Developing, Evaluating, and Demonstrating an Open Source Gateway and Mobile Application for the Smartfarm Decision Support SystemFink, Caleb D. 01 June 2018 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this research is to design, develop, evaluate, and demonstrate an open source gateway and mobile application for the SmartFarm open source decision support system to improve agricultural stewardship, environmental conservation, and provide farmers with a system that they own. There are very limited options for an open source gateway for collecting data on the farm. The options available are: expensive, require professional maintenance, are not portable between systems, improvements are made only by the manufacturer, limited in customization options, difficult to operate, and data is owned by the company rather than the farmer. The gateway is designed to send data to the cloud from remote SmartFarm Data Acquisition (DAQ) nodes, collect measurement data from remote SmartFarm DAQ nodes, provide a means of wirelessly programming remote SmartFarm DAQ nodes, and a tool that provides data analysis and insight from remote SmartFarm DAQ nodes. It is evaluated to work with 900MHz radios, SmartFarm DAQ nodes, and costs $35. Its setup takes 4 steps and ~20 minutes installation time, does not require maintenance, can utilize Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other wireless protocols, and software can port to other systems. The gateway measured data rate of 93.4Mbit/s internet upload speed, passing a range of 252 to 1592 bytes of data from a remote node to the cloud, consumes 2.8 Watts, with a software efficiency of 25% CPU usage, a measurement efficiency of 1 message every 15 seconds, can provide data analysis with the cloud service tool, and it can wirelessly program remote DAQ nodes. The goal of the mobile app is educating farmers, academia, and community members, of farming sustainably today, and for the future. The app is used as a tool to aid people in farming sustainably, teaching agricultural stewardship, and teaching environmental conservation. The app is evaluated with adaptation of 85.1%, frequency of use at 0.12 respondents/minute, and 22 respondents said they find the SmartFarm DSS as beneficial. By developing, evaluating, and demonstrating the gateway and mobile app, the SmartFarm decision support system is a viable option for improving agricultural stewardship and retaining farmers’ ownership of their data.

Čeští vývojáři a mobilní platformy: kvalitativní studie / Czech developers and mobile platformsAlexandre, Berenika January 2015 (has links)
This Master's degree thesis deals with a specific area of creative industries: development of mobile applications. The aim is to identify and understand the work routines of Czech iOS developers while considering the importance of design as one of the benchmarks of mobile application quality on the Apple App Store. I mainly focus on mapping work routines of selected developers and their thinking about design in the context of Apple devices and iOS platform, assuming that Apple establishes a high standard of visual and functional qualities. I am addressing an issue of application usability not only in terms of design of the user interface, but also its functioning and more aspects of application development within the ecosystem of Czech mobile app industry. The theoretical part of my thesis subjectively describes fundamental concepts from the mobile app development field and theories related to the topic. Empirical part of the study is based on qualitative interviews with 9 Czech mobile app developers and following thematic analysis. This study can serve as an interesting resource of understanding of the work of Czech mobile app developers, how they think about design and Apple as a platform or as a solid foundation for further quantitative investigation to confirm or revise my findings.

The Android operating system offers, due to the increasing number of available mobile devices based on this system and also the rapidly increasing number of users of such devices, a very good basis for the development of various mobile applications. It can be relevant to every conceivable area of everyday life, especially leisure, but also work to develop an app based on Android.
It currently still requires development of the offered mobile applications in the area of mobile event guides. There are numerous applications for trade shows, conferences and festivals, but they differ greatly in their functions and, above all in the presentation of maps and plans. Often, such apps are created based on a framework that allows the app to adapt to different events.
The present paper describes the implementation of a conference guide for the International Cartographic Conference 2013 in Dresden. Basis for the implementation is the consideration of methods of orientation and navigation applications at indoor and outdoor areas for pedestrians and on major events. To this end, existing applications from the category large events will be studied. Besides the general features a focus is placed on the cartographic features of such apps.
A framework, based on Android, which allows the creation of mobile applications for various large events, will be created as part of the work. This framework is adapted to the International Cartographic Conference 2013 and delivers as a result an application that can be used as a digital conference guide.

應用自願性地理資訊於社區物種調查之研究 / Application of Volunteered Geographic Information in Community-based Species Investigation郭芳妤, Kuo, Fang Yu Unknown Date (has links)
Taiwan is abundant in ecological resources, and species investigation will contribute to preserve species diversity and ecological balance. However, due to high biodiversity and wide distribution of species in Taiwan, the traditional investigation works cost a lot of money, time, human and material resources. Therefore, this study uses the concept of volunteered geographic information (VGI) to encourage the public to collect field data and to participate in species investigation for local communities. With local knowledge and enthusiasm about the community, residents are capable of collecting species data more effectively and efficiently. On the other hand, through volunteered participation in species investigation, residents will have better understanding about the current status of ecological environment in the community. Thereby the residents can realize the importance of ecological conservation and biodiversity, and promote their awareness of environmental conservation.
With the rapid development of mobile technology in recent years, mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers are gaining popularity. In order to make the investigation of species for communities more quickly and conveniently, this study makes use of the functions of most smart mobile devices such as real-time positioning, wireless networking, and digital camera to build a mobile App system for community-based species investigation. The mobile App system can serve as a tool for species investigation, and it also provides with location-based inquiry services timely and efficiently. In addition, Geographic Information System (GIS) is applied to manage the geodatabase, and a WebGIS platform is built to facilitate data sharing and analysis.

This work presents a syntax analysis on the executable files of iOS apps to characterize and detect suspicious behaviors performed by the apps. The main idea is counting the appearances of call sequences in the apps which are resolved via reassembling the executable binaries. Since counting the call sequences of the app needs to consider different combinations of every function calls in the app, which significantly increases the complexity of the computing, it takes abundant computing power to bring out our analysis on massive apps on the market, to improve the performance and the effectiveness of our analysis, this work adopted a distributed computing algorithm via Hadoop framework achieving a scalable static syntax analysis which is able to process huge amount of modern apps. We learn the malicious behaviors pattern through comparing the pairs of normal and abnormal app which are identical except on certain behaviors we inserted. By matching the patterns with the call sequences we collected from the public apps, we characterized the behaviors of apps and report the suspicious behaviors carried potential security threats in the apps.

In the present project, the research for the validation of the business model of an application that allows buying and selling of second-hand books will be developed. The business idea is aimed at two customer segments: people who want to sell unused books and people who want to buy second-hand books in good condition. This digital platform has books of the academic, literature and general culture genres.
For the project research, experiments were carried out that gave us information about the needs and preferences of both users, as well as real data that allowed us to project our sales and define our expenses. Within these experiments, each part of the proposed business model and the interaction between the user and the prototype of the application to be developed were validated. In order to get closer to our customer segments, we developed a digital marketing plan for our social networks and this allowed us to generate a relationship with our customers.
In this sense, the data collected in the different experiments was the necessary basis to carry out the initial cost structure, which was then deepened into a complete cash flow for our business idea projected to 3 years. In addition to this, the analysis and calculation of the financing that the project would receive from the investor and us ,the founders, was carried out. Finally, Quillqara proved to be an innovative project with possible positive results in the future despite the situation. / Trabajo de investigación
