Intimacy and distance in the age of technology : How technology and digital media platforms help couples in long-distance relationships create and nurture intimacy

Muntean, Natalia January 2019 (has links)
This study looks into the intricacies of long-distance romantic relationships and the ways in which intimacy is created and nurtured with the help of technology and digital media platforms. It uses a methodological triangulation, combining quantitative content analysis with qualitative interviews, as tools to investigate the doings of couples who find themselves geographically challenged. The results point out to the fact that people adapt to these circumstances and use technology as a third player of the relationship, creating and maintaining intimacy mainly through conversations and stepping away from the physical side of a romantic relationship.

Rocha, Carla Pires Vieira January 2009 (has links)
This dissertation entitled "Temple of the media: the museums under the sign of information and communication" includes a discussion of the museums, from the introduction of digital technologies. Through a study of the Museum of the Portuguese language, aimed to understand the use of such technologies in that context, in the form of interactive multimedia and audiovisual. The study shows that there is a redefinition of the concept of operational issues involving the museum in its collection, its ownership and the public approach. For a long time, museums have had their actions aimed at conservation of collections, now, the focus is directed to the viewer and processes, involving interactive media. Furthermore, with the introduction of these technologies and their languages, is the repeated nature of museums as spaces of imagination and fiction.

Higher education meets private use of social media technologies : An explorative study of students’ use

Josefsson, Pernilla January 2017 (has links)
The work in this thesis sets out to explore how students perceive social media use in the context of higher education. More precisely, the focus is on students' use of, experience with, and attitudes toward the integration of social media into their learning environment. To complement this, teachers' incentives for including social media have been studied; to some extent their communication, attitudes, and online activity were also analyzed. The four different studies included in this thesis incorporated three major types of social media technologies: a social networking service (Facebook), a collaborative editable webpage (Wikipedia), and a microblog (Twitter). The studies adopted different approaches to data collection and analysis, including both qualitative and quantitative methods. The specific methods for each study were chosen to accommodate the research questions, for reasons of access to information, and due to ethical considerations. While each study differs in starting point and scope and provide particular contributions to the research area, the main contributions of the work as a whole are connected to findings on attitude changes, the professional role in students' use of social media, their teacher-like actions, confusion regarding moving between the identified roles, and the implementation of social media in higher education. The findings presented here are appropriate for guiding a nuanced discussion regarding the implementation of social media technologies in higher education, an implementation that was found to be contingent on appropriate use and a suitable social context. The findings suggest that the inclusion of social media in non-private contexts generally needs to have a clear aim and strategy for achieving it. The roles defined in this work - in terms of both being a student and the private and professional roles - could also serve as the basis for further exploration in other areas with comparable hierarchies in which it is necessary to understand how the individual relates to self-presentation, technological constraints, and roles, such as the relation between an employer and employee. /
QC 20171211

Divadlo a nová média / Theatre and new media

Tupá, Jana January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this work is to describe and analyze the relation between theatre and new media. This is realized by definition of new media, definition of theatre, its origin and chronological development, description of the chronological development of theatre technologies and by analysis of the relationship between theatre and new media from three viewpoints: through plays incorporating elements of new media, plays using new media as a part of scenography, and plays playing about new media; with focus on Czech cultural environment. The practical part of the diploma work shows the use of new media in current theatre on a real play from these three viewpoints. The undertaken analysis discovered new media are used in theatre not only as a part of scenography, but influence theatre by its characteristic principles and become the main topic of theatre plays, following the chosen theory which sees theatre as a reflection of the world. The result of this work is a complex study of interconnecting theatre and technology focusing on new media and analysis of their relation to the current theatre.

Putting hard figures on soft values : A quantitative analysis of the impact of consumer engagement on social media for a VOD-service provider / Att sätta hårda siffror på mjuka värden : En kvantitativ analys av effekterna av konsumentengagemang på sociala medier för en VOD-tjänstleverantör

Tavakolian, Poya January 2015 (has links)
In the spring of 2015 this study began and it had the goal of answering questions regarding the importance of consumer engagement for a VOD service provider, the TV4-group. The goal was to get answers to guide them in the building of a new VOD service for the latter half of 2015. The questions were: what role does consumer engagement play in creating social media presence for a VOD provider? How do consumers behave surrounding social media engagement for VOD-service? And lastly: what effect does social media presence and consumer engagement have for a VOD provider? To answer these questions two sets of quantitative methods were used. A survey answered by 970 individuals and a tracker put on the main VOD sites owned and run by the TV4-group gave insights that led to answering the questions. Consumer engagement plays a large role in expanding the reach of VOD services, in the case of the TV4-group it was shown that consumer engagement made up a reach gain equivalent to 55,7% of average TV4 Play views, 17,3% of average Facebook upload views and 172% of tv4.se views. Consumers also evaluated their own: usage, sharing habits and sharing types giving insight to their behaviour. The effects of all this stretches from more views as a result of reach to consumer loyalty making consumer engagement a cornerstone in planning a VOD providers social media strategy.
