (D) and total porosity (Pt). For the soil structure analysis, 3D images of X-ray computed microtomography (μCT), with spatial resolution of 60 μm (monoliths), and 3D images of synchrotron radiation based X-ray computed microtomography (SR-μCT), with spatial resolution of 1,64 μm (aggregates) were used. The image visualization, processing and analysis were performed in the Avizo Fire software. The following micromorphological and geometrical properties were determined: image-based porosity (P’), number of pores (NP), distributions of P’ and NP as function of volume intervals, length, elongation, shape, connectivity, and tortuosity of pores (monoliths); and: P’, distributions of P’ and NP as function of volume intervals, connectivity, tortuosity, and fractal dimension (aggregates). Additionally, the elemental composition of the soil aggregates was evaluated by XRF. In the majority of cases, liming effects were concentrated at layer A, where there was an improvement of soil chemical attributes and, therefore, of soil acidity level, as well as there was an increase in the soil-radiation interaction properties as function of lime rates. The increase in soil-radiation interaction properties was more accentuated for the energy of ≈ 60 keV in relation to ≈ 662 keV and, in the former case, the μm variation promoted considerable variation in D and Pt, demonstrating the relevance of the study. Highlighted instances of liming effects on the porous system of the soil monoliths, at layer A, were an increase in P’ and in the number of pores into which the main soil pore was separated, which were identified as being longer and more connected due to liming. Moreover, liming promoted changes in the arrangement of the separated pores, at both soil layers, with the formation of cylindrical pores in the horizontal orientation, which can be attributed to stimulation of the soil fauna activity. Regarding the soil aggregates, at layer A, calcium was raised to a higher percentage in aggregates of 1-2 mm when compared to those of 2-4 mm, as function of the lime rates. Liming affected negatively the structure of the soil tiny aggregates, decreasing P’ and increasing the tortuosity of pores for 1-2 mm aggregates. Besides, liming decreased the fractal dimension in aggregates from both size classes, in accord to the fact that, with liming, larger pores were replaced by smaller ones in 1-2 mm aggregates, as both quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed.

Vibrations hydroélastiques de réservoirs élastiques couplés à un fluide interne incompressible à surface libre autour d’un état précontraint / Hydroelastic vibrations of elastics tanks containing an incompressible free-surface fluide around a prestressed stateHoareau, Christophe 16 July 2019 (has links)
This doctoral thesis focuses on the calculation by the finite element method of the dynamic behavior of prestressed elastic tanks containing an internal liquid with a free surface. We consider that the hydrostatic pressure exerted by the incompressible internal fluid on the flexible walls of the tank causes large displacements, thus leading to a geometric non-linear equilibrium state. The change of stiffness related to this prestressed state induces a shift in the resonance frequencies of the coupled linear vibration problem. The main objective of the work is therefore to estimate, through precise and efficient numerical approaches, the influence of geometric nonlinearities on the hydroelastic behavior of the reservoir/internal liquid system around different equilibrium configurations. The methodology developed is carried out in two stages. The first one consists in calculating the non-linear static state by a total Lagrangian finite element approach. The action of the fluid on the structure is modelled here by hydrostatic following forces. The second step is the calculation of linearized coupled vibrations. In particular, an original reduced order model is proposed to limit the calculation costs associated with the estimation of the added mass effect. Finally, various examples are proposed and compared with results from the literature (from numerical simulations or experimental tests) to show the effectiveness and validity of the different numerical approaches developed in this work.

Bewertung, Verarbeitung und segmentbasierte Auswertung sehr hoch auflösender Satellitenbilddaten vor dem Hintergrund landschaftsplanerischer und landschaftsökologischer Anwendungen / Evaluation, processing and segment-based analysis of very high resolution satellite imagery against the background of applications in landscape planning and landscape ecologyNeubert, Marco 03 March 2006 (has links) (PDF)
In recent years remote sensing has been characterised by dramatic changes. This is reflected especially by the highly increased geometrical resolution of imaging sensors and as a consequence thereof by the developments in processing and analysis methods. Very high resolution satellite imagery (VHR) - defined by a resolution between 0.5 and 1 m - exists since the start of IKONOS at the end of 1999. At about the same time extreme high resolution digital airborne sensors (0.1 till 0.5 m) have been developed. The basis of investigation for this dissertation is IKONOS imagery with a resolution of one meter (panchromatic) respectively four meters (multispectral). Due to the characteristics of such high resolution data (e.g. level of detail, high spectral variability, amount of data) the use of previously available standard methods of image processing is limited. The results of the procedures tested within this work demonstrate that the development of methods and software was not able to keep up with the technical innovations. Some procedures are only gradually becoming suitable for VHR data (e.g. atmospheric-topographic correction). Additionally, this work shows that VHR imagery can be analysed only inadequately using traditional pixel-based statistical classifiers. The herein researched application of image segmentation methods helps to overcome drawbacks of pixel-wise procedures. This is demonstrated by a comparison of pixel and segment-based classification. Within a segmentaion, homogeneous image areas are merged into regions which are the basis for the subsequent classification. For this purpose, in addition to spectral features also formal, textural and contextual properties are available. Furthermore, the applied software eCognition allows the definition of the features for classification based on fuzzy logic in a knowledge base (decision tree). An evaluation of different, currently available segmentation approaches illustrates that a high segmentation quality is achievable with the used software. The increasing demand for geospatial base data offers an important field of application for VHR remote sensing data. With a targeted classification of the imagery the creation of working bases for the herein considered usage for landscape planning and landscape ecology is possible. The given examples of landscape analyses using a segment-based processsing of IKONOS data show an achievable classification accuracy of 90 % and more. The landscape units delineated by image segmentation could be used for the calculation of landscape metrics. National aims of nature conservation as well as international agreements constrain a continuous survey of the landscape inventory and the monitoring of its changes. Remote sensing imagery can support the establishment of automated and operational methods in this field. The example of biotope and land use type mapping illustrates the possibility to detect land use units with a high precision. Depending on the analysis method and the data characteristics the quality of the results is not fully equivalent to the user?s demands at the moment, especially concerning the achievable depth of classification. The quality of the results can be enhanced by using additional thematic data (e.g. GIS data, object elevation models). To summarize this dissertation underlines the trend towards very high resolution digital earth observation. Thus, for a wide use of this kind of data it is essentially to further develop automated and operationally useable processing and analysis methods.

Obosnovanie parametrov kovšej zemlečerpatel'nych snarjadov dlja glubokovodnoj dobyči organo-mineral'nych osadkov / Bucket tool design for mining deep-sea organic-mineral sedimentsShepel, Taras 21 April 2015 (has links) (PDF)
The thesis is devoted to determining the parameters of the bucket to increase productivity of dredgers while mining deep-water organic-mineral sediments. It was achieved by increasing the fill factor through determining the rational geometrical parameters of the bucket. Analytical dependencies of the rational height and length of the bucket on the cutting parameters and physical-and-mechanical properties of the excavated sediments were determined. Expressions for defining forces while digging plasticity water-saturated soils were developed. Experimental investigations of the process of digging deep-water organic-mineral sediments in laboratory conditions and in the real conditions of operating single-bucket dredger in the Black Sea at the depth of 1885 m were carried out. The technique for calculation of the bucket\'s parameters was developed.

Phthalocyanines on Surfaces : Monolayers, Films and Alkali Modified StructuresNilson, Katharina January 2007 (has links)
The Phthalocyanines (Pc’s) are a group of macro-cyclic molecules, widely investigated due to the possibility to use them in a variety of applications. Electronic and geometrical structure investigations of molecular model systems of Pc’s adsorbed on surfaces are important for a deeper understanding of the functionality of different Pc-based devices. Here, Pc’s monolayers and films, deposited on different surfaces, were investigated by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM). In addition Density Functional Theory (DFT) simulations were performed. For molecular films of Metal-free (H2Pc) and Iron (FePc) Pc’s, on surfaces, it is found that the intermolecular interaction is weak and the molecules arrange with their molecular plane mainly perpendicular to the surface. Several monolayer systems were characterized, namely H2Pc and FePc adsorbed on Graphite, ZnPc on InSb(001)-c(8x2), H2Pc on Al(110) and on Au(111). For all the studied monolayers it was found that the molecules are oriented with their molecular plane parallel to the surface. The electronic structure of the molecules is differently influenced by interaction with the surfaces. For H2Pc adsorbed on Graphite the nearly negligible effect of the surface on the molecular electronic structure allowed STM characterization of different molecular orbitals. A strong interaction is instead found in the case of H2Pc on Al(110) resulting in molecules strongly adsorbed, and partly dissociated. Modifications of the electronic and geometrical structure induced by alkali doping of H2Pc films and monolayers were characterized. It is found both for the H2Pc film on Al(110) and monolayer adsorbed on Au(111), that the molecular arrangement is changed upon doping by Potassium and Rubidium, respectively. Potassium doping of the H2Pc films results in a filling of previously empty molecular orbitals by a charge transfer from the alkali to the molecule, with significant modification of the molecular electronic structure.

Μέτρηση γεωμετρικών χαρακτηριστικών και αναλογίας μεγεθών ερυθρών αιμοσφαιρίων με ψηφιακή επεξεργασία της σκεδαζόμενης ηλεκτρομαγνητικής ακτινοβολίας / Estimation of geometrical properties of human red blood cells using light scattering imagesΑποστολόπουλος, Γεώργιος 19 January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this PhD thesis is the development of digital image processing and pattern recognition methods to estimate biometric and diagnostic parameters using scattering phenomena in the visible and infrared spectrum. More concretely, several reverse scattering problems of EM radiation from a human, healthy and undistorted Red Blood Cell (RBC) is solved.
Methods of estimation and recognition of geometrical characteristics of healthy and undistorted RBCs using simulating images are presented. The information retrieval process includes, features extraction using two-dimensional integral transforms, features normalization, and Neural Networks for estimation of three major RBC geometrical proper-ties. Using the same features set, a recognition system of the geometric characteristics of RBCs was developed and evaluated.
The scattering images were created simulating the forward scattering problem of a plane electromagnetic wave using the Boundary Element Method, taking into account both axisymmetric geometry of the scatterer and the non-axisymmetric boundary conditions of the problem. Initially, the problem is solved at 632.8 nm and consequently the same problem was solved at 12 different wavelengths, from 432.8 to 1032.8 nm equally spaced. Also, a new device for acquisition of scattering images from RBCs-flow, consisting of a multi-color light source (Led) was proposed, for RBC size estimation and recognition.
Finally, a system for the estimation of different RBCs concentration was developed when scattering images acquired using multiple scattering images acquired from multiple Leds and color filters. The system was evaluated using additive white regular noise.

Como potencializar o ensino-aprendizagem de conceitos introdutórios de óptica geométrica no ensino médio mediante algumas telas de Joseph Wright e a plataforma de mídia social educativa Edmodo / How to enhance learning concepts of geometric optics on high school by some Joseph Wright’s screens and Edmodo’s social media educational platformCosta, Kelly Carla Perez da 15 April 2016 (has links)
This thesis investigated the understanding of introductory concepts of Optics mediated by a social media platform - Edmodo - and using the viewing screen of the english painter Joseph Wright (1734-1797). In the XVIII century in England, marked by the Industrial Revolution and the Enlightenment, the physical, chemical and biological sciences had a great development. It is in this context that Joseph Wright produces a number of night scenes paintings representing scientific and industrial issues. Some of his works were used to enter the Optics in classes of 2nd year of high school to two state schools of Paraná. The teaching of Physics currently requires the use of ICT and Edmodo, which is an educational social media platform, was chosen to mediate Art and Physics. Three activities are proposed: description of Joseph Wright screens, questionnaire on the historical context and contextual photographs. The research approach was qualitative and methodological procedures according to action research. Data collection consisted of systematic observation of activities performed, participation in the platform and interactions caused by this practice and also on participant observation in the presentation of photographs by students. It was concluded that all Art, History and Optics, can enhance the teaching optics concepts. Considering the complexity of the elements involved in the research - Joseph Wright’s screens and Edmodo - dialogical approach in practice has shown that student groups are potentially collaborative when these new elements are introduced along with the contents of the subject. However, a longer time for this setting with the chosen ICT is necessary to stimulate and expand the collaborative learning.
