A disputa em torno da memória da morte do Imperador Romano Juliano Augusto, dito "O Apóstata", expressa nos séculos IV e V D.C.

Gabbardo, Gabriel Requia January 2010 (has links)
This work is titled The dispute on the memory of the death of the Roman Emperor Julian Augustus, the so-called “Apostate”, as it was expressed during the 4th and 5th centuries AD. It has, as a goal, to study the ways with which many diverse authors treated this topic. A polemical one, since Julian was the last pagan sovereign of the Roman Empire, being, as a result, the nodal point of ideological disputes and diverse appropriations. To achieve this goal, each author, as well as their work, is individually studied.

"Performativity" in the lives of Julian of Norwich (1343-1413) and Margery Kempe (1373-1438).

Gaul, Louisa 09 January 2008 (has links)
Performativity” is employed in this study as a methodological approach to an understanding of patriarchy and its effects. As the materialized effect of the use of language and symbolization (speech acts, larger discourses, rituals) it fits within the broad frame of rhetorics, where the last highlights the creational or shaping force of language. Specifically the study focuses on an adapted version of Judith Butler’s notion of “performativity” in an analysis of the lives of various women. The term “performativity” is used in two fundamentally different senses. In the first, it refers to the prescriptions and expectations of patriarchy in regard to the identity and behaviour of its subjects, presented to them through master narratives. This sense of the word is pejorative in that “performativity” is a means of oppression and control. In the other sense of the word, “performatives” are those alternative ways of behaving and responding, chosen by women in their attempts to free themselves from the stifling effects of patriarchy and the master-narrative that it dictates. In this sense, the term actually refers to contra-performatives. Any study focusing on patriarchy necessarily requires an understanding of the origins and workings, as well as the effects, of that phenomenon. The study traces the development of the patriarchal system from pre-history, through Antiquity, into the Middle Ages and the Modern Era. This examination reveals the universality of patriarchy around the world and throughout history. The phenomenon is defined as an oppressive system of male domination within the family and society. As the study focuses particularly on the lives of two fourteenth century English women, Margery Kempe and Julian of Norwich, an examination of English society of that period as a strongly gendered culture, is undertaken. The very limited options available to women are delineated: the choice confronting them was either marriage and procreation, or church and chastity. Margery Kempe initially chose the former, while Julian of Norwich chose the latter. How did these choices impact on their lives, and in what ways may they be regarded as “performative”? Through various speech acts and rituals, as well as their writing, these women confronted patriarchy, sometimes directly and overtly, and at other times subtly and covertly, in their endeavours to create for themselves an alternative to patriarchal oppression. Alternative discourses informed alternative “performances”. In order to demonstrate the universality over time and place of patriarchy and the universal, “performative” response of women to it, the focus then shifts to nineteenth and twentieth century South Africa, where the life-worlds of a diverse group of women are studied. Again, “performativity” as a tool of liberation in the hands of women such as James Barry, Olive Schreiner, Johanna Brandt and Ellen Kuzwayo, is examined. The value of “performativity” is then, emphasised in this study, particularly as a means for those who have for whatever reason – gender, sexual orientation, race, etcetera – been “othered”, to overcome the regime under which they suffer. Regimes which have existed throughout history. This study in a sense serves as a springboard for further research into the why and how of liberation from patriarchal and other oppression. / Prof. H. Understanding the mechanism of 177Lu- PSMA617 radioligand therapy and evaluating its potential role in the treatment of metastatic castrate resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC)

Joshi, Jay 21 December 2020 (has links)
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Canadian men. Despite hormone and radiation therapies, most patients progress to late-stage metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). 177Lu-PSMA617 radioligand therapy (rLT) is a radioactive biochemical substance that targets the human prostate-specific membrane antigen (hPSMA). This rLT has been used in compassionate trials in mCRPC patients and has been demonstrated significant clinical efficacy. However, recent findings suggest that this efficacy is short-lived, and most patients exhibit tumor recurrence [96]. Here we establish a murine model to study the anti-tumor effects and the corresponding immune response of 177Lu-PSMA617 rLT on prostate cancer. We generated a doxycycline-inducible hPSMA-expressing murine prostate cancer (hPSMA TRAMP-C2) cell line with high binding responses to PSMA617. Using this system, we evaluated the in vitro and in vivo binding of 177Lu-PSMA617 to the hPSMA TRAMP-C2 cell line. Here, we show that the hPSMA TRAMP-C2 cell line expresses hPSMA upon doxycycline induction and that 177Lu-PSMA617 can bind to its target in vitro and in vivo. Together, these results show that the developed hPSMA TRAMP-C2 cell line can be used to investigate therapeutic and immunological responses targeted against PSMA in prostate cancer. / Graduate

Julian Assange: A Content Analysis of Media Framing in Newspapers around the World

Andrade, Meylin K. Menjivar 01 May 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Researcher conducted a content analysis in order to examine how the media framed Julian Assange after the Ecuadorian government granted him political asylum at their embassy in London on August 16, 2012. Researchers compared 380 English and Spanish language newspaper articles from North America, Europe, Australia/New Zealand, Asia, and Latin America to examine regional differences in the way Assange was framed. This study revealed that generally the tone toward Assange was mostly neutral or positive in all continents. Furthermore, European media gave more attention to Julian Assange than did media from North America or other continents. Exploratory research revealed that English language newspapers placed Julian Assange in headlines more frequently than Spanish language sources. Interestingly, even when Assange’s participation in the publication of secret documents affected many different countries, he was not given page prominence in newspapers.

Promontory Culture: The Faunal Evidence

Johansson, Lindsay Deanne 28 June 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Following excavations in the Promontory Caves and at several open sites in the Provo River Delta region, Steward (1937) characterized the Promontory culture as large game hunters. He based this on the high number of bison bones recovered within the Caves. Excavations at additional Promontory sites along the Wasatch Front contain faunal assemblages which differ significantly from those in the caves, showing that people living at open sites relied more heavily on small game, waterfowl, and aquatic resources than large game. These differences have been mostly attributed to Steward's sampling strategy and lack of screening, but faunal material recovered during 2011 excavations at the caves support Steward's initial assessment: the people living in the caves were hunting large game and little else. Using faunal data from seven sites, I discuss how the faunal assemblages differ and the implications of hunting practices in discussions of Promontory culture.

The unheard voices of people with disabilities: practical theology in conversation with the spiritualities of Julian of Norwich and Teresa of Avila

Ventura, Diana 19 May 2016 (has links)
This practical theological study draws on the theological method of Don S. Browning to implement a mutually critical correlation between the everyday experiences of people with disabilities depicted in six case study narratives and selected texts of two mystical authors, Julian of Norwich and Teresa of Avila. The study brings to light the harsh everyday reality of living with a physical disability, articulates disability as a practice, and outlines the operative effective history of the United States associated with physical disability. This operative history has long kept the harsh reality of embodied vulnerability hidden from view and thus has contributed to the marginalization of people with disabilities. The critical dialogue between the narratives of persons with disabilities and the selected mystical texts provides a new hermeneutical lens through which to read mystical theology and reveals insights into embodiment and marginalization that bear implications for spirituality studies, disability studies, and practical theology. This dissertation argues that scholars in disability studies neglect embodied vulnerability when they define disability only as a social construction. Chapter One proposes that disability is both a social construction and a biological reality. The next chapter illustrates that people with disabilities still experience existential absurdity and that predominant norms in the United States (however unconscious) continue to try to conceal or avoid the negative effects of embodied difference. The study then analyzes the themes of embodiment and marginalization in the mystical theologies of Julian of Norwich and Teresa of Avila. Chapter Three reveals that Julian’s relational conception of the Trinity and God’s immanence in the humblest of needs offer ways to establish dignity for people with disabilities. Chapter Four shows that mystical prayer provides impetus for Teresa’s work as a social reformer, which challenges sixteenth century Spain to welcome conversos and value women. The final chapter shows that the mutually critical conversation offers a starting point for building theological constructs of embodied spirituality to respond to the avoidance of embodied vulnerability and the challenges of living with physical disability.

Die Kunst des Erinnerns : Autofiktionales Erzählen und literarische Erinnerung in Julian Schuttings Zersplittertes Erinnern. / Autofictional storytelling and literary memory in Julian Schutting’s Zersplittertes Erinnern.

Stevens, Katrien January 2022 (has links)
