Brasebin, Jenny 06 1900 (has links)
Appearing in the wake of World War II, with the publication in 1957 of On the Road by Jack Kerouac, followed 12 years later with the screening of Denis Hopper’s Easy Rider, the road novel and road movie constitute, we argue, two sides of what we call the road narrative. Faced with a lack of comprehensive studies embracing both sides concurrently, and with recurrent amalgams, we reflect on the components differentiating the road novel and road movie from other types of wandering stories. Such a project calls for the construction of an intermedial apparatus, enabling us to jointly encompass artworks belonging to different media formats. Consequently, we build on the concept of the chronotope, as developed by Bakhtin as a tool for literary criticism, and recently extended by scholars to cinematographic objects. We show how road novels and road movies emerge from the combination of two fundamental chronotopes: that of the road, exemplified by a postmodern universe dominated by motor vehicles and non-places, and that of the threshold, understood as the expression of a critical turn in one’s life. The noted presence of a parodic dimension in road narratives calls for the introduction of an additional bakhtinian concept: the carnivalesque, which, as we show, can be articulated in relation to the previously defined road and threshold chronotopes. For this chronotopical analysis, we selected artworks from the American, Quebecois and German repertoires, a choice justified by the numerous potential connections to be established between those three different cultures.

Histórias digitais: narrativas no século XXI. O software Movie Maker como recurso procedimental para construção de narrações / Narratives of the XXI century Study of the Movie Maker software and Procedural Appeal for Building Stories.

Carvalho, Gracinda Souza de 28 April 2008 (has links)
Considering the importance of making the education and the teaching practice nearer to the reality of the pupil and of the contemporary society and considering still the relevance what new technologies of information and media resources can add up to the educative process, this research investigated the results of the use of Movie Maker software for the construction of digital narratives. By the light of the theoretical foundation, we carry out an analysis of the pupils productions with the intention of checking the obtained advancements, results and obstacles of the hard-working methodology. This investigation was based on a construction of the concept sequential logic, developed inside the social-constructivist theory. It was used media resources and information new technologies diversity to wake curiosity and reflection so that, through the contact with the new, the cognitive conflict appeared, and so that, from then on, the pupil acquired knowledge that would enable him to explain a process, to formulate a concept, reaching so a level of better knowledge (DIJK, 1992). We considered media resources as important tools of context and renovation of educational contents, as well as mighty ways of motivation and learning seduction for learning to learn (ASSMANN, 2002). A research carried out with pupils of the Basic II Cycle of public schools, being that most of the analysed material were collected in the computer science laboratory and in the classroom, that´s what this is all about. For getting the research data, I was simultaneously an educator and investigator. The data obtained during the process of investigation allow us to evaluate that there effectively was specific contribution of Movie Maker software, like procedure tool for the improvement of oral and written production of narrative type for the involved pupils. Besides, we can think that the teacher´s mediation is basic for the construction of formal knowledge.

Scalable MovieBarcodes – An Exploratory Interface for the Analysis of Movies

Burghardt, Manuel, Kao, Michael, Walkowski, Niels-Oliver 29 May 2024 (has links)
In this article we present an exploratory interface for the analysis of movies. Movies are segmented into shots, which are in turn displayed as scalable MovieBarcodes, i.e. film scholars can zoom into the MovieBarcode representation to explore single chapters or scenes. The tool also provides a search function that can be used to filter shots according to characters or keywords, which are extracted automatically from subtitles and movie scripts. The filtered results are also displayed as interactive MovieBarcodes. Our tool can be used to aid film scholars during the research process of a movie analysis, as it provides new perspectives on a continuous, time-based medium.

"Don’t Forget about Us, Because We Can’t Forget You"

Usbeck, Frank 11 February 2016 (has links) (PDF)
The following contribution interweaves culturalanthropological and media studies approaches to analyze the concept of 'community' in a phenomenon of the new media, the socalled 'milblogs.' These communities use the blogosphere to create and distribute a master arrative about the relationship of American civil society with its military and, thus, about how segments of American society attempt to come to terms with the War on Terror. The contribution emphasizes the interaction of bloggers with their audience in the narrative process of imagining, proclaiming, and nurturing such communities.
