Johnsson, Maria, Truedsson, Jesper January 2019 (has links)
Through the smartphone's breakthrough and advancement, the mobile phone has in just a few years become one of the most central parts in many individuals' lives. It is used, among other things, to keep in touch with family, friends and colleagues, to communicate and be active in different social online activities. Many people are social beings who talks and communicate with other individuals most of the time. But there is a lack of something that may seem obvious; be able to have an oral conversation with another human being without a mobile phone in any way being included in the picture. Sherry Turkle and Professor Jean M. Twenge have been conducting research for many years on children and young adults who are frequent users of smartphones. Many of these young people have never had any choice but to have a smartphone and their entire social life exists through it. One growing phenomena is that many of these young people communicate with each other through text in their smartphones, even though they sit next to each other in the same room. Children do not play together as they did in the past and their emotional development seems to progress more slowly. The purpose of the following survey is to create a counterweight to this fosterage and, through a media-technical perspective, present a mobile application that encourages and inspires oral dialogues between individuals.

Tillfälliga öar : – tillsammans med havet i materiell-diskursiva praktiker / Temporary Islands

Krohn, Anton, Petersson, Daniel January 2014 (has links)
In this Bachelor thesis we aim to establish a conversation with the sea. With Karen Barads posthumanist performativity, agential realism, as our companion we aim to challenge the anthropocentric role of the designer. In doing this we question the view of materiality as passive and the designer as the sole creator of meaning in the design process. With Barads onto-epistemological standpoint we explore how the process of design is enacted in a performance of human and non-human actors, where meaning is negotiated through relations within phenomena. By putting this posthumanist notion into practice through playful experiments together-with-the-sea, we can understand how meaning is situated and shaped within the material-discursive phenomenas and apparatuses that is, and is part of, the design process. We understand the design process as an intervening in the world’s becoming. An intervening where an assemblage of actors stands as co-creators and where meaning, bodies, subject and object is enacted and co-shaped through intra-action. This perspective gives us an awareness of our responsibility to intervene in the world’s becoming and our accountability for the bodies produced, an ethics in action.

Mendes, Esther Barbosa 23 May 2012 (has links)
This work aims to analyze and provide coherence on the teaching hypertext platform "Domus: Brazilian Software for Support to the Building Energy Efficiency Regulation Program", considering technological support and strong virtual insertion. In this way, the hypertext characteristics effects on the coherence have been verified as well as the marks that make hypertext to be considered as a text, but with different specificities of the conventional text, characterizing types of hypertext links and establishing the relationship between the different types of links and coherence factors. For the analysis of hypertexts, coherence has been the key element as it is primarily responsible for the quality of the text. Thus, by considering a course in hypertextual system - indexed to the functions of the Internet and links to return, to reiterate and to go deep in the content - the following coherence factors were correlated: focus, inferences, situationality and contextual factors (centered on the producer), intertextuality (centered on both producer and user) and consistency, relevance and informativeness (centered on the user). Those three last factors have shown more evident due to the fact that coherence will be achieved only if users can establish meaning to what they read. Regarding the hypertextual coherence, three factors were listed that distinguish effectively and impact on the planning and development of hypertext: i) the process of discontinuous text; ii) lack of visible boundaries in the documents and iii) lack of a fixed sequence of the text. These issues can be eased, especially in the case of hypertext teaching, using technological tools such as those used in the graphic organizer, which is a concept map that allows easy orientation and contextualization at both global and local levels. Five types of links (internals, anchors, externals, exclusive externals and hybrids) were found, and coherence in hypertext courseware was very sensitive to the external link, due to both the user difficulty to maintain the relevance of the topics set by the producer in the base text and the uncountable information arranged in a new environment, the web site. In this way, we asserted that the exclusive external link should be used in teaching hypertexts as a search function or as a reference, since the producer cannot manage the paths chosen by a hiper reader, which makes very difficult the production of coherence. Therefore, we believe that the production of coherence in teaching hypertexts can be accomplished even with its peculiarities, requiring the producer takes them into account, establishing links that are, in fact, keywords and the remission of their contents to be consistent to the subject and topic treated in the source hypertext.

50-talisternas färd genom det digitala samhället : En kvalitativ studie om hur 50-talister förhåller sig till dagens mediesamhälle / Fifties as a generation, a journey through digital society : A qualitative study on how a generation relate to today's media society

Folkesson, Filippa, Helmersson, Madelene January 2018 (has links)
The study aims at seeking knowledge about how people born in the fifties experience the current media society and how they view their own use of today's media technology. The questions asked in the thesis include; how the informants view today's media technology, how they use today's media technology and how the informants compare today's media technology in contrast to how it was when they grew up. The theories for the thesis include Krekula and Johansson's theory of age, as well as Mannheim's theory of generation. The approach used to gather information was semi-structured qualitative interviews, where six women were interviewed. Through this approach, together with our theoretical framework we can derived that the informants view on today’s new media technology includes that they know that they use media technology to a large degree but continue the usage in the same extent. They are worried that the physical encounter between people will disappear due to current media technology, but they see more benefits than disadvantages. The main reason for their use was to maintain relationships with acquaintances. Some of the informants use media technology all the time, while others try to avoid it. How the informants look at today's media technology in comparison to what it looked like when they grew up include that the informants thought that life calmer before, and that media technology might have brought more stress into their lives. This study can be a supplement on the area of elderly and current media technology research, as the research in this area is mostly focused on people older than 80 years. This study can therefore contribute information from a younger generation of the elderly.

Disadvantages of using non-linear video in shallow learning situations : A critical perspective on current trends / Negativa effekter av icke-linjär video för ytlig inlärning : Ett kritiskt perspektiv på aktuella trender

Herrera, Mikael, Schierbeck, Georg January 2016 (has links)
Video learning material has reported benefits to in-person lectures, and it can improve knowledge transfer (Bishop & Verleger, 2013; Kim, 2013). Modern educational methods such as flipped classroom and MOOCs (MOOC, 2016) depend on implementing video as a learning resource. Furthermore, the traditional linear video has long been challenged by nonlinear video, both in terms of having interactive material (Zhang et al. 2006) and sectioned, indexed contents. In a critical approach (Bardzell, J & Bardzell, S, 2013) we investigated disadvantages to the non-linear way of using video; in particular if non-linear video streamlines the retrieval of information. We conducted an observational experiment to examine the efficiency of non-linear video compared to linear video. Results from the observation experiment conducted in this thesis, shows that the non-linear video group tended to answer less questions, within the same amount of time as the group which used the linear video.

Dynamic real-time scene voxelization and an application for large scale scenes / Dynamisk voxelisering av stora 3D-miljöer

Valter, Andreas January 2015 (has links)
This report describes a basic implementation of scene voxelization within the Frostbite engine created by EA Frostbite. The algorithm supports dynamic scenes by voxelizing in real-time using the Graphical Programming Unit. The voxel grid is stored inside a buffer with a binary representation using clip mapping and multiple levels of detail. An ambient occlusion algorithm is implemented to show the benefits of the structure. Results from running the application within the engine is presented, both with figures showing the resulting image and timings for diifferent parts of the algorithm. Several future improvements to make the algorithm more competitive is presented as well.

Re-design av Titanpriset : Hur man utformar en designlösning som tillfredsställer intressenternas behov / Re-design of the Titan award : How to create a design solution that satisfies the stakeholders needs

Arntzen Svensson, Lena January 2014 (has links)
The expression of visual design have sins long been important in graphic design because it conveys so much more than the eye see. A brand does not only represent the name of the company but also its purpose and idea. Therefore is it so important that the visual profile radiates the organization's vision in a clear way and gives the viewer a pleasant overall experience. Many times can it help to freshen up a brand's visual identity in order to successfully launch the company again and to some extent also increase its consumption. This essay presents the production and the designprocess of Sveriges Kommunikationsbyråers ( Komm! ) Titan award. Komm! thought the Titan award needed to have its own identity and gave me the task to create this. The current logo was not harmonious or particularly well executed and therefore did the company demand a re-production of the Titan award. The criteria for the reproduction of the Titan award was that they wanted a clean, clear and creative new design solution. An interview and content analysis have been performed to get the results presented at the end of the studie. These methods have been used to gain a deeper understanding of what constitutes visual profiles and logos. Also research of previous work and scientific papers have been read to acquire more knowledge about the topic.

Presentation av reservdelskatalog med modellbaserat konstruktionsunderlag : En fallstudie av Saabs konceptutveckling för teknikinformation till stridsflygplanet Gripen NG / Presentation of Illustrated Parts Catalog with Model-based Design Data : A Case Study of Saab's Concept Development of Technical Communication for the Fighter Aircraft Gripen NG

Glansberg, Sven January 2012 (has links)
In the military aerospace industry, product data management in the product lifecycle, and development of logistics support are key areas that affect management of requirements and costs. The most recent strategy for these challenges is model-based definition (MBD). The discipline of technical communication has yet to explore and exploit the potential of MBD. Expected benefits include better ways of presenting illustrations and more efficient methodologies for production. This problem was investigated through a case study of the concept development of technical communication for Saab's fighter aircraft Gripen NG. The study focused on the illustrated parts catalog and its use. This work contributes with a model that describes four design levels for information systems, where presentation is the one in focus. In addition, comparable practices for management of MBD data were investigated in the case. The study found that the technical communication department is facing a transition from document-based management to development of information systems. Furthermore, three proposals for the next generation of parts catalogs are discussed. Two conclusions were reached. First, a lack of knowledge regarding the use of the parts catalog makes it difficult to assess new ways of presentation. And second, the improvements made in methodology and presentation in other MBD applications of the product life cycle are not immediately transferable to the parts catalog. Hence, suggestions for future research and work are presented.
