Ράπτης, Γεώργιος 04 October 2011 (has links)
This diploma thesis was prepared for the Human – Computer Interaction (HCI) Group of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of Patras. The main object of this thesis was the study of the interaction on collaborative groups using portable computers, and focused on the possibilities provided by the tablet computer to optimize the teaching process. The application that was used firstly was Synergo Supervisor Station, which is part of the wider platform Synergo. Some parts of its user interface were redesigned, and a new application was developed for watching the workspaces of collaborative groups in real time. That application is called Synergo Vision and it is part of the wider platform Synergo, as well. Synergo Vision can run as a standalone application and as plug-in for Synergo Supervisor Station. Using Synergo Vision the teacher is able to watch in real time the workspaces of the collaborative groups, the moves of each group member, send activities to the groups, communicate with them using text messages, taking the advantages of the table computers’ stylus and the use of the projector as an alternative form of an interactive whiteboard. During the development phase, we use recursive design with consecutive design, implementation and evaluation strategies.

Serdarevic, Selma January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine how four mathematics teachers in grades 4-6 use the digital tool interactive whiteboard as a didactic tool in teaching in the subject of mathematics in problem solving and which attitudes these mathematics teachers are applying for using interactive whiteboards in mathematics teaching in problem solving. This study aims to answer the two following questions: 1) In what way do four mathematics teachers use an interactive whiteboard as a didactic tool in problem solving? 2) What are their attitudes towards interactive whiteboards as a didactic tool in problem solving? The approach of this study was qualitative, four mathematics teachers were interviewed and their lessons were observed. This study is based on theories drawn from Derek Glover, David Miller, Doug Averis and Victoria Door (2004) framework of teachers’ use of interactive whiteboards; Derek Glover and David Miller (2003) framework of towards teachers’ attitudes for using digital tools and George Pólya (1970) framework that includes a several steps to solve problem-solving tasks. This study shows that the four mathematics teachers are a mixture of being interactive and enhanced interactive in the way they are using the interactive whiteboard as a didactic tool in problem solving. The four teachers also used the different parts of Pólyas (1970) steps on how to solve problem-solving tasks, when they were using the interactive whiteboard in problem solving. This study also shows that all the teachers have a positive attitude towards using interactive whiteboards as a didactic tool in problem solving. They believe that interactive whiteboards provides an extra dimension in problem solving, because it opens up for conversations and reasoning math. One teacher has shown to be a missioner regarding his attitude towards using the interactive whiteboard as a didactic tool in problem solving and the other three are proved to be a mixture of the missioners and tentatives.

The Impact of Interactive Touchscreens in Physics Education in Upper Secondary School : A systematic literature review

Jensen, Edvin January 2018 (has links)
Interactive touchscreens such as tablet PCs (TPC) and interactive whiteboards (IWB) are becoming more and more common in classrooms around the world. To date, very little research has been conducted on the impact of the new technology on physics education. This systematic literature review aims to investigate research on what impact tablet PCs and interactive whiteboards might have on the education in upper Secondary School. The review was performed in response to the following questions: 1. What is the influence of IWBs and TPCs on students’ active participation in physics education? 2. How can an IWB or TPC improve students’ learning about physics concepts? 3. How can educational research on touchscreen technology help inform effective teaching strategies in physics education? To respond to the questions of the study, relevant research about interactive whiteboards and/or tablet PCs was consulted and analysed. Twelve articles were located, mainly through the ERIC and Scopus databases, but also through Google Scholar. The included articles reported empirical research about physics education with interactive whiteboards or tablet PCs. The results from the articles indicate that interactive touchscreens might help improve learners’ active participation in physics education. Interactive whiteboards can, for example, be used to display interactive simulations during group work, something students are found to appreciate and easily engage in. A tablet PC can be used in the same way, but also allows students to receive anonymous support and feedback from the teacher during class which seems to be beneficial for learning. Results show that it is possible to improve students’ understanding of physics concepts by using interactive whiteboards or tablet PCs. However, further research is required to compare results from students using touch technology and students taught in traditional manner to be able to draw any general conclusions about observed learning effects.

The movement of the technological innovations brought to the classroom the interactive whiteboard, which associates the potentialities of the computer with the Whiteboard. The several potentialities of the computer for the Mathematics teaching coupled to one of the most traditional tools in the classroom, thus facilitating the work of the technological tools with the entire group of the classroom. In this context, the present study analyzed the teaching activity with the use of interactive whiteboard in mathematics class, particularly the interactions of teachers in the class of ratios and proportions. For both, we conducted a case study with a teacher regarded as an expert with the interactive whiteboard, with the filming of one of his classes, with 37 minutes and 38 seconds, with the use of interactive whiteboard. The teaching activity was analyzed starting from the literature on interaction and review of the literature in ratio and proportion. Guided in analysis of content, the teaching activity was analyzed through the identification of interactions with the interactive whiteboard and teacher with the class, or pupils in the class. Every interaction was identified from their goals, making a total of 130 interactions, classified as didactic Mediation, pedagogical mediation, resource management and others. The results show that, among the interactions with didactic mediation purpose, the Digital whiteboard was used by the teacher on most of these interactions, approximately 71.8%. From among the mediating didactic interactions, it was observed the use of Digital whiteboard in 95.3% for the presentation of concepts and procedures, 88.9% of the class to set goals and 90.9% of the interactions concerning to the exercises of proposition. In the teaching of ratios and proportions using interactive whiteboard resources, became apparent that the use of the interactive whiteboard allowed the teacher to propose a nice variety of exercises and digital resources, in form of texts, tables, examples, trying to encourage the presentation of related content. The use of interactive whiteboard promotes the teaching of mathematics in maximize methodologies of teaching in the presentation of the content and use of digital resources. There were not proposed activities in which students interact directly with the interactive whiteboard. Some digital tools, such as using the keyboard on the interactive whiteboard Pencil or function, need to be better structured and linked by developers to facilitate the writing of the interactive whiteboard.
