Planar Ultra-Wideband Modular Antenna (PUMA) Arrays for High-Volume Manufacturing on Organic Laminates and BGA Interfaces

LaCroix, James R 21 March 2022 (has links) (PDF)
This work proposes wideband and broadband Planar Ultra-wideband Modular Antenna (PUMA) arrays designed to improve cost and reliability for high production volume commercial and military applications. The designs feature simplified PCB stack-ups with high dielectric constant (Dk) dimensionally stable materials to improve the manufacturing cost and yield. Additionally, the packages use ball grid array (BGA) interconnects, commonly used in digital electronics, for simple solder reflow integration with radio frequency (RF) electronics. While high Dk materials present practical manufacturing benefits, theoretical background will show how and why PUMA arrays lose frequency bandwidth and scan volume with high Dk materials. Further, a band limiting cavity mode will be shown to encroach into the frequency band of high Dk PUMA arrays due to a higher order common mode. PUMA arrays designed on several high Dk materials (Dk = {2.55, 3, 3.7}) will be presented to characterize this reduction in bandwidth. A wideband 7.25-31 GHz (4.3:1) PUMA array-on-package designed on Rogers RO4725JXR (Dk = 2.55) is presented with infinite array simulation results showing good active impedance match, port isolation and cross-polarization performance out to q = 45°. A simplified broadband 15-21 GHz (30%) PUMA array on a thin (λ/11) single layer of Isola FR408HR (Dk = 3.7) is proposed with infinite array results predicting strong active impedance, port isolation and cross-polarization performance with better port isolation and cross-polarization levels than a similar dual-polarized probe fed patch array.

Atmospheric pollution by particulate matter in the open pit mining.

Almeida, Ivo Torres de 20 December 1999 (has links)
Atmospheric pollution aspects were analyzed. Two types of ambients were selected for study: a mining ambient and an urban ambient. To obtain a preliminary evaluation of the quality of the air in these ambients a sampling program was accomplished for each area. Two basic points were studied: the concentration of the total suspended particulates and the chemical and physical characterization of the particulate matter. The concentrations of total suspended particulates were obtained through the use of high volume samplers (Hi-vols). The reference method used was the high volume sampler method, proposed by ABNT through the norm NBR 9547: 97. The physical characterization involved the determination of the size distribution of the suspended particulate matter while the chemical characterization involved the determination of its composition. The analytic techniques used for the characterization of the particulate matter were the X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) for the chemical characterization, and the Low Angle Laser Light Scattering (LALLS) for the physical characterization. Concentration levels for total suspended particulates showed that the mining areas presented higher values than those for urban area. Legal standards were exceeded in the mining area, fact that did not occur in the urban area. Size distributions of the particulate matter demonstrated that the finest fractions were found in larger amounts in the mining areas, while the coarses fractions were present in larger amounts in the urban area. The chemical compositions of the suspended particulate matter in the mining areas were very similar to the compositions of the rocks been mined.

Purification sanguine au cours du choc septique / Blood purification for septic shock

Rimmelé, Thomas 23 June 2010 (has links)
Extracorporeal blood purification therapies are now being proposed in order to improve septic shock outcomes. These therapies work based on immunomodulation of the host inflammatory response, obtained by non selectively removing inflammatory mediators. We report data from several different studies performed in vitro, in animals and in human beings, assessing various blood purification therapies which include high-volume hemofiltration, cascade hemofiltration, high-adsorption hemofiltration, coupled plasma filtration adsorption, hemoadsorption and high-permeability hemodialysis. This translational research work shows that blood purification therapies are capable of removing not only the inflammatory mediators but also the endotoxins as far as highadsorptionhemofiltration and hemoadsorption are concerned. We demonstrate technical feasibility, safety and advantages of cascade hemofiltration and continuous high-permeability hemodialysis. The beneficial hemodynamic effects related to these blood purification techniques are also highlighted. For future research, optimization of the most efficient techniques is warranted, takinginto account of their respective advantages and drawbacks. Regarding pathophysiology, the direct effect of these therapies on leukocyte function is subject to further investigation. To date, convection, diffusion and adsorption should not be viewed in opposition but rather, seen as complementary mechanisms.

They penetrate into the upper respiratory tract, causing respiratory problems such as worsening of asthma. The aim of this study was to determine and quantify the distribution of chemical elements in the PM10 particulate matter present in the atmosphere of the city of Sao Carlos (Sao Paulo). Samples were collected daily for a period of 23h and 30 minutes, from April 16, 2014 to April 16, 2015. A high-volume sampler (AGV-PM10) with micro quartz and fiber glass filters were used. The filters were subjected to gravimetric analysis to obtain the mass of PM10 and were then analyzed by energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy to identify and quantify the chemical composition of the samples. The highest average concentration during twelve-month period was 70.41μg/m³ (August, 2014) and the smallest was 22.59μg/m³ (January, 2015). The annual arithmetic average found for the twelve months period was 42.71μg/m³. If compared with annual arithmetic average limit of 40μg/m³, established by CETESB, the value is slightly above and below 50 μg/m³ (CONAMA). If we consider the limit established by the World Health Organization (WHO), which is 20μg/m³, this value is much higher than recommended.

Vývoj betonů s vysokým obsahem popílku a ověření jeho trvanlivosti v různých prostředích / Development of concrete with high fly ash content and verification of durability in various environments

Ambruz, Pavel January 2014 (has links)
This thesis contains two main parts: theoretical and experimental. The theoretical part deals with summarization knowledge of high-volume fly ash (HVFA) concretes. Among others, there are mentioned processes of producing of fly ash, characteristic features and resistance to aggressive environments of HVFA concretes. The theoretical part ends with a suitable example of practical application. In the practical part were tested properties of nine different mixtures containing 40%, 50% and 60% replacement by weight of the cement by fly ash. They were compared with the reference mixtures without fly ash addition. The main endpoints were long-term compressive strength, resistance to aggressive environments, the influence of fly ash on consistency, hydratation temperatures, water absorption and volume changes.

Velikost jednotlivých lipoproteinových částic u různých patologických stavů / The size of individual lipoproteins in various pathological conditions

Dušejovská, Magdaléna January 2017 (has links)
Metabolic syndrome (MS) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) represent two clinical- pathologic states with increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular complications with considerable impact on the quality of life of the patients. The knowledge about the changes in distribution of individual lipoprotein subfractions could countribute to the estimation of risk of atherosclerosis development. The studies presented in this thesis aimed at analyses of subfractions of LDL and HDL in the abovementioned pathologic states; moreover, we tried to elucidate the associations of changes in lipoprotein subfractions with clinical as well as biochemical alterations. The Study I was a placebo controlled study observing the effect of polyunsaturated fatty acids of n-3 family (PUFA n-3) administration to patients with MS who were divided to statin-treated ones (36 patients), and those without statin therapy (24 probands). The Study II comprised of 57 patients with ESRD on high volume haemodiafiltration (HV-HDF). In this Study, the parameters after 5-year follow-up were compared with baseline characteristics. Also, we included comparisons with the control group of 50 age and sex matched patients without the signs of ESRD. In Study I, we observed lowering of triacylglycerol and cholesterol content in VLDL...

Etude de champs de température séparables avec une double décomposition en valeurs singulières : quelques applications à la caractérisation des propriétés thermophysiques des matérieux et au contrôle non destructif / Study of separable temperatur fields with a double singular value decomposition : some applications in characterization of thermophysical properties of materials and non destructive testing

Ayvazyan, Vigen 14 December 2012 (has links)
Infrared thermography is a widely used method for characterization of thermophysical properties of materials. The advent of the laser diodes, which are handy, inexpensive, with a broad spectrum of characteristics, extend metrological possibilities of infrared cameras and provide a combination of new powerful tools for thermal characterization and non destructive evaluation. However, this new dynamic has also brought numerous difficulties that must be overcome, such as high volume noisy data processing and low sensitivity to estimated parameters of such data. This requires revisiting the existing methods of signal processing, adopting new sophisticated mathematical tools for data compression and processing of relevant information.New strategies consist in using orthogonal transforms of the signal as a prior data compression tools, which allow noise reduction and control over it. Correlation analysis, based on the local cerrelation study between partial derivatives of the experimental signal, completes these new strategies. A theoretical analogy in Fourier space has been performed in order to better understand the «physical» meaning of modal approaches. The response to the instantaneous point source of heat, has been revisited both numerically and experimentally. By using separable temperature fields, a new inversion technique based on a double singular value decomposition of experimental signal has been introduced. In comparison with previous methods, it takes into account two or three-dimensional heat diffusion and therefore offers a better exploitation of the spatial content of infrared images. Numerical and experimental examples have allowed us to validate in the first approach our new estimation method of longitudinal thermal diffusivities. Non destructive testing applications based on the new technique have also been introduced. An old issue, which consists in determining the initial temperature field from noisy data, has been approached in a new light. The necessity to know the thermal diffusivities of an orthotropic medium and the need to take into account often three-dimensional heat transfer, are complicated issues. The implementation of the double singular value decomposition allowed us to achieve interesting results according to its ease of use. Indeed, modal approaches are statistical methods based on high volume data processing, supposedly robust as to the measurement noise.
