Unga kurdiska kvinnor : svenska & kurdiska normer inom familj och samhälle

Abassi, Rufia, Ehrenborg, Marie January 2006 (has links)

The purpose of the study was to investigate how young female Kurd immigrants experienced their existence between two different cultures, namely Swedish compared to the immigrants parents culture. How their experience behavioural conduct between the opposite sex before marriage and if the young female Kurds thought the mass media picture of them was thought of as a correct image of their lives in general or whether they experienced it as a generalisation only. We chose qualitative methods for our study and used suitable literature based on the theories of this subject to be able to understand the problem. To go deeper whit the study five young female Kurds aged between eighteen and twenty years were asked if they would participate in an interview on the subject. These participants proved that they had no problem at all being multicultural. They adapted themselves no matter which environment they found themselves in, whether it is the Swedish or the Kurd culture. They did NOT see themselves as victims or nondependent individuals. They did not experience their male relatives as a threat either; on the contrary, family was seen as a big support for them instead. Their strong and positive side had not been highlighted in the mass media only neglected and ignored on behalf of the weak and oppressed female Kurd instead. This was very frustrating for the young female Kurds who we interviewed. If there is going to be a change in the problem, which actually does exist in society today, then one must examine the intersectionalism within research work that now seems to be done. This became quite clear in our research study that is presented here.

Demokratisering i irakiska Kurdistan : En fallstudie om irakiska Kurdistans transition till demokrati

Rafik, Dahin January 2019 (has links)
The Kurdish people have sought for independence and self-ruling for centuries. The division of the Kurdish population made it harder for them to unite and form any kind of self-ruling state. In Iraqi Kurdistan the Kurdish population have succeeded better than in other countries. With Dankwart Rustow’s theory (1970) as my theoretical framework, I aim to prevail Iraqi Kurdistan’s transition to democracy. My analysis will focus on factors that have contributed to the structure of democracy in the region. My method is a case study since my interest is to obtain a deeper understanding of how non-recognized states, particularly Iraqi Kurdistan, have been able to form a democracy. In conclusion, Iraqi Kurdistan can be analysed with the help of Rustow’s four phases. However, there are certain aspects, such as freedom of speech, corruption, and nepotism, that should be eliminated before the region can be considered as an absolute democratic state.

Bibliotek i exil : Det Kurdiska biblioteket i Stockholm / Library in Exile : The Kurdish Library in Stockholm

Lindberg, Annsofi January 2007 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is library work in exile, more specifically The Kurdish library in Stockholm (”Kurdiska biblioteket”). The Kurds have a long history of exile, forming a part of their national and cultural identity. I have therefore chosen in the analysis three concepts: nationalism, ethnicity and culture. The Kurdish library is unique and is different from a traditional library in many ways. I will therefore analyse acquisition, catalogue, and information work in a broader perspective. The method I have chosen is a Cultural sociology method (”cultural studies”), derived from theories by Karl Mannheim and Anthony Giddens. I will also, for a broader perspective, use theories from the Sociology of literature-field, by Johan Svedjedal and Lars Furuland. My thesis will also include a historical exposé over the Kurds and Kurdistan, related to the questions about the library work. Part of the thesis deals with publishing, press and writing in Kurdistan. Many of the Kurdish immigrants in Sweden are working in these fields (Mehmed Tayfun names circa 50 authors in his book). There are no sharp lines between authorship, publishing, press, or library. I discuss what this means to the Kurdish library. Also what the Internet can mean for the library’s future. My thesis tries to show and exemplify what a library in the Diaspora can be, but also what makes it so special. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Is Kurdistan heading toward democracy? : A Case Study of Democratization process in Iraqi Kurdistan / Kurdistan mot demokratisering? : En fallstudie av Demokratiseringsprocessen i Irakiska Kurdistan

Ahmed, Maroa January 2018 (has links)
Can a nation without being an independent state reach democracy? According to some researchers a democratization process cannot happen without having an independent state with control over their own territories. The Kurdish people without a given state are divided between four authoritarian states in the Middle east and in opposite to its neighbors' have Kurds ambition to become democratic always existed. The purpose pf this thesis was to analyze if Iraqi Kurdistan is heading towards democracy and to find what the driving factors behind the democratization process are. The thesis used a qualitative text analysis approach with a complementary case study where the thesis focused on Larry Diamonds internal and external factors as a guiding instrument to determine what political mechanisms have driven Kurds and politicians' transition to democracy and peace. The analysis presented that authoritarian division, authoritarian development, free values, civil society, peaceful pressure and limits of sanctions and aid conditionally drove them. For answering the research problem, is a democratization processes possible for non-independent states? It is possible, Kurds in Iraq have so far accomplished to establish an electoral democracy, and a consolidated democracy is not impossible if legitimacy among politicians are increased and if freedom of expression is uncontrolled by politicians and if corruption decreases.
