The purpose of this study was to get an extended view over social workers work with honor related violence. This topic was classified as a problem in Sweden first when three different women were murdered in results of honor related violence. Thereafter the case where Fadima was murdered in 2002, the Swedish governments started to discuss possible supports that can help solve this problem. The main purpose was to find out how social services view honor related violence and what support they have for the ones that are abused. Although anybody can be a victim of honor related violence the study has mainly focused on the girls and young women that are a victim of honor related violence. We wanted to get a more extended view over the issues, therefore we used a qualitative thematic analysis. This method has been executed by semi-structured interviews. The interviews that have been conducted were with social secretaries that work in Social services with honor related violence. After reviewing our interview results we started analyzing the data. The results show that there are different supports for the girls and young women that are a victim of honor related violence. The problem is that these supports have not always shown achievements. This is not only due to a lack of support from Social Services. This depends on the victim and if the victims will go through with the support. Therefore the government needs to work with the families that expose these girls for honor related violence to try to change their view.

I mötet med hedersförtryck : Skolkuratorns verktyg, synsätt och utmaningar / Encountering Honor Related Oppression : The School Counselor´s Tools, Perspectives, and ChallengesLundin, Maria, Ekengren, Peter January 2024 (has links)
Denna studie utforskar hur skolkuratorer bemöter och hanterar hedersrelaterat våld och förtryck inom svensk skolmiljö. Mot bakgrund av att hedersförtryck identifieras som ett växande problem i Sverige, problematiserar forskningsstudien befintliga kunskapsgap kring skolkuratorers interaktioner med berörda elever. Utifrån tidigare forskning identifieras en stark avsaknad av riktlinjer och en misstro mot socialtjänstens förmåga att adekvat hantera sådana fall. Studien bygger på semistrukturerade intervjuer med skolkuratorer, analyserade genom tematisk kodning. Resultaten visar att skolkuratorer står inför utmaningar relaterade till främst kulturella och religiösa dynamiker, resultatet belyser även ledningens engagemang och riktlinjer. Analysen som utgår från Lipskys teoribildning gällande gräsrotsbyråkrati belyser utmaningar och framgångsfaktorer gällande samverkan och handlingsutrymme. Diskussionen belyser vikten av ökad kunskap och stöd samt utveckling av specifika riktlinjer för att effektivare kunna stödja elever i riskzonen. Studien bidrar med insikter för både teoretisk förståelse och praktisk tillämpning i socialt arbete inom skolan, samt föreslår riktningar för framtida forskning inom området. / This study explores how school counselors address and manage honor-related violence and oppression in Swedish schools. Considering that honor oppression is seen as a growing problem in Sweden, the research study highlights gaps in knowledge regarding school counselors' interactions with affected students. Based on previous research, a significant lack of guidelines and distrust in social services' ability to properly handle such cases were identified. The study is based on semi-structured interviews with school counselors, analyzed through thematic coding. The results show that school counselors face challenges related to cultural and religious dynamics, and also highlight the involvement of management and guidelines. The analysis, drawing on Lipsky's theory of street-level bureaucracy, outlines challenges and success factors in collaboration and decision-making space. The discussion emphasizes the importance of increased knowledge and support, and the development of specific guidelines to better support students at risk. The study provides insights for both theoretical understanding and practical application in social work within schools and suggests directions for future research in the field.

På heder och samvete : En kvantitativ undersökning om polyviktimisering, psykisk ohälsa samt utsatthet för mobbning bland tonåringar som utsätts för hedersförtryck. / On honor and conscience : A quantitative study of poly-victimization, mental ill health and exposure to bullying amongst adolescents who are exposed to honor oppression.Bengtsson, Dennis January 2020 (has links)
Bakgrund: Hedersrelaterat våld och förtryck är en angelägen folkhälsofråga innebärande negativa konsekvenser för berörda individer inklusive barn och unga. En förekommande form av hedersförtryck är barn och tonåringar som inte får välja sin framtida partner. Det kan medföra oskuldskrav samt kontroll av familjen med målet att äkta en partner som kan bidra till ökad socioekonomisk status. Kontrollen möjliggör därtill negativa hälsokonsekvenser för individen. Forskning belyser att hedersrelaterat våld och förtryck kan innefatta barnmisshandel och psykisk ohälsa för utsatta barn och unga. Utsatthet för våld och förtryck i hemmet kan även leda till utsatthet för mobbning då individen på grund av sina hemförhållanden kan uppfattas som annorlunda enligt skolkamrater. Syfte: Syftet med studien var att undersöka sambandet mellan hedersförtryck och polyviktimisering, psykisk ohälsa samt mobbning bland tonåringar i Sverige. Metod: Studien baseras på tvärsnittsdata från en nationell kartläggning om våld mot barn från år 2016 där sammantaget 4741 elever från årskurs 9 på högstadiet och årskurs 2 på gymnasiet deltog. För att besvara studiens syfte med tillhörande frågeställningar tillämpades korsanalyser samt logistiska regressionsanalyser. Vidare tillämpades även multivariata logistiska regressionsanalyser justerat för kön, ekonomi, ålder, boendesituation och funktionsnedsättning. Resultat: Resultatet redovisade att hedersförtryck hade ett statistiskt signifikant samband med polyviktimisering, psykisk ohälsa samt att vara utsatt för mobbning. De justerade analyserna redovisade att hedersförtryck ökade sannolikheten för polyviktimisering (aOR 10.2, CI 5.6 – 18.4), psykisk ohälsa såsom självskadebeteende (aOR 1.9, CI 1.1 – 3.2), suicidförsök (aOR 2.4, CI 1.3 – 4.7) samt utsatthet för mobbning (aOR 2.4, CI 1.5 – 4.1). Konklusion: Studiens resultat bekräftar att hedersförtryck kan öka sannolikheten för våldsutsatthet samt negativa hälsokonsekvenser inkluderat dödligt utfall bland tonåringar. Detta understryker vikten av förebyggande arbete för hedersförtryckta barn och unga samt att de får anpassad hjälp och stöd av professionella utövare i olika samhällsarenor. / Background: Honor related violence and oppression is a significant societal subject in the field of public health sciences resulting in negative consequences for children and adolescences. One form of honor oppression is children and adolescences unable to choose their future partner. This can derive claim of virginity and control from the family with the aim to marry a partner who can contribute to increased socioeconomic status. The emphasized control results in multiple negative health-consequences for the individual. Previous research implies that honor related violence and oppression can be related to child abuse and mental illness among children and adolescences. Exposure to violence and oppression from home can also be related to exposure for bullying where the individual because of her home conditions may be perceived as different from her school-peers. Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the correlation between honor oppression and poly-victimization, mental illness and bullying among Swedish adolescences. Method: The study is based on cross-sectional data derived from a national survey about violence against children from year 2016 included 4741 students from year 9 in elementary school and the second year of high-school in total. Cross-sectional and logistical regression analyses where applied to answer the aim of the study with included research questions. Furthermore, multivariate logistical regression analyses adjusted for gender, economy, age, residential-situation and disability were practiced. Results: The results showed that honor oppression had a statistically significant correlation to poly-victimization, mental illness and exposure to bullying. The adjusted analyses presented that honor-oppression increased the probability for poly-victimization (aOR 10.2, CI 5.6 – 18.4), mental illness such as self-harm (aOR 1.9, CI 1.1 – 3.2), suicidal attempt (aOR 2.4, CI 1.3 – 4.7) and exposure to bullying (aOR 2.4, CI 1.5 – 4.1). Conclusions: The results of the study confirmed that honor oppression can increase the possibility for exposure to violence and negative health consequences included lethal outcomes for adolescences. This emphasizes the importance of prevention concerning honor- oppressed children and adolescences where they can get adapted help and support from professional practices in different societal arenas.

Abstract Honor-related violence and oppression is a major problem in our society. Many individuals live in fear and don't dare to seek help from public authorities. The most targeted group of individuals are young girls and women. Most often, the perpetrators are the men in the family and relatives, but the women can also be the perpetrators. Many lives are taken because of collective norms in honor groups and many suffer in silence.The purpose of this study is to increase the knowledge about the practices of the honor culture and the consequences with a particular focus on honor-related violence and oppression within close relationships. The study contains experiences of individuals who live in collective groups with honor norms. Previous studies on honor-related violence and oppression show that it has been difficult to map how many individuals are victims of this kind of crime. The chosen theories in this study are: stigma, individualism and collectivism and gender.These will be a tool to gain a deeper understanding of different kinds of honor norms and how they affect the victims.The collected material in this study consists of semi-structured interviews which were then analyzed with the help of the chosen theories and previous research. The results and the analysis show that honor norms express themselves differently depending on the gender and what kind of society you are in. It also shows that there is a lack of competence on honor-related violence and oppression. The respondents in the interviews demonstrate that standards of honor exist and that it must be talked about more in our society.
