Efficient social media marketing for sustainable fashion companies : Increasing interest and engagement on Instagram among millennial males by appealing to their values.

Lilja, Natalia January 2019 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify how social media, specifically Instagram can be used to encourage interest among the millennial male for sustainable fashion products. The study contributes to give marketing insights and a broader understanding of the millennial male’s online behaviour, so that fashion companies within the sustainable sector of the industry can benefit from these when broadening their target market. The findings are to contribute within the field of textile management. Design/method/approach: The study has used a model based on millennial male values that were connected to visual picture content. The model illustrates how the millennial male is influenced by several factors and values, ultimately determining which type of visual social media content that results in the most engagement and interest for sustainable products. The methods included posting visual content on two different channels on the Instagram profile of a sustainable fashion company aimed at mainly millennial males. Different kinds of engagement with the content was measured in order to determine which type of content was the most successful at encouraging interest among millennial males towards sustainable fashion products. Findings: The findings of this research show that pictures posted on both Instagram feed and Instagram stories with social and aesthetic, as well as close-up and detail content, are likely to perform well and encourage interaction and engagement on Instagram. The findings also show that production related pictures are not generating an interest from the millennial male. Moreover, in order to reach a wider audience with the content shared on Instagram stories and feed content need to be used simultaneously. These findings suggest that companies can encourage male millennials to purchase sustainable products by appealing to their values. Practical implications: The findings by this study are valuable for sustainable fashion companies that are looking for ways to improve their reach and engagement with millennial males. The findings of this value can also benefit marketers to improve their marketing strategy on Instagram. Originality/value: The findings show that Instagram can be used to reach out to a wide spread of Instagram users with an interest of sustainable fashion. Moreover, the findings suggest that companies can encourage sustainable fashion consumption through appealing to the values of their target market, using social media content.

Luminous red galaxies in simulations

Ratsimbazafy, Ando Lalaina January 2010 (has links)
>Magister Scientiae - MSc / There have been a number of attempts to measure the expansion rate of the Universe using age-dating of Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs).Assuming stars in LRGs form at the same time, age-dating of two populations of LRGs at different redshifts can provide an estimate of the time difference associated with the corresponding redshift interval (dt/dz). This gives a direct estimate of the Hubble parameter at the average redshift of the two populations. In this thesis, we explore the validity of the assumptions in this method using LRGs identified in the Millenium Simulation. We study the properties of LRGs simulated using two semi-analytical models for galaxy evolution and discuss LRG selection criteria. We use stellar population modelling and spectral synthesis to estimate the errors on ages that can be expected and discuss optimization of an age-dating experiment. We find that H(z) using simulated galaxies from MS can be recovered with high accuracy. Using Single Stellar Populations (SSPs) to age -date LRGs is not sufficient for this experiment but if the star formation histories of galaxies are used, accurate ages are obtainable. We discuss an observing program to carry out this experiment using SALT (Southern African Large Telescope).

From a Dark Millennium Comes the Music of Amber: A Comparative Study of Two Works by Joseph Schwantner

Popejoy, James 08 1900 (has links)
The two works of Joseph Schwantner which are the focus of this study, are quite unique for this composer. These two pieces represent the only instance in which Schwantner used the same music for two different compositions. From a Dark Millennium, and Sanctuary from the Music of Amber, are identical in musical material, form and length. While From a Dark Millennium was written for a large wind ensemble, Sanctuary was scored for a sextet of flute, clarinet/bass clarinet, violin, cello, piano, and percussion. The comparative analysis of these pieces reveal the essence of the music, as well as explores the scoring of each version. Both the melodic and harmonic material in this music is based almost entirely on an octatonic scale of alternating whole and half steps. Very little musical material is used in these works, however the approach toward expanding this material is exceptionally creative. The music shifts abruptly from sections that are sparse and soloistic, to scoring that is very dense. While the piano is utilized as the central timbre in both versions, the wind ensemble presents a much heavier and more percussive sound throughout. The chamber version, due to its size and instrumentation, is more ethereal, and features the performers in a soloistic environment. In examining both of these works, many of the distinctive traits found in the music of Joseph Schwantner are exhibited. The differences between these two versions help to illustrate his unique approach to composition and orchestration. The two works have also had a significant impact in their respective performance media as well. From a Dark Millennium has become an important part of the repertoire for wind ensembles; and Music of Amber, which won the 1981 Kennedy Center Friedheim Award for excellence in chamber composition, is one of Schwantner's most performed chamber pieces.

Trilogie Milénium v žánrových proměnách / The Millennium trilogy in the genre transformations

Hofmanová, Petra January 2016 (has links)
In the thesis I would like to focus on the very topical literary work: Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson who died in 2004. The trilogy consists of three parts: The girl with the dragon tattoo, The girl who played with fire and The girl who kicked the hornets' nest. The trilogy will be examined from the perspective of genre determination. With the professional literature I would like to describe each genre and it's possibility of use. I would also like to find a typical features of particular genre in different forms: situations, characters, conflicts, etc. One part of my thesis will be dedicated to the writer and his autobiography traits. I would also like to turn to the fourth part of the trilogy by David Lagercrantz. I will try to answer the question why the trilogy has been extended, what literature genre is characteristic for the writer and what changes have been made in content or formal features of the story. During my work I would like to compare the trilogy with other Nordic literature pieces to find the cause of increasing sale of this kind of literature nowadays.

Metas sociais nacionais e federalismo no Brasil: a necessidade da integração dos sistemas de informação social / National socials goals and federalism in Brazil: the need of national integration of the social data information systems

Castro, Daniela Rodriguez de 01 June 2006 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 TeseMestradoDanielaCastro.pdf: 387748 bytes, checksum: d8231d38cc3e94a5b322e37515d2bb44 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006-06-01 / This purpose of this research is to study the importance of national integration of the social data information systems as an essential instrument for public policy planning with a view to Brazil s social and economic development and to the country s social goals. The lack of an integrated system corroborates the level of improvisation of the Brazilian public administration and shows how fragile the State is in preparing and implementing policies to foster social and economic development. Social policies are not based on a diagnosis of their quality, nor are there indicators to monitor the implementation and results of such policies. Moreover, public authorities do not consider time limits or goals for the social area. That is why this study supports the need to establish social goals, rather than fiscal goals only, to which the executive authorities will be committed so as to include social development as a target to be reached through public policy planning. Having such approach in mind, in this study we conducted an analysis of the concept of social-economic development, public policy planning and information, considering also the use of national social goals, utilizing, as an example, the UN Millenium Development Goals, in addition to examining the current responsibilities of the local governments and discussing the importance of federal coordination in attaining country-wide goals. This study resulted in a draft proposal for the national integration of the social data information systems, including certain technical and legal aspects involving the implementation thereof and a ratification of the importance of such integration in order to reach the country s social goals / Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar a importância da integração nacional dos sistemas de informação social como instrumento essencial ao planejamento das políticas públicas para o desenvolvimento socioeconômico e para o alcance de metas sociais nacionais.

Variabilité climatique centre/est Pacifique au cours du dernier millénaire reconstruite à partir d’analyses géochimiques sur des coraux massifs / Last centuries variability in the central/eastern tropical pacific reconstructed from massive coral geochemical analysis

Moreau, Melanie 21 November 2014 (has links)
The Pacific Ocean is the place of interannual and multi-decadal climate variabilities, namely the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO). There can have globals impacts via teleconnections. Major impacts on populations, economic and environmental activitieshave been attributed to ENSO. It is therefore essential to improve our understanding of the Pacificdynamic, particularly ENSO activity and its evolution under recent climate change.Geochemical measurements (Sr/Ca and 818O) performed on corals are relevant paleoclimatic records for studying the evolution of ENSO and are essential to put into perspective the current climatedynamic in comparison to past climate. After an evaluation of the robustness of the coral geochemical paleothermometer (Sr/Ca), we present the reconstruction of sea surface temperature (SST) from Eastern tropical Pacific coral (Clippertonatoll) and central tropical Pacific coral (Marquesas archipelago) covering several parts of the last millennium. Our results suggest that ENSO spatial pattern was relatively stable over the past two centuries, mainly indicating an eastern Pacific ENSO pattern (canonical) in comparison to the centralPacific ENSO (Modoki). Although still debated, this spatial pattern could have recently changed dueto global climate change (and this could continue in the future). At the decadal timescale, both studiedareas (central and eastern Pacific) are influenced by the PDO.The results of this Phd thesis also suggest that the present day ENSO activity (under the influence ofanthropogenic forcing) is not atypical throughout the last millennium. The intensity and frequency of ENSO were stronger in the early Little Ice Age (LIA, 16th century). These results are compared withan ensemble of climate simulations (PMIP3) and indicate that ENSO variability is correctly reproduced by numerical climate models but that these models fail to correctly reproduce the mean temperature state of the Pacific.

The Millenium Development Goals : a critical look on their implementation by the Anglican churches of two countries of South : Angola and RDC

Mansita, Sangi 09 October 2014 (has links)
The attention is focused in our thesis on the question of how the Anglican communion in general, and the Anglican Churches of Angola and RDC in particular, have appropriated resolutions and recommandations resulting from the TEAM Conference. The concept of "poverty" in the broad sense is the root of all the problems plaguing societies and the churches of the South. Nowadays, a certain number of missionary and pastoral initiatives which appear to be based purely on piety always have unexpressed motives which have to do with the pursuit of personal material interests. The emphasis has always been placed on economic growth as a necessary factor which can be used for raising the standard of living of the poor in the South. However, there are many States that have experienced considerable economic growth, like Angola, but the income of the poor class increases so unbalanced and uneven, and stlll is, for many famillies, unsatisfactory. The Millennium Declaration declared poverty in all its dimensions to be the main challenge facing humanity, an iron curtain which needed to be breached for the development of Southem Nations. Given the extent of poverty which, despite multiple routes taken and solutions envisaged, continues to grow, we quickly realize that it is only the African who is, in our opinion, the origin of the misery of his country and his continent. Therefore, we can continue to consider many measures and the economy of different factors to end the crisis, but the main factor is the African man himself. The people of the South are, above all, at the mercy of internal forces. We are witnessing the defeat of intelligence, the loss of reason and autonomy on the part of a number of African policies, creating institutions cut off from all ability to make free and wise choices, working as a priority for the "politics of the belly".
