Élimination des polluants par plasmas froids et association à la catalyse : acétaldéhyde et phénol / Removal of pollutants by cold plasmas and association to catalysis : acetaldehyde and phenol

L'objectif de ce travail était d'une part d'étudier la dégradation du phénol en milieu aqueux par un plasma GlidArc d'air humide et d'autre part d'étudier la conversion de l'acétaldéhyde dans des gaz atmosphériques par un plasma DBD généré par une haute tension impulsionnelle. Les résultats de l'étude paramétrique de la dégradation du phénol ont montré une augmentation de l'efficacité en fonction de la concentration initiale et du débit d'air humide. L'augmentation du gap entre les électrodes à occasionné celle de la concentration des ions nitrates. La majeur parie des nombreux produits de réactions est constituée d'acides carboxyliques mais aussi d'hydroquinone, de para-nitrophénol et de para-nitrosophénol. Cette identification a permis de dresser un schéma réactionnel de la dégradation du phénol. La conversion de l'acétaldéhyde a été effectuée dans des conditions de température allant de l'ambiante jusqu'à 300°C et dans deux types de mélanges: CH3CHO/N2 et CH3CHO/N2/O2 (jusqu'à 10% O2). Les résultats ont montré que le coût énergétique baisse en présence d'oxygène dans le mélange et également lorsque la température augmente. Les principaux sous-produits identifiés dans CH3CHO/N2 sont CO, H2, CH4, HCN, C2H6, CH3CN tandis que dans les mélanges oxygénés, CO2 et CO, CH2O, CH3OH sont les sous-produits les plus importants. L'étude cinétique menée à la suite de cette analyse grâce à un modèle 0D simplifié a permis de mettre en évidence le rôle primordial de la dissociation par quenching des états métastables d'azote et de l'oxydation notamment par O et OH dans la conversion de l'acétaldéhyde. La modélisation a aussi permis de comprendre les processus de formation des sous-produits majoritaires. Des catalyseurs à base de MnO2 ont été placés en aval de la zone de décharge pour décomposer l'ozone qui se forme abondamment dans les mélanges oxygénés surtout à basse température. L'oxygène atomique produit lors de cette décomposition oxyde l'acétaldéhyde résiduel et ses sous-produits. Le coût énergétique a ainsi été diminué et les concentrations des sous-produits comme CH2O et CH3OH ont été réduites. / This work aimed to study the degradation of aqueous phenol by humid air GlidArc plasma and to study the removal of acetaldehyde in atmospheric gas by pulsed DBD plasma. The parametric study of phenol degradation showed an increase in efficiency as a function of the initial concentration and humid air flow. The increase of the inter-electrodes gap has increased nitrate ions concentration. The numerous reaction products formed consist mostly of carboxylic acids. Other byproducts identified are hydroquinone, para-nitrophenol and para-nitrosophenol. By-products identification enabled drawing a reaction scheme of phenol degradation. The acetaldehyde removal has been achieved in temperature conditions ranging from ambient to 300°C and in two types of mixtures: CH3CHO/N2 and CH3CHO/N2/O2 (up to 10 % O2). The results showed that the energy cost decreases in the presence of oxygen in the mixture as well as when the temperature increases. In CH3CHO/N2, the main by-products are CO, H2, CH4, HCN, C2H6, CH3CN whereas in oxygenated mixtures, CO2 and CO, CH2O, CH3OH are the most important by-products. The kinetic study following this analysis, by using a simplified 0D model has highlighted the key role of the quenching of nitrogen metastables states and that of the oxidation of acetaldehyde, caused in particular by O and OH. The modeling also helped understanding the formation processes of major by-products. A MnO2 based catalyst was placed downstream of plasma zone in order to decompose ozone that is abundantly formed in oxygenated mixtures especially at low temperature. The atomic oxygen produced during this decomposition is used to oxidize the residual acetaldehyde and its by-products. The energy cost was thus decreased and the concentrations of certain by-products such as CH2O and CH3OH have been reduced as well.

Este trabalho traz reflexões sobre atividades educativas ao ar livre, desenvolvidas em parques, áreas verdes e assemelhados. Procurou-se, inicialmente, situar tais práticas frente ao debate associado à educação ambiental; em seguida, após breve histórico sobre a utilização de atividades de campo em educação formal, construiu-se, a partir de escolas públicas de municípios da região de Campinas - SP, um quadro atual de tais atividades. Com esse objetivo, foi aberta uma frente de obtenção de dados que incluiu consulta aos planos de gestão das escolas, aplicação de questionários e realização de entrevistas. O quadro obtido revela, quantitativamente, que aquela modalidade de trabalho pedagógico é pouco empregada e atinge apenas uma minoria de alunos. Destacam-se, entre as dificuldades explicitadas, as relacionadas com os custos envolvidos na organização das atividades e com o baixo poder aquisitivo dos alunos. Perseguir alternativas pragmáticas, como a disponibilização de locais próximos às escolas e que admitam o livre acesso, parece um desafio necessário, como também é a geração de instâncias coletivas capazes de articular a plena utilização de tais espaços. Entre os locais preferidos pelas escolas destacam-se os zoológicos, instituições que se caracterizam pela manutenção de animais em cativeiro. Tal preferência remete tanto à reflexão sobre o papel educativo desses locais quanto à possibilidade de melhor considerar a fauna em liberdade, em detrimento da cativa, enquanto uma opção às atividades educativas ao ar livre. A escolha de locais onde grupos conspícuos da fauna sejam mais perceptíveis seria muito conveniente para atividades direcionadas a crianças e jovens estudantes do ensino básico. Dessa forma, o conhecimento da dinâmica que envolve a utilização educativa de um ambiente úmido local, considerado por sua avifauna conspícua, foi outra dimensão conferida ao presente trabalho. Formada a partir da represa de Americana ou reservatório de Salto Grande, não obstante ser alvo de consenso sobre diferentes níveis de degradação ambiental, a avifauna que freqüenta o local fez com que fosse denominada \"Minipantanal de Paulínia\" - SP. Quanto às atividades educativas nele desenvolvidas, percebeu-se que apresentam limitações de diferentes ordens, tanto qualitativas quanto quantitativas. Procurou-se deixar uma contribuição concreta sobre o conhecimento desse ambiente e da sua dinâmica, especialmente sobre sua avifauna, pois, embora sendo o elemento positivo mais destacado pelos visitantes e educadores que atuam no local, o conhecimento demonstrado sobre ele foi muito restrito. Um levantamento de campo permitiu identificar a ocorrência de 144 espécies de aves, bem como detectar o potencial relativo de oportunidades de contatos com as mesmas. / This work brings reflexions about and development of educational activities in parks, green areas and similars. First of all, in it, the goal is to set educational practices activities outdoors towards the discussions associated to environmental education. Follow it, after a brief historical about the use of outdoors activities with formal education, it was created an updated program of these activities in public schools of cities from Campinas metropolitan area - SP. For it, it was opened a data comission, which included: consulting to management plans of the school, applying questionnaires and making interviews. The obtained program reveals that this kind of pedagogical work is less applied, reaching just a minority of students and occurring in a punctual way. Among the difficulties showed above, those related to expenses involved in the organization of activities and low (poor) financial conditions of the students are emphasized. Persuading pragmatic alternatives like close places available, that allows free access, seems like a necessary challenge, as it\'s the creation of instant groups able to articulate and get a better structure for using such spaces. Among the schools\' favorite places, there are zoos, institutions that take care of animals in bondages. Such preference refers to the possibility of considering better the fauna in freedom, in captive detriment, while an option to educational activities outdoors. To activities with children and teenagers fromelementary school, it would be then, convenient choosing places where visible groups from fauna can be more perceptive. This way, to know the dynamic which involves a local humid environment, which shelters the very visible birds and keeps educational activities, was another dimension conferred to this work. The referred humid area forms from the dam of Americana or Salto Grande\'s reservatory, whose consensus points it like environmentally damaged. Meantime, the presence of the birds gave them the title of mini rainforest of Paulinia - SP. Looking from the educational prism, it was tried to understand what is developed there, such as leaving a concrete contribution about the knowledge of this environment specially about the birds. Although it is the most emphasized positive element by the visitors, it is not well-known. So it was made, an area survey, that allowed to identify the occurrence of 144 species. About the educational activities, it was realized that they show limitations of different orders, as qualitative as quantitative.

As áreas tropicais úmidas e as febres hemorrágicas virais: uma abordagem geográfica na área ambiental e na de saúde / The humid tropical areas and the infectious hemorrhagic diseases: a geographical approach of the Earth environmental and the humans\' health

Os ambientes terrestres têm sido gradativamente alterados pelo ser humano, mas a partir da Revolução Industrial, o homem começou a atuar de maneira mais intensa sobre o meio, fazendo com que as modificações ambientais tomassem proporções alarmantes, tanto em velocidade quanto em dimensão. As mudanças, como as climáticas, hídricas e biológicas, entre outras, ocorridas durante o século XX foram as maiores já registradas. As alterações ambientais associadas ao quadro demográfico do mundo contemporâneo, às condições socioeconômicas e à revolução técnico-científico-informacional que interligou o mundo, acabaram resultando em um cenário nunca vivenciado pela humanidade e ao mesmo tempo preocupante, tanto para saúde ambiental da Terra como para a humana. Se por um lado essa situação, baseada principalmente no avanço tecnológico, resultou numa verdadeira revolução nas taxas de mortalidade e na esperança de vida, por outro lado criou um ambiente que vem facilitando a emergência e reemergência de doenças, que pode comprometer o próprio futuro. Esse estudo tem por objetivo principal dar subsídios para o acesso a um conhecimento integrado, em escala global, tanto das alterações ambientais das áreas tropicais úmidas e do quadro socioeconômico dos países localizados nessa faixa tropical, quanto do surgimento e/ou expansão de quatro doenças infecciosas de caráter hemorrágico - dengue hemorrágica, febre amarela, marburg e ebola - no período de 1981 a 2005. No campo teórico-metodológico, a Geografia, mediante as suas características científicas de transitar pelos campos das ciências naturais e humanas, devido ao seu objeto de estudo, ofereceu a sustentação científica necessária para a realização, enquanto o avanço tecnológico das comunicações e da informática, associado ao processo de globalização pelo qual o mundo passa, proporcionou uma realidade de trabalho totalmente nova, permitindo a execução operacional do estudo. Foram realizados levantamentos bibliográficos e estudos sobre aquecimento global, mundo tropical, devastação das florestas tropicais úmidas, condições socioeconômicas dos países localizados nesta porção do globo e expansão das doenças citadas nos últimos 25 anos. O conjunto dos dados foi transformado em uma tabela síntese e em material cartográfico que retrata a situação atual desses países, destacando o nível das condições sócio ambientais e o risco saúde em que se encontram. / The terrestrial environments have been gradually altered by human being but from the Industrial Revolution on, this process has been even more intensive, resulting in environmental modifications of fast, huge and alarming proportions. The changes, such as the climatic, hydric and biological ones, among others, that took place in the 20th century, were the largest registered. The environmental alterations, associated to the current demographic panorama, to the socioeconomic conditions and to the technical-scientific-informational revolution - that have linked the whole world - resulted in a scenario never before experienced by humanity and, at the same time, very preoccupying for the Earth environmental health as well as for the humans. If on one hand that situation, based mainly on the technological progress, has resulted in lower mortality rates and higher life expectancy at birth, on the other hand it has also created an environment that made the emergence and re-emergence of diseases much easier to occur, so that future may be at risk. This study intend to bring up subsidies that allow for access to global integrated knowledge, not only about the environmental changes in the countries located in humid tropical areas and their socioeconomic conditions, but also about the influence of these alterations on the appearance and/or expansion of four infectious hemorrhagic diseases - hemorrhagic dengue, yellow fever, marburg and ebola - in the period from 1981 to 2005. In the theoreticalmethodological field, Geography - in face of its scientific characteristics of acting on the fields of both natural and human sciences, due to its object of studying - offered the necessary scientific support for the study accomplishment, while the technological progress in Communications and Computer Sciences, associated to the current world process of globalization, provided a new view of working, which allowed the operational execution of this study. The study was also based on bibliographical researches in world warming, tropical world, deforestation of tropical rain forests, socioeconomic conditions of the countries where the forests are placed and in the expansion of the mentioned diseases over the past 25 years. The set of data were synthesized in a table and in cartographic material that show the socio environmental conditions and the health risk of these countries.

Práticas de manejo e avaliação de extratores em solos da região tropical úmida / Management practices and evaluation of extractants in soils of the humid tropical region

A área cultivada sob sistemas conservacionistas aumentou no Brasil nos últimos anos. Paralelamente, ocorreu incremento na demanda de conhecimento a respeito da variabilidade dos índices de fertilidade do solo utilizados nas recomendações de adubação e calagem. Esse assunto vem preocupando técnicos e pesquisadores envolvidos nas redes regionais de laboratórios de análises de solo e comissões de fertilidade do solo encarregadas da elaboração das recomendações de adubação. O acúmulo de matéria orgânica (MO) no solo pode afetar a eficiência dos extratores químicos por causar alterações físico-químicas, como reações de troca iônica, reações com minerais do solo, liberação de ânions orgânicos, complexação de cátions metálicos, reações de oxirredução, entre outros. Objetivou-se com essa tese: (i) determinar os teores disponíveis de Ca, Mg e K e a relação Ca:Mg:K no solo, bem como correlação entre extratores e determinação das concentrações desses elementos na planta de soja em solos sob semeadura direta (SSD) que recebeu doses de calcário e de gesso; (ii) avaliar extratores para Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn em solo tratado com lodo de esgoto por treze anos e cultivado com milho; (iii) comparar métodos de abertura de amostra de solo para determinação de Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn em solo tratado com lodo de esgoto por treze anos e em solo tratado uma única vez com lodo de esgoto e composto de lodo; (iv) avaliar a qualidade e grau de humificação da matéria orgânica em solos com aporte de material orgânico sob manejos distintos. Partiu-se das hipóteses: (i) o maior teor de MO do solo oriundo do sistema conservacionista e as doses de calcário e gesso promoverão superestimativa da concentração dos nutrientes extraídos pela resina; (ii) a maior quantidade de compostos orgânicos oriundos da aplicação de lodo de esgoto por longo período de tempo diminuirá o poder de extração das soluções complexantes; (iii) o maior teor de matéria orgânica do solo dificultará a abertura da amostra, sendo mais eficiente a mistura de HNO3 e HCl; e (iv) as áreas de plantio direto serão separadas das áreas tratadas com lodo de esgoto pelos compostos orgânicos e o grau de humificação da MO será mais elevado nas áreas de SSD. Houve correlação significativa entre os extratores para Ca, Mg e K, mas não entre teores no solo e a concentração na planta, e não houve efeito da aplicação de calcário e gesso nas concentrações desses elementos na soja. No experimento de solo tratado por treze anos com lodo de esgoto foi observada correlação significativa entre os teores no solo e o acumulado na planta somente para Mn e Zn. As soluções ácidas extraíram maiores quantidades dos micronutrientes. No geral, os teores extraídos pela água régia aproximaram-se dos teores totais no solo, sendo observado efeito da aplicação de resíduo somente para Cu e Zn no experimento de longa duração. O fracionamento físico da MO foi mais eficiente para distinguir os manejos a que os solos foram submetidos. As áreas apresentaram similaridade em relação aos compostos orgânicos predominantes determinados por ressonância magnética nuclear. / An increase in the amount of Brazilian agricultural areas managed under no-till farming systems has been observed in recent years. In the same period has seen increasing demand for information on the variability in the soil fertility indices on which liming and fertilization recommendations are based. This variation is of concern to technicians and researchers working in regional networks of soil analysis laboratories, and to the agencies responsible for establishing recommendations for fertilizing soils. The accumulation of organic matter (OM) in soils may affect the efficiency of chemical extractants by causing physical and chemical alterations to soils, including ion-exchange reactions, reactions with soil minerals, liberation of organic anions, complexation of metallic cations, and oxi-redox reactions. This thesis aimed: (i) to determine the bioavailable concentrations of Ca, Mg, and K and the Ca:Mg:K relationship in soils, as well as the relationship between extractants and element concentrations in soybean plants grown in a no-till system amended with lime and gypsum; (ii) to evaluate the efficiency of extractants for Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn in soils amended with sewage sludge over 13 years and cultivation with maize; (iii) to compare methods of digesting soil samples to quantify Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn in soils amended with sewage sludge over 13 years and in soils amended with sewage sludge and composted sludge on a single application; and (iv) to assess the quality and degree of humification of OM in soils amended with OM under different management practices. Among the hypotheses tested were: (i) that higher OM concentrations in no-till system soils and amendment with lime and gypsum would lead to an overestimate in the nutrient concentrations extracted by resin; (ii) that the large amounts of organic compounds contributed by amendment with sewage sludge over a long time period would diminish the extraction strength of complexing solutions; (iii) that higher concentrations of soil OM would hamper digestion of the soil samples, making a mixture of HNO3 and HCl the most efficient; and (iv) that no-till areas would be distinguishable from areas amended with sewage sludge by organic compounds, with the degree of humification of OM higher in no-till areas. There was a significant correlation between extractants for Ca, Mg, and K, but no correlation between elemental concentrations in soils and concentrations in soybean plants; amendment with lime and gypsum had no effect on the concentrations of these elements in soybean. In the experiment involving soil amended for 13 years with sewage sludge there was only a significant correlation between Mn and Zn concentrations in soils and those in plants. Acidic solutions extracted larger quantities of micronutrients. In general, concentrations extracted by aqua regia were close to total soil concentrations, and an effect of amendment with sludge was only observed for Cu and Zn in the long-term experiment. The physical fractionation of OM was the most efficient method for correlating with the management systems. The predominant organic compounds as determined by nuclear magnetic resonance were similar across the study areas.

Partiu-se das hipóteses: (i) o maior teor de MO do solo oriundo do sistema conservacionista e as doses de calcário e gesso promoverão superestimativa da concentração dos nutrientes extraídos pela resina; (ii) a maior quantidade de compostos orgânicos oriundos da aplicação de lodo de esgoto por longo período de tempo diminuirá o poder de extração das soluções complexantes; (iii) o maior teor de matéria orgânica do solo dificultará a abertura da amostra, sendo mais eficiente a mistura de HNO3 e HCl; e (iv) as áreas de plantio direto serão separadas das áreas tratadas com lodo de esgoto pelos compostos orgânicos e o grau de humificação da MO será mais elevado nas áreas de SSD. Houve correlação significativa entre os extratores para Ca, Mg e K, mas não entre teores no solo e a concentração na planta, e não houve efeito da aplicação de calcário e gesso nas concentrações desses elementos na soja. No experimento de solo tratado por treze anos com lodo de esgoto foi observada correlação significativa entre os teores no solo e o acumulado na planta somente para Mn e Zn. As soluções ácidas extraíram maiores quantidades dos micronutrientes. No geral, os teores extraídos pela água régia aproximaram-se dos teores totais no solo, sendo observado efeito da aplicação de resíduo somente para Cu e Zn no experimento de longa duração. O fracionamento físico da MO foi mais eficiente para distinguir os manejos a que os solos foram submetidos. As áreas apresentaram similaridade em relação aos compostos orgânicos predominantes determinados por ressonância magnética nuclear. / An increase in the amount of Brazilian agricultural areas managed under no-till farming systems has been observed in recent years. In the same period has seen increasing demand for information on the variability in the soil fertility indices on which liming and fertilization recommendations are based. This variation is of concern to technicians and researchers working in regional networks of soil analysis laboratories, and to the agencies responsible for establishing recommendations for fertilizing soils. The accumulation of organic matter (OM) in soils may affect the efficiency of chemical extractants by causing physical and chemical alterations to soils, including ion-exchange reactions, reactions with soil minerals, liberation of organic anions, complexation of metallic cations, and oxi-redox reactions. This thesis aimed: (i) to determine the bioavailable concentrations of Ca, Mg, and K and the Ca:Mg:K relationship in soils, as well as the relationship between extractants and element concentrations in soybean plants grown in a no-till system amended with lime and gypsum; (ii) to evaluate the efficiency of extractants for Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn in soils amended with sewage sludge over 13 years and cultivation with maize; (iii) to compare methods of digesting soil samples to quantify Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn in soils amended with sewage sludge over 13 years and in soils amended with sewage sludge and composted sludge on a single application; and (iv) to assess the quality and degree of humification of OM in soils amended with OM under different management practices. Among the hypotheses tested were: (i) that higher OM concentrations in no-till system soils and amendment with lime and gypsum would lead to an overestimate in the nutrient concentrations extracted by resin; (ii) that the large amounts of organic compounds contributed by amendment with sewage sludge over a long time period would diminish the extraction strength of complexing solutions; (iii) that higher concentrations of soil OM would hamper digestion of the soil samples, making a mixture of HNO3 and HCl the most efficient; and (iv) that no-till areas would be distinguishable from areas amended with sewage sludge by organic compounds, with the degree of humification of OM higher in no-till areas. There was a significant correlation between extractants for Ca, Mg, and K, but no correlation between elemental concentrations in soils and concentrations in soybean plants; amendment with lime and gypsum had no effect on the concentrations of these elements in soybean. In the experiment involving soil amended for 13 years with sewage sludge there was only a significant correlation between Mn and Zn concentrations in soils and those in plants. Acidic solutions extracted larger quantities of micronutrients. In general, concentrations extracted by aqua regia were close to total soil concentrations, and an effect of amendment with sludge was only observed for Cu and Zn in the long-term experiment. The physical fractionation of OM was the most efficient method for correlating with the management systems. The predominant organic compounds as determined by nuclear magnetic resonance were similar across the study areas.

This degradation is considered one of the greatest threats to the rainforest due to depletion of phosphorus (P), the decline in soil organic matter (SOM) and the loss of basic cations. two kinds of high quality waste were used: (Leucaena leucocephala and Gliricidia sepium), and two species of low quality waste (Clitoria fairchildiana and Acacia mangium). The 1600m2 area was sampled for carrying out chemical analysis and fractionation of organic matter and soil phosphorus. The SOM was separated by density fractionation soil. Fractionation of P in soil was carried out with extraction solutions. The experimental design was randomized blocks: leucena + sombrero (L + S); leucena + acacia (L + A); gliricidia + acacia (G + A); gliricidia + sombrero (G + S) and control treatment without pulses with five treatments and eight repetitions. The corn was used as test culture. Legumes were pruned to 50 cm of soil waste materials were added to the surface and then the corn was sown. All soil samples of the experiment in alleys had low pH values. The results show statistical differences between treatments when to soil organic matter (SOM). The highest levels were found in the treatment leucena + sombrero (L + S), but did not influence the carbon stock of Fractions Take Free (FLL), Intra-aggregate fractions (FLI) and MOP MOS, which showed no statistical difference. Therefore, in accordance cutting alleys, most of the P found in inorganic form, and was also found in fractions moderately labile and difficult. The results indicate that the fractions of P and organic matter are important indicators to evaluate changes in the degree of land degradation in the humid tropics. These results also indicate that the intensive and continuous use of annual crops in soils of the regions of the Amazon without any conservation practice can be considered as a high risk to the sustainability of agricultural systems, mainly because of increased active and potential acidity, reducing labile organic matter and depletion of organic P pools, leading to soil degradation. Soil fertility, physical properties and available P are responsible for the variability of soil degradation. Considering that small farmers are responsible for 70% of agricultural production in the country, the sustainable management of these soils, usually of low fertility by agroecological alley cropping of legumes is an alternative to agriculture as socioeconomic and environmental benefits. / O uso de indicadores químicos serve para avaliar a qualidade do solo em um sistema de cultivo em aleias. A degradação do solo de sistemas agrícolas da Amazônia, pela conversão da floresta para esses sistemas agrícolas, incompatíveis com as condições edafoclimáticas desta região é considerada uma das maiores ameaças para os solos tropicais devido à depleção de fósforo (P), a diminuição da matéria orgânica do solo (MOS) e a perda de cátions básicos. Esta Tese teve o objetivo de avaliar os principais indicadores químicos de qualidade do solo (matéria orgânica e seus compartimentos, pH, frações do fósforo (P), potássio (K) e o somatório de cálcio (Ca) e magnésio trocáveis (Mg)) após dois anos de plantio em um ARGISSOLO VERMELHO AMARELO Distrocoeso sobre um sistema de cultivo em aleias. Foram utilizadas duas espécies de alta qualidade de resíduos: (Leucaena leucocephala e Gliricídia sepium), e duas espécies de baixa qualidade de resíduos (Clitoria fairchildiana e Acacia mangium). A área de 1600m2 foi amostrada, para realização das análises químicas (IAC, 2001) e fracionamento densimétrico e granulométrico da MOS (MACHADO, 2002). O fracionamento de P no solo foi realizado com soluções extratoras, conforme Hedley et al. (1982) com as modificações de Condron et al. (1985), adaptado de Gatiboni (2003). O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualisados com cinco tratamentos e oito repetições: leucena+sombreiro (L+S); leucena+acácia (L+A); gliricídia+acácia (G+A); gliricídia+sombreiro (G+S) e tratamento controle sem leguminosas. O milho foi utilizado como cultura teste. As leguminosas foram podadas a 50 cm do solo e seus resíduos foram adicionados à superfície e em seguida o milho foi semeado. Todas as amostras do solo do experimento em aleias apresentaram valores baixos de pH. Houve diferenças estatísticas entre os tratamentos para a MOS. Os maiores teores foram encontrados no tratamento leucena+sombreiro (L+S), mas não influenciou nos estoque de carbono das Frações Leve Livre (FLL), Frações Intra-agregadas (FLI) e Matéria Orgânica Particulada (MOP) da MOS, que não apresentaram diferença estatística. Por conseguinte, após o corte das aleias, a maior parte do P foi encontrada numa forma inorgânica, e também foi encontrada nas frações moderadamente e dificilmente lábeis. Os resultados indicam que as frações de P e matéria orgânica são importantes indicadores para avaliar mudanças no grau de degradação da terra nos trópicos úmidos. Estes resultados indicam também que o uso intensivo e contínuo das culturas anuais nos solos das regiões da Amazônia sem nenhuma prática conservacionista pode ser considerado como um risco elevado para a sustentabilidade dos agrossistemas, principalmente por causa do aumento da acidez ativa e potencial, a redução da matéria orgânica lábil e o esgotamento dos pools de P orgânico, levando à degradação do solo. A fertilidade do solo, propriedades físicas e P disponível são responsáveis pela variabilidade da degradação do solo. Considerando-se que os pequenos agricultores respondem por 70% da produção agrícola no país, a adoção do manejo sustentável dos solos cultivados, geralmente de baixa fertilidade natural com sistema em aleias de leguminosas é uma alternativa para a agricultura com benefícios socioeconômicos e ambientais.

Thermodynamic properties of humid air and their application in advanced power generation cycles

Water or steam is added into the working fluid (often air) in gas turbines to improve the performance of gas turbine cycles. A typical application is the humidified gas turbine that has the potential to give high efficiencies, high specific power output, low emissions and low specific investment. A heat recovery system is integrated in the cycle with a humidifier for moisturizing the high-pressure air from the compressor as a kernel. Based on today’s gas turbines, the operating temperature and pressure in the humidifier are up to about 523 K and 40 bar, respectively. The operating temperature of the heat exchanger after the humidifier is up to 1773 K. The technology of water or steam addition is also used in the process of compressed air energy storage (CAES), and the operating pressure is up to 150 bar. Reliable thermodynamic properties of humid air are crucial for the process simulation and the traceable performance tests of turbomachinery and heat exchanger in the cycles. Several models have been proposed. However, the application range is limited to 400 K and 100 bar because of the limited experimental data for humid air. It is necessary to investigate the thermodynamic properties of humid air at elevated temperatures and pressures to fill in the knowledge gap. In this thesis, a new model is proposed based on the modified Redlich-Kwong equation of state in which a new cross interaction parameter between molecular oxygen and water is obtained from the fitting of the experimental data of oxygen-water system. The liquid phase is assumed to follow Henry’s law to calculate the saturated composition. The results of the new model are verified by the experimental data of nitrogen-water and oxygen-water systems from ambient temperature and pressure to 523 K and 200 bar, respectively. Properties of air-water system are predicted without any additional parameter and compared with the available experimental data to demonstrate the reliability of the new model for air-water system. The results of air-water system predicted using the new model are compared with those calculated using other real models. The comparison reveals that the new model has the same calculation accuracy as the best available model but can be used to a wider temperature and pressure range. The results of the new model are also compared with those of the ideal model and the ideal mixing model from ambient temperature and pressure to 1773 K and 200 bar to investigate the effect of the models on the thermodynamic properties of humid air. To investigate the impact of thermodynamic properties on the simulation of systems and their components, different models (ideal model, ideal mixing model and two real models) are used to calculate the thermodynamic properties of humid air in the simulation of the compressor, humidification tower, and heat exchanger in a humidified gas turbine cycle. The simulation reveals that a careful selection of a thermodynamic property model is crucial for the cycle design. The simulation results provide a useful tool for predicting the performance of the system and designing the humidified cycle components and systems. / QC 20100902

Purpose To investigate the possibility to reduce the number of failures caused by moisture and dust ingress in lighting equipment by looking towards customer acceptance and warranty claims, and then translate the result to technical attributes. Methodology The methodology is set up to be a part of a Design for Six Sigma project including the steps up to Concept development and business/customer approval. Known product development tools are used to evaluate existing techniques and generate new concepts. Customer analysis is done by surveys and investigating warranty claims. Result & Conclusions The customer analysis in this thesis show that Brazil and to some extent UK is the countries where the problem is seen as most severe. It also shows that complaints regarding dust are far more common than complaints regarding moisture when it comes to lamps placed at the lower part at the front of the truck. When the results from the customer analysis are compared with the technical aspects it shows that the most beneficial way to deal with the problem is to create a good air flow while still keeping the pore size, which could be done by using membranes and the help from CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations. Trapping solutions are also welcomed by the customer as long as they can be part of the regular service. / Syfte Att undersöka behov och möjligheter att reducera problem med fukt och damminträngning i exteriöra belysningsartiklar på lastbilar genom att titta på kundacceptans och garantiärenden samt översätta detta till tekniska attribut. Metod Arbetet är upplagt som en del av ett Design for Six Sigma-projekt och innefattar stegen fram till Concept development and business/customer approval. Kända produktutvecklingsverktyg används för att ta fram underlag till konceptgenerering. Kundanalys utförs med hjälp av enkäter och undersökningar av garantiärenden. Resultat & slutsats Kundanalysen i denna examensrapport visar att Brasilien och Storbritannien är de länder där problemet uppfattas som störst. Den visar också att klagomål gällande damm är mycket vanligare än klagomål gällande fukt när det gäller lyktor placerade i den nedre delen i fronten på lastbilen. När resultaten från kundanalysen jämförs med de tekniska aspekterna finner man att det mest gynnsamma sättet att ta sig an problemet är att försöka få bra ett bra luftflöde i lyktorna men samtidigt minimera porstorleken. Detta kan man åstadkomma med hjälp av membran och CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simuleringar. Lösningar som handlar om att fånga upp dammet och fukten accepteras också av kunden så länge som detta kan lösas med hjälp av den vanliga servicen.

Analysis of Innovative HVAC System Technologies and Their Application for Office Buildings in Hot and Humid Climates

The commercial buildings sector in the United States used 18 percent (17.93 Quads) of the U.S. primary energy in 2006. Office buildings are the largest single energy consumption category in the commercial buildings sector of the United States with annual energy consumption around 1.1 Quads. Traditional approaches used in commercial building designs are not adequate to save energy in both depth and scale. One of the most effective ways to reduce energy consumption is to improve energy performance of HVAC systems. High-performance HVAC systems and components, as well as application of renewable energy sources, were surveyed for buildings in hot and humid climates. An analysis of performance and energy saving potential estimation for selected HVAC systems in hot and humid climates was developed based on energy consumption simulation models in DOE-2.1E. A calibrated energy consumption model of an existing office building located in the hot and humid climate conditions of Texas was developed. Based on this model, the energy saving potential of the building was estimated. In addition, energy consumption simulation models were developed for a new office building, including simulation of energy saving measures that could be achieved with further improvements of HVAC system above the energy conservation codes requirements. The theoretical minimum energy consumption level for the same office building was estimated for the purpose of evaluating the whole building energy efficiency level. The theoretical minimum energy consumption model of the office building was designed to provide the same level of comfort and services to the building occupants as provided in the actual building simulation model. Finally, the energy efficiency of the building that satisfies valid energy conservation codes and the building with an improved HVAC system was estimated based on theoretically minimum energy consumption level. The analysis provided herein can be used for new building practitioners and existing building owners to evaluate energy reduction potential and the performance of innovative technologies such as dedicated outdoor air system, displacement ventilation, improved cooling system efficiency, air source heat pumps and natural gas heat pumps.
