Parental knowledge on HIV/AIDS in Gauteng Region 3Ngcamu, Esther Avis Gugulethu 06 1900 (has links)
Recognizing that a parent is a key role player in fighting HIV/AIDS, the researcher conducted a study to examine and describe the knowledge parents have of this disease and its virus.
The study was conducted among a sample of 100 parents/guardians, using a questionnaire to
examine the respondents' conceptual, episodic, descriptive, procedural and declarative knowledge of HIV/AIDS.
The study found that the respondents lacked especially conceptual and declarative knowledge and that the main factor contributing to knowledge is the level of education. / Health Studies / M.A. (Health Studies)

Assessment of the knowledge of asthma amongst adult asthmatics and their quality of lifeWilliams, Zelda Antoinette 31 December 2005 (has links)
Asthma is not a disease with a single etiology but a very complex syndrome. Irrespective of a better understanding of the pathophysiology of asthma and its related therapeutic regimens the disease still escalates in prevalence and severity. Characteristic features of chronicity and remission ensures a fertile ground for non-compliance by patients. This quantitative, descriptive study set out to determine the asthma knowledge, asthma control and quality of life of adult asthmatics who attended the respiratory outpatient clinic at Tygerberg Hospital. The purpose was to determine an association between asthma knowledge, asthma control and asthma quality of life.
A statistically significant association was found between asthma control and asthma quality of life, not with knowledge of asthma for either of the concepts. Important gaps in knowledge were identified namely an inability to recognise nocturnal coughing as a risk factor. The increased role of nurse practitioners in asthma care is highly recommended. / Health Studies / M.A. (Health Studies)

Previous issue date: 2014-08-29 / The aim of this research was to identify, from the point of view of the knowledge building theory, the most important authors and institutions involved in finance research publications, from 1979 to 2012, to follow how the knowledge was built in this area. It was made a sociometric study of descriptive character, involving 223 articles from 78 journals. For this, the articles were divided in six thematic areas - Portfolio Theory, Capital Structure and Dividend Policy, CAPM, Market Efficiency, Price Options and Behavior Finance. Moreover, it was made the presentation of the cooperation social networks, splitting authors and institutions according to the thematic areas. Subsequently, it was made the analysis of the areas and institutions that most represent the publications in the searched population, as well as how the building of this knowledge occurred, based on the concepts of normal science and Thomas Kuhn paradigm. The following results were obtained, mapped and followed by the social network analysis (SNA): a) the theories that compose the Modern Finance Theory have their constitution anomalous concerning the paradigms; b) in the normal course of science, response to crisis was through new finance and its behavior model; c) the results presented between the dichotomy full and limited rationality in finance fit in the concept of normal science, according to its building course; d) Finance is a research area that has already presented its scientific paradigm; e) the comparison between the periods of published research and the knowledge building, in various moments, occurs through pre-paradigmatic periods, and its first divergence point was defined based on the real behavior factor. The answer was the insurgence and the insertion of behavior models in agents' decisions, which appeared in publications only in the last two decades, even under questionings of the dominant paradigm. O compartilhamento de significados entre alunos, pesquisadores e material didático na análise de um projeto de divulgação científica da Fiocruz/PR / The sharing of meanings between students, researchers and the didactic material in the analysis of a Fiocruz/PR scientific divulgation projectPassos, Milena Santiago dos 30 August 2017 (has links)

This research outlined some possibilities of connection between didactic knowledge and scientific knowledge through a scientific dissemination project. The research was carried out at Instituto Carlos Chagas - Fiocruz-PR, where it was held in 2015, its first scientific dissemination program with the ambitious goal of bringing science experiences to school. From the analysis of the first edition of the project, a didactic material was developed for the second edition, which occurred in 2017. The analysis was essentially qualitative, based on the reports of researchers and students, from which the main expectations and meanings, that were part of this didactic event, were identified. The theory behind the production of the didactic material is the theory of Gowin, which foresees a triad: students, teachers and the didactic material in interaction in order to share meanings. The analyzed data allow us to indicate that the didactic transposition is shown as the main difficulty in the scientific dissemination, besides others perceived by the researchers, such as the lack of interest shown by the students and their lack of prior knowledge. The developed didactic material, therefore, has the proposition of being potentially significant, assuming its purpose as an expression of knowledge, in the context of scientific dissemination. As a product of this research, a guide that presents the results and orientations has been prepared, so that other researchers can have references that may help them to do the first step of didactic transposition and to formulate didactic materials for scientific divulgation.

The support of juvenile offenders in correctional centres schools : a wellness perspectiveManzini, Theresa Lydia Badiktsie 04 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this qualitative, phenomenological study was to explore the support
of juvenile offender learners in correctional schools from a wellness perspective.
The support of juvenile offender learners on the six dimensions of wellness is
crucial since it has a wide range of benefits, it links achievement of teaching and
learning, and rehabilitation and avoid recidivism. The study integrates Ubuntu and
Wellness frameworks (Hettler, 1984) as a lens to understand the support of
juvenile offender learners’ wellness in the correctional schools. The two
frameworks informed the formulated Wellness framework as an approach to
address and support wellness in active teaching and learning of the juvenile
learners in the correctional schools. Data collection methods used was semi-
structured interviews, open-ended questionnaires and observations. The research
used purposive sampling of 12 teachers and 21 juvenile offender learners from
seven correctional schools in four different provinces in South Africa. Ethical
considerations are followed this include how best to negotiate access to the
correctional schools, signed consent forms, anonymity, and confidentiality. The
findings of the study revealed inadequate support structures and challenges that
threaten the wellness of juvenile learners. However, it was revealed that teachers
make an effort to support juvenile offender learners’ wellness in the correctional
schools. Conversely, there are gaps in terms of policy, theory, and practice on how
they can effectively support juvenile learners. The major impediment is that
teachers are trained to teach in mainstream schools not in the environment of
imprisonment. The study recommends that teachers, Learner Support Assistant
(LSA), Peer Educators (PE), and security official be trained on how to identify
intellectual, physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and career challenges of juvenile
learners and address them in order to improve their learning, and rehabilitate. The
DCS can do this through collaboration with various stakeholders who have
knowledge and expertise in the six-wellness dimensions. Hence, the study
formulated the model called Collaborative Intervention Support for Wellness
framework. It consists of five strategic support structures (DCS, and other
governmental department, non-governmental stakeholders LSA and PE) that are
to assist the teachers in the correctional schools to support and enhance the
juvenile offender learners’ wellness. / Morero oa thuto ena ea boleng bo phahameng ene e le ho hlahloba tšehetso ea

provinsies in Suid-Afrika gebruik.
Support for Wellness raamwerk geformuleer. Dit is ‘n kompromie van vyf strategies
ondersteuningstrukture
(DKD,
en
ander
regeringsdepartemente,
nie-
verbeter. / Psychology / D. Phil (Psychology)
