Implementering av lean på en informationsprocess i en produktutvecklingsmiljö : En fallstudie på Saab AB / Lean Implementation on an Information Process in a Product Developement Environment : A Case Study at Saab AB

Denna studie behandlar implementering av lean på en informationsprocess för fel- och avvikelserapportering i produktutvecklingen hos Saab AB, under affärsområdet Security and Defence Solutions (SDS) och sektionen Command & Control Systems (C2S). Målet med studien är att genom kartläggning av informationsflödet analysera hur leanfilosofi och leanmetoder kan implementeras för att utvärdera och förbättra informationsprocesser samt vilket problematik som finns förknippat med detta och kan avhjälpas av detta. Studiens mål är även att analysera hur mätetal kan användas för att mäta effektivitet och att se vilka potentiella risker som finns förknippat med detta samt så är målet att analysera hur ett företags organisationskultur påverkar flödet i informationsprocessen samt en implementering av lean. Uppgiften löstes genom att skapa en gedigen kunskap inom området genom teoretiska källor och simultant så utfördes en omfattande fallstudie med 21 kvalitativa intervjuer som huvudsaklig bas där flera perspektiv framkom som bidrog till en övergripande kartläggning över informationsflödet. Det empiriska materialet analyserades gentemot det teoretiska ramverket, där Likers 14 identifierade principer för implementering fungerat som utgångspunkt, vilket ledde fram till att ett flertal slutsatser kunde dras. Slutsatserna sammanfattas och illustreras i en figur som påvisar den generella problematik som behöver begrundas vid ett införande liknande det analyserade. I figuren belyser vi slutsatsen att företagskulturen genomsyrar varje steg av implementeringen av lean och att det första steget måste vara att se till så att kulturen är mottaglig för implementeringen och den förändring det innebär. Detta illustreras genom en organisationskulturgrund som stödjer hela den fortsatta implementeringen. I figuren belyses sedan problematikerna: stress och tidsbrist, informell felrapportering, IT-problematik, mätetal – visualisering samt bristfällig kommunikation. Slutsatsen som dras är att dessa problematiker, samt förändringsovilja inom företagskulturen, måste begrundas vid ett införande av lean och som också kan avhjälpas vid en implementering. / This study deals with lean implementation on an information process for the error and deviation handling in the product development at Saab AB, the business area Security and Defence Solutions (SDS) and the section Command & Control Systems (C2S). The purpose of this study is to analyze how the lean philosophy and lean methods can be implemented to evaluate and improve information processes. The purpose is also to identify the problems that are associated with this and can be helped by this. The aim of the study is also to investigate how metrics can be used to measure effectiveness and to identify the potential risks that are associated with this and finally the aim is to analyze how a company's organizational culture affects the flow of an information process and an implementation of lean. The task was solved by first creating a solid knowledge in the field through theoretical sources, and an extensive case study of 21 qualitative interviews was conducted. Several perspectives emerged that contributed to an extensive mapping over the information flow. The empirical data were analyzed against the theoretical framework, where Liker´s 14 identified principles for implementation served as a starting point, which led to several conclusions. The conclusions are summarized and illustrated in a figure that shows the general problems that need to be looked in to when implementing lean on a similar process to that in the case study. The figure illustrates our conclusion that the corporate culture affects every step of the implementation of lean and that the first step must be to ensure that culture is receptive to the implementation and the change it implies. In the figure we illustrate this with an organizational culture that supports the entire basis of the implementation. The figure highlights the problems identified through the empirics and the analysis: stress and time constraints, informal bug tracking, IT issues, metrics - visualization and poor communication. The conclusion that is drawn is that these problematic, and the reluctance to change in corporate culture, needs to be considered when implementing lean and also that these problematic can be remedied with and implementation.

Den ökade användningen av internet bland befolkningen har gjort att konsumenterna idag har lättare att införskaffa information om företag, produkter och tjänster samt göra prisjämförelser. På så vis besitter konsumenterna mer kunskaper om produkternas egenskaper. Konsumenterna söker information om produktens egenskaper och gör prisjämförelser genom olika interaktionspunkter. Istället för att påverkas av de traditionella marknadsföringsåtgärderna är det istället konsumenterna som styr sig egen informationssökningsprocess och köpprocess. Våra medverkande respondenters medvetenhet och informationssöknings möjlighet gör att köpprocessen ser annorlunda ut mellan de olika sysselsättningarna. Där pensionärerna tillsammans med arbetarna sticker ut i flera enkätfrågor jämfört med resterande sysselsättningar. Syftet med studien är att analysera hur konsumenternas informationssökning och köpprocess av hemelektronikprodukter ser ut. För att få en ökad förståelse om konsumenternas informationssöknings- och köpprocess av hemelektronikprodukter har material samlats in genom två enkätstudier som har bidragit till studiens genomföranden. Resultatet av studien baseras på informationssökning- och köpprocessen utifrån den moderna cirkulära köpprocessen med hänsyn av de fyra P: n. Resultatet visar att familj och vänner tillsammans med recensioner på internet är de källor som respondenterna förlitar sig mest på och som de anser är mest trovärdiga. Utifrån studiens analys och resultat kan vi dra slutsatsen att reklam på sociala medier är något som majoriteten av alla medverkande respondenter blir påverkade av men däremot är det färre som använder sociala medier vid informationssökningsprocessen. Hemelektronikproduktens miljöpåverkan är en viktig faktor för våra respondenter då flertalet av dessa aktivt väljer att köpa miljövänliga produkter, med kopplingar till att produkten har längre livslängd och lägre elförbrukning. / The increased use of the Internet among the population has made it easier for consumers today to obtain information about companies, products and services as well as price comparisons. In this way, consumers have more knowledge about the properties of the products. Consumers seek information about the product's characteristics and make price comparisons through different interaction points. Instead of being influenced by traditional marketing measures, consumers are instead controlling their own information-seeking process and buying process. The awareness of our participator respondents and the opportunity for information seeking makes the buying process different from the different pursuits. Where the retirees together with the workers stand out in several survey questions compared with the remaining pursuits. The purpose of the study is to analyze how consumers' information search and buying processes of consumer home electronics products look. To gain a better understanding of consumers information- and buying processes of consumer home electronics products, material has been collected through two surveys that have contributed to the study's implementation. The outcome of the study is based on the information- and buying process based on the modern circular buying process taking into consideration of the four Ps. The results show that family and friends along with online reviews are the sources that respondents rely mostly on and which they consider to be most credible. Based on the study's analysis and results, we can conclude that advertising on social media is something that most of all participating respondents are affected by, but on the other hand, fewer people use social media in the information-seeking process. The environmental impact of the home electronics product is an important factor for our respondents, as most of these actively choose to buy environmentally friendly products, coupled with the product's longevity and lower power consumption.

This thesis deals with the analysis, proposal and implementation of part of the information system for a selected subject, specifically the proposal of a website including a web application for content management of selected parts of the website. For a successful proposal solution it is very important the first analysis together with requirements of the contracting authority. The graphic design phase occurs after analysis and is followed by the development of the website and the application for content management. After testing and agreement of the proposal solution from the contracting authority the website and application are implemented to the server site. In the final part of the thesis an economic evaluation and benefit’s analysis of the proposal solution are done.

Based on these methods are discovered weaknesses and are proposed possible solutions for improving of information system effectiveness which leads to increasing of company performance and threads elimination.

在持續不斷的知識創造成為現今企業成功的主要來源時,傳統的有形資產已不足以衡量一間公司所俱有的價值,反而更應注重企業的無形資產所形成的競爭優勢。為了應付劇烈的企業競爭,企業在過去十年不斷的增加在資訊科技基礎建設及資訊系統上的投資,而現在正是要重新思考這些屬於無形資產的資訊科技相關投資價值的時候。 本研究嘗試先期的分析,基於價值鏈(Porter, 1985)的概念,利用會計交易循環為基礎,透過發展和辨識企業整體資訊有機體 ( Enterprise-Wide Information Organism, EWIO) 來透視企業整體資訊流的機制,就如同分析活生生的個體一般,來報導企業營運中所使用的企業整體資訊系統價值。 為了診斷公司的競爭優勢,我們提出這個企業整體資訊組織分析方法,來辨識、評估聯絡管道與接觸點,以及其實作。企業整體資訊組織之分析方法含有四個步驟,依序為(1)定義企業內部、外部組織圖,(2)定義關鍵性的系統表,(3)定義關鍵性的功能表,(4)定義關鍵性的實作表。 最後,我們挑選了一家製造業的公司來展現我們的研究成果。 / When the continuous creation of knowledge becomes the source of the business success, the traditional tangible capital isn't affording to estimate the value of a company, in contrast, we should pay more attention to intangible capital in business competition. To cope with the intensified business competition, a firm’s spending on IT infrastructure and information systems has increased in the past decade that it is the time to retrospect on the value of the IT-related investment of intangible capital. This research attempts a preliminary analysis. Based on a value chain conceptual framework and the concept of accounting transaction cycles, we first put in perspective the mechanism of an enterprise-wide information flows through the enterprise-wide information organism (herein EWIO), an analogy of the organism of a living body, to report used by business operation via the development and identification. To diagnose a firm’s competitive advantage, it is better to have an analytic methodology to first identify all interesting linkages and points of contacts and then evaluate the practices of all these linkages and points of contact. Here we propose the EWIO analytical methodology to identify all interested linkages and points of contact, and their practices. There are four steps in the EWIO analytical methodology – (1) Identify (Inter- and Intra-) organization diagrams; (2) Identify interesting System tables; (3) Identify interesting Functionality tables; and (4) Identify interesting Practice tables. Finally, we do our method on a company of manufacturing to show the results of our research.

Control becomes a facilitator mechanism to these changes, and also a form of anticipation and adaptation to them. That being so, the general objective of this work consists in verifing how management control occurs at a public health unity of the Sistema Único de Saúde SUS particularly at the Gerência de Procedimentos de Alta Complexidade da Secretaria de Estado da Saúde/SC. This work starts with a bibliographic review, which shows an incursion on the systemic theory, emphasizing the approaches on the organization as a closed and mechanicist system, and as an opened and organic system. After, management process is approached and its phases are presented: planning, execution, and control. Later, the organization and its information systems are observed, focusing on data, information, and knowledge, as well as the information process flow, information system, its classification and, more specifically, management information system. Then an approach about management control is presented. The next chapter deals with the organization of public health, focusing on the health assistance in Brazil, and the types of assistance available, regarding specifically the Sistema Único de Saúde, its financial and legal aspects. The methodology used, considering the research problem, was the exploratory study, developed through a study of case under the cross-section perspective. Secondary data were collected from books, laws, magazines, newspapers, another periodics, dissertations, and Internet. Primary data were obtained through informal interviews and in loco informal observations. These data, collected at Gerência de Procedimentos de Alta Complexidade, were analyzed in a qualitative manner, focusing the developed activities, the information system, the information flow, and the existents management controls. The analyses results show that the unity-case adopts inadequate management controls to its complexity level. A new proposal of management controls is then presented, emphasizing the analyzed perspectives: the management information systems, the information process flow, and the management controls. Then the viability of implementing the proposed management control to the reality identified in the research is shown. The study ends concluding that it is urgent to implement the proposal and make recommendations for future researches regarding this subject / A utilização do controle de gestão torna-se cada vez mais necessária às organizações, em decorrência das contínuas mudanças no contexto social, que estão bastante imprevisíveis. O controle volta-se para essas mudanças, como mecanismo facilitador e de antecipação e adaptação a elas. Sendo assim, o objetivo geral deste trabalho consiste em verificar como ocorre o controle de gestão de uma unidade de saúde pública do Sistema Único de Saúde - SUS, particularmente na Gerência de Procedimentos de Alta Complexidade da Secretaria de Estado da Saúde de Santa Catarina. O trabalho inicia-se com a revisão bibliográfica, onde fazse uma incursão na teoria sistêmica, com ênfase nas abordagens da organização, como sistema fechado e mecanicista, e como sistema aberto e orgânico. Na seqüência, aborda-se o processo de gestão, apresentando suas etapas, isto é, planejamento, execução e controle. Em seguida, contempla-se a organização e seus sistemas de informações, enfocando dados, informações e conhecimento, bem como, fluxo do processo da informação, sistema de informações, sua classificação e, mais especificamente, sistema de informações gerenciais. Na seqüência, faz-se uma abordagem sobre controle de gestão. No capítulo seguinte, trata-se da organização da saúde pública, detalhando a assistência à saúde no Brasil, os tipos de assistência disponíveis, abordando, especificamente, o Sistema Único de Saúde, seus aspectos financeiros e jurídico-legais. A metodologia utilizada, considerando o problema de pesquisa, foi a de um estudo exploratório, desenvolvido através de um estudo de caso, sob a perspectiva de corte seccional. A coleta de dados secundários realizou-se através de livros, legislações, revistas, jornais, outros periódicos, dissertações e Internet. Os dados primários foram obtidos por entrevista informal e observação informal in loco. Esses dados, coletados junto à Gerência de Procedimentos de Alta Complexidade, foram analisados de maneira qualitativa, focando as atividades desenvolvidas, o sistema de informações, o fluxo da informação e os controles de gestão existentes. O resultado da análise demonstra que a unidade-caso adota controles de gestão não adequados ao seu nível de complexidade. A partir disso, então, apresenta-se uma proposta de controles de gestão, com ênfase nas perspectivas analisadas, isto é, no sistema de informações gerenciais, no fluxo do processo da informação e nos controles de gestão. Na seqüência, evidencia-se a viabilidade de alinhamento da realidade identificada com a proposta de controles de gestão apresentada. Finaliza-se o estudo concluindo que existe urgência em implantar a proposta e realizando recomendações para pesquisas futuras a respeito do tema

Developing a framework for a district-based information management system for mental health care in the Western Cape

Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / A review of the literature has shown that there is a lack of mental health information on which to base planning of mental health services and decisions concerning programme development for mental health services. Several studies have indicated that the use of an evidence-based health information system (HIS) reduces inappropriate clinical practices and promotes the quality of health care services. This study was aimed at developing a framework for a district-based mental health information management system, utilising the experiences of health care providers and caregivers about a district mental health information system (DMHIS). Activity Theory was used as the philosophical foundation of the information system for the study. A qualitative approach was employed using semi-structured individual interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), systematic review and document analysis. The intervention research design and development model of Rothman and Thomas (1994) was used to guide the study, which was conducted in the Cape Town Metropole area of the Western Cape. A purposive, convenient sampling method was employed to select study participants. Ethical clearance for the study was obtained from the University of the Western Cape, and permission to use the health facilities from the Department of Health. The data collection process involved 62 individual interview participants, from mental health nurses to district health managers, health information clerks, and patient caregivers/families and persons with stable mental conditions. Thirteen caregivers took part in the FGDs. Document review was conducted at three community mental health centres. The data were analysed manually using content analysis. Core findings of the interviews were lack of standardized information collection tools and contents for mental health, information infrastructure, capacity building, and resources. Information processing in terms of collection, compiling, analysing, feedback, access and sharing information were the major problems. Results from document analysis identified inconsistencies and inaccuracies of information recording and processing, which in turn affected the quality of information for decision making. Results from the systematic review identified five functional elements: organizational structure; information infrastructure; capacity building; inputs, process, output and feedback; and community and stakeholders’ participation in the design and implementation of a mental health information system (MHIS). The study has contributed a framework for a DMHIS based on the findings of the empirical and systematic review. It is recommended that there is a need to establish a HIS committee at district health facility level for effective implementation of the framework and quality information processing. There is a need to ensure that staffs have adequate knowledge and skills required for effective implementation of an information system. It is recommended that higher education institutions include a course on HISs in their curriculum. It is suggested that the South African Mental Health Policy be reviewed to include an MHIS and ensure involvement of the community and stakeholders in this system as well as adequate budget allocation.
