Denna studie söker sammanfatta och analysera ett drygt sekels samlingsförvaltning och autenticitetsbruk av sekelskifteskonstnären Julius Kronbergs ateljé, som sedan 1922 funnits som museal miljö på friluftsmuseet Skansen i Stockholm. Problemet som utgör studiens fokus kretsar kring den bevarandeproblematik som uppstått då man i samma stund velat använda och bevara en autentisk miljö som i grund och botten har tämligen dåliga bevarandeförutsättningar. Studien har genomförts utifrån arkiv- och litteraturstudier samt en intervju, och inleds med en bakgrundshistorik följt av ett resultat som är uppdelat i fem delkapitel som alla motsvarar varsin tidsepok i förvaltningen av ateljén. De slutsatser som kan dras av resultatet visar på hur förvaltningen delvis har skiftat under seklet, att bevarandeproblematiken ofta har lösts genom att nedprioritera tillgängliggörandet av miljön, samt att miljöns materiella autenticitet genomgående har varit väldigt viktig. / This study aims to recap and analyze a century of collections management and authenticity use of artist Julius Kronbergs studio, that has been a part of Skansen open air museum in Stockholm since 1922. The problem for the study revolves around the desire to use and preserve an authentic environment that shows poor prerequisites in terms of preservation. The study has been carried out based on archive and litterature studies aswell as an interview, and is commenced with a historic context, followed by the result that is divided into five chapters based on different eras in the collections management of the studio. The conclusions shows how the management has varied some during the century, that the problem in preservation often was solved by down prioritizing the use of the museum environment, and that the studios material authenticity was very important throughout the century.

This thesis concerns six Swedish history paintings from 1864 until 1897 with motifs depicting the Swedish renaissance. The purpose of the thesis is to examine the influence of 19th century fashion on the depiction of garments from the renaissance, and what this portrayal deflects concerning the artists contemporary vision of fashion and bodily ideals in the 16th century. Using a checklist method to approach the artworks the thesis examines how and to what extent the artists used visual culture from the 16th century in their visualization of the era and wether or not this portrayal is affected by the artists contemporary fashions. Interwined with the method is the theoretical framwork of the thesis, based upon the notion of fashion in art as a fabricated construct and history usage. The thesis presents the idea that the history painting depicting events spanning between a period of 70 years still uses a similar fashion in the works, even considering the time frame of different styles. The idea of gender coded garments and body siluetts during the 19th century heavily affects the fashion in the paintings, as well as the artist’s contemporary attitudes towards representations of sexuality and bodily beauty.

Uppsatsen undersöker och analyserar Julius Kronbergs plafondmålningar i förhållande till det svenska 1800-talets uppfattning om stilkategorin rokoko och vilka funktionella aspekter som kan tillskrivas målningar på platser av särskild karaktär eller offentlig utsmyckning. Undersökningen dechiffrerar 1800-talets visuella och litterära bearbetning av 1700-talets stilepok och vilka implikationer det hade på det svenska konstlivet, där särskilda egenskaper och epitet tillräknas rokokon och på vilket sätt det återspeglas i Julius Kronbergs målningar. Uppsatsen tar även fasta på platserna där plafonderna befinner sig, för att analysera de som något mer än estetiska utsagor, med hjälp av de operativa begreppen plats och funktion, där den teoretiska grunden främst återfinns i Gregor Paulssons “konstens sociala dimension”. Den avslutande diskussionen resonerar kring den mångfacetterade adaptionen av 1700-talets visuella kultur som intresset för rokokon utmynnade i, där 1800-talets förankring i perioden främst bestod av romantisk nostalgi och poetisk fiktion snarare än egna upplevelser, där Julius Kronbergs målningar blev ett sätt att knyta an perioden genom en svensk kontext. Plafonderna verkar även på platser som besitter förmågan att formulera funktionella aspekter, målningarna förstärker, förändrar och artikulerar dem. Där en förening mellan uppfattningen om rokokon och plafondernas funktionella aspekter, har uppenbarats.
