Perception Framework for Activities of Daily Living Manipulation Tasks

Balasubramanian, Koushik 28 April 2016 (has links)
There is an increasing concern in tackling the problems faced by the elderly community and physically in-locked people to lead an independent life experience problems with self- care. The need for developing service robots that can help people with mobility impairments is hence very essential. Developing a control framework for shared human-robot autonomy will allow locked-in individuals to perform the Activities of Daily Living (ADL) in a exible way. The relevant ADL scenarios were identi ed as handling objects, self-feeding, and opening doors for indoor nav- igation assistance. Multiple experiments were conducted, which demonstrates that the robot executes these daily living tasks reliably without requiring adjustment to the environment. The indoor manipulation tasks hold the challenge of dealing with a wide range of unknown objects. This thesis presents a framework developed for grasping without requiring a priori knowledge of the objects being manipulated. A successful manipulation task requires the combination of aspects such as envi- ronment modeling, object detection with pose estimation, grasp planning, motion planning followed by an e?cient grasp execution, which is validated by a 6+2 Degree of Freedom robotic manipulator.

Att leva med bipolär sjukdom. / Living with bipolar disorder.

Nilsson, Emelie January 2013 (has links)
Background: Bipolar disorder involves periods of mania and depression, which may cause difficulties for those affected. In order to understand and help those affected, health care providers need to be aware of the subjective experience and coping skills of their clients. Purpose: To examine how people with bipolar disorder experience and handle their illness. Method: A literature review of relevant qualitative articles was conducted. Results: subjects' attitudes towards the diagnosis and treatment varied and the relationship with healthcare professionals was relevant. The disorder was accompanied with feelings of uncertainty, uncontrollability and instability. It also affected self confidence, self-esteem, caused an experience of stigma and relationship difficulties. Coping strategies included acceptance, information, structure of everyday life and family support. Discussion: Antonovskys theory about sense of coherence, SOC, was used for the discussion Acceptance and motivation to treatment are key- topics for health care professionals. Clients lower self- esteem and the issue of stigma needs to be addressed. This might increase the clients SOC and facilitate the move towards a salutogenic perspective. Patient information should be adapted to individual needs. Conclusion: Awareness of individual experiences and skills is necessary. The clients care and treatment needs to be adapted accordingly.

Rullstolshandtag som möjliggör ögonkontakt – ett produktutvecklingsprojekt

Elmertoft, Erika January 2010 (has links)
Dementia is an umbrella term for several symptoms of impaired brain function. The person's behavior is affected when mental functions such as memory, attention, concentration and language are affected and the dementia patient can have difficulties to interpret sensory input. Communication is based a lot on body language. It is therefore important for the caregiver to seek eye contact with the patient in order to simplify communication and it can be of great help to show with the whole body what they mean and be able to point out things. Since people with dementia quickly can forget what happened just now it is common to say that they live in the present. This can lead to feelings of panic, if they can’t understand what is happening or how they got into the situation they now find themselves in. Since people with dementia are perceived to have a tendency to become anxious when transported by wheelchair the purpose of this project was to find a way to allow eye contact between caregivers and patients. By developing such a product the expectation is that their feeling of security will increase. Initial in the project a survey was fulfilled to investigate whether caregivers to dementia patients had experienced the problem that the patients could become worried when they couldn’t see who drove their wheelchairs. One part in the survey considered the nurses' view of a rear-facing wheelchair as a possible solution. With the help of various tools of product development the project resulted in a suggestion of a solution in which a removable push bar, if necessary, can be attached to the wheelchair so the wheelchair can be driven in the opposite direction, with the person with dementia and the driver facing each other. Conclusions that have been made in this project are that there is a need for a product that allows eye contact between a person with dementia and its caregiver. The resolution meets the objective to enable eye contact, next step is to produce a functional prototype that can be user-tested.

Analysis of the Optimal Gripping Location on the Hammer Handle

Kuo, Rong-Ho 10 August 2006 (has links)
This research investigates the influence of the reacting force which suffered from the handle of a hammer to strike an object. To achieve the study purpose, an impulse on the hammer face in a very short time was investigated. The researcher used computer-aided design software Solidworks to set up the hammer model and he used finite element software LS-DYNA to analysis the dynamic problem of the hammer by impulse loading. This study aims to find out the reaction force at the gripping position of different shape of cross-section, length, gripping position and angle of the handle and compares the results along x, y, and z axis respectively. After summing up an optimum handle shape and gripping position, users can operate the tool easily. The optimum also reduces the probability of musculoskeletal disorders. It is expected the study findings can not only provide some reliable data for the reference in hammer manufactures but also make a breakthrough in computing aided engineering.

Modular Locking System to RBS Cabinet

Almqvist, Josefin, Sundelius, Emma January 2013 (has links)
Radio base stations contain equipment which enables the use of cell phones all around the world. ERICSSON is developing these stations and everything connected to the area, such as electronics, software and hardware. In a new project ERICSSON plans to make their hardware modular, to satisfy all their customers around the world even if their preferences differ. The task that was given to us was to develop a modular locking system to the radio base station cabinets. The concept was developed in an integrated working process that focused on a user centered final product. The process included the definition of the problem, preliminary studies of areas which are connected to the problem and a summary of the demands that the customers mediated in a list of requirements. The idea generation generated lots of ideas that later on were developed into different concepts. The concepts were evaluated before the final decision was made together with ERICSSON.The final product is a lifting handle connected to a rod and latch system, which already existed. A new mechanical function was created to make the new handle function with the old system. The locking system is modular and it is possible to choose which way to lock the handle, with a cylinder lock or a padlock. Only one module, the cylinder in the middle, needs to be switched to get the other solution. The other parts are the same; this makes the product modular. The lift handle is an entire new design, developed in the project.

“Är det alldeles säkert att jag aldrig, aldrig mera får se honom?” : En studie av hur död och sorg skildras i tre bilderböcker / “Is it absolutely certain that I’ll never, ever see him again?” : A studie of how death and grief are portrayed in three picture books

Wiezell, Linda January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study has been to investigate how the death of a close relative is described in pictures and texts through the eyes of a child character in three picture books. The analysis has also considered how the child character copes with the tragedy and how he or she finds support in the grief process. The books analysed here are Resan till Ugri-La-Brek (1987), Farväl, Rune (1986), and Jättebra Olga! (2010). Since these are works of fiction, this study does not assume that they are an accurate reflection of reality, but the way the child characters act and cope with their grief has been compared with the findings of empirical research on how children react in real situations. The material has been examined by means of a qualitative literary analysis comparing the books according to the research questions. The study finds that the child characters receive evasive explanations from people around them concerning what death means, for instance that the person is sleeping. A common reaction among the children is to deny what has happened. To find the way out of the grief, the child characters begin by looking for answers to their questions about death, and by thinking of memories of the dead person. According to empirical research, abstract explanations of death should be avoided for children in grief, since this can cause confusion. Everyone will be affected by grief some time during life, and children can ask questions about this uncertain subject. Another aim here has therefore been to consider any possible benefits the books may have for practical application in the classroom when discussing these matters.

Kandidatuppsats i Innovationsteknik :  HUR FÖRÄNDRINGAR, KONFLIKTER OCH INNOVATIONER PÅVERKAR VARANDRA

Stensvad, Sofia, Alkefjärd, Kerstin, Lundell, Anneli January 2010 (has links)
Do conflicts need to be negative? Can a conflict situation make new innovations? The intention of this study is to focus on conflicts that will generate motivation for creative changes. The study is looking for connections between changes, conflicts and innovations. The study addresses co-workers, business managers and students. It contains theories, a minor survey and interviews. It is important to be aware of the different feelings between people in a conflict. Understanding our feelings and understanding how we react as we do in a conflict situation, give us a greater opportunity to create , for instance, new innovations and changes.</p>
