Arbetsterapeuters erfarenheter av att använda bedömningsinstrument I-HOPE/S i det kliniska arbetet : Occupational therapists´experiences of using assessment instrument I-HOPE/S in clinical work

In-Home Occupational Performance Evaluation [I-HOPE] är ett aktivitetskort baserat bedömningsinstrument som utvecklats i USA för att mäta både aktivitetsutförande och aktivitetshinder för äldre över 65 år i ordinärt boende. En pilotgrupp legitimerade arbetsterapeuter i Sverige har testat den svenska versionen av bedömningsinstrument I-HOPE [I-HOPE/S] i kliniskt arbete under hösten 2017. Syfte: Syftet med studien var att beskriva arbetsterapeuternas erfarenheter av att använda bedömningsinstrument I-HOPE/S i det kliniska arbetet. Metod: Datainsamling har skett genom semistrukturerade intervjuer. Metoden som användes var en manifest kvalitativ innehållsanalys med deduktiv ansats.  Resultat: Studiens resultat visade som helhet att I-HOPE/S är ett bra bedömningsinstrument som främjade arbetsterapeuten att få ett bra underlag för vidare åtgärder och ansågs vara personcentrerad.  Aktivitetskorten ansågs vara centrala i bedömningsinstrument I-HOPE/S och lyfte fram bortglömda aktiviteter. En begränsande aspekt för användandet av I-HOPE/S var att flertal arbetsterapeuter visste inte hur de skulle kunna använda poängen de fick fram och hur siffrorna skulle tolkas. Bedömningen med I-HOPE/S var tidskrävande. Slutsats: Bedömningsinstrumentet I-HOPE/S har potential att användas av arbetsterapeuter i det kliniska arbetet. / In-Home Occupational Performance Evaluation [I-HOPE] is an activity card-based assessment instrument developed in USA to assess in-home activity performance and activity barriers for people above 65 years. A pilot group of registered occupational therapists in Sweden has tested the Swedish version of the assessment instrument I-HOPE [I-HOPE/S] in clinical work during the autumn, 2017. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to describe the occupational therapists’ experiences of using the assessment instrument I-HOPE/S in clinical work. Method:  The data sampling was performed through semi-structured interviews. The method applied in the present study consists of a manifest qualitative content analysis with a deductive approach. Results: The results of the study showed that overall I-HOPE/S is a person-centered assessment instrument that promoted satisfactory support to the occupational therapists for further actions. The activity cards were found central in the assessment instrument I-HOPE/S and were helpful in exposing forgotten activities. A limiting aspect of using I-HOPE/S was that a majority of the occupational therapists did not understand how to use the accumulated scores or how assess them. The assessment with I-HOPE/S was time-consuming. Conclusions: The assessment instrument I-HOPE/S has the potential to support occupational therapists in their daily clinical work.

Cape Colonial parliamentary publications, 1854-1910 : with special reference to documents in the Dutch language

This is a study of official documents published by and for the Cape colonial Parliament from the mid nineteenth century, when the parliamentary system of government began in South Africa, to the early years of the twentieth century, when the Cape colony was incorporated into the Union of South Africa. The constitutional framework within which government and parliamentary publishing took place is outlined, and the relevance of each type of document to the work of Parliament and the present-day researcher is explained. Emphasis has been placed on the administration of the publishing process from conceptualization through the printing stages to distribution and finally to the disposal of surplus material. The study concludes with an investigation of the current status of Cape parliamentary publications respecting preservation issues and the exploitation of the material for research purposes in libraries and archives, and some remarks on future trends. Particular attention has been given to use of the Dutch language in the predominantly English language Cape Parliament and the hitherto neglected effect this had on official publishing. But while it offers cognitive support, it also presents a need that is fulfilled by an educational proposal based on a not-yet-conscious being. An education based on hope has four essential pillars: learning to know, learning to do, learning to be, learning to live together and, most of all, immerging into in the seas of uncertainty. In times when school is a promoter of certainties at the expense of uncertainties, education must not forsake the notion of the unpredictable and immeasurable, nor the need to find ways to enable better understanding of aspect related to the not-yet-be. Contributions to nesting ecology of forest birds.

An approximately 228 acres large forested area near Hope, B.C., has been investigated in the mahonietosum subassociation of Pseudotsugeto-Gaultherietum mesic association of the Coastal Douglas-fir Zone. Botanical survey and bird census work by the nest (or territory) mapping method were carried out during two summer seasons. Fifteen ecosystem types are described and their bird population, expressed in average densities per area unit as well as by average biomass is tabulated. Physical environmental conditions, especially pertaining to microclimate, were measured at 55 nests of the eight most common passerine species, and nest placing and construction has been considered at 167 nests of the same species. It has been found that the nesting of these species in their habitats is the function of the present vegetation, physical environment and the adaptive range of the species. In certain species the birds apparently chose nest sites with equable microclimate. In others it was found that the insulation of the nest varies according to the needs indicated by the extremes of the microclimate; again in others the nest material chosen provided the best available resistance to mechanical stresses. While other essential environmental requirements were not studied the results point toward an assumption that microclimate strongly influences the site, height, position, and material of the nests, and ultimately, the selection of nesting habitat of the birds studied. / Forestry, Faculty of / Graduate

Households of the Cape, 1750 to 1850 : inventories and the archaeological record

Bibliography: p. 193-208. / The purpose of the research was to study changes that occurred in the material culture of the Cape during the period when the British took over control of the colony from the Dutch. There were three phases for investigation: the colony under the Dutch East India Company in the 18th century, twenty transitional years of interim British and Netherlands governments between 1795 and 1815, and the Cape as a British colony after 1815. An historical archaeological approach was applied to material remains surviving from those years, such as excavated artefacts, documents and buildings, that assumed these sources of material culture reflected the larger cultural, or cognitive, contexts in which they were conceived, made and used. Particular emphasis was placed on examination of household inventory manuscripts (lists of fixed and moveable properties, goods and chattels). Selected information from the inventories of more than 800 households was recorded, and further detailed analysis made of seventy-nine documents. Room-by-room appraisals indicate the layout (house plan), room numbers (house size), room names and activities (functions of spaces) within the house. These probate records thus provided invaluable information about houses, their contents and the placement of objects within the household, and could be investigated from the level of individual rooms on the day of appraisal to a range of houses over a number of years. By constituting the documentary evidence in a form compatible with assemblages of excavated artefacts, as a series uf space and time blocks, integrated information provided enhanced material cultural detail. Patterns were observed through time and across a range of regional and socio-economic situations. The first period covered a "I Dutch" Cape under the control of the eastern arm of the Dutch East India Company, but households were organised in a way distinctive to the Cape. Then there was a short period of relative freedom from governmental control, as transition was made from Dutch to British colonial status and trade options broadened, resulting in the wealthier urban households reflecting fashion, and to the benefit of many farmers. Finally, the Cape was fully incorporated into the networks of the British Empire, undergoing widespread adaptations to colonial society and changes in the material culture of households.

Finding, Nurturing, and Instilling Hope in Family Therapy

The development of a personal theory of therapy and change is an integral part of the training and educational philosophies of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Utah State University. This personal theory attempts to identify and explain each student's beliefs regarding the specific mechanisms by which change occurs, thus providing a therapeutic backbone from which one may integrate various interventions, ideas, concepts, and approaches to therapy. As one engages in the process of integration, it becomes critical for students to evaluate their performances. A thorough self-evaluation that includes the utilization of scientific methods leads to the development of important scientist-practitioner skills that may be difficult to obtain through any means. This study was designed to elucidate and investigate a single therapist's utilization and integration of hope theory in an effort to increase his ability to find, nurture, and engender greater hope in family therapy. Three individuals who presented for therapeutic services at the Utah State University marriage and family therapy clinic participated in the study. Eight therapy sessions were conducted. Each session was videorecorded and coded with an intervention checklist. The Outcome Questionnaire 45.2, Personal and Family Information Form, case notes, teammate/supervisory observation notes, personal reflection journal, DVD reflection journal, homework assignments, and a hope scaling question were used to assess hope as well as the therapist's decision-making process. The results of this study suggest that the therapist applied and integrated interventions consistent with hope theory during the course of therapy, which appeared to be beneficial to clients. The decision-making process of the therapist and the effects of the integration and utilization of hope theory upon the therapist were revealed. Other findings, implications, and limitations are discussed.

Differential Relationships of Hope and Optimism with Adjustment in Breast Cancer Patients

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Psychological and marital adjustment are two important outcomes for patients with breast cancer. Personality traits, such as hope and optimism, may influence adjustment to adversity. It was hypothesized that patient and partner hope and optimism would differentially predict patient marital and psychological adjustment. Measured variable path analysis with 56 patient-partner dyads found that patient and partner hope equally predict patient marital adjustment, while there was a trend for patient optimism predicting patient psychological adjustment. These results suggest that hope and optimism differentially predict adjustment outcomes, and that the partner also has a role in the patients’ adjustment. Regression analyses were used to examine the hypothesis that discrepancies in patient and partner personality would result in maladjustment. No interaction effects were found predicting patient psychological adjustment. Three out of six interactions were found for patient marital adjustment. These analyses suggest that complementary personality styles among couples coping with breast cancer may result in optimal patient marital adjustment.
