Energy Analysis within Industrial Hydraulics and Correspondent Solar PV System Design

Absalyamova, Viktoriya January 2010 (has links)
Energy efficiency and renewable energy use are two main priorities leading to industrial sustainability nowadays according to European Steel Technology Platform (ESTP). Modernization efforts can be done by industries to improve energy consumptions of the production lines. These days, steel making industrial applications are energy and emission intensive. It was estimated that over the past years, energy consumption and corresponding CO2 generation has increased steadily reaching approximately 338.15 parts per million in august 2010 [1]. These kinds of facts and statistics have introduced a lot of room for improvement in energy efficiency for industrial applications through modernization and use of renewable energy sources such as solar Photovoltaic Systems (PV).The purpose of this thesis work is to make a preliminary design and simulation of the solar photovoltaic system which would attempt to cover the energy demand of the initial part of the pickling line hydraulic system at the SSAB steel plant. For this purpose, the energy consumptions of this hydraulic system would be studied and evaluated and a general analysis of the hydraulic and control components performance would be done which would yield a proper set of guidelines contributing towards future energy savings. The results of the energy efficiency analysis showed that the initial part of the pickling line hydraulic system worked with a low efficiency of 3.3%. Results of general analysis showed that hydraulic accumulators of 650 liter size should be used by the initial part pickling line system in combination with a one pump delivery of 100 l/min. Based on this, one PV system can deliver energy to an AC motor-pump set covering 17.6% of total energy and another PV system can supply a DC hydraulic pump substituting 26.7% of the demand. The first system used 290 m2 area of the roof and was sized as 40 kWp, the second used 109 m2 and was sized as 15.2 kWp. It was concluded that the reason for the low efficiency was the oversized design of the system. Incremental modernization efforts could help to improve the hydraulic system energy efficiency and make the design of the solar photovoltaic system realistically possible. Two types of PV systems where analyzed in the thesis work. A method was found calculating the load simulation sequence based on the energy efficiency studies to help in the PV system simulations. Hydraulic accumulators integrated into the pickling line worked as energy storage when being charged by the PV system as well.

Evaluierung des Einsparpotentials durch Energierückgewinnung aus dem hybraulischen Kreislauf eines Hafenmobilkrans / Estimation of the Energy Saving Potential through Energy Recovery in the Hydraulic System of a Mobile Harbour Crane

Tempelhahn, Conny 19 June 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Due to stricter emission restrictions and rising fuel costs energy efficiency of mobile work machines is getting more important. In cooperation with Dresden University of Technology, Gottwald Port Technology GmbH has developed a mobile harbour crane with a hybrid drive train. This system can recuperate the kinetic and potential energy from the electrical slewing and hoisting gear, which was formerly dissipated to heat. This paper deals with the identification of a technical solution to recuperate energy form the hydraulic luffing gear to determine the potential reduction of fuel consumption. At first, the actual hydraulic system is analyzed to estimate the requirements of the new recuperation system. For that purpose, models of the kinematics and kinetics of the luffing gear are created. With the help of weighted criteria, a hydraulic concept is chosen of several alternatives. Afterwards, an energy flow based model in Simulink/Matlab is created and integrated in the existing simulation model of the crane. The simulation results confirm a considerable reduction of diesel fuel due to the application of hydraulic recuperation system.

L’urbanisme et les aménagements hydrauliques de Termessos / Urbanism and hydraulic installations of Termessos

Kürkçü, Mehmet 29 November 2014 (has links)
The aim of this PhD is not only to focus on Termessos' hydraulic settlement, which has been erected on a sourceless location, but also to examine all explorable structures in order to define their socio-Historical interest and highlight their value to the understanding of hellenistic and roman times. We have started by studying the written sources and by conducting extensive research on site. Different technics have been employed such as georadar technology (Ground Penetration Radar, GPR) and vapour magnetometer (gradiometer) in order to collect data during the six archaeological prospections which took place between 2010 and 2013. Researchers from various disciplines have brought their expertise to this work : architects, geographers, geologists, hydrologists and archaeologists. During this investigation, many ancient sites have been explored in Anatolia, Greece, France and Spain in order to understand the evolution of the hydraulic system with regard to geographical requirements. Followings this, 162 hydraulic structures have been studied and registered. The irrigation and water supply network as well as the sewerage system have been restored. We have discovered two new types of ancient tank, a well preserved water dam, an entertainment building and the only sanctuary dedicated to Pan found in Anatolia so far. The remains of two establishments have been interpreted as thermal baths. Most of all, and despite a challenging natural environment, the Termessians have romanized their city by carrying out great major construction projects allowing them to fulfill their water needs and to celebrate their power.

The roof wing opening system of the UAE pavilion at EXPO 2020

Leutenegger, Paolo, Vergano, Carlo, Herzinger, Rainer, Weber, Jürgen, Bassetto, Nicola, Belluschi, Fabio, Cardani, Riccardo, Costin, Ina, Codari, Costanzo, Ferla, Stefano, Forti, Giovanni, Köhler, Simon, Maddalon, Roberto, Pari, Gino, Panev, Daniel, Pavanetto, Michele, Poli, Christian, Ripamonti, Massimo, Rossignoli, Alessandro, Trau, Matteo, Uhlmann, Jonas, Zaltieri, Renzo 26 June 2020 (has links)
The UAE Pavilion will be a major attraction at Expo 2020 in Dubai. The roof of the building consists of 28 operable wings made of carbon and glass fiber, having masses ranging from 5 to 18 tons and total lengths in the range of 30 to 65 m that have to be actuated by a dedicated mechanism. In this paper we present the turn-key project for the design, manufacturing, installation, test and commissioning of the Roof Wing Opening System, which represents a unique system world-wide for operating the wings. It consists of one Hydraulic Power Unit with approximately 1 MW of installed power, 2 km of piping working at the nominal pressure of 210 bar, 46 hydraulic cylinders with 1.5 tons of mass each and the complete automation and control subsystem that includes 9 separate PLCs, dedicated software, 2.000 sensors and control points, and over 20 km of harness. One major challenge is the control of the wings. Part of them, due to their huge dimensions and masses, are actuated using two or three hydraulic cylinders that have to be properly synchronized during the movement, preventing unwanted displacements in order to avoid stresses on the wing mechanical structure and ultimately permanent damages. Due to the nature of the project, a final validation of the control algorithms can be done only at system level during the commissioning phase. Therefore, particular care has to be devoted to the verification strategy, anticipating the behavior of the system in the early validation stages and following a V-model approach, in order to identify critical situations and reduce the overall risk. After a brief system description, we will explain how the verification has been approached by using system level simulations and dedicated testing activities on specific subsystems. In particular, we will detail the verification of the control algorithms that has been performed on a dedicated Hardware-Inthe- Loop system first, followed then by dedicated tests on a reduced wing mock-up, allowing the study of the system behavior under the most critical conditions. These include the application of external forces with specified profiles. Finally, we will provide the actual status of the system installation, testing and commissioning activities that have been running in Dubai since January 2019.

Production 4.0 of Ring Mill 4 Ovako AB

Hassan, Muhammad January 2020 (has links)
Cyber-Physical System (CPS) or Digital-Twin approach are becoming popular in industry 4.0 revolution. CPS not only allow to view the online status of equipment, but also allow to predict the health of tool. Based on the real time sensor data, it aims to detect anomalies in the industrial operation and prefigure future failure, which lead it towards smart maintenance. CPS can contribute to sustainable environment as well as sustainable production, due to its real-time analysis on production. In this thesis, we analyzed the behavior of a tool of Ringvalsverk 4, at Ovako with its twin model (known as Digital-Twin) over a series of data. Initially, the data contained unwanted signals which is then cleaned in the data processing phase, and only before production signal is used to identify the tool’s model. Matlab’s system identification toolbox is used for identifying the system model, the identified model is also validated and analyzed in term of stability, which is then used in CPS. The Digital-Twin model is then used and its output being analyzed together with tool’s output to detect when its start deviate from normal behavior.
