Det flexibla arbetslivetspåverkan på människor : En nyfiken vägledares utforskande av människors reaktioner påomställningar / The effect of the flexible working life : a curious counsellor’s exploration of people´s reactions to involuntary worktransitions

Eriksson, Backa Katarina January 2023 (has links)
The aim of the study is to contribute to a deeper understanding of how people are emotionally affectedby, and manage, work transitions that have been forced upon them in their professional life. From theperspective of guidance counsellors, this is an important question, given that the current labour marketis in flux, and given the fact that the focus on ‘life-long learning’ means that counsellors will in alllikelihood find themselves working increasingly with people at various points in career transition.Seven individuals with considerable experience of such work transitions have been interviewed. In theanalysis, the results have been studied from different perspectives based on theories of basic emotions, theories of crisis, sorrow and development and the Planned Happenstance career theory. The resultscontain several examples of reactions and approaches that involuntary work transitions can lead to.With a deeper understanding of these, counsellors can acquire an important pedagogical role in theirinteractions with clients dealing with career transition.

Understanding Involuntary Job Loss Among Former Newspaper Staff Photographers

Morris, Ryan K. 01 January 2012 (has links)
This study examines former newspaper photographers' experience with being laid-off from their staff positions. The purpose was to identify emerging themes within the context of involuntary job loss, job satisfaction, and occupational identity via interviews with 8 photojournalists who experienced the phenomenon of being laid-off. The newspaper industry has long been considered both the starting point for young and aspiring photojournalism careers and the most consistent and stable venue for an income. Yet recent changes in the media landscape, particularly economic stress on traditional business models and rapid adoption of digital technology sway the occupational future of photojournalism within newsrooms. The research method employed for this study includes in-depth interviews with a hermeneutical phenomenology approach focused on involuntary job loss, job satisfaction, and occupational identity.

The Experience of Job-Displaced Mexican-Americans From San Antonio, Texas Who Have Received Retraining

Mena, Diana 2012 August 1900 (has links)
What is the meaning of the Mexican-American's job displacement and participation in a training program? To answer this question, this study adopted hermeneutic phenomenology as a methodological approach. My intention was to search for deep meaning of job displacement followed by entering an educational program. Ten Mexican-American individuals who had been displaced from their job due to economic and trade reasons, and who later participated in a retraining program, were interviewed. Tentative themes were drawn from the analysis, and 15 thematic categories were confirmed after follow-up interviews. The themes were: Mexican-American Culture, Machismo, Self-determination, Resilience, Union Membership, Job Security, Have Someone Advocate for Their Rights, Job Displacement, Trade-related Closure, Breach of the Psychological Contract, Emotional Distress, Education and Retraining, Entrepreneurship and Problems with Workforce Benefits. The themes were expanded based on participants' words and then discussed through a post-analysis literature review. Recommendations were made to government and non-government organizations advocating for a potential change in policies. Recommendations were also provided to healthcare providers and to U.S. American workers. Finally, recommendations were made for future research.

Coping with Job Loss and Career Stress: Effectiveness of Stress Management Training with Outplaced Employees

Maysent, Anne Miya 08 1900 (has links)
A stress management intervention was developed and integrated into the services provided by one of the nation's largest outplacement consultants. The purpose of the intervention was to aid outplacement clients in the management and resolution of stress associated with job loss and career transition. Based on the results of this study, the intervention had the effect of helping treatment participants maintain their levels of effective coping when compared to nonparticipants. This study supports the hypothesis that stress management training can be helpful for unemployed individuals and may impact their emotional well-being as they go through the job search process.

Effek van vaderlike werkloosheid op die leefwêreld van die adolessent / Father's unemployment : its effect on adolescent development

Bouwer, Magdalena Alida 11 1900 (has links)
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of fathers unemployment on the adolescent's life world. In an attempt to understand the adolescent's life world, it was necessary to address the adolescent in totality. It has been shown how emotional trauma, such as the unexpected unemployment of the father, not only impairs the adolescent's physical-, cognitive-, affective-, social- and normative development but also has a negative influence on scholastic performance. The unemployment of a father has a particular influence on the relations within the family. The adolescent's life world, which is the Gestalt of all the relations that he or she formed, is also particularly influenced by the father's unemployment. The empirical research reveals that the adolescent who's father is unemployed is much more inclined to negative meaning, involvement and experience. Thus this adolescent is restraint on his way to self - actualisation and becomes receptive to therapeutic intervention. / Psychology of Education / M.Ed. (Psychology of Education)

Impak van werksverlies op die huweliksverhouding

Stoop, Therese Jeanette 01 1900 (has links)
High unemployment has become a permanent feature of modern-day society. As a result there has been an increased interest in the psychological impact of involuntary job loss on the individual and his family. The theoretical appraoch of this study is that job loss is a stressful life event which is studies within the subsystem of the family. The research design is the qualitative method that was executed by conducting depth interviews with eight white couples. The results of the interviews were compared with those of previous research relating to the impact of involuntary job loss on the individual and his family. Results show that job loss is a devastating experience for some couples while other couples experience it as a opportunity for personal growth and increased intimacy in the relationship. Factors that account for these differences are identified. Implications for future research are discussed. / Psychology / M.A. (Sielkundige Navorsing)
