The closure of Brandon Mental Health Centre: a case study and ten-year follow-up of individuals discharged from 1990-1998Carr, Rachel 28 August 2012 (has links)
During the last 50 years, there has been a transfer of care for individuals living with mental disorders from predominately institutional settings to predominately community settings. The purpose of this research was to document the closure of Brandon Mental Health Centre (BMHC) and to look at long-term outcomes for discharged individuals. These objectives were met by interviewing key people involved in the closure and through analysis of administrative data. To support individuals after BMHC closed, new services were developed in four priority areas: adult inpatient and crisis response services, adult rehabilitation and consumer support services, psychogeriatric services, and child and adolescent services. Visits to a general practitioner for a mental disorder by individuals discharged from BMHC decreased significantly over the follow-up period while visits to a psychiatrist increased significantly. Mortality rates, physician visits, and hospital admissions were higher in former BMHC residents than in a matched cohort.

Vårdvalet - Val för alla? : Granskning av fördelningen av vårdcentraler före och efter vårdvalsreformenMorawski, Siri January 2014 (has links)
This master thesis is an analysis of how the amount of health centers per inhabitant has changed since the Swedish government implemented a new health care reform in 2010. The reform implies a free choice of health centers in the Swedish regions and opens up the market for private firms. The purpose of the thesis is to study the effects of the different financing systems toward the health centers in the regions. The models are based on theories of the need of health care. Two of the independent variables which are studied are income and age. The empirical results go hand in hand with the health theories about where there should be a bigger need of health care. The implementation of the new health care reform changed the effect of the independent variables marginally. The conclusion of the thesis is that there should be more studies which take the different financing systems in account and are focusing on if the health care reform is following the guide lines of the health care system of Sweden.

Facility linkages to HIV care and treatment as per entry point at a Norton Health Centre, ZimbabweTungwarara, Nigel Leon 01 1900 (has links)
Effective linkage to HIV care and treatment for all people diagnosed with HIV is crucial if positive treatment outcomes are to be realised. The study used the client records for all those newly diagnosed with HIV through the two entry points for HIV testing between January 2016 and December 2016. The aim of the study was to determine the proportions between the linkages to HIV care and treatment as per entry point for the people diagnosed with HIV at a Norton Health Centre in Zimbabwe. More importantly, the study sought to make recommendations to improve linkage per entry point. This was achieved through determining the proportion of individuals diagnosed with HIV that had documented evidence of linkage to HIV care and treatment by entry point. The study also evaluated the association between the entry point of HIV diagnosis and the linkage to HIV care and treatment.. In total, 239 clients’ records were reviewed who were over the age of 16 years. Overall, 144 (60%) had documented evidence of being linked to HIV care while about 95 (40%) of the client records had no documented evidence of linkage to HIV care. 143(60%) had documented evidence of initiation on antiretroviral therapy (ART) while about 96 (40%) had no documented evidence of initiation on ART. A statistically significant association between entry point for HIV diagnosis and the linkage to HIV care and treatment was demonstrated. A statistically significant higher proportion of females was demonstrated to be linked to HIV care and treatment than for males. The Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) entry point showed higher linkages than OPD and wards entry point. Therefore, there is need to make put measures in place that encourage all clients that are diagnosed with HIV through the various entry points at the health centre to be linked to HIV care and treatment. The study made recommendations based on the findings. It is also recommended that male partners be encouraged to accompany their female expectant partners when attending PMTCT sessions. Youth were found to be lower in terms of linkages and the youth user friendly centre is recommended so as to attract more youths to come for testing. / Health Studies / M.A. (Public Health)

Att stödja föräldrar på Barnavårdscentralen (BVC) : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om BVC-sjuksköterskors erfarenheter / Parenting support at the childhealth centre : A qualitative interview study aboutchild health nurses experiencesÅberg, Cecilia January 2010 (has links)
Becoming a parent is an overwhelming experience. It is important to have support available for those who need it in order for parents to safely meet the needs of their child, and to strengthen the development of their child. The Child Health Nurse has a central role in supporting parents with childen aged 0-6 years. The aim of this study was to describe Child Health Nurses experiences of supporting parents. The method being used was a qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach described by Lundman and Hällgren Graneheim. The data was collected through interviews with four Child Health Nurses. The result shows that the Child Health Nurses experienced that parenting support was something which took place each time they met with the parents. By being there for the family and by strengthening the own resources of the parents, she could support their parenting. A changed society demanded a change in child health care and the conditions given influenced the support available for parents.
