The Practice Of Journalism In Turkey As To The Views Of Turkish Parliament Journalists

Bayar Ekren, Duygu 01 December 2006 (has links) (PDF)
Journalists&rsquo / commitment to an objective, impartial, balanced way of reporting and their respect for ethical norms are considered a vital prerequisite for democracy to be carried out. The general purpose of this thesis is to reveal whether established journalistic practices in Turkey are shaped through commonly acknowledged professional principles in a way that is compatible with democratic expectancies. In order to achieve this goal, a group of journalists were interviewed in the summer of 2003 who worked as parliament journalists at some time in their careers. They were asked several questions mainly concerning the factors that might have influence on the processes of news making with a special emphasis on the negative consequences of the complex structure of media-politics relationships. The analysis of the interviews reveals Turkish journalists&rsquo / views that journalism in Turkey is faced with serious problems and even may be characterized by a high degree of &ldquo / degeneration&rdquo / .

Georgia Newspaper Coverage Discovering Conventional Practices of the 'Cherokee Question': Prelude to the Removal, 1828-1832

Hobgood, Jr., James Hollister 21 November 2008 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the specific journalistic conventional practices of newspapers in Georgia as they focused on the “Cherokee Question” in 1828-1832, the critical period during which the state considered the removal of the Cherokees from Georgia. The research compares news and opinion texts in five Georgia newspapers with news and opinion texts in the newspaper launched by the Cherokee nation in 1828,the Cherokee Phoenix. While the conventional practices in the white-owned press tended to legitimize removal, the Phoenix adopted some of the same conventions in order to defend and negotiate Cherokee culture and issues.

The main theme of this Masters Thesis is the international reporters' practices, a concept that encompasses professionals from different categories such as the international correspondents, the special envoys and the war correspondents. The mapping of these practices focused on studies already published about these branches of journalism and in books with the memories and the experiences of the reporters in different times, places and coverages between the years of 1917 and 2011. These books that were written by journalists reveal themselves as another legitimate space to produce journalism beyond the traditional means like newspapers, radio and television when they allow their own authors to perform the interpretation and comment about the practice. Through these materials, we work on observations that involve the different phases of the profession, the impact derived from the rise of new information technologies and the interference of this evolution in the set of practices and processes of the international reporters. The thesis also contemplates problematic issues related to the glamorous idealization of the profession, to the critical view of these journalists based on new formats of journalism and, mainly, the practice of coverage determined from the concept of circularity in the processes of production of journalistic content. Besides contributing to the studies that involve the practice, it intends to serve as an element of understanding of the political and economical scenarios that involve the profession of international reporter.

La production des blogs journalistiques sur les sites web des quotidiens nationaux français et québécois / The production of journalistic blogs on French and Quebec national dailies’ websites

Barbeau, Jean-Sébastien 28 June 2018 (has links)
This thesis examines the production of journalistic blogs on French and Quebec national dailies’ websites. The objective of this research is to identify and characterise the zone of uncertainty controlled by journalists in order to realise blogs. This realisation is part of an economic context in great transformation and takes place in organisations that advocate multitasking. The methodology consists of the implementation of 52 semi-structured interviews with journalists and those responsible for active blogs on 1 April 2014, in 12 French and Quebec newspapers; technical and computer analysis of the software WordPress; a content analysis of blogs and newspapers; and online observations of blogs. The main results show that the creation of a blog is carried out by the establishment of a leading editorial concept to which journalists identify themselves both in a professional and personal way. As part of the production, journalists establish individual routines (selection of topics and drafting of texts) and negotiate collective routines (reviewing, uploading and comment management) with various employees (subeditors, community managers, etc.) working for the newspaper. The use of these other actors allows journalists to free themselves from these specialised and gruelling tasks.

Larocque, Sébastien 04 1900 (has links)
This research-creation dissertation aims to better understand the perception that journalists have on the daily work in the digital age. More specifically, we try to understand how these perceptions have evolved since the integration of new technologies, such as the Internet and social networks, within media companies in the last 10 years. Drawing on Harmut Rosa's concept of social acceleration, we wanted to examine how immediacy conditions the perceptions that the press workers have on journalistic practices on a daily basis. To demonstrate this, we interviewed eight Canadian journalists from four different media - television, radio, print and the web. Other factors such as age, work experience and gender were taken into consideration in the selection process of participants in order to gain different perspectives on the phenomenon under study. Thus, the participating journalists were questioned about their ways of working and their production, but also about their pace of work, their relationship to time, the integration of technologies into their work and the impacts of these on their work. The results, presented in the form of a news website, show that journalists are under the impression that they work more, work faster, are under more pressure, are more autonomous and required to multitask, but also that the evolution of working methods has repercussions on the quality of the news. These topics are all covered in the articles written for the website (Appendix 1) that was created for the creative part of this dissertation. To get to these results, we opted for a thematic analysis. Of course, the small sample of the study does not at any time allow us to offer generalities in this area. Despite this, the number of common elements in each of the interviews demonstrates reasoning that suggests that the work of journalists has indeed evolved since the onset of the digital age.

La modification des pratiques journalistiques et du contenu des nouvelles télévisées, du quotidien à la situation de crise : analyse France/Québec / Modifying journalistic practices and content of television news, daily to the crisis : analysis France / Quebec

Carignan, Marie-Ève 19 June 2014 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the news coverage during abrupt and unexpected events, due to "a very difficult situation, even dangerous, for an individual, an organization, a social body, an economic system or a country" and aims to determine in what journalistic practices and media contents in a crisis situation differ from the ordinary daily practices. The assumption on which this thesis rests is that in a crisis situation, journalistic practices will be affected by emotions, the spur of the moment and the search for exclusivity. Regarding content, there will be saturation of certain issues related to the crisis, while many daily topics will be removed and the risk of errors or inaccuracies will be exacerbated. This doctoral work follows the path of a comparison between France and Quebec, as both countries present a similar language and TV channel structure, which allows us to establish valid comparison bases. To answer the question of the research, a triple methodological strategy was adopted. First are presented the results of semi-structured interviews we made, in the form of professional life stories, with different actors from the information sector. These are followed by the results of a quantitative content analysis of television news which is based on a corpus formed of reports presented during three types of crises in France and in Quebec: "social" crisis, "natural" crises and "mixed" crises. Finally, a content analysis of 1,676 decisions from the jurisprudence of the Quebec Press Council was conducted.

The Journalistic Practices of Alternative Media in Taiwan : The Analysis of News & Market

Lu, Yi Shih Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis takes the notion of rhizome as a research approach to explore the journalistic practices of alternative media in Taiwan. Considering time limitation and the purpose of this research, the researcher adopts the methods of depth interview and participable observation to examine the journalistic practice of research object in this thesis—“News & Market.” At the same time, the researcher looks into journalistic practices via Deleuze and Guattari’s notion of “rhizome” and “becoming.” According to the study, along with the context change, News & Market constantly adjusts its organizational structure and the way it produces news. However, since journalists cannot often reach an agreement altogether, the organizational conflicts would gradually increase. For now, News & Market manages to reduce the possibilities of organizational conflicts through the ways of “joint gatekeeping production mode” and “institutional operation of the organization.” Moreover, the study indicates that social media platform, taking the example of Facebook, has a huge influence on the news production of News & Market. At last, because of the growing influence of context change, the journalists of News & Market show different cognition on their role positions. When there is the time of different points of view, the journalists would cross the border to provide different ideas and develop the journalistic practices that are different from the past.
