台灣銀行業放款型態對放款品質之影響 / Effect of bnking sector's loan type on loan quality in Taiwan

本文以2000年至2009年計22家台灣商業銀行之追蹤資料(panel data),並利用雙因子固定效果模型(two-factor fixed-effects model)探討不同放款之成長對逾期放款比率(逾期放款/放款總額)與轉銷呆帳率(轉銷呆帳/放款總額)之影響效果。 一般而言,金融主管機關以逾期放款比率為代表銀行資產品質之指標,然而銀行或為達成業績目標,或為符合主管機關之監理要求,往往追求短期成長而忽視風險控制,在初期因放款基礎擴大反而造成逾期放款比率下降的資產品質改善假象,之後卻面臨資產品質惡化須大幅轉銷呆帳或出售不良債權而侵蝕銀行獲利及資本,因此除逾期放款比率外,本文另納入轉銷呆帳率為衡量放款品質之指標,以確實瞭解銀行信用擴張對資產品質之影響,提供金融主管機關及銀行業者在未來相關政策上之參考。 研究結果顯示,民營企業放款成長率、消費者放款成長率及資本適足率對逾期放款比率有顯著負向影響,無擔保消費者放款成長率、前期逾期放款比率及淨值比率對轉銷呆帳率有顯著正向影響,總放款成長率、中小企業放款成長率及消費者放款成長率對轉銷呆帳率有顯著負向影響。 / This paper studies 22 banks from Taiwan during the 2000-2009 period. The panel data regression is used to analyze the different loan growth influencing non-performing loan (NPL) and charge-off ratios of Taiwan’s commercial banks. In general,the authority use non-performing loan (NPL) ratio to represent the quality of bank assets.But for performance or in compliance with the authority's request,banks may pursue loan growth in the short term and ignore the risk.In the beginning, NPL ratios decrease and then banks face deterioration in assets quality.Except NPL ratio, this paper adds charge-off ratio to analyze the effect of different loan growth on assets quality. Our major findings are as follows:(1) The effects of private enterprises loan growth rate, consumer loan growth rate and capital adequacy ratio on NPL ratio are significantly negative. (2) The effects of non-residential consumer loan growth rate,NPL ratio of the previous period and equity ratio on charge-off ratio are significantly positive. (3) The effects of total loan growth rate,small and medium enterprises loan growth rate and consumer loan growth rate on charge-off ratio are significantly negative.

Impact of glucose uptake rate on recombinant protein production in Escherichia coli

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is an attractive host for production of recombinant proteins, since it generally provides a rapid and economical means to achieve high product quantities. In this thesis, the impact of the glucose uptake rate on the production of recombinant proteins was studied, aiming at improving and optimising production of recombinant proteins in E. coli. E. coli can be cultivated to high cell densities in bioreactors by applying the fed-batch technique, which offers a means to control the glucose uptake rate. One objective of this study was to find a method for control of the glucose uptake rate in small-scale cultivation, such as microtitre plates and shake flasks. Strains with mutations in the phosphotransferase system (PTS) where used for this purpose. The mutants had lower uptake rates of glucose, resulting in lower growth rates and lower accumulation of acetic acid in comparison to the wild type. By using the mutants in batch cultivations, the formation of acetic acid to levels detrimental to cell growth could be avoided, and ten times higher cell density was reached. Thus, the use of the mutant strains represent a novel, simple alternative to fed-batch cultures.   The PTS mutants were applied for production of integral membrane proteins in order to investigate if the reduced glucose uptake rate of the mutants was beneficial for their production. The mutants were able to produce three out of five integral membrane proteins that were not possible to produce by the wild-type strain. The expression level of one selected membrane protein was increased when using the mutants and the expression level appeared to be a function of strain, glucose uptake rate and acetic acid accumulation. For production purposes, it is not uncommon that the recombinant proteins are secreted to the E. coli periplasm. However, one drawback with secretion is the undesired leakage of periplasmic products to the medium. The leakage of the product to the medium was studied as a function of the feed rate of glucose in fed-batch cultivations and they were found to correlate. It was also shown that the amount of outer membrane proteins was affected by the feed rate of glucose and by secretion of a recombinant product to the periplasm. The cell surface is another compartment where recombinant proteins can be expressed. Surface display of proteins is a potentially attractive production strategy since it offers a simple purification scheme and possibilities for on-cell protein characterisation, and may in some cases also be the only viable option. The AIDA-autotransporter was applied for surface display of the Z domain of staphylococcal protein A under control of the aidA promoter. Z was expressed in an active form and was accessible to the medium. Expression was favoured by growth in minimal medium and it seemed likely that expression was higher at higher feed rates of glucose during fed-batch cultivation. Analytical tools for monitoring and control of fermentation processes

The overall objective of this work has been to adopt new developments and techniques in the area of measurement, modelling and control of fermentation processes. Flow cytometry and software sensors are techniques which were considered ready for application and the focus was set on developing tools for research aiming at understanding the relationship between measured variables and process quality parameters. In this study fed-batch cultivations have been performed with two different strains of Escherichia coli (E.coli) K12 W3110 with and without a gene for the recombinant protein promegapoietin. Inclusion body formation was followed during the process with flow cytometric detection by labelling the inclusion bodies with first an antibody against the protein promegapoietin and then a second fluorescent anti-antibody. The approach to label inclusion bodies directly in disintegrated and diluted cell slurry could be adopted as a method to follow protein production during the process, although the labelling procedure with incubation times and washings was somewhat time-consuming (1.5 h). The labelling of inclusion bodies inside the cells to follow protein production was feasible to perform, although an unexplained decrease in the relative fluorescence intensity occurred late in process. However, it is difficult to translate this qualitative measurement into a quantitative one, since a quantitative protein analysis should give data proportional to the volume, while the labelling of the spheric inclusion bodies gives a signal corresponding to the area of the body, and calibration is not possible. The methods were shown to be useful for monitoring inclusion body formation, but it seems difficult to get quantitative information from the analysis. Population heterogeneity analysis was performed, by using flow cytometry, on a cell population, which lost 80-90% viability according to viable count analysis. It was possible to show that the apparent cell death was due to cells incapable of dividing on agar plates after induction. These cells continued to produce the induced recombinant protein. It was shown that almost all cells in the population (≈97%) contained PMP, and furthermore total protein analysis of the medium indicated that only about 1% of the population had lysed. This confirms that the "non-viable" cells according to viable count by cfu analysis produced product. The software sensors XNH3 and µNH3, which utilises base titration data to estimate biomass and specific growth rate was shown to correlate well with the off-line analyses during cultivation of E. coli W3110 using minimal medium. In rich medium the µNH3 sensor was shown to give a signal that may be used as a fingerprint of the process, at least from the time of induction. The software sensor KLaC* was shown to respond to foaming in culture that probably was caused by increased air bubble dispersion. The RO/S coefficient, which describes the oxygen to substrate consumption, was shown to give a distinct response to stress caused by lowered pH and addition of the inducing agent IPTG. The software sensor for biomass was applied to a highly automated 6-unit multi-bioreactor system intended for fast process development. In this way also specific rates of substrate and oxygen consumption became available without manual sampling. / QC 20100819

Dynamics of Cyclic and Linear Poly(oxyethylene) and Threading Conformation in Their Blends

Chemically identical but topologically different cyclic and linear polymers not only result in marked differences in dynamics, but also lead to unique transport properties of their blends, where cyclic polymers have chances to be threaded onto the linear polymers. This dissertation addresses the effect of ring architecture on dynamics using different time/length scale techniques: self-diffusion coefficients, NMR spin-spin relaxation time (T2) and bulk viscosity. In deuterated water, synthesized cyclic poly(oxyethylene) (CPOE) (400-1500 g/mol) diffused faster than corresponding linear POE (LPOE) and linear POE dimethyl ether (LPOEDE). However, the self-diffusion coefficients in melts were arranged in the following manner: LPOEDE > CPOE > LPOE, in excellent agreement with T2 and viscosity data, showing topological and chain end effects. Compared to LPOEDE, both CPOE and LPOE had higher activation energies for viscosity with less dependence on the molecular weight. In the blends of CPOE and LPOE for 900 and 1500 g/mol, the diffusion coefficient and viscosity in melts were higher and lower than the values predicted by a binary mixing rule, respectively. These deviations were attributed to the threading conformation, and the weight fraction of the threaded chains for 1500 g/mol was estimated by a three-term mixing rule. This threading conformation also appeared to influence such important bulk properties as the glass transition and spherulitic growth rate of the blends.

Στην παρούσα εργασία μελετάται πειραματικά η ανάπτυξη μεμβρανών πορώδους αλουμίνας με ελεγχόμενο πάχος, διάμετρο πόρου, σε ηλεκτρολύτη οξαλικού οξέος συγκεντρώσεως 0.3Μ με εφαρμοζόμενη τάση 40V και 50V. Για την κατανόηση του μηχανισμού της δημιουργίας των μεμβρανών πορώδους αλουμίνας γίνεται μια βιβλιογραφική παρουσίαση των μοντέλων ανάπτυξης της. Από τα πειράματα προκύπτει ότι ο ρυθμός ανάπτυξης του πάχους της μεμβράνης ακολουθεί τον νόμο του Faraday με απόδοση που εξαρτάται από την τάση ανοδίωσης. Τέλος υπολογίζεται η ενέργεια ενεργοποίησης για την αντίδραση του σχηματισμού της πορώδους αλουμίνας. Η ενέργεια ενεργοποίησης που αφορά την αντίδραση του αλουμινίου με τον ηλεκτρολύτη. / Ιn the present study, the synthesis of porous alumina membranes with controlled thickness and pore diameter is investigated. More specifically, the experimental condition under study was oxalic acid 0.3M under an applied voltage of 40V and 50V. In order to understand the growth mechanism of the porous alumina membrane formation, a bibliographic view of the growth models is presented. The experiments result in the conclusion that the thickness growth rate of the porous alumina membrane obeys the Faraday law for electrolysis with an efficiency being dependent on the anodization applied voltage. Finally, the activation energy for the porous alumina formation concerning the reaction of aluminum with the electrolyte, is calculated.

Antinutritional factors in modeling plant-based rainbow trout diets

The effect of inclusion rate of pea meal (PM), pea protein concentrate (PPC), soybean meal (SBM), soy protein concentrate (SPC), canola meal (CM) and canola protein concentrate (CPC) in salmonid diets was determined through six corresponding meta-analyses of all data available in the literature for these six feed ingredients, which was followed by weighted regression analysis. Increasing dietary inclusion levels of SBM, SPC, CM and CPC reduced specific growth rate (SGR). Regression analysis determined all of these relationships to be linear declines in SGR (P < 0.05). Inclusion levels of PM or PPC did not influence salmonid SGR (P > 0.05). These results showed that the influence plant proteins have on salmonid SGR is dependent on ingredient type and inclusion level. PM, PPC, SBM, SPC, CM an aqueous-extracted CPC and a high phytate CPC (PCPC) were analyzed for chemical nutrient (proximate, amino acid and phosphorus analysis) and antinutrient composition and total tract digestibility (two separate digestibility trials) in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The digestibility of proximate chemical components and amino acids were significantly higher for the soy products than the pea products. These digestibilities were also significantly higher in protein concentrates than in plant meals. Dry matter and gross energy digestibility was higher in CPC than in CM (P < 0.05). Phosphorus digestibility was higher in CPC-fed fish than in CM-fed fish (P < 0.05), which is likely due to the fact that CPC did not contain phytic acid. Six consecutive growth studies (one trial per test ingredient) were conducted over a 361-day period to determine the effects of feeding increasing inclusion rates of PM, PPC, SBM, SPC, CM and CPC on the growth performance of rainbow trout. Diets were formulated based on the digestible nutrient content of all ingredients as determined in the previously conducted digestibility trials, to contain 0, 75, 150, 225 or 300 g/kg of each test ingredient. All diets were nutritionally equal and contained 17.6 MJ/kg digestible energy, 386.2 g/kg digestible crude protein and were balanced for digestible essential amino acids to meet or exceed the requirements of rainbow trout. Linear and quadratic analysis was conducted on the experimental data. There were no significant regressions resulting from feeding PM, SPC or CPC at 0-300 g/kg for average daily feed intake (ADFI), specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR) or protein efficiency ratio (PER). A positive relationship was associated between PPC inclusion and ADFI (P < 0.05). There was a significantly negative quadratic equation associated with the inclusion level of SBM on SGR and FCR and significantly negative linear and quadratic equations for PER. There were significantly negative linear relationships between the inclusion rate of CM and the SGR, FCR and PER of rainbow trout (P < 0.05). Growth trial results suggest at inclusion levels up to 300 g/kg, PM, PPC, SPC and CPC are feasible plant-based fish meal replacements with predictable growth effects, provided the nutritional constraints set in this experiment are followed. The results of these growth experiments were further analyzed using structural equation modeling to determine the relationship between ANF in the six ingredients and ADFI and SGR, which were transformed (tSGR and tADFI, respectively) to enable comparisons between experiments. All possible models between ingredient ANF (starch, phytic acid, glucosinolates, tannins, isoflavones, total NSP, soluble NSP, insoluble NSP and saponins) and ADFI and SGR were calculated. The model with the highest likelihood, as determined by the Akaike Information Criteria0, contained 29 parameters and six degrees of freedom. tADFI positively influenced tSGR. Glucosinolates, saponins, and phytates had a significantly negative impact on tADFI, whereas tannins had a significantly positive impact. The presence of saponins in the diet resulted in a decrease in tSGR. This structural equation model had significant correlations between all ANF, with the exception of phytates and saponins. Future applications of this work will be to develop a nutritional model for optimal inclusion of plant-based feed ingredients in rainbow trout diets, based on their ANF content, which may improve the accuracy of diet formulation and growth prediction.

INFLUENCE OF TEMPERATURE AND STRESS RATIO ON FATIGUE AND FRACTURE RESPONSE OF HPDC AM60B MAGNESIUM ALLOY

The mechanical behavior of a high pressure die cast AM60B Mg alloy is studied. Constant load amplitude fatigue tests were conducted at room, elevated and cold temperatures, with a stress ratio of R=0.1, and frequency of 30 Hz. The objective was to identify the possible effects of temperature on fatigue life cycle. In addition, fatigue crack propagation tests were conducted to ascertain the fatigue response of the alloy and determine its fatigue crack growth rate as a function of the applied stress ratio, experimentally, analytically and computationally, using Walker’s model. The results demonstrated that temperature had a significant influence on the fatigue life, and that the life increased at cold temperature but decreased at elevated temperature as compared to that evaluated at room temperature. In this study, the limit for applicability of LEFM was established for AM60B magnesium alloy. In addition, fatigue crack propagation test results were used to evaluate the coefficients of the Paris model.

Crack Growth Rate and Crack Path in Adhesively Bonded Joints: Comparison of Creep, Fatigue and Fracture

The relationship between crack path and test method was examined by comparing the performance of adhesive-adherend combinations (six) in quasi-static fracture, mixed-mode fatigue, and creep crack growth. Crack paths in creep and quasi-static fracture were similar due to similar crack-tip plastic zone sizes in the epoxy adhesive even though the crack growth rates in creep were much smaller. Under condensed moisture and mixed-mode, creep and threshold fatigue tests produced interfacial failure. Under room-temperature dry environment, near threshold mixed-mode fatigue was interfacial, but was not in creep or quasi-static fracture. Smaller plastic zone size and crack path proximity to the interface that followed increased the sensitivity of near threshold, mixed-mode fatigue to surface properties. Therefore, the interfacial or cohesive failure of an adhesive system, which may judge the quality of the bond, can be a function of the test being conducted and may not be an absolute indicator of joint quality.
