“Some Marvelous Thing”: Leonardo, Caterina, and the Madonna of the Rocks

Jahosky, Michael Thomas 12 July 2010 (has links)
Leonardo's Virgin of the Rocks (or Madonna of the Rocks, c.1486) is a masterpiece. Scholars have been unclear, however, about the unconventional cave setting and where Leonardo's inspiration came from. The Song of Songs mentions a beautiful bride being invited to come "into the wall of rocks," and the apocryphal Gospel of James (written around 150 A.D.) tells the story of Jesus being born in a cave outside of Bethlehem. But Leonardo's own personal cave experience in 1481 spurred his desire to find literature that placed Jesus' birth in a cave, or a "wall of rocks." This thesis focuses on a specific discourse prominent in Leonardo scholarship which has taken place over the years, chiefly concerning Leonardo's strange cave background in the Virgin of the Rocks.

Almeida, Marcos de 31 January 2008 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-03-15T19:48:45Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Marcos de Almeida.pdf: 1007056 bytes, checksum: f101a4615725c62db72b22ea81207269 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-01-31 / Fundo Mackenzie de Pesquisa / This research aims to reflect on the critical situation of our planet, from the Leonardo Boff s theological thought and the evangelical theology perspectives. We are fully aware that the ecological crisis will be expanded in the coming years and the whole world will be a witness of the wrath of a wounded ecosystem. The ecosystem degradation is generated by people themselves. Therefore, there is an urgent need for effective tools that can operate more deeply inside people in order to carry them into a real understanding of effective actions on environmental care. The humankind has chosen the path of competition, that leads to disconnection with the life. People are rationally alienated of its home natural condition. The conclusion is that the educational system has failed on the efficiency of an effective teaching on the preservation and maintenance fields. In this direction, the Religion has to be part of the solution, facing the growing environmental crisis. Here is the challenge, to build a fair and environmentally healthy society. For this, we should reestablish the spirituality as a partner, in a dialogue with the Science. Particularly, we believe the Christianity has the capacity to build a cosmovision, the competence to establish a moral authority, the facility to establish an ample base of members, and the ability to develop communities. Ahead of many theological approaches, the writing of Leonardo Boff on ecology submits a contextualized proposition that deserves attention. In a different way, the evangelical theology proposes an answer to the problem, in order to maintain a pedagogical teaching that holds its bases on the evangelical Christian doctrine. We understand that the Christianity has strength to engage believers in bilateral relationships, and inspire them to live a moral life, and has a tremendous ability to give meaning to life. However, another crisis outbursts, the delay in perceiving the current problem: the planet is dying. Consequently, a huge delay in getting involved on environmental matters, and effectively engaging in the promotion of a sustainable world. A degradação do ecossistema é gerada pelas pessoas.

Le désenchantement, la transgression et l'intention littéraire : le roman néo-policier de Léonardo Padura / Disenchantment, Transgression and Literary Intention : the Neo-crime Novels of Leonardo Padura

García Talaván, Paula 10 December 2014 (has links)
The aim of our research is to study a series of neo-crime novels by the writer Leonardo Padura - the leading exponent of this genre on the island of Cuba-, whose works, while upholding the traits that enable them to be read as detective stories, feature a profound generic transgression at all levels - modal, thematic and formal. He sought to breathe new life into the genre Ŕwhich had been thoroughly exhausted on the island since the mid 1980sŔ and show that by relieving it of its entire political-ideological burden and treating it from a literary perspective, it could attain high artistic merit. In this way, and as we have set out to show, Padura has managed to revitalize the genre and use it as an instrument for questioning the order established by a regime that has sought to bring uniformity to a society that the author considers to be multiracial and heterogeneous. Furthermore, by transforming the formulas and the narrative structures of the crime novel in his own writings, which include and invert the genre‟s traditional models, Padura has managed to challenge the regulatory dogmatism that seeks to classify genres into watertight compartments and relegate the crime novel to the confines of “sub-literature”.

This conclusion paper for the Professional Masters program in Theology has as its goal to analyze the thought of the Brazilian thinker Leonardo Boff in its theological and ecological implications, and to list possibilities for a style of ecclesiastical community education which values the intersubjective relations between human beings and of these with nature and with the cosmos. Boff is an interdisciplinary thinker who dialogs with the social sciences and with the knowledge coming from the natural sciences as well as with the Franciscan mysticism. That is why his thinking provides the broadest and most relevant possible perspectives relating to the themes dealing with what is being called planetary awareness. This is a form of perception in which life in community needs a respect for nature beyond a simple maintenance of an ecological status, one which above all is guided by dialog in action or better put: by the inter-relationality of the I and the You with the This, according to the contextual needs.

The lost manuscripts of Leonardo Da Vinci

Pooler, Richard Shaw 10 1900 (has links)
Customer satisfaction is a key concern in any business strategy. It is often assumed that customer satisfaction can be enhanced using e-services. E-service is defined as interactive service received via the Internet (Jiang et al., 2013). E-service has contributed to business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce by providing on-demand solutions to customers. The relationship with the customer is enhanced by introducing self-service options, product customisation and variety. However, there may also be negative impacts, such as techno-stress and lack of online customer assistance. The primary aim of this research was to develop a conceptual framework to describe the correlation relationship between the factors that influence customers’ adoption of e-services. Organisations use the Internet to attract customers, to conduct financial services and obtain information. This research focussed specifically on online shopping. The Grounded Theory research methodology was chosen for its flexibility and iterative comparison of data. A quantitative survey was conducted to determine the relative significance of the factors uncovered by the Grounded Theory methodology and to validate the hypothesis of the conceptual model. Customer adoption is attained where customer satisfaction is high, where the customer sees value in the service, and where there is customer loyalty or trust. To date, research has focussed primarily on developed countries. Many challenges face South Africa as a Newly Industrialised Country (NIC). The negative factors facing developing countries in terms of e-service adoption include: lack of infrastructure, economic constraints and an emergent socio-political framework. The aim of this research was to build a conceptual model for explaining interrelationships between the identified factors that have an impact on customer e-service adoption. The customer’s perception of technology-driven services affects the organisation’s reputation, which in turn affects profitability. This research will be beneficial to ii managers in local organisations that thrive on e-services. An understanding of customer preferences will lead to improvement of customer services in South Africa. / Art History, Visual Arts & Musicology / D. Litt. et Phil. (Art History)
