Assemblages collés modèles à base d’adhésifs nanostructurés : interdiffusion entre des copolymères triblocs et une résine époxyde / Bonding model assemblies with nanoscopic-scale-structured adhesive : Interdiffusion between triblock copolymers and epoxy resin

Brethous, Romain 14 November 2013 (has links)
Adhesively bonding technology is of great industrial interest. However, the thermal limited properties of polymers used as adhesive joins limits the operating temperature. To extend the operating temperature range, the Multi Moduli Lap Joint solution has ever been suggested. This solution is an interface with a combination of a low-temperature adhesive LTA (i.e. strengthening for low temperatures) and a high-temperature adhesive HTA (i.e. strengthening for high temperatures), on three joints. Due to its position on each edge of the assembly, the ABT exhibits a great peeling yield, whereas the HTA presents a high shear strength and ensures a structural behaviour. This research aim consists in formulating a new simple lap joint with a gradient of mechanical properties along the bondline. The adhesive formulation has to exhibit a high toughness on its edges which gradually diminishes towards its center. So triblock copolymers are blend into an epoxy resin to obtain a nanostructured adhesive. Thus, a toughness improvement occurs with any depreciation neither of the Young modulus nor the transition glassy temperature. Moreover epoxy resin is well known for its bonding properties. Adhesives are formulated on the basis of the epoxy-amine system: DER 332-MDEA and a DER 332-MDEA nanostructured by 10%wt PMMA-b-PBA-b-PMMA triblock copolymers. First the neat and the nanoscopic-scale-structured thermosets are characterised by thermal, thermomechanical and mechanical tests. Then, to obtain a properties gradient into an adhesive joint, diffusion kinetics between both materials is monitored by rheometer. This study reveals the key parameters that master diffusion phenomenon such as temperature, gap, polarity and weight content of the triblock copolymers. This work allows establishing a rheological model which brings into focus competition between diffusion/wall phenomenon. The impact of this new joint on crack propagation is carried out by cleavage using the wedge test method.

Thermal radiative properties and behavior of refractory metals, highly textured metallic coatings and pyrolytic boron nitride on C/C composite for the Solar Probe Plus mission / Propriétés thermo-radiatives et comportement de métaux réfractaires, dépôts métalliques texturés à forte émissivité et nitrure de bore pyrolytique sur composite carbone/carbone pour la mission Solar Probe Plus

Brodu, Etienne 23 October 2014 (has links)
Solar Probe Plus (NASA) will be a historic mission of space exploration as it will consist in the first spacecraft to enter the solar corona. The spacecraft will face harsh environmental conditions that no other spacecraft has ever encountered in the past. One of the most critical technology developments for this mission is thus material science related: the materials constituting all the surfaces directly facing the Sun must be studied and tested in a relevant environment. The study of the candidate materials has been carried out at PROMES-CNRS: refractory metals for the instruments (W, Re, Ta, Mo, Nb, Ti, and their alloys), and refractory ceramics for the thermal protection shield (C/C composite and pyrolytic boron nitride - pBN). Samples of these materials were tested experimentally in a simulated near-Sun environment. This environment was simulated on ground thanks to the association of the 1 MW solar furnace in Odeillo, to the MEDIASE facility. This way materials were tested at very high temperature (1100-2500 K) in high vacuum (10-4 Pa), with the solar wind being reproduced via a proton bombardment (1-4 keV, up to 1018 ions m-2 s-1). The material properties that we have studied the most are the thermal radiative properties as they fully determine the temperature of a free-standing surface exposed to an intense radiative flux in vacuum. For refractory metals, it mainly consisted in studying the relationship between surface state and radiative properties, as well as the effect of the treatments. As for the textured metallic coatings and pBN, it consisted mainly in determining their efficiencies and understanding their behaviors.

Traitement à haute pression et haute température de déchets de métaux lourds vers de nouveaux matériaux stables / High pressure and high temperature treatment of heavy metal waste, towards new stable materials

Karnis, Aurélie 08 October 2009 (has links)
Des tests de durabilité permettront d'envisager une valorisation éventuelle de tels matériaux / MSWI 5Municipal Solide Waste Incinerator) fly ashes from the incineration of domestic waste contain heavy metals such as lead or cadmium. In France, these fly ashes are only stored under vitrified forms in class-1 type landfills for hazardous waste. In order to find solutions for long-term storage or valorization of the MSWI fly ashes, we studied glass-ceramics and sintered ceramics at high pressures and/or hight temperature. We used methods of mineral physics to : synthetize at high temperature, synthetize at higt temperature and high pressure using autoclaves with external heating system, observe by electron microcopy, make EDX (Energy Dispersive X-Ray spectrometry) chemical microanalysis, make microprobe analysis, structurally characterize and perform leaching test. We established experimental protocols for the synthesis and analysis of produced materials. For glass-ceramics, we observe that lead and cadmium are incorporated inside expected crystallites and new crystal phases, themselves embedded by a glassy matrix. This so-called "double barrier" (crystals + glass) is a promising way towards a substainable of lead and cadmium (after EDX analysis and leaching experiements). For sintered ceramics, as for the SYNROC (SYNthetic ROCk) with nuclear waste, new crystal phases incorporating Pb and Cd are found and might display a high resistant for the storage of these toxic elements. In both cases, new materials incorporating large amounts of lead and cadmium were formed. Durability tests may give new ways for a valorization of such materials

Predikce koroze trubek pece s využitím provozních dat / Prediction of furnace tubes corrosion using operating data

Kolomazník, Milan January 2014 (has links)
The thesis deals with the modeling and prediction of corrosion of radiation tube snake in the heating furnace. Specifically it is focused on vertical cylindrical furnace which is included in the catalytic hydrocracking unit and serves for heating aggressive circulation gas which is the cause of high temperature corrosion. An important basis for the creation of computational models are available records about the operation of the furnace and about the corrosion and degradation mechanisms during the lifetime of the tube system in furnace. Such information enables the creation of a computational model which is based on the prediction of high-temperature corrosive damage of radiation tube snake. The computational model involving all relevant factors may serve as the basis for a predictive life management system of radiation snakes in the heating furnace.

Válek, Jaroslav January 2014 (has links)
Concrete has many advantageous properties as regards resistance to fire. It is non-flammable and it has a low thermal conductivity. However, concrete structures, which are not designed for resistance against fire, show significant damage after heating. In particular, the explosive flaking with the consequence of weakening the reinforced concrete cross-section and exposing the steel reinforcement to the temperatures higher than critical temperature of reinforcement. There are only a few possible measures of preventing or mitigating the effects temperature load used. Ways of protection can be divided into two systems: active and passive. Active systems are designed to ensure the greatest possible reduction of temperatures the concrete is exposed to. Passive systems directly resist to high temperatures and fire. Design of composition of concrete with the aim of higher resistance to exposition to high temperatures belongs among the passive systems. A part of the work focuses on summary searches of the problems of concrete and reinforced concrete structures exposed to high temperatures and fire. The goal of the work is defining requirements for cement matrix based composite material and its design ensuring the highest possible resistance to high temperatures or direct fire.

Gisbert Mullor, Ramón 01 September 2023 (has links)
[EN] Currently, abiotic stresses are one of the main limitations in agricultural production and food security. The search for strategies to achieve a better tolerance to abiotic stresses is an objective of great interest worldwide, especially in the face of supra-thermal stress, considering the global warming scenario in which we find ourselves. One way to overcome environmental stresses, under the prism of an integrated or ecological management of the crop, is the use of grafted plants as an adaptation strategy. In pepper, a crop of great economic importance in our country, the lesser use of the grafting technique is due to the lack of rootstocks with sufficient adaptability to abiotic stress conditions. In this sense, the mixed research team between Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias (IVIA), which includes this doctoral thesis, has been able to select different pepper accessions and hybrids, including the NIBER® hybrid, which used as rootstocks have obtained good results in terms of yield under conditions of water and saline stress, and generate information regarding the different physiological and molecular mechanisms responsible for said tolerance. However, to date, the information remains limited in different ways: the effect of grafting at high temperatures has not been studied in depth; the study of the tolerance mechanisms of the NIBER® rootstock against water stress caused by controlled deficit irrigation has not been studied in depth; and finally, no study has focused on analyzing the effects of the graft itself on the yield and quality of the fruits of traditional pepper varieties. In this sense, the objectives that have been set in this doctoral thesis have been: I) physiological and agronomic evaluation of the tolerance to supra-thermal stress of accessions of Capsicum annuum L. used as rootstocks; II) study of the physiological mechanisms that underlie the behavior of rootstocks tolerant to supra-thermal stress; III) study of the bases of the agronomic and physiological behavior of pepper rootstocks tolerant to water stress under controlled conditions of deficit irrigation; IV) agronomic and fruit quality evaluation of traditional pepper varieties grafted on rootstocks tolerant to abiotic stresses. In this doctoral thesis, on the one hand, we have been able to select pepper accessions, especially A57, which, when used as rootstocks, give the grafted variety a certain degree of tolerance to thermal stress from high temperatures. We have also been able to verify that these tolerant rootstocks allow the variety to generate adaptive responses to the negative effects of this stress by modifying its physiological behavior, decreasing electrolyte leakage and H2O2 accumulation, and increasing the content of chlorophylls and carotenoids in the leaves. This physiological response observed in the leaves results in a better physiological adaptation in its reproductive phase, improving the proline content in the anthers and the viability of pollen grains, thereby increasing fruit set and consequently commercial yield. On the other hand, the tolerance to water stress conferred by the NIBER® rootstock is the consequence of a physiological modification that allows maintaining photosynthesis levels with an adequate water use efficiency, resulting in a higher commercial yield. In this sense, the use of the deficit irrigation strategy combined with the use of tolerant rootstocks to water stress and with greater root development, as is the case of NIBER®, can be considered useful to reduce water consumption, cushioning the negative stress effects on yield, mainly due to the lower incidence of blossom-end rot (BER). Finally, we have been able to verify that the use of tolerant rootstocks to abiotic stresses, such as NIBER®, in traditional pepper varieties could be a useful technique to improve the yield and commercial quality of this crop, mainly by reducing the incidence of BER, / Esta tesis doctoral ha sido realizada gracias a la financiación del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033) mediante los proyectos RTA-2017- 00030-C02 y PID2020-118824RR-C2, y a la financiación del Ministerio de Universidades a través de un contrato predoctoral FPU (FPU18/00564) / Gisbert Mullor, R. A new chemical synthesis for vanadium sulfide as high performance cathode

Wen Chao, Lee January 2014 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Since 1990s, rechargeable Li-ion batteries have been widely used in consumer electronics such as cell phones, global positioning systems (GPS), personnel digital assistants (PDA), digital cameras, and laptop computers. Recently Li-ion batteries received considerable attention as a major power source for electric vehicles. However, significant technical challenges still exist for widely deploying Li-ion batteries in electric vehicles. For instance, the energy density of Li-ion batteries is not high enough to support a long-distance commute. The Li-ion batteries used for the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt only can support 50 – 100 miles per charge. The cost of Li-ion battery packs in electric vehicles is still high. The battery pack for the Chevy Volt costs about $8,000, and the larger one in the Nissan Leaf costs about $12,000. To address these problems, new Li-ion battery electrode materials with high energy density and low cost should be developed. Among Li-ion battery cathode materials, vanadium pentoxide, V2O5, is one of the earliest oxides studied as a cathode for Li-ion batteries because of its low cost, abundance, easy synthesis, and high energy density. However, its practical reversible capacity has been limited due to its irreversible structural change when Li insertion is more than x = 1. Tremendous efforts have been made over the last twenty years to improve the phase reversibility of LixV2O5 (e.g., 0 ≤ x ≤ 2) because of vanadium pentoxides’ potential use as high capacity cathodes in Li-ion batteries. In this thesis, a new strategy was studied to develop vanadium pentoxide cathode materials with improved phase reversibility. The first study is to synthesize vanadium oxide cathodes via a new chemical route – creating a phase transformation from the vanadium sulfide to oxide. The β-Na0.33V2O5 was prepared via a new method of chemical synthesis, involving the chemical transformation of NaVS2 via heat-treatment at 600 °C in atmospheric air. The β-Na0.33V2O5 particles were well crystalized and rod-shaped, measuring 7–15 μm long and 1–3 μm wide with the formation of the crystal defects on the surface of the particles. In contrast to previous reports contained in the literature, Na ions were extracted, without any structural collapse, from the β -Na0.33V2O5 structure and replaced with Li ions during cycling of the cell in the voltage range, 1.5 V to 4.5 V. This eventually resulted in a fully reversible Li intercalation into the LixV2O5 structure when 0.0 ≤ x ≤ 2.0. The second study is to apply the synthesis method to LiVS2 for the synthesis of β׳-LixV2O5 for use as a high performance cathode. The synthesis method is based on the heat treatment of the pure LiVS2 in atmospheric air. By employing this method of synthesis, well-crystalized, rod-shaped β׳-LixV2O5 particles 20 – 30 μm in length and 3 – 6 μm in width were obtained. Moreover, the surface of β׳-LixV2O5 particles was found to be coated by an amorphous vanadium oxysulfide film (~20 nm in thickness). In contrast to a low temperature vanadium pentoxide phase (LixV2O5), the electrochemical intercalation of lithium into the β׳-LixV2O5 was fully reversible where 0.0 < x < 2.0, and it delivered a capacity of 310 mAh/g at a current rate of 0.07 C between 1.5 V and 4 V. Good capacity retention of more than 88% was also observed after 50 cycles even at a higher current rate of 2 C. The third study is the investigation of NaVS2 as a cathode intercalation material for sodium ion batteries. We have shown that reversible electrochemical deintercalation of x ~ 1.0 Na per formula unit of NaxVS2, corresponding to a capacity of ~200 mAh/g, is possible. And a stable capacity of ~120 mAh/g after 30 cycles was observed. These studies show that the new chemical synthesis route for creating a phase transformation from the vanadium sulfide to oxide by heat treatment in air is a promising method for preparing vanadium oxide cathode material with high reversibility. Although this sample shows a relatively low voltage range compared with other cathodes such as LiCoO2 (3.8 V) and LiFePO4 (3.4 V), the large capacity of this sample is quite attractive in terms of increasing energy density in Li-ion batteries. Also, NaVS2 could be a promising cathode material for sodium ion batteries.
