Ao invés de gerenciar apenas um canal de distribuição, as empresas têm direcionado a sua estratégia para a diversificação de pontos de contato e comunicação com os consumidores. Além do aumento do número de opções para os consumidores, as empresas passaram a perceber que precisam integrar e eliminar as barreiras existentes entre os canais, permitindo que os consumidores transitem entre eles ao longo do seu processo de compra (omnichannel). Nesse contexto, as companhias enfrentam desafios de gestão na execução de suas atividades. Por exemplo, alguns dos principais varejistas estão organizados por departamentos ou unidades de negócio separadas e com pouca integração. Além disso, qualquer alteração na estratégia de canais afeta os processos, pessoas e estrutura da empresa, tornando mais difícil essa implementação. Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo estudar como as empresas podem melhorar a execução da sua estratégia multicanal e se preparar para a potencial transição para a completa interação de pontos de contato (omnichannel). Há interesse em estudos nesse campo, pois a área de canais está passando por uma profunda transformação, que vai afetar a maneira como os varejistas organizam os seus negócios. A metodologia utilizada é exploratória qualitativa e a Quiksilver foi a empresa escolhida para a análise, caracterizando o trabalho como um estudo de caso. A Quiksilver operou no Brasil durante muitos anos tendo o atacado como o seu único canal de vendas e, a partir de 2012, passou a utilizar opções complementares como as lojas próprias, franquias e e-commerce. Foram entrevistados executivos da liderança da empresa através de um roteiro semiestruturado e foi aplicado o roteiro omnichannel proposto pela IBM para a avaliação do estágio da estratégia multicanal. / The retail industry is facing a transformation due to the upcoming of new technologies that make possible to consumers to search and buy products in different ways. Now, rather than manage just one distribution channel, the companies should reinforce their distribution strategy, increasing the possible touchpoints with the consumers. Beyond increasing the number of channels, the companies need to integrate and start to eliminate the possible barriers among the channels, allowing the consumers to flow between then during the buying process (omnichannel). On this context, the companies face many operational and management challenges to implement the necessary changes in their channel strategy. The main retailers are organized by department or different business units almost without any integration. Furthermore, any change on the channel strategy affects the process, people and the structure of the company, making harder to implement it. This research has the goal of study how the companies could improve the execution of its multichannel strategy, and be prepared to implement the omnichannel. There is demand for the area of this study, due to the deep transformation that is occurring on this field, and it will change completely the way that retailers do business. The methodology is exploratory qualitative and the Quiksilver Brazil operation was chosen for the analysis, characterizing it as a case study. The company started its operations in Brazil having the wholesale as it unique sales channel, and recently started retail, franchise and e-commerce operations. Interviews were done with the main executives of the company and was applied the IBM omnichannel report to access the Quiksilver multichannel implementation status.

In this study, C. S. Lewis's books, essays, stories, and poems, in addition to biographies and essays written about Lewis, were read in an attempt to understand the relationship between Lewis's spiritual quest and his total health. The spiritual quest is defined as the search for the ultimate truth and meaning of life. For Lewis, who was a Christian, the quest for the Spirit is a journey toward God-Jesus-the Holy Spirit. Health is defined as total experience; the interrelationship of the body, mind, and spirit with all there is, has been, and will be. Health is considered a changing perception, not a fixed state. The dimensions of Lewis's health—physical, psychological, social, and spiritual—are studied. Lewis's physical states, literary works, literary themes, friendships, ethics, marriage, and views on religion are considered as each relates to his determination to know and to love God. For Lewis, anything without God is nothing. God is the creator of all living things and all matter. He is the inventor of all loves and is Love. In Lewis's opinion, one's health is in direct proportion to one's love for God. When man loves God he is healthy, the more he loves Him the healthier, the less he loves Him the less healthy.

Thesis (MPhil)--Stellenbosch University, 2002 / On title page: Master of Philosophy (Bible Skills) / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The apostle Paul was called and commissioned to the city centres of the eastern Mediterranean world. These city centres were places of power, trade, wealth and travel. They were the nerve centres of civilisation in the East. People from various parts of the Roman Empire were found in these major cities. The city was therefore a highly significant institution in the Roman Empire. The governing authorities wanted hellenization and romanization to spread from these cities. The Christian leaders also decided that Christianity had to spread in the Roman Empire from its city centres. The apostle Paul's Christian mission was therefore to the various cities in the Roman Empire. The sociohistorical realities in these cities therefore formed the context of Paul's life and apostolic work and determined his relation to a city. The political, social, cultural and religious factors in a city could therefore impinge on his life and work. The apostle Paul was usually drawn to these large cities where he could find Jewish communities. As Christianity was resting on a Jewish foundation, his initial strategy was his work in the synagogues amongst the Jews. Paul also needed an alternative venue for his Christian work in the city. These alternate venues were usually the private homes of individuals who had become Christians. In these homes Paul established his church in a city. The hosts in these homes would usually become the benefactors and leaders in the church. Paul's apostolic work in a city was also done in the city streets. His church therefore became thoroughly mixed in terms of social status, however, the church gave all equal rights and privileges. When Paul left a city, he also placed on them the responsibility to reach their surrounding regions and provinces with the Christian message. These cities therefore had to be strategically located. The apostle Paul chose five specific cities that had an advantageous geographical position in the Roman provinces to complete his apostolic work in the eastern Mediterranean world. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die apostel Paulus was geroep en opgedrag vir die stedelike sentrums van die ooste Middellandse wereld. Hierdie stedelike sentrums was plekke van invloedryke mag, ekonomiese handel, rykdom en reis aktiwitiete. Hulle was ook die kern van menslike beskawing in die Ooste. Bevolkings groepe vanuit verskeie dele van die Romeinse ryk was in hierdie groot stede te vinde. Stede was 'n hoogs betekensvolle instelling in die Romeinse ryk. Die politieke owerhede wou he dat hellenization en romanization moes sprei van hierdie stede. Die Christelike leiers het ook besluit dat Christendom moes in die stede van die Romeinse ryk sprei. Die navorsingsverslag ondersoek beeldvorming rondom die Kongo/(Midde-)Afrika in die korpus tekste wat opgespoor is, binne die breë teoretiese raamwerk van koloniale/postkoloniale studies, met toespitsing op “Africanism” en “Whiteness studies”. Daar is bevind dat beeldvorming in verband met die Kongo rondom twee hooftrope geskied: die Kongo as Conradiaanse “heart of darkness”, waar barbaarsheid in al sy geledinge hoogty vier; en die Kongo as “Eldorado” – die land wat as 15de-eeuse Afrika-koninkryk beskik het oor ‘n ontwikkelde beskawing en ongekende rykdom - lank voordat dit “ontdek” is deur Portugese seevaarders. Slegs die tyd sal leer. / This study of Afrikaans literary texts on the Congo (DRC) covers 100 years: 1912 – 2012. In 1912 DF Malan became the first white Afrikaner to travel to the Congo and publish a travelogue based on his travels (Naar Congoland, 1913). This thesis investigates the representation of the Congo/Central) Africa in the corpus of texts discovered, within the broad theoretical framework of colonial/postcolonial studies, and the paradigms of “Africanism” and “Whiteness Studies”. The Congo has been represented in terms of two main tropes: the Congo as the Conradian “heart of darkness”, the seat of utter savagery; and the Congo as “Eldorado” – the African kingdom that presided over a well-developed civilisation and untold wealth long before it was “discovered” by Portuguese explorers in the fifteenth century. These main tropes and their sub-tropes function in most Afrikaans texts on the Congo as a continuum and not in absolute contrast. Literary texts of the colonial era (up to the 1960’s) are characterised by Eurocentric discourses in which the imperial/colonial Zeitgeist typically manifests in binary oppositions (primitivism versus civilisation), and tropes like “imperial eyes” (white appropriation of colonial space). Malan’s dream of a Dutch sphere of influence - based on the affinity of Dutch/Flemish in the Congo with Dutch/Afrikaans in South Africa – and extending from Cape Town to the erstwhile Belgian Congo, is reminiscent of the expansionist fervour characterising the imperialist Cape-to-Cairo idea, but is based on the close link between language and nationhood in Afrikaner nationalism. In postcolonial texts the view of the white Afrikaner as ‘n descendant of the idealised Voortrekkers/Angolan trekkers is increasingly deconstructed by re-imagining the Afrikaner as a “white sangoma” or “whiteboy in Africa”, while white fright and guilt are revealed - in a sharply satirical fashion – as the bitter legacy of the white arch-colonialist “Pappa in Afrika”. The colonial project is portrayed as a disaster in Equatoria, while Horrelpoot poses a dystopic vision of the degeneration of Afrikanerdom and Afrikaans in (South) Africa. Whiteness may eventually be erased and replaced by authentic, earthy African colours, or be redefined within a non-hegemonic context (The Poisonwood Bible). Automatic classification of dynamic graphs / Classification automatique de graphes dynamiques

Les réseaux dynamiques sont constitués d’entités établissant des contacts les unes avec les autres dans le temps. Un défi majeur dans les réseaux dynamiques est de prédire les modèles de mobilité et de décider si l’évolution de la topologie satisfait aux exigences du succès d’un algorithme donné. Les types de dynamique résultant de ces réseaux sont variés en échelle et en nature. Par exemple,certains de ces réseaux restent connexes tout le temps; d’autres sont toujours déconnectés mais offrent toujours une sorte de connexité dans le temps et dans l’espace(connexité temporelle); d’autres sont connexes de manière récurrente, périodique,etc. Tous ces contextes peuvent être représentés sous forme de classes de graphes dynamiques correspondant à des conditions nécessaires et/ou suffisantes pour des problèmes ou algorithmes distribués donnés. Étant donné un graphe dynamique,une question naturelle est de savoir à quelles classes appartient ce graphe. Dans ce travail, nous apportons une contribution à l’automatisation de la classification de graphes dynamiques. Nous proposons des stratégies pour tester l’appartenance d’un graphe dynamique à une classe donnée et nous définissons un cadre générique pour le test de propriétés dans les graphes dynamiques. Nous explorons également le cas où aucune propriété sur le graphe n’est garantie, à travers l’étude du problème de maintien d’une forêt d’arbres couvrants dans un graphe dynamique. / Dynamic networks consist of entities making contact over time with one another. A major challenge in dynamic networks is to predict mobility patterns and decide whether the evolution of the topology satisfies requirements for the successof a given algorithm. The types of dynamics resulting from these networks are varied in scale and nature. For instance, some of these networks remain connected at all times; others are always disconnected but still offer some kind of connectivity over time and space (temporal connectivity); others are recurrently connected,periodic, etc. All of these contexts can be represented as dynamic graph classes corresponding to necessary or sufficient conditions for given distributed problems or algorithms. Given a dynamic graph, a natural question to ask is to which of the classes this graph belongs. In this work we provide a contribution to the automation of dynamic graphs classification. We provide strategies for testing membership of a dynamic graph to a given class and a generic framework to test properties in dynamic graphs. We also attempt to understand what can still be done in a context where no property on the graph is guaranteed through the distributed problem of maintaining a spanning forest in highly dynamic graphs.
