A study of the employers attitudes towards matters stipulated in section 84 of the labour relations act no 66 of 1995 and how those relate to the objectives of the Bargaining Council for hairdressing trade, Cape Peninsula

Barends, Keith January 2010 (has links)
Magister Philosophiae - MPhil / The research conducted has been undertaken to engage the stakeholders to explore the possibility of establishing workplace forums. The gains of workplace forums with respect to sharing decision making is a distinct advantage both business and labour seemingly do not realise because of a continued resolve to negotiate conditions of service annually exclusively. The research was undertaken by designing an interview questionnaire for distribution. The population for this research includes a cross section of employers from the industry in the Western Cape, parties to the Hairdressing Beauty and Cosmetology Bargaining Council, the Employers Organisation and the Employees Organisation or Trade Union. The criteria set for the questionnaire anticipate responses of respondents to the challenges before and after the possible incorporation of section 84 of the Act Finally the research results indicate that the parties to a collective agreement in this industry still gravitate towards distributive collective bargaining by negotiating salaries, wages and conditions of employment in Bargaining Councils. / South Africa

Unknown Date (has links)
Abstract When hairdressing service industry was flourishing in Taiwan, many firms started to transform from individual studios or family-run businesses to chain operation. However, since 2000, market saturation and high competition have caused major hairdressing chains to show signs of stagnation, and even recession, and many of them have started to enter the Chinese market in recent years. This research analyzes how foreign hairdressing chains entered Shanghai by three steps: first evaluate the impact of environment on the operations of foreign hairdressing chains and their STPs; second, how these chains utilize their marketing mixes; and third, how have them performed in the market. By looking into three chains, the study finds that: (1) For the choice of target market and business models, they tend to be influenced by their successful business models in Taiwan, and thus they adopted 70% of their operational approaches in Taiwan to the operations in Shanghai; (2) When their business models appealed to and marched the needs of the market, they would be successful; on the contrary, a mis-match would lead to financial difficulties and even exit the market. Facing a highly competitive market environment, entering a market with appropriate marketing mix (4Ps) often is critical and 4Psand market positioning are highly influenced by the environmental factors. By highlighting the linkages among environment, STP and 4Ps, this research hopes to offer suggestions to foreign hairdressing chains either planning to enter or re-enter Shanghai or other markets in China.

What are the experiences of service workers in urban informal economy workplaces? : a study of informal hairdressing operations in the Johannesburg CBD.

Mpye, Dipalesa Xoliswa 03 October 2013 (has links)
This research study examines the experiences of service workers in the informal economy by exploring informal hairdressing operations within the Johannesburg CBD. Drawing on ethnography at a hairsalon in Braamfontein and semi-‐structured interviews with hairdressers, customers, hairsalon owners and City of Johannesburg officials, it argues that the emotional and affective labour in this kind of work offers hairdressers an important basis for them to weave meaning into their work. The affective relationships that they create through hairdressing present them with the potential for the self-‐constitution of their work and lives.

Déterminants génétiques, nutritionnels et métaboliques de l'asthme professionnel / Genetic, nutritional and metabolic determinants of occupational asthma

Acouetey-Ardoin, Dovi Stéphanie 30 November 2012 (has links)
It is a multifactorial disease involving a large number of risk factors genetic, constitutional, behavioral and environmental. At the genetic level, occupational asthma is a good model for the study of adult asthma and the mechanisms of interaction gene-gene-environment masking or modulating effect of genetic remain to be elucidated. None epidemiological studies on occupational asthma have examined the role of genetic factors in a very early exposure to allergens and airborne irritants. We initially assess the role of genetic polymorphisms related to inflammation and allergy, namely IL4RA, IL13, TNF, IL1A and IL5, on the decline of lung function, bronchial hyperresponsiveness and increasing of exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) in 441 apprentice bakers / pastry-makers and hairdressers (MIBAP study). In this first part we observed interactions between IL13 and IL13 R130Q R130Q/IL4RA S478P / / IL4RA Q551R and decreased forced expiratory volume or forced vital capacity. The GG genotype of TNFA-G308A was found associated with bronchial hyperreactivity in the general population and in non-atopic subjects, we also observed that some gene-gene interactions were associated with a change in the FeNO after two years of training. In a second time, nutritionals determinants of asthma were investigated in a population of young workers employed in these occupations at risk from 3 to 10 years (ABCD study). Intake of vitamins, especially vitamins A, C, E,D, and polyunsaturated fatty acids omega 3 and 6 were studied by frequency questionnaire, the diagnosis of occupational asthma is achieved through a battery of tools (review clinical spirometry and reversibility of bronchial obstruction, FeNO measurement and examination of serum specific IgE). The results on 31 cases of occupational asthma and 196 controls showed a difference in terms of the sector: among bakers, no nutritional factor is objectified, unlike the hairdresser's asthmatics that have higher intakes vitamins A and D. B12 deficiency appears to be a risk factor for onset of occupational asthma regardless of the sector. In contrast, no correlation was found with serum levels of homocysteine and vitamin B9. Through studies in these young people at risk, it appears that the expression of certain risk factors of occupational asthma is flexible, depending on the type of exposure. The emergence of a disease such as occupational asthma involves multiple factors, most of which can be controlled and limited by effective preventive measures

Vilket syfte har APU i frisörutbildningen? : APU varje vecka eller i längre sammanhängande perioder?

Roos, Marianne January 2011 (has links)
This essay is about what purpose the APU has been in hairdressing education and if school should offer APU every week or in longer consecutive periods? The purpose of this study was to examine which of the APU arrangement of the educational purpose is most relevant and why. To gain knowledge and information about what the industry, principal, hairdressing teachers and mentor thought, I have interviewed a number of people. The interviews were qualitative and structured to descriptive answers. In order to get into as much detail as possible, I used a digital tape recorder. The interviews took 20 to 30minutes each. The study showed that most were susceptible to both arrangements. They also had experience of both arrangements,  but when I asked how informants wished how APU should be used, a unanimous response came from the  principal , mentors  and hairdressing teachers. The educational perspective, to build a customer base, says the majority, that the APU continuously every week is preferred. The industry, however, had a different opinion, said that each school / principal decides on the arrangement that benefits them. The decision need not be forever, but it must be evaluated periodically.

A Motivational Journey : A study about the entrepreneur and the changes in motivation from start-up to present

Källviks, Mikaela, Nilsson, Marcus, Karlsson, Marcus January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to identify what motivational changes occur while a lifestyle entrepreneur moves through three different organizational stages. The focus will however be on stage one and three. The problem of an under-researched field is addressed and how the motivation of specific lifestyle entrepreneurs, in these cases hairdressing salon owners, has changed. This thesis has been conducted with an interpretivistic viewpoint, an inductive approach and with a qualitative research method. The authors have selected to analyze the data through pattern matching and dividing the interviewees into two different case studies, one for each of the two chosen organizational stages in focus. In conclusion the authors found that intrinsic and extrinsic motivations have had different effects within all stages in the organizational life cycle. The authors have discovered that during stage one the intrinsic motivations play a large role. During stage one where the organization is small and young the lifestyle entrepreneurs are motivated by factors such as independence and self-efficacy. Stage two is a more extrinsic dominated phase with the factors integrated regulations and identified regulation as motivators. The third stage is a return to the intrinsic motivations with factors such as locus of control and egoistic passion. This is further explained within the chapter with help of the analysis and empirical findings. A figure has been presented to show the different phases and their motivational change.

The power of a "hot" haircut : hair, sexuality, and self at the salon.

Lalonde, Angelique Maria Gabrielle 30 October 2008 (has links)
Hair, as it is fashioned in this research project, is a lens which brings embodiment, if only ephemerally, into a place of expressive focus. This thesis considers, as its subjects of research, women between the ages of 20 and 30 in Victoria, BC, Canada, who purposefully use the hair styling services of a regular stylist to negotiate social anxieties and play with possibilities of identity through the medium of hair. I engage with the concept of embodiment specifically in order to approach current theoretical concerns in anthropology with how commodity culture plays out and is played upon, both materially and ideologically, through the bodies of social actors. Hair is particularly well suited to a theoretical concern with embodiment because it is a biological medium of cultural pliability; it occurs at the interface of a biological entity, upon which it grows, and a cultural being, who styles it.
