This research aimed to understand the ways of appropriation of the English language by blind student enrolled in the common rooms of elementary education in the regular school system. For the development of this research I chose to take a qualitative approach in the context of the case study building on the theoretical and philosophical assumptions of socio-historical approach, based on the contributions of Vygotsky, Bakhtin and authors who share this line. The research had as subject of study a visually impaired student, the English teacher and teacher specializing in specialized educational services. The corpus of the research was obtained from document analysis, semi-structured interviews, observation of English classes and the school environment. Data analysis showed that learning the blind student does not differentiate regarding the learning of other students, just needs other ways to perform as well as the fact that disability is realized only in the interactions in the social environment. The data also show that the school is aware of the differences in school life, however, with regard to the actions curriculum within the classroom, I found a little flexible curriculum to the needs of students with and without disabilities, a practice teaching that still favours the explanation of content, exercises and writing reviews, and mostly individual. Whereas the meaning of disability is the result of the combination of the history of the individual with the social environment, the data collected indicate that the acquisition of knowledge in the English language by blind student arise amid difficulties ranging from the lack of suitable materials to the senses attributed by the subjects of this process about visual impairment, specifically blindness, in other words, the challenges that exist in this process are determined in the social context and not on biological characteristics

En skola för alla - gäller det alla? : Statliga styrdokuments betydelse i skolans verksamhet / A School for Everyone. Does it Apply to Everyone? : The Importance of National Steering Documents for Schools.

Gadler, Ulla January 2011 (has links)
The thesis aim is to visualize and understand what happens to intentions formulated in national steering documents to be interpreted and implemented in schools to give every pupil without exception access to an equivalent education.   The principal starting point is that the individual official, or “street bureaucrat”, working inside school is the key person in interpreting steering document content.  A theory-based analysis model was constructed from the different levels of national school steering systems, including knowledge appropriation and knowledge transfer as theoretical concepts.  In the model, state, municipality, school and pupil constitute separate institutional concepts forming four frames, with three levels, macro, meso and micro, with school and pupil on the latter level. Following the process involving national steering documents, the actual steering of schools and the interpretation and implementation of the mission at different system levels highlights these documents’ importance.   The empirical material comprises five studies: Study 1, a literature study focusing on the expression A school for everyone; Study 2, a document study on the steering of schools in two systems; Studies 3 and 4, two mutually independent questionnaire studies about national steering documents involving school leaders undergoing school leadership education and special needs teachers-to-be during their education and Study 5,  a document study of pupil assistants’ role as officials in the two steering systems.   The conclusion of the thesis may be that the pedagogical significance of the steering documents depends on how administrative and school officials, individually and collectively, interpret and implement the mission among the pupils. Claiming that A school for everyone applies to everyone requires routines in whichever system which ensure that all steering process officials absorb the steering document content and agree on a common pedagogical foundation about who are all pupils, which ones need special support and what measures will give all pupils access to an equivalent education.

Desenredando os fios da Teia : analise de um curso de formação continuada no contexto do Programa Teia do Saber / Disentangling the web's threads : analysis of a teachers' continuing education course in the context of the Program Webs of Knowledge ('Teia do Saber')

In this dissertation, we analyzed a teachers' continuing education course offered by the Teacher's Literacy research Group at the Language Studies Institute (IEL-UNICAMP). The course was part of a Program called "Teia do Saber", offered by the State Secretary of Education in the state of São Paulo to primary and secondary school teachers. Aiming to understand how the teacher is involved in the continuing education program, we investigated the university team proposal as well as the teachers' ways of appropriating the course subject matter, on how to teach reading at the elementary level. We used the research data bank for our interpretive study, composed by: the instructors's lesson planning, transcripts classroom interactions, diaries, reading lesson plans and school projects prepared by the elementary school teachers and interviews with the instructors. Our results show that even when course with a consistent methodological / theoretical perspective are offered, such as the Reading course here analyzed, the continuing education fragmented model offered by the state education secretary to its teachers interferes negatively in the teacher's knowledge appropriation process, a gradual process that requires continuity so that the topics studied in the continuing education courses may be integrated to the teacher's already constructed theoretical and experiential knowledge and revoiced in the classroom / Mestrado / Lingua Materna / Mestre em Linguística Aplicada
