ETT JÄMSTÄLLTKLASSRUM? : En kvalitativ undersökning avvilken förmåga lärare har att jobba med jämställdhet i sina klassrum / The equality between sexes in the classroom. : A qualitative study of teacher's ability to work with equality between sexes in their classroom.Wass, Johan January 2022 (has links)
The equality between sexes in the classroom. A qualitative study of teacher’s ability to work with equality between sexesin their classroom. This essay looks at how teachers reflect over their own knowledge about equality betweenthe sexes and how that impacts the work they do in the classroom. It’s a qualitative studythat uses interviews as the method of gathering information. To analyze the results this essay combines two theories; the socio-cultural perspective that explains how children acquirenew knowledge and the gender contract theory from Yvonne Hirdman that explains how gender roles gets reproduced in society. The result shows that there is a significant difference between teachers depending on what subject they teach. The teachers that teachsocial science has the best knowledge of equality between sexes. The result furthermore shows that the education that is offered to the teachers is too theoretic which makes it hardfor them to transform the information into something they can use in the classroom. Therefore, the teachers wanted to change the education they are offered. Instead of the theoretical education they wanted a more practical education. This would help them use theinformation inside the classrooms.

The Colorado Plateau as a Virtual Laboratory for Mobile Games for Geoscience Education and Relations Between Rock Strength and River MetricsBursztyn, Natalie 01 August 2015 (has links)
This dissertation encompasses two studies: one developing virtual field trips for mobile devices for an innovative approach to lower-division geoscience education, and the other examining the role of rock strength in river erosion and landscape evolution.
The education study involves the development of three virtual field trip modules (Geologic Time, Geologic Structures, and Hydrologic Processes, all free on iTunes and Google Play) that lead students down a virtual Colorado River through Grand Canyon by physically moving around their campus quad, football field or other location, using their GPS-equipped smart phone or tablet. As students reach each location in the scaled down and geo-referenced virtual Grand Canyon, an informative video appears with a themed geological question and an interactive touchscreen activity. The effectiveness of these three modules in terms of student engagement and learning was tested at five U.S. Colleges with a range of missions and student demographics. Results show that the virtual field trip modules are effective at increasing student interest across races and genders in the geosciences, do not detract from student learning, and have the potential to increase content comprehension.
The second study is the examination of the relation between rock strength and topography in the Colorado Plateau. This work contributes empirical data to the age-old debate over the mechanisms and patterns of stream erosion through statistical relations between rock strength and stream power, river steepness, and valley width along the Green-Colorado River system. Estimates of an “effective” tensile strength were calculated for units too incompetent to test directly, such as the shales prevalent in the region. Results indicate bedrock strength is a first-order control on river erosion in this landscape, as suggested by John Wesley Powell in 1896: “where the rocks are firm and stable, corrasion [sic] of the stream is slow; where the rocks are soft, corrasion [sic] is more rapid,” which is intuitive yet frequently overlooked.

The Relationship Between Attachment, Couple Conflict, and Recovery From ConflictTaylor, Nathan C. 01 December 2014 (has links)
Researchers have begun to utilize advances in technology to complement self-reports in an effort to understand intrapersonal and interpersonal factors that are involved in conflict. The objective of this study was to use skin conductance to measure physiological arousal during and after couple conflict to provide clarity to the association between attachment styles, physiological reactivity to conflict, and recovery from couple conflict. Ten couples (n = 20) were connected to skin conductance equipment while engaging in a 10-minute conflict task, and a distraction task and discussion that was used to represent recovery from conflict. The t-tests results showed that the difference from baseline scores for gender and attachment styles were not significant. Bivariate correlation analysis was used for descriptive variables and attachment and physiological arousal. Multiple regressions were used to analyze skin conductance difference scores with attachment avoidance and anxiety. Results showed that attachment anxiety was associated with greater physiological reactivity during the conflict and recovery portions of the study. These findings are the first to link attachment anxiety and physiological reactivity with the use of skin conductance as a measure of physiological arousal. The results from the multiple regressions for avoidant attachment were not significant. The implications for the study include a methodology for future researchers to follow to study attachment, conflict, and recovery from conflict. Clinical implications are also present in that the study highlights the importance of assessing for attachment styles when working with couples to better understand physiological reactions during and after conflict, and emphasizes the utility of biofeedback devices to facilitate emotional regulation. Research implications are also discussed.

När kärleken tar slut : En studie om separationer ur ett genusperspektiv / When love ends : A study on seperation from a gender perspectiveElla, Ericsson, Malin, Tillman January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate separations from a gender perspective. Gender research has focused on the division of housework, economy and equality between men and women. To investigate separations from a gender perspective eight interviews with four separated women and four separated men were conducted. To analyze the empirical data the gender theory is used which illustrates the social gender. The study may contribute to research that sheds light on separation from a gender perspective. The results showed that the division of household labour, changes in the parental role and sharing of economical as well as social resources were gendered practices. The main finding of the study is that separation is a gendered process which is explained by the help of Yvonne Hirdmans theory on the balance of power between the sexes in marriages.

Longitudinal monitoring of biomechanical and psychological stress in collegiate female basketball athletes: Implications to sports performance and injury susceptibilityKeogh, Joshua A.J. January 2023 (has links)
The unprecedented growth in participation in collegiate athletics has been accompanied by an increase in injury burden. The complex and multifactorial nature of sports injuries highlights the importance of monitoring athletes prospectively using a novel and holistic biopsychosocial approach, as opposed to contemporary practices that silo these facets of health. Data collected over two competitive, basketball seasons were used in a principal component analysis (PCA) model with the following objectives: i) Determine if on-court, sensor-derived and force-plate-derived countermovement jump (CMJ) biomechanics were correlated, ii) determine the reliability of the biomechanical principal components (PCs) and psychological state metrics (e.g., self-reported pain, etc.) across five preseason weeks, iii) investigate whether biomechanical PCs were correlated with psychological state across a season, and iv) explore whether subject-specific meaningful fluctuations could be detected using minimum detectable change statistics. Weekly CMJ (force plates) and on-court data (inertial measurement units), as well as psychological state (questionnaire) data were collected on the women’s basketball team at McMaster University for two seasons. It was found that on-court and CMJ biomechanics were correlated both between and within systems (r = |0.10, 0.94|; p < 0.05), suggesting that PCA would be an effective method to summarize data. The derived PCs displayed excellent reliability (ICC > 0.9), while psychological state metrics displayed moderate-to-good reliability (ICC = 0.71 – 0.89). While many relationships (n = 27) were identified between biomechanical PCs and psychological state metrics, no overarching associations were identified at the group level. However, subject-specific relationships were identified in case-studies, highlighting the potential utility of “red-flagging” meaningful fluctuations from normative biomechanical and psychological patterns. Overall, this work demonstrates the potential of advanced analytical modeling to characterize components of student-athlete performance, health, and well-being, and the need for more tailored and patient-centered athletic monitoring practices. / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

A Comparison of WAP Development in C# and Java.Javed, Omar Saleem 01 December 2001 (has links) (PDF)
Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is the current de-facto standard for communication used by the world wide web (WWW) for wireless devices. WAP application development consists of software development in the Wireless Markup Language (WML) and the WML scripting language. The WAP development programming model is similar to the WWW programming model. However, there are a few design considerations that a developer has to keep in mind such as small display size, limited bandwidth, different session management techniques, and security aspects.
Generation of dynamic content for WAP devices can be done in a variety of server side languages. C# and Java are two of those languages. Numerical computations and database access performance are important in WAP development. C# and Java have been compared in the context of several performance aspects, event handling programming models using delegates and inner classes, security models, and rapid application development facilities.
