His/her participants are eight teachers from different disciplines, working in the evening shift, in high school. The field comprises a period of ten months, since the meetings with the management, coordination and with the teachers of the school, that occurring in the early of January 2015, until the recording of the last interview with the participants, that occurring in the end of October 2015. Its theoretical framework related works from various fields interested in reflecting on the paradigm shift in science in general, and particularly in language studies. Its theoretical framework weaves the critical network of ideologies that cooperate with each other to build the Westerner-European epistemic stabilizer language project. This research seeks to sharp your objectives to the postmodern perspective that intent on building an anti-hegemonic agenda for thinking and doing research in the sciences in general and linguistic studies in particular. For the co-production of the data were used the Questionnaire, the Note-Direct and Semi-Structured Interview. The interaction and analysis of co-produced data revealed that is active in the school an arena of power that located, on the one hand, the system and its constraints to school and to teachers and, on the other hand, the speeches and teaching practices, to adhere to the system or to subversion of this system. Were used as Analysis Categories: Borders; Continuum; Subversive Teaching. As a summary of the analyzes produced, this research found that, despite the unfamiliarity with the concept and the literacies practices, the teacher-participants produce experiences of ideological literacies in their teaching practices. Though the teachers possess greater theoretical depth practice about the notion of interdisciplinarity, even with many constraints that act as inhibitors of the interaction teachers within the school, they assume the risk to produce interdisciplinary experiences. Anyway, it was possible analyze that, even in their speeches are identified traits of modern ideology that understands the language stabilized in the code, in its grammatical structure; in their speeches and in their practices the teacher-participants showed that none of them is failing of the your role to propose to your learners practice of the reading and of the writing texts, as a way to help them to think critically about the language and about your role of symbolic mediation for learning in various branches of knowledge. This time, the teachers revealed that their conception of language and its practices are no longer hegemonic linked to modernity; but are in a field of contradiction: sometimes even tuned to modernity in its stabilizing ideology of language in the code and the grammatical classifications; sometimes even tuned to the anti-hegemonic schedule advocated in this research, a qualitative and ethical proposal of the beholder in education and school a privileged locus to face the challenges presented to us global / locally situated. It is, therefore, a school route at the paradigmatic transformation.

Ensino de línguas, letramentos e desenvolvimento crítico na escola pública: observações e auto-observações / Language teaching, literacies and critical development in public schools: observations and self-observations

Fernando da Silva Pardo 22 March 2018 (has links)
This research resorted to autoethnography as a methodological perspective that transits across the ethnography and the biography, through observations and selfobservations, in order to investigate to what extent Literacies theories (KALANTZIS; COPE 2000, 2008a, LANKSHEAR; KNOBEL, 2003, 2006, 2013, KRESS, 2003, 2010, GEE, 2004) suit or not the teaching of English in the early years of Elementary School, in a school located in the outskirts of Osasco, in São Paulo. The study looked at a pedagogical/educational proposal guided by the referred theories, developed by the researcher and implemented in the aforementioned school. The focus of the analysis was the development of the critical sense, as regards the students; the strategies for the teaching of English; and the performance of the teacher/researcher in this proposal. Some of the main objectives were to examine the epistemologies related to the conceptions of language teaching in this context and to problematize other manners to approach the English language teaching in a critical way in view of the peculiar characteristics of the individuals and the field. Considering the existence of serious issues, such as the lack of didactical and technological resources, the lack of suitable spaces for the pedagogical practices, the large number of students per class and several other economic and social problems, the working hypothesis assumes that these issues do not impede the development of situated practices. These practices aimed to develop a plural teaching based on the diversity that takes place in the public school in order to promote the students\' agency and a critical education. Based on the theoretical framework consulted and the municipal curricular guidelines, the study verified that the skills traditionally worked in Elementary School do not take into account the new paradigms of communication and education. The data analysis demonstrated that the field was pedagogically outdated. Besides, there was a certain distance between the observed practices and the current curricular guidelines. Finally, we came to the conclusion that in order to develop pedagogical/educational proposals guided by Literacy theories in public Elementary School it is important to consider the context of the individuals as well as the context of the school and the community where the practices occur. Also, in the context investigated the use of digital technologies is not indispensable in order to develop concepts such as citizenship, agency and diversity.

Decree 5,154 / 04, while more recent legislation aimed at this stage of Basic Education, despite also being influenced by economic interests, advances in the sense of allowing Technical Professional Education to be offered in the modality Integrated to High School under the articulation of the axes Work, Science, Technology and Culture (BRASIL, 2007). Thus, it is intended that the pedagogical practices of the curricular components for this modality of education surpass the purely technical knowledge for a practice with sights to the broad formation of the subjects. The Curriculum Guidelines for Higher Education (CGHE) in the section on Foreign Languages suggest that the teaching practices of this curricular component should be based on Critical Literacies Theories in order that such practices become the means for the development of a sense of citizenship, creative, critical and open mind (BRAZIL, 2006), in short, knowledge that equips subjects to deal with the current context of constant change and diverse subjects. In this way, this research has sought to investigate in what ways, when they are based on theories of Critical Literacies, the teaching practices in English Language classes - EL - of the Technical Course in Farming Integrated to High School can better contribute to the integral formation of the students of the IFPA ? Castanhal Campus, as advocated by the pertinent legislation. The data collected comes from participant observation and audio recording of EL classes during the execution of a didactic sequence elaborated by me as a researcher teacher, based on these theoretical principles and using authentic multimodal texts. Theoretical studies and research have shown that pedagogical practices guided by Critical Literacies principles can contribute to an education beyond linguistic instrumentation and job market preparation by encouraging students to read themselves and the world critically / Os projetos de Educa??o Profissional T?cnica no Brasil sempre estiveram voltados para atender aos interesses do mercado econ?mico e destinados aos trabalhadores como uma forma??o compensat?ria para aqueles que n?o teriam acesso ao ensino superior, sem levar em conta suas necessidades enquanto sujeitos e cidad?os.

Aragão, Cristiane Moura Lima de 07 October 2015 (has links)
This research aims to investigate how the Internet can contribute to the teaching of Italian as a foreign language, through the analysis of the digital writing of students from a course with a focus on culture, of their participation in the blog of this course, as well as from questionnaires answered by them. The study is based on three theoretical frameworks: Longs Interaction Hypothesis (1981), in Applied Linguistics and Language Acquisition, studies on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Language Teaching, and studies on Digital Literacies. The research is longitudinal, based on a qualitative approach, and the method used is the case study. Data were obtained from a course in Italian culture, developed and taught by us in 2013, along with the extracurricular courses of Italian language and culture of the Italian on Campus, offered by the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Literature, and Human Sciences (FFLCH) of the University of São Paulo. The purpose of the course was to conduct a virtual journey through Italy, its language and culture, using the Internet during the lessons and outside them. In addition, we have created a collective blog that featured the participation of the students of the course. The participants were all digital immigrants, according to the term proposed by Prensky (2001), who presented different levels of linguistic and digital literacies. The survey data are formed by questionnaires answered by the participants of the course, by drafts and original versions of the texts produced by them, by their posts and comments published on the blog, by a few e-mails written by them, and by our evaluation of changes in the students concerning the use of Internet and some other aspects observed during the course. Regarding the textual production of the participants, the analysis pointed out the following contributions from the use of the Internet and the blog: increase of vocabulary due to the input offered, greater agility in writing, and more ease in expressing themselves in Italian. The analysis indicated that the level of digital literacies of students enables them to a greater or lesser participation in the blog, but it is not a determining factor. It is necessary also to take into account the preference for oral or written skills, the importance ascribed to the writing on learning, some expectations about the course, the age, and an independent or autonomous attitude of students towards learning. The results demonstrated changes in the autonomy of students, suggesting a particular case of autonomy: learning to learn from the Internet. Another result observed was the greater use of Internet and technological resources in Italian studies by the students.

Literacias digitais nos cursos de Graduação em Relações Públicas: disciplinas de tecnologia nas matrizes curriculares de universidades brasileiras / Digital literacies in Undergraduate courses in Public Relations: technology subjects in core curricula of Brazilian universities

Vergili, Rafael 06 April 2017 (has links)
The present study aims at evaluating whether Brazilian universities have increased their course load and number of technology subjects in the core curricula of their Undergraduate Public Relations course, mainly after the issue of the 2013 Curricular Guidelines in Upper-Level Education (DCNs). In order to accomplish its purpose, besides the review of the literature, it had been conducted the mapping of all Undergraduate courses of Public Relations available in Brazil; qualitative research by means of in-depth interviews with Higher Education Institutions (IES) coordinators; and document analysis where the core curricula of ten universities from Brazil and from abroad were analyzed. We understand that the rupture of the dividing line between transmitter and receiver, caused mainly by the advent of the Web, sped up information exchanges, which caused an impact on Public Relations activities as well as on the HEIs, which needed to adapt themselves to a new reality in order to educate their students. With the DCNs of the PR course, published in the Official Federal Gazette of October 1st, 2013, which provide a broad concern for aspects regarding technology, we seemingly searched for some integration with those changes. After choosing 10 universities pursuant to criteria of the General Index for Programs (IGC) of the Inep/MEC (National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira/Ministry of Education) and based on the ratio of courses according to the country\'s areas, interviews with Undergraduate courses of PR coordinators from public and private universities were conducted, in order to investigate how the subject \"technology\" is viewed in different Brazilian realities. Through methodological procedures, a significant increase of the number of technology subjects were verified, and most importantly, of the course load regarding the subject, which may allow the increase of development of skills and competencies (digital literacies) in order to deal with digital platforms.

Investigando concepções de língua e cultura no ensino de inglês na escola pública segundo as teorias de letramento / Investigating conceptions of language and culture in English teaching in public schools according to theories of literacies

Marreiro, Samara de Cassia Rodrigues 26 November 2012 (has links)
This research presents an investigation regarding the conceptions of language and culture identified in the speeches and teaching practices of two English teachers of formal education in public schools. The reports of this investigation are analyzed under the methodological standpoint of an interpretative-qualitative research, with ethnographic aspects (GEERTZ, 1978; ANDRE, 2008). It serves then as a starting point for a discussion about this theme from the perspective of the educational theories of new literacies and multiliteracies. This discussion takes into account the recent ongoing changes in society (COPE; KALANTZIS, 2000), the influence of globalization (BAUMAN, 1998; HALL, 1992; SUÁREZ-OROZCO, M.M. & QIN-HILLIARD, 2004), epistemological changes (LANKSHEAR; KNOBEL, 2003; MORIN, 2000; MONTE MÓR 2002, 2008, 2009a), and an emphasis on the educational, cultural, and critical aspects of foreign language teaching in formal education (OCEM-LE, 2006). Given the resulting analyzes of classroom observations, interviews and informal conversations with the teachers, questionnaires answered by students, and document analysis, we identified concepts that highlight elements assigned to the so-called traditional notions of language and culture. That is, language as an abstract structural system based mainly on grammar or as a tool of communication. Culture, in turn, is regarded in its anthropological and humanist sense, generally dissociated from language. We also found that both teachers know and study foreign language teaching approaches that encompass sociocultural concepts of language, however, seeming not to apply or relate these concepts to their own teaching practices in a way to transform them. Such indications, however, did not arise in a linear and homogeneous way, since the pedagogical practices and narratives of the teachers were discontinuous and conflicting. Both teachers were quite concerned and committed to their work and to the continuing search for making their practices meaningful.

Does an iPad Change the Experience? A Look at Mother-Child Book Reading Interactions

MacKay, Kathryn L. 01 July 2015 (has links)
Researchers have long argued the importance of shared book reading and its potential impact on future reading growth. With the increasing popularity of e-books and the introduction of interactive iPad books, more and more parents are sharing books with their children in digital format. This may have a direct impact on the nature of the interactions that occur during young children's early book sharing experiences. This multiple-case study examined the nature of the interactions between six mother-child dyads as they read a story on an iPad compared with the interactions that happened during a traditional book reading. A coding system was developed to categorize behaviors during the reading sessions. The categories included (a) meaning talk, (b) text and print talk, (c) technology talk, and (d) the nature of the affective climate. The results of this study indicate that mother-child traditional read-alouds and digital iPad read-alouds are different experiences. During digital readings there was an increase in the number of vocabulary-related (a subcategory of meaning) interactions but a decrease in the number of interactions related to text and print. The results also showed that as the dyad shared a digital storybook, they engaged in many interactions about the technological elements of the iPad texts, which may be important to the development of digital literacies in young children. The findings also indicate that a child is more engaged with digital texts than with traditional texts, which is important because engagement is an essential component in literacy development. However, sometimes the child's increased engagement with the digital texts resulted in both members of the dyad being less sensitive to the other. Digital storybook reading is a relatively new experience for many parents and thus, they may not know how to interact with their children in ways that promote the development of traditional and digital literacies.

The Blue Glow From the Back Row: The Impact of New Technologies on the Adolescent Experience of Live Theatre

Richardson, John M. 12 October 2010 (has links)
This article considers the impact of new technologies on the adolescent experience of live, literary theatre. Drawing together the work of theorists in literacies, new technologies and audience studies, together with brain research, and the results of a focus group of four secondary students who have seen four plays at Canada’s National Arts Centre, it examines the consequences of young people’s immersion in digital culture and the new mindset that often results. The expectation of instant access to data, inter-connectivity, stimulation and control can make it difficult for adolescents to decode the metaphorical aspects of a theatrical performance. The article concludes that language arts and dramatic arts educators have a key role in teaching students how to decode—and therefore enjoy and appreciate— a play.

Alter(n)ative Literacies: Elementary Teachers' Practices with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse students in one French-language School in Ontario

Prasad, Gail 14 December 2009 (has links)
This case study was conducted in one elementary French-language school in Ontario with 1 administrator, 4 teachers and their culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students. Through the integration of bhabha’s (1994) notion of Third space, multiple literacies theory (Cummins, 2001; Masny 2009) and by drawing on interviews, observations, and students’ work samples, I conceptualise an alter(n)ative literacies framework to address growing diversity in French-language schools. The term alter(n)ative is developed to express the intertwined benefit of expanding traditional notions of literacy to include alternative language practices and the potential alter-ative effect of re-envisioning the resources children bring to their literacy and language development at school. This thesis argues that teachers can critically (re)interprete official policies concerning Frenchlanguage schools in order to effectively foster students’ alter(n)ative literacies development. In doing so, teachers affirm the plurality of students’ multiple identities as a foundation for their participation within evolving cosmopolitan franco-ontarian communities.
